A family favorite, the Easiest Chili Ever – Hearty and flavorful dump dinner using seasoned chili beans.

Easiest Chili Ever

Any mamas suffering with me? Today was probably the 10th day of school interrupted in 2019. It’s only February, and we haven’t had a full week of school since December. I would raise a glass, maybe offer a toast with a bottle of an adult beverage, but on top of having all five kids off schedule, I also got Invisalign (clear braces) and am off any glasses of anything, except water… I digress. Yes, I am having my own pitty party of one.

Back to my family who never goes to school. Did you know that snow makes hungry kids turn famished? My children come inside form playing outdoors and they expect a full four course meal. Not only do they want non stop snacks, they want food to warm them up before they head back outside again. I go from making one meal a day (dinner) to making three large meals a day. One of our favorite go to meals for lunch and dinner is chili. The meal fills a crowd (when additional friends come over) and I can multiple ingredients depending on if I have more mouths to feed or if I need left overs.

If you have a favorite Chili recipe, like ours, upgrade your favorite chili with the hearty flavor of BUSH’S® Chili Beans. Simmered in their original chili sauces, made with a special blend of chilies, spices, garlic and onions, these are the beans to perfect your tried and true recipe!

SAVE NOW! Right now, head to Walmart and save one dollar when you buy any two cans of Bush’s BUSH’S® Chili Beans. Whether you prefer pinto, kidney, black, white, red or mixed beans, mild, medium or hot sauce, BUSH’S® Chili Beans offer the variations and flavors to satisfy you and your family.

Next time you need an easy recipe to fill a crow, try our Easiest Chili Ever. Just dump in the pot, warm, and simmer! Check out our white bean alternative, an Easy White Chicken Chili Dump Dinner.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cooked and shredded chicken breasts
  • 4 cups chicken stock
  • 2-16oz cans BUSH’S® Chili Beans (yellow can)
  • 1-4oz can diced Chile’s
  • 1 cup southwest corn
  • 1 1/2 cups white cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 teaspoons dried cumin
  • 2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoons onion powder

Don’t Forget the Garnish:

  • Cilantro, washed
  • Lime wedges
  • Tortilla chips

Spring Break Staycation Ideas

Spring Break Staycation

You don’t need to shell out money to create a fun spring break vacation for the kids! This year and last year showed us that it’s important to learn how to have fun from the comfort of our homes. While we didn’t have much of a choice, we now know that it’s totally possible to have a blast without jet setting anywhere.

Whether you’re looking for creative ideas for your child’s spring break, activities for the summer, or just a few fun ideas for a long weekend, you’ll love these easy and frugal staycation ideas. Enjoy a holistay within your hometown and browse these 20 kid-approved activities!

From stargazing, to camping out in your backyard, to museum scavenger hunts and more, these Spring Break Staycation ideas are the best ways to make a vacation from home special!

What is a staycation?

Not all of us have the budget or willingness to take the family on a vacation every spring. Staycations bring all the fun of a great vacation into your very own home or hometown. They typically involve extra special activities that you might do when you’re on a real vacation, like camping in your own backyard or setting up a kiddie pool in the backyard.

Whatever your reason for enjoying these staycation ideas, let us know how much you love them in the comments!

Backyard Movie Theater

Pop some popcorn, plop together some pillows, put up a tent, string some lights… whatever it takes to make the coolest at home movie theater in your yard. Follow this DIY Backyard Movie Screen (from Simply Sprout) or pick up an outdoor movie screen for your evening.

Play Tourist

Play tourist in your hometown. Start by visiting your city’s visitor center and get creative with what new activities can fill your day. What new things do you want to see? Where haven’t you explored before? To really make your staycation fancy, book a hotel room for the night! Search places like Groupon for discounts and savings.

Baking Championship

Host a kids baking championship! Invite your kids’ friends or neighborhood pals to up the ante. Fill a basket with interesting ingredients for them to use or let them search the web for a recipe they want to make. You judge, determine the winner, and get to eat the food all at the same time… sounds like you’re winning! Adorable ideas for a baking party or championship from ikatbag.

Deepen relationships and learn a new fun fact about your loved ones! Have an Instagram-worthy picnic in your favorite grassy park. Picnics are a great opportunity to escape those everyday distractions like the doorbell, phone ringing, dog barking, and all the other things that interrupt quality time. Bring dinner conversation cards to start discussion and help you get to know your child and/or spouse better.

Backyard Campout

No need to venture into the woods — camp out in your own backyard! At night, you and your family can study the sky. Download the Sky Map App and study planets, stars, and constellations. Frugal Mom Eh has some creative ideas for backyard camping, as well.

Host an international vacation from home — no flight required! Choose a country you have always wanted to travel to. Eat food, plan activities, listen to music, and watch a movie. Of course, all of the eats and activities will be based on that country’s culture! Pick up a DVD from the library or watch something on Amazon Prime that relates to the country of your choice. Rick Steves has some great movies. Live, Life and Learning has a free printable passport you can use for your adventure with the kids. Every night of the week can be a different country!

Sleep Outdoors

Fill a truck or trampoline with pillows and blankets and have an outdoor campout under the stars! You can also see this idea in our Visual Summer Bucket List for Kids.  Source and Source

Thirteen clean and fun Dollar Tree April Fools pranks from as low as $20 – Easy April Fools Day prank ideas for kids from the Dollar Store.

Dollar Tree April Fools Pranks

13 Dollar Tree April Fools Pranks

Every April 1, April Fools’ Day is an annual celebration full of practical jokes. These jokes can have a wide range of silliness form hoaxes to playful amusement. We like to focus on the later, making sure all parties of the prank find it fun and laughable. In an effort to prepare for April Fools’ Day this year, my girls and I went up and down the aisles of the Dollar Store to find some of the most creative (and clean) Dollar Tree April Fools Pranks for Kids. This pranks can be done on kids or the kids can become involved pranking parents or even other siblings.

Also check out our April Fools Ideas for the Kitchen, Home and Office. We also have plenty of fun Free April Fools Day printables for kids and adults. Have fun, be kind!

Dollar Tree April Fools Prank 1: Sponge Cakes

Only two items are needed for this April Fool’s Day Prank for the kids. We tricked my husband as his birthday had just occurred when we made our sponge cake. At the Dollar Tree pick up a sponge and we found a package of Funfetti Pillsbury Icing with sprinkles. The trickiest part was not having the sponge show through. I would suggest the lightest sponge you can find (ours was dark blue.) I also suggest icing the cube, freezing it for about five minutes, icing it again, freezing again. My daughter was very patient with it, it was about four times she took it in and out of the freezer until it looked like a mini cake. Supplies include a sponge, icing, sprinkles, scissors and a butter knife.

Price: $2

Dollar Tree April Fools Prank 2: Plastic Wrap Shampoo

This is good for a container of bath wash, shampoo or conditioner. Take some plastic wrap and seal under the cap. When your family member tries to squeeze the liquid out of the bottle, it will not come out. This might be an April Fools prank you already have on hand and don’t have to purchase! Supplies include plastic wrap, and shampoo/conditioner/body wash.

Price: $2 – $3

Dollar Tree April Fools Prank 3: Kraft Mac and Cheese Juice

For this kids April Fool’s Day Prank you will need powdered Kraft Macaroni and Cheese.  My frugal self pulled out the pasta and made it for the kids later in the week – who doesn’t love pasta with butter? It was easy to make our April Fool’s Day juice. I was amazed how real this looked. When I poured the powder in our pitcher, I was sure that it wasn’t going to fool anyone but it looked just like freshly squeezed orange juice with pulp. You can sift out some of the top if you feel it looks like too much pulp. Gross… but so much fun! Supplies include powdered mac and cheese, water, and a pitcher.

Price: $1

Dollar Tree April Fools Prank 4: Pop Corn

We picked up a popcorn container and a can of corn for this April Fools Day fun! After you ask the kids if they want popcorn, pour a can of corn in the cup and see their reaction! Silly but fun. Supplies include a popcorn container, a can opener and canned corn.

Price: $2

Dollar Tree April Fools Prank 5: Brown Es Brownies

Construction paper, a pan and Reynolds Aluminum Foil are all that is needed for this Brown-Es April Fool’s Day brownie prank!  I took brown construction paper and layered it on top of each other. I then drew an E on the top piece of paper with a pencil. I quickly cut out six Es in one cut. On the top of the pan, my girls wrote a note to their dad – “Brownies, Love Lucy and Bella.” He fell for it after dinner! Laughs from all of us! Supplies include brown construction paper, scissors, a baking tray, aluminum foil and a pencil.

Price: $1 – $3

Dollar Tree April Fools Prank 6: JELL-O Punch

Full disclosure. Our Dollar Tree did not have powdered JELL-O so we had to grab four of the pre-made individual packs. Four filled up this entire mason jar cup To fill the cup, we melted on the stove-top until it was runny (no chunks).  We pour our melted JELL-O in a mug, added a draw and put it in the fridge. It solidified just fine. After the pranks pilled up, my husband did not fall for this one but he also is not the first to grab a mug of juice out of the refrigerator.  This is a better prank saved for the kids! Supplies include JELL-O (plus ingredients), a mug, and a straw.

Price: $1 – $3

Dollar Tree April Fools Prank 7: Frozen Cereal

There are a few option to this cereal prank. You can freeze a layer of ice in a bowl or you can freeze the milk, spoon and cereal in the bowl.  We added a layer of water to the bowl about 2/3 up. We then frozen the layer of water. When I served the cereal and milk, just a litter was on the top layer so when you went to dig your spoon in the bowl, you hit a solid surface! Supplies include a cereal bowl, spoon, milk, cereal and water. You might have everything you need for this April Fool’s Day breakfast prank making this as low as $0!

Price: $1 – $4

Dollar Tree April Fools Prank 8: Thin Mint OREOs

The kids loved making these Thin Mint OREOs and I have to admit, they smelled so good! The prank level of how hard it was, was low, but you have to make sure you keep it clean. Otherwise it clearly is not an OREO. I also think it would work better with one of those peel back OREO containers. Using a small bag, we had to open the bag and it doesn’t make it too appealing to start eating OREOs from an already open bag. If it was the peel back container, it would be easy to lay them in the cupboard until someone went in the pantry and served themselves. Supplies include cookies, toothpaste and a butter knife.

Price: $2

Dollar Tree April Fools Prank 9: Rock Filled Shoes

So don’t do this prank when you are rushing out the door. No fun having a child clean up rocks and getting their shoes on ten minutes before school starts. Supplies include shoes with rocks, Pony Beads, marbles, toilet paper, or whatever!

Price: $1

Dollar Tree April Fools Prank 10: Caramel Ice Cream Parfait

I love this Dollar Tree prank because you can make a practical joke serving ice cream with caramel sauce but it isn’t something that you have to toss after the prank is done. In fact, my kids were thrilled to be eating the mashed potatoes with gravy! It was just as much of a treat. All you need for supplies are instant mash (the ingredients like butter and water) and gravy sauce. We picked up the spoon and glass at The Dollar Tree but they were not needed because you can use your own utensils and parfait glass.

Price: $2 – $4

Dollar Tree April Fools Prank 11: Spider Escape

This prank is playful and easy. Grab a paper cup and put on this caution note “Warning… huge, aggressive spider under cup. Do not lift!” Then tear the cup as if this aggressive spider escaped. Fun not only for the home but maybe for a common room in an office. If not for someone to fall for, at least for someone to get a small chuckle. Supplies include a cup, marker, and Post-it note.

Price: $1 – $3

Dollar Tree April Fools Prank 12: Remote Control Trick

Dad is sure to fall for this one, especially when the big game is on. Cover the remote control sensor with Scotch Tape. Be sure to draw a black circle where the sensor is completely blocking the transmission. How many times do you think he will change the batteries? Supplies include tape, a permanent marker and of course, a remote control.

Price: $2

Dollar Tree April Fools Prank 13: Bar Soap Trick

For this soap prank, you cover bar soap in clear nail polish. When you go to wash your hands, the soap will not create suds causing the hand washer to keep trying to later up the bar. This worked in our home! Supplies include bar soap and clear nail polish.

Price: $2

Looking for fun birthday ideas? Make each and every family member feel special on their birthday with these Family Birthday Celebrations. These creative kids birthday ideas might just become your family’s new favorite traditions!

Family Birthday Celebrations

Family Birthday Celebrations

Our family used to have more elaborate birthday celebrations for our kids. As the years have gone by and our family headcount has gone up, the kids’ birthday celebrations have become more simplified. Our girls were 7 and 8 when their younger brother came and 8 and 9 when their additional brothers (twins) came, so it was hard to give them the celebration they deserved with all the craziness going on. That being said, there were years that it was easy (and affordable) to throw them a kids birthday party with friends. They have gotten older, and less interested, and I have been researching fun birthday ideas to make them feel loved at home without spending hundreds of dollars.

I’ve rounded up the best fun birthday ideas below to make your younger kids, your teens, or even your spouse feel special on their big day!

Make sure you get all the way to the bottom of this post — we have a really creative away for you to pay it forward and for you to give back to others each and every birthday! Such a wonderful lesson for your kids. Plus, it comes with a free printable!

Snow Day Ideas

20 Snow Day Ideas on Frugal Coupon Living

We recently moved from Florida to the DC area and snow is new to us. Other than building the snowmen, making a snow angel and sledding down a hill, I wanted to find alternative ways for my kids to have fun in this odd, little white substance. Take a look at these 20 Uses for Snow to have a list of Snow Day Ideas on your next school day off!

How to Make An Igloo

Have fun making an ice castle with step by step tutorial, how to make an igloo out of snow.

Photo directions of How to Make An Igloo using ice blocks

This outdoor igloo with ice blocks took about 3 days and a lot of patience. It also used about 40 meatloaf pans (just grab at the Dollar Store or your local grocery store.) Lay out your pans with water and a few drops of food coloring. Once the ice hardens, pop the ice out of the pans and form your igloo shape.

Once you get the shape of your ice igloo, fill in the cracks with snow. Continue to make molds, let the harden and add more ice bricks to your igloo. Keep adding snow in the racks as your cement. Repeat the process until you have an igloo made out of snow and ice. When you are finish, add alight inside at night for a magic light display.
