super cute pond nature journal for kid printable worksheets

Nature journaling is a fun outdoor activity for families. There are many benefits of nature and journaling is the perfect way to get fresh air, explore your surroundings, or look at the living world differently. Nature journaling can be done with kids, adults, friends, and family. Explore ponds, creeks, rivers, fields, trails, mountains, and more.

Today we will look at what is nature journal, how to create your own nature journal, and our fun pond life journal for young kids.

What is Nature Journaling?

In the same way that one records their thoughts and feelings, nature journaling can be done in parallel. Nature journaling is simply writing down one’s experiences and illustrations in response to the natural world. It’s a relaxing outdoor activity not only for adults but for children too. This fun outdoor activity connects the writer with the great outdoors and living world. Nature journals can be self lead through creative and free thought. Alternatively, nature journaling can be directed using nature observation worksheets or fun outdoor scavenger hunt printables.

How to Start a Nature Journal

To start a nature journal, grab paper and a pencil. That’s it. Free form is a great way to start writing and illustrating the observations you see in our natural world. Keep your paper together in a binder, folder, or notebook to create an exploration journal. A journal can be done over a short period of time like during a day or weekend. Nature journaling can also be done over a long series of time creating a lifelong diary or nature logbook.

How does an observation journal work?

The fun part about having a journal full of observations is that everyone’s will be different. The goal of nature journaling is broad. Journal entries can record changes in animal tracks, sketches of the outdoor environment, or even fictional stories about the environment one’s in.

Alternatively, take it as part of an outdoor family hike and create your very own exploration nature journal for the family. All the prompts are right there, just waiting to be completed!

Let’s take a look!

Pond Life Activities Printable

I don’t know how often we’ve looked at a pond and just kept walking. But when you take the time to slow down and look at all the beauty, there are so many things to see! In this pond life science activities printable set, experience nature by creating your own pond-life nature journal observations.

The fun part about searching and looking for things related to a pond is that everyone gets to be a part of the fun. We’ve used this activity during sleepovers, campouts, hikes, and even just a fun family day where we put the screens down, and spent time together, face to face.

Included in this pond printable activity:

  • Pond Explorer Cover Page
  • Pond Observations Journal
  • Pond Explorer Reflection Questions
  • Pond Explorer Nature Scavenger Hunt List (written)
  • Pond Explorer Outdoor Scavenger Hunt List (with photo prompts)

For many of these natural journaling printables, print as many as you need to make multiple observations. There are prompts to help everyone know what to write or draw, but after that, it’s how they see and perceive it. An observation journal is an easy way to slow down and enjoy the time.

Make sure to grab this nature journal for kids! It has two outdoor scavenger hunts plus nature journal ideas! It’s great for preschoolers, young readers, and early learners!

Nature Observation Worksheets

You can also make pond observations with a fun animal and plant journal. Answer nature journal questions that lead to observations about your pond including …

  • What did you learn about your visit to the pond?
  • What would you like to learn about the pond?

Nature Scavenger Hunts

printable nature scavenger hunt ideas for kids at the pond

Kids love outdoor exploration through a nature scavenger hunt. The pond life activities worksheet includes two types of pond outdoor scavenger hunts including a Pond Scavenger Hunt for Nature and a Pond Scavenger Hunt with Photos.

Find some of the following things at the pond…

  • Duck
  • Frog
  • Lily Pad
  • Dragonflies
  • Birds
  • Insects

For literacy activities, the scavenger hunt with words is meant for emergent readers and older kids who can read. The scavenger hunt with pictures is meant for young kids who did visual images of pond items they can look at and find on their own.  Pair up older explorers and younger kids and do both!

Let each child create a check or circle over their items found so little learners can work on their fine motor skills during the small pond theme activities.

More Ideas for Nature Journaling at the Pond

Don’t forget to change it up to work for your needs!  Make this printable nature journal for kids your own! You can use it just like it is or change it to something new.

Some fun ideas to personalize this pond life nature journal includes…

Have a fun prize

Don’t forget the prize and make it a friendly competition. It’s always fun to motivate people with a prize! If you can think of fun pond prizes, that is even better. A small prize would be gummy worms (to be like fishing worms!) and a larger prize could even be a fishing pole! Hit the dollar store to see what you can find.

Keep track as you go

If you want to make a point system, adding a counting element is a fun way. Have everyone count how many frogs they find, count the lilypads, and more! This turns the fun into a math activity. I think that we ended up counting 15 frogs and over 30 lilypads on our outdoor pond adventure. We all had a blast using this as our basis! There are so many things that you’ll see that you can add to the list as well. Have fun with it and go with the flow coming up with new ideas as you explore.

Collect fun things

Scientists and naturalists will enjoy having a small bucket or bag to carry the items they collect. Bring your fun trinkets back to the classroom and look at such items under a microscope.  You can use such items to make your own nature arts & crafts or add to a fun hands-on nature sensory bin.

Add a photo contest

You’ll undoubtedly see a ton of really cool things while you’re looking around the pond. See who can take the best picture and share it with everyone! Use the nature treasure hunt to create your own photo scavenger hunt with pond items or photograph things not found in the outdoor treasure hunt like…

  • Pond patterns
  • Eggs, tadpoles, and frogs to create your own illustrated frog life cycle
  • Turtles
  • Cloud patterns

May the best photo win. Use your photos to add to your nature journal scrapbook.

This outdoor pond printable is easy to use and fun as well! Get ready to be in a friendly competition with the kids because you will look for everything, just like they are!

What ages can participate in this pond journal activity?

super fun hotel scavenger hunt printable

Staying at a hotel is always a fun time! The bright lights, the long hallways, the big rooms – it’s all super exciting! No matter where you are in a hotel or restore, there is always something to look at. These fun Resort Scavenger Hunt Clues are the perfect balance of excitement, and logic – and that means that it’s a great way for everyone to join in on the fun.

The great thing about this family scavenger hunt printable is that there are more than enough items to look for! Arriving at a hotel and using this printable activity as a way to get everyone acclimated to the hotel is a fun way to calm those travel nerves. Just be ready – the race will be on to see who can find the most clues either in a set amount of time or first to finish!

What makes this a fun scavenger hunt with a twist?

Typically scavenger hunts are reserved for at home or on a holiday like Easter or Valentines’ Day. What makes this an epically fun, unique scavenger hunt is the treasure hunt is set outside the home, often outside one’s own city or hometown. It’s a hotel scavenger hunt that makes a great activity for a resort, motel, conference center, hostel, or even a VRBO or Airbnb.

hotel room key Opened door of hotel room with key in the lock

Family vacations and travel plans are so fun! While traveling in a plane or a car can be daunting and tiresome, that doesn’t mean that arriving at the hotel has to be a time to sleep. Use that travel energy and explore the room and layout of the hotel! This would be super fun for a family vacation, staycation, or even a birthday party with a hotel stay!

Some other fun ideas to use for this hotel scavenger hunt printable could be:

  • Family Reunion Activity
  • Weekend family fun
  • Fun Birthday Scavenger Hunt idea for a hotel staycation
  • Vacation activity to do while resting at the hotel
  • Indoor activity on a rainy day
  • Hotel exploration and discovery

An interactive indoor scavenger hunt is a great way to get acclimated or to fill the downtime at the hotel while waiting for your next family activity or adventure. Use it as exploration and getting to know your surroundings or as team building for friends and extended family.

Hotel Scavenger Hunt Clues and Ideas

Everyone will have a blast with these fun clues. These scavenger hunt clues were created so that all ages can join in the fun! Even if someone isn’t old enough to read, they can still see the pictures and be on the lookout for those items. There are two pages of clues that range from items to find in a hotel, to shapes and colors to be on the lookout for.

See a sneak peek below of the printable scavenger hunt PDF so that you know exactly what it looks like!

printable hotel scavenger hunt checklist for a vacation

Hotel scavenger hunt items include:

  • coffee pot
  • do not disturb sign
  • luggage cart
  • workout center
  • brochure
  • front desk
  • swimming pool
  • fire extinguisher

These are just a few of the items that the kids (and adults) can try to spot in the hotel! And who knows, you may end up finding even more fun items that you have to add to your own scavenger hunt list!

Make it Your Own!

Each user can make this scavenger hunt personal. Since we are all visiting different scavenger hunt locations and have various scavenger hunt participants, try some of these fun ideas to make the treasure hunt your own.

Hotel scavenger hunt ideas include…

Have a Fun Prize

Grab a few party favors or rewards for a special treat at the end of the hunt. A small prize can also act as a souvenir. Visiting Disney? Then grab a few princess party favors or mickey gifts off the internet before you travel. Hnad these items out to reward success at the end of the treasure hunt.

Count As You Go

Use the provided checklist for a hotel but allow the checklist items to add up. For example, did your team find multiple fire extinguishers? If they found 5, make that five points toward the scavenger hunt checklist total. The most points at the end of a set amount of time, wins.

Hotel Photo Scavenger Hunt

Create a virtual scavenger hunt and split up but make sure each team has a smartphone. Instead of giving each player a hotel scavenger hunt list of items, allow them to use their smartphone for a hotel photo scavenger hunt

Play like this… “The first item is a pillow.” Each team has to race and take a picture of a pillow in a group text. This can be a pillow on the couch in the lobby or a pillow in the hotel room. In the same format, have the mediator text “the next item is a local map.” Each team will race to take a picture of a local map and text it to the group. The team that returns the first image to the group, wins that round. Continue on with fun items like

    • room number
    • fitness room
    • red chair
    • funny picture in the hallway
    • vending machine item
    • etc.

Use the scavenger hunt checklist of items to guide the moderator in this phone scavenger hunt game.

This game is so much fun for an older group of teens or young adults. Heck, even grannie and gramps will have a good time with this fast-paced fun game.

What are the rules for this resort treasure hunt?

fun family vacation Image of happy caucasian family with children resting near luxury swimming pool with white fashion deckchairs and umbrellas outside hotel

Since a hotel treasure hunt is a public scavenger hunt, it’s essential to go over a few rules. Manors and teaming up are two of the most important scavenger hunt rules.

The indoor scavenger hunt rules are a combination of the hotel rules and your family rules. Make sure that the kids know that they shouldn’t be wandering around the hotel alone and to always be with an adult from their own family while looking for things. It’s important to also team up young kids and older kids.

Also, abide by the rules of the hotel that there is no running or disturbing the other guests! Have them take a pencil so that they can mark off the items as they find them!

Who is this Hotel Photo Scavenger Hunt for?

Kids: This printable PDF is really for all ages. Make sure that the littles pair up with the big kids or adults – and have a blast. It’s a great way to burn off extra energy before a slower-paced activity.

Teens: Even the tweens will join in on the fun! Just be sure to remind them of that no-running rule – as teens can get pretty competitive!

Adults: Absolutely! Adults love good friendly competition and the ability to gloat the rest of the trip. It’s always fun to pair an adult up with one of the kids!

Places to take photos at Disney

Disney World is a magical place for people of all ages. With four theme parks, two water parks, and more than thirty resorts, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. If you’re looking for the best photo spots in Disney World, there is a way to do that! Introducing this Disney Photo Spots Checklist and Bring printable! This is the best way to spend your time at Disney wisely! These are Disney World photo spots worth checking out!

How to Take the Best Photos at Disney

Are you headed to Orlando, Florida? If you are going on your dream vacation, you will of course want to turn some memories into amazing snap shots. Since you have this printable that gives you the best photo spots at Disney, you may be wondering how you can take the best photos at Walt Disney World.

Give these tips a try:

1. Timing is everything

Try to take your photos during off-peak hours when there are fewer people around. This will help you avoid crowds and get the best shots. In addition to finding an uncrowded spot, capture the moment. If you see your children in a belly laugh moment, go ahead and take a dozen or so photos. You can erase the excess later after you capture the best moment in a picture.

how to take photos at disney

2. Bring a tripod

This will help you take clear, steady photos that are perfect for capturing memories. Tripods can be a lot of work to remember, but they will help you take amazing pictures.

3. Use a DSLR camera or Your Phone’s Camera

If you have one, use it! This will give you the best quality photos. Don’t forget about your phone’s camera as well! Play with the lighting and some of the camera app lenses. In this photo, we adjusted the late afternoon lighting to give my daughter a perfect silhouette with her Mickey Balloon.

4. Be patient and have fun!

If you’re waiting for a perfect shot, be patient. It’ll be worth it in the end. At the end of the day, remember to have fun and enjoy your time at Disney World!

5. Disney PhotoPass Service

If you are looking for a concierge memory maker, consider the Disney Photo Pass. This will allow you to become hands off when it comes to taking the photos of your amazing vacation. From plastic card encoded card with a chip or your MagicBand, simply scan your card/band with the park’s official photographers. For a flat rate, you can have your unlimited family photos taken by every photographer in the park and get all the photos attached to your account. It’s easy to link your photos to your Disney account! You can use your MagicBand, Disney PhotoPass card, theme park ticket or annual pass. Read more on their Frequently Asked Questions page.

Frugal Savings Tip: Why reinvent the wheel?! Even if you don’t pay for the Disney Photo Pace, pay attention to the Disney Photo Pass spots. The Disney team and photopass photographers have already done all the hard work. Trust us, they know their great photo spots and backdrops. They are trying to sell hundreds of photos in these dream locations.

Use for family outings, a day trip to the beach, a fun birthday celebration, or a simple way to spend time by the water. All these beach activities are age-appropriate from youth to adults.

Once you get started, you’ll find yourself excited to work your way down the list. These games are great for parties on the beach and are a great way to hang out and unwind.

How do you make a beach day fun?

Just be ready for everyone at the beach to want to join in on the fun.

If you are looking for a list of the best beach activities, try some of the following.

  • Sand Angels: Make sand angels – use seaweed, shells and other beach items to decorate her face
  • Sand Castle: Split into teams and have a sand castle contest. Teammates will try to build the most attractive or largest sandcastles around.
  • Beach Volleyball: Play beach volleyball. Use a volleyball net or draw a line in the sand near the water’s edge.
  • Ball Games: Play classic and new ball games like bucket ball, bocce ball, paddle ball, spike ball, or beer pong for the adults (totally counts, right?)
  • Tug of War: Another classic game perfectly played in the sand. Twist it up and add a trench in the middle filled with water. See which team is the strongest!
  • Baseball at Sunset: Grab your mitt and play the most beloved game in America. You could even play with a tennis ball for added distance.

Of course we find beach games are a perfect way to create memories, break the ice and bond.

Have fun going through the great beach games listed below. They’re easy and fun and perfect for kids of all ages. These beach activities are a must have and as you will see they are really fun. Plenty of laughter included. Be sure to include sunscreen because they are so distracting, you might forget to take a break and add an extra layer.

fun beach games to play at the beach

Beach Theme Scavenger Hunt

With so many cool things to see on the beach, this beach treasure hunt is certain to be a blast. Just create a list of treasures, split into two teams, and see who can find all the items first. Make certain that you add some fun and wacky things that you’d only be able to find on the beach.

Supplies: paper, pencil, beach scavenger hunt list

Mini Golf

You don’t need a golf course to play golf. Just bring a few clubs from home (or pick up some cheap ones at a second-hand store) and make the beach be your course. Dig a hole in the sand and put or put a few cups out to try and hit the balls into. Use your creativity to play just like a real round of golf where the person with the lowest swings wins.

Supplies: cups, golf ball, golf clubs

Squirt Ball Relay

The quicker you are here, the better. Grab a blown-up beach ball and a squirt gun full of water and see who can use the water from the squirt gun to push the ball across the sand to the finish line. Don’t worry, you’ll more than likely run out of water and have to run to the water and fill up during this time!

Supplies: beach ball, water gun

Beach Towel Parachute

The concept of this game is fun and addicting. Have a beach ball in the middle of a beach towel. Have two people hold the tall and use it to bounce the beach ball up and down. The more bounces, the better because if it hits the ground, you have to start counting all over again.

Supplies: beach ball, beach towel

Musical Towels

The same rules apply here as musical chairs but you use towels instead. Lay the towels out on the sand, have the music playing, and let everyone walk around and do their best to scramble to a towel once the music stops!

Supplies; beach towels, radio/music player

Beach Bowling

Put those empty water bottles to good use. Line them up in the sand and then use a ping pong ball and try to knock them down. Can you do a strike? Only time will tell!

Supplies: empty water bottles

Shell Shuffle

Who can balance the shell the best? All you need to do is balance dry sand on a spoon and place a shell on top and the race is on. Who can carry the shell back and forth the quickest without it falling off?

Supplies: shells, sand, spoons

Hole Sand Hole

If you’ve ever played cornhole, you’re going to have a leg up on this game. Start by digging five holes into the sand and make certain to give them a bit of space in the sand as well. Use a ball and do your best to fit the ball into the holes so start racking up the points.

Supplies: balls

Flick n Sticks

This game is fast and fun to set up! All you need are 4 sticks/stakes, 4 cups (2 pairs of the same color), and a frisbee. Put the stakes in the sand several feet apart from one another. (You can decide the distance and can easily shorten or lengthen it as needed.) Split into teams of 2 and have each team stand at a stake. Take turns tossing the frisbee back and forth with the main goal of getting points. Points are earned by throwing the frisbee in between the 2 stakes and extra points are also earned for knocking the cup off the stakes as well.

Supplies: stakes/sticks, cups, frisbee

Frisbee Golf

Who says you need a frisbee golf course? Just set out some fun beach items and use your frisbee to toss and get as close as you possibly can. The one who throws the flying disc closest wins that “hole”.

Supplies: beach items, frisbee

Water Bucket Relay

Such a fun water challenge to play! Grab a cup and a couple of buckets and get geared up. Each person takes the empty cup, runs and gets water in it, then takes that cup of water and runs to the empty bucket to fill it up. The first person or team to fill their bucket wins!

Supplies: plastic cups, buckets

Beach Blow

It’s time to get down on your hands and knees and dig! Take a spoon or a small shovel and dig out a path. Then drop a ping pong ball into the groves, grab a straw, and blow your air through the straw to move the ping pong ball down the path. If you don’t want to dig two paths for competition, just set a timer and see who can complete it the fastest.

Supplies: spoon/small shovel, straw, ping pong ball

Hot Potato

Since you’re on the beach it just makes sense to pass around a beach ball instead of a potato, right? Have everyone sit in a circle and start passing the ball around while the music is playing. Be quick and careful with your passes as the person who is holding the beach ball when the music stops is out of the game.

Supplies: beach ball, music player

Sponge Relay

Just how much water does a sponge really hold? You’re about to find out. Have sponges in a bucket of water at the start line, and an empty bowl at the finish line. Once “go” is said, each person then has to grab a soaked sponge, sprint down to the empty bucket, squeeze out the water, then head back to do it all over again. The team who fills the empty bowl overflowing with water first wins!

Supplies: sponges, bowls

Beach Ball Relay

Air up those beach balls and get ready to run. Have each team line up, one behind each other, and get ready. The first person grabs the ball, sprints to the other end of the beach, and then sprints back to hand off to the next person in their relay line. The kicker? If the ball gets dropped at any point in time, they have to start over and do it again!

Supplies: beach balls

Pass the Water

Do you have what it takes to not spill a drop? Have teams line up in a row and give the first person in line a cup of water. Once “go” is said, the person holding the water cup full of water has to hold the cup over their hand and pour out the water into the empty cup of the person behind them. Do this until the entire team has done it and then see what team has the most water in the final cup!

Supplies: cups

Wet Shirt Relay

Line up the teams and get ready to “wring” out some fun. Have a bucket with a t-shirt in it, ready to go. The first person in line grabs the wet shirt and sprints across the beach to an empty bucket or bowl, waiting to be filled. The person wrings all the water out of the shirt and then takes the shirt back to the next person in line who starts the process again. The first team to fill the bucket with water wins!

Supplies: beach bucket or bowl, T-shirts

What are some of the best things to do at Hersheypark? From roller coasters to great eats, enjoy Hersheypark hacks and tips plus how to get Hersheypark discount tickets.

Hershey Park Hacks

In the adorable small town of Hershey, PA sits one of the sweetest places on earth – Hersheypark.

As many of you know, Virginia has been our home for over six years. I can’t believe it took us this long to find the place where milk and honey chocolate flow. This past weekend we entered the park’s gates and spent the best weekend enjoying food, rides, entertainment and more.  As a girl born and raised on the outskirts of Orlando, I turned to my husband on the last day of our trip and said, “our kids are not missing out!”

Hersheypark will fill the heart of any theme park lover. Whirl your way into some fun but don’t let it come a chaotic whirlwind. We have you covered with some tips and tricks before your travels.

Get ready to learn about this slice of heaven in the heart of Pennsylvania.

What is there to do at Hersheypark?

I hate to sound cliché, but this question must really be turned around. What is there NOT to do at Hersheypark. From great eats, roller coasters, shows and more, Hersheypark offers entertainment for children of all ages – that includes you mom and dad! Enjoy theme park rides, create your own chocolate, eat some of the best bites and prepar to be amazed as we look at the many things to do in Hershey, PA.

Hershey’s Chocolate World

Looking for something free to do in Hershey, PA? Visit Hersheypark Chocolate World. Located next to the park, unwrap your chocolate cravings with a Chocolate World’s free Hershey’s Chocolate Tour. When visiting Chocolate world, you can also create your own one-of-a-kind candy bar, shop Hershey gifts and souvenirs, or enjoy world-famous milkshakes and bakery treats.

Hersheypark chocolate world family

Chocolate World is open year round and located next to Hersheypark. It’s a great way to get a taste (pun intended) of Hershey without entering the park.

Roller Coasters

If you have a thrillist that loves a good roller coaster, there is something for everyone – from toddlers to adults.  Be sure to try Hersheypark’s new ride, Candymonium®. Located at the park entrance, this roller coaster ride is the tallest, fastest, longest, and sweetest coaster in Hersheypark.

Speaking of coasters, it’s important to know how your child measures up. Located in the park is a ride height chart.  For your convenience, each ride also has measuring sticks and lists eligible riders.

Hersheypark Height Chart

Hershey Miniatures: under 36″
Hershey Kisses: 36″ – 42″
Reese’s: 42″ – 48″
Hersheys: 48″ – 54″
Twizzlers: 54″ – 60″
Jolly Rancher:  60″ and taller

To give you a general idea for young children, my 3 year old twins were Hershey Kisses, my 4 (almost 5 year old) was a Reese’s and my preteens and adults were Jolly Ranchers.

You can find a Hershey Park height chart measuring station all around the park. Each ride also has a measuring stick – so no sneaking on rides you are not “allowed” to ride.

As the parent who often had the youngest kids (while the bigger kids experienced the fastest, most exhilarating coasters), I found plenty to do. There was something around these “big kid” coasters that the younger kids could do. From games, to smaller rides, my toddlers did not feel left out at any time.

Hersheypark Rides

hersheypark rides

The park offers man classic amusement park rides including wooden roller coasters, water log rides, tea cups, ferris wheel and a carousel.  For our family, founder’s Way was great for Hershey Miniatures, Hershey Kisses and Reese’s. When exploring outside of this area, the Hersheypark app was great for viewing a park map, looking at ride wait times and getting directions to your next location. Loops, twists, turns, and thrills were found in every directions and something for the entire family and each age group was mostly available throughout the park.

Some of our favorite coasters included…

  • Trailblazer – this was a  family coaster all my kids qualified to ride.
  • Laff Trakk – we could have ridden this one over and over – so fun!
  • Scrambler – the youngers really enjoyed this.
  • Fahrenheit – this was the first huge roller coaster our almost 5 year old could ride and he loved it.
  • Speedway – feel free to give the kids the keys to these classic cars.

Hersheypark Water Park

Ready to cool off? Make a splash at the 11-acre water park inside the park. The The Boardwalk at Hersheypark is included with all summer admission tickets. Water slides, tubes, and pools of fun to cool off from the hot sun. The Boardwalk at Hersheypark.

As a Hersheypark tip, it is good to know that the are lockers around the park if you want to lock up your wet apparel or valuables.

Hersheypark Stadium

For evenings, Hersheypark Stadium provides the entertainment. Experience concerts by the most prominent names in the music industry. Sounds for ages young to old. If you are staying at a Hershey hotel, many shuttles run through the concert hours ensuring you get from your Hershey Entertainment back to your bed safely.

Visit here for a list of artists and Hersheypark event schedule.

Hersheypark Hotels

Hershey hotels come with my nice amenities and perks. First, they offer shuttle service to the park so you can leave your car at the hotel. In addition, enjoy their pools and water activities, a game room, s’mores campfire events, restaurants, and other seasonal activities.

One benefit of staying at a park hotel is getting to the park an hour before it opens. If you area park expert, this is great because you can race to the rides that typically have the longest lines or perhaps just enjoy the park with fewer people.

Where is there to stay at Hershey? Visit the Hotel Hershey, the Hershey Lodge and also the Hersheypark camping resort. If you have a home on wheels or want to experience a bit of cabin life, check out Hersheypark campground.

Hersheypark Halloween

Hersheypark In The Dark takes place three weekends in October. Enjoy a spooktacular-ly good time filled with your favorite rides and coasters, chocolatey trick or treat adventures, wild zoo visits, and festive Hershey Character experiences. It takes a “fall festival” to the next level.

Hersheypark Christmas

Are touring Christmas lights on your winter bucket list? Enjoy more than 5 million lights for the most merry event of the year, Hersheypark Christmas Candylane®! Deck the halls with your favorite rides and coasters, a visit with Santa and his reindeer, festive Hershey Character experiences, and more. This event takes place mid November to early January.

kids games to play in the car printable

On the road again….

Spring break, summer break, holiday breaks. Whatever the reason, travel is around the corner and soon families will be hitting the road for vacation. Family road trips can be a great way to spend time together, but they can also be long and tedious if you are not prepared.

How do you make a car ride fun?

We asked some moms, how do you make a car ride fun? There were plenty of fun answers to make a long road trip more comfortable.

  • Charge electronics before a trip so they kids can have screen time
  • Pack a lot of snacks
  • Purchase new toys and games for a car treasure chest
  • Watch a movie on a car screen
  • Download audio books
  • Plan pit stops at fun places

While we agree with many of these ideas, some of them could become quite costly. Instead of adding everything to a very expensive online shopping cart…. Instead of everyone putting on head phones and looking at their tablets…. Put the electronics down and try some low-cost verbal games with your family.

We put together some fun car games for families you can print today! What makes this set of 12 road trip games unique is that they require very few supplies. They are also perfect car boredom busters creating family fun for everyone – young and old.

Road Trip Games to Play in the Car

When it’s time to plan your next road trip, don’t get caught without a plan to keep everyone busy. Found in our printable pages of fun car games, these games are perfect for passing the time and keeping everyone entertained. To make the most of your time in the car, we’ve put together a list of our favorite road trip games to play in the car to print out and entertain the whole group.

kids road trip games to play in the car

Some popular road trip games include I Spy, 20 Questions, The Alphabet Game, The License Plate Game, The Counting Game, and Road Trip Bingo.

Here’s a quick overview of how to play car games listed in our printable set.

I Spy: This classic game is perfect for young children and can be played by anyone. One person starts by saying, “I spy with my little eye something that is (color, shape, texture, etc.).” The other players then have to guess what object the first person is thinking of.

20 Questions: This game is similar to I Spy, but instead of describing an object, the player thinks of a person, place, or thing. The other players then get to ask 20 questions to try to figure out what the player is thinking of.

The Alphabet Game: The goal of this game is to spot objects in alphabetical order staring with letter a, then letter b and so on. For example, you might see an Acura, balloon, and cat. The next person would then have to find something that starts with the letter D.

The License Plate Game: This game is played by looking for license plates from different states. The first person to spot a license plate from every state wins the game. It’s hard to get 50 state tags when you involve Hawaii and Alaska!

Animal Name Game: Perfect their spelling you start listing this series of animals. Let the fun continue when each player list the name of an animal that starts when the ending letter of the alphabet from the pervious animal listed. See if you can stump the next player!

Car Cricket: Pay attention to the color of cars and try to score the most points when you are up to bat. This game has no skill but see who will get lucky racking up their points to 100 winning the game first.

Connections: Connect words in this fun ongoing game. It will be quite insightful to see how the whole family sees different words and how different things string together in their mind making each invidudal unique.

Conversation Starters: Get to know your family with these conversation starters. Perfect for the dinner table, they also can be used in the car for road trip fun!

Sing a Long String a Long: Warm up your vocal chords and try to catch a tune. String the line of a song with a new song when you connect words from lyrics

I’m Going on a Picnic: In this game, the first player lists something they are bringing on a picnic. The second person repeats their items and adds one of their own items. The game continues with a string of items added to the picnic basket. (Don’t worry – it doesn’t have to fit inside, get creative with ideas!)

Impersonation: See if you can identify the actor or character your carmate is impersonating!

Alphabet Categories: MORE

What makes these the best car games is they can easily be adapted to younger kids, older kids and even adults. In fact, I was reminiscing playing with my youth group leader as a teen driving cross country. That means, both a 15 year old and 35 year old found this engaging and fun!

These frugal friendly games are mostly spoken word games. So the driver can use his/her mind and engage on the fun too. When a checklist is needed, a passenger can keep track of their score.

Road Trip Car Games Printable

How many times have you found yourself in the backseat of a car, struggling to find something to do during a long car ride? Luckily, there are lots of great road trip games that you can play while you’re on the go.

We put together the best car games for adults and kids to play together. What sets these games apart from the others.  Everything you need is put together in budget-friendly printable pages. On your beach vacation, be sure to download a free Beach Scavenger Hunt printable and beach craft. Keep the kids busy with a sand bucket & cute outdoor treasure hunt!

Okay, we all know vacations aren’t always relaxing. Often family vacations are echoed with “what’s next?!” While the sand and waves are really fun, it’s possible you will hear cries of “I’m bored” or my favorite “I don’t know what to do!” If you are looking for activities for the beach, take a look at this fun list of beach activities for the kids (and kids at heart!)

What are some fun things to do at the beach?

Summer is the perfect time of year to head to the beach. If you are looking for fun beach activities, we have a really good checklist of ideas for kids of all ages. From games, to water play, contests and more, you will have so much fun you might have to set a timer to remind you to reapply sunscreen! It’s easy to burn when you are distracted!

Some of our favorite activities include…

fun beach games to play at the beach

  • Beach Games: Beach games are perfect for using common items you already have in the sand. Ideas include beach Frisbee golf, water relays, beach bowling and more. They are beach activities that will fill the entire day and give someone the claim of victory!
  • Sand Castle Contest: Divide in teams and see who can build the best sand castle. The whole team can look for natural decorations like seashells, seaweed and more.
  • Sand Pictionary: Use the sand to play Pictionary. Divide in teams. Teammates will draw pictures in the sand while their team tries to guess. Items can include an ocean animal, objects found on the beach and more.
  • Fly at Kite: We all know about kites but how often do you get the perfect day to do this outdoor activity? The beach is perfect for giving the right amount of wind to fly a kite.
  • Beach Crafts: Using sea shells and other beach items, turn your finds into art work. You can also upcycle trash found on the beach for a fun beach craft. Ideas include water bottle jelly fish, sand Play-doh and more.
  • Beach Party: While on your beach vacation, have a beach themed party. This can include a pirate party, kid’s baby shark party, adult white party, or even a teen glow in the dark neon party.
  • Minute to Win It Games with Water: Enjoy these water games for kids  that last only 60 seconds.
  • Have a Beach Treasure Hunt: Divide in groups for a team building scavenger hunt. Use a beach scavenger hunt list to find items commonly found on the beach.

If you are headed to the beach this summer, consider this free printable Beach Scavenger Hunt for the kids. It will busy them for awhile. Consider filling as well, their bucket with a snack and drink while they look! This is also good for red flag days when the sea is rough and you can’t get in the ocean.

Beach Tip: consider shipping beach toys from amazon to your beach vacation home. Alternatively, when you arrive at your rented beach house, see if toys were left behind. Many houses end up with renters leftover beach items and supplies. You can also hit the dollar store when you arrive at the beach and leave behind any beach supplies you do not want to cart back home.

Directions

It’s very easy to create this craft once you have your beach scavenger hunt digital download.

Open the printable scavenger hunt in your PDF viewer.

Place card stock in your printer.

Push Print.

You may out the square and trim the corners with a Corner Punch (we used a Martha Stewart punch. It’s a fun craft too to have on hand.)

At this stage, you have the option to laminate your printable to keep it water proof.

Use a glue gun or adhesive spray to stick the beach scavenger checklist to your beach pail.

Tie the pencil with twine to the bucket.

We think a fun option is to fill pail with a few beach items. Consider adding a water bottle, sunscreen and a snack. Everyone knows the sun makes you crave a tasty beach snack.

Beach Photo Scavenger Hunt

This scavenger hunt is perfect for young kids but you can easily convert it into a beach scavenger hunt for adults, teens or youth. Turn this checklist into a Beach Photo Scavenger Hunt.

Race to see who can find the items first. In order to put a check by the beach item, teams must take a photograph of the item. This can be done with a camera or cell phone.

Happy fun in the sun and enjoy your beach travels!
