You guys, I am lazy when it comes to gift wrapping. I mean, I pretty much run a Pinterest business for a living and I can barely tape the wrapping paper in a straight line. Maybe it’s the Pinterest day to day life that makes me lazy when push comes to shove.

So in an effort to find Creative Gift Wrapping Techniques & Ideas, I had me in mind. The lazy gift wrapper. Two things to add to your gift wrap closet are 1.) White Craft Paper 2.) Brown Kraft Paper . The creativity comes from washi tape, hand lettering, gift tags, and the ribbons. Get creative and remain lazy when your gift wrapping techniques.

Holiday Rosemary Wreath Craft

This Holiday Rosemary Wreath Craft is something that can be done in a matter of minutes. It can be done with small hands (by the help of mom) or as a DIY Christmas gift creating a creative way to make your house smell good this Christmas season.

How to Make Your House Smell Good

When our house was on the market in Florida, I got accused of having too many plugins in my home. I was told that it looked liked it masked a foul scent in the home (though that was not true.) I just love a scented home. In fact, scents take me to times and palces all the time, so I gravitate toward them for the rush of a deja vu moment.

There are many ways to make your house smell good. You can spent money on plug-ins, like I did when my house was on the market or you can adapt some of these Fresh smelling home tips.

First, a Holiday Simmer Pot. We shared this one with you last week. It’s great for when you are hosting and want the home to have an inviting smell.

Next, look at our Spring Cleaning Tips and Hacks. It doesn’t have to be spring to adapt some of these ideas. One idea I love is Pine-Sol in the toilet.

Of course, There are also Essential Oils. You can add a drop of essential oils to already existing potpourri, pine cones, or other absorbent items in your home or you can use an Essential Oil Diffuser and let the scent float into the air while it warms.

Of course, you can Hang fresh herbs. Herbal wreaths give a pleasant aroma. We our Holiday Rosemary Wreath Craft. We shaped Popsicle sticks into a star/snowflake and hung using a beautiful buffalo check ribbon. Supplies and directions listed below.

Rosemary Wreath Craft Supplies

Get crafting one weekend afternoon with this Rosemary Wreath Craft. A fun and creative way to make your house smell good over the holiday season.

To keep this smell fresh, you can also add drops of cinnamon essential oil or rosemary essential oil.

Rosemary Wreath Craft Directions

First, glue the ends of 8 Crafts sticks together to look like a star/snowflake. Make sure they are evenly spaced.

In between every two sticks should be shaped like a “V”, glue two craft stick on top of every “V” to look like an inside down “V”.

Mix a tablespoon of white paint with a tablespoon of water to make it into a white wash.

Whitewash the star with a paint brush and your white whitewash paint and let dry.

Measure your rosemary to your craft sticks and cut to the size you need for each craft stick.

Carefully hot glue on rosemary spring to each craft stick and let dry.

Cut a 12” piece of ribbon, wrap around one star point and tie the ribbon.

Hang your Rosemary wreath inside so you can smell it all day.

DIY Christmas Gifts

Presents just mean so much more when they are homemade. It’s easier than you think to get crafty and it’s fun when you can incorporate the kids or even girlfriends. Just add a class of wine for the later!

This craft makes a really fun DIY Christmas Gift. It would be nice for a teacher (your child could participate), for a hostess gift, or even for yourself! It’s inexpensive and easy on the wallet. An Advent Calendar was something that came late to us in Christmas Traditions. It was something I did growing up by lighting a Christmas candle and because I was unaware of other types of calendars, it wasn’t a tradition we formed in our own home until my girls adopted it on their own.

What is Advent?

Advent means the arrival of a notable person, thing, or event. For Christmas, the season of Advent is the time of four Sundays and weeks before Christmas. In Latin, Advent means coming. For Christmas, this is the coming of Christ or the birth of Jesus. Christians use this season of Advent to prepare and remember the real meaning of Christmas. The birth of Christ.

What is an Advent Calendar?

An Advent Calendar is a popular Christmas Tradition for Families. Typically beginning on December 1st, an Advent calendar is a 24-day calendar used to count the days of Advent in anticipation of Christmas. The start date of a religious Advent calendar can vary year to year based on the church, but in every day American tradition, the calendar begins on the first day of December.

On each additional day of advent, a box (envelope, bag, present) is opened. There is only one opening a day. The point of the calendar is not to countdown, but rather to count up towards the days before Christmas. The internet is big on the debate of, do you start with the first number (one) or with the highest number on the calendar. While the entire Advent community is torn, as a family we have started with day one. Think about it like this: if you were using candles for your advent calendar, you’d want to end up with 24 lit candles, not one candle lit.

Homemade Advent Calendar DIY

More and more the tradition of Advent Calendars are beginning to stick. While it used to be hard to find an advent calendar, they can commonly be found online (like Amazon) or in stores like Kohl’s and Target. One way to keep your home smelling good this Thanksgiving (and Christmas) season is with a Simmer Pot. A simmer pot takes natural ingredients and warms them on the stove releasing a combination of scents into the air making your home smell warm and inviting to guests.

Because I am a terrible host, I put together our Hosting Tips and Tricks post. You guys must know the struggle is real, because you guys have pinned this post like crazy! In fact, I will spend a good chuck of it flying my girls back and forth from Florida to Virginia, only to not celebrate with them. I am not looking forward to it. This Thanksgiving is our first ever Friendsgiving – time with friends and giving thanks for the “family” we have 1,000 miles away from family by blood.

What is Friendsgiving?

Friendsgiving is not that old. It originated in 2009. It is a celebration of Thanksgiving among friends when you can’t be around family (or chose not to be) for the holidays.

This Fall Simmer Pot Recipe would be perfect for your stovetop if you are hosting!

Fall Simmer Pot Recipe Ingredients

The prep time for this simmer pot is only 5 minutes.

1 orange, cut into chunks
1 apple, cut into chunks
1 sprig rosemary
3 cinnamon sticks (This is a great price per stick!)
Water

Another suggestion is to keep the apple whole and press cloves into the apple. The cloves would replace the cinnamon sticks. Amazon also sells cinnamon essential oil and clove essential oil if you would prefer to add oils instead of the actual product. I think the product looks so beautiful so it would be something I would keep, but I wanted to give you the option.

You can use any pot to simmer that holds your ingredients but I fell in love with this discounted cooper simmer pot, isn’t it beautiful!?

Save this recipe for later. Print your recipe and add it to your recipe box or recipe binder! This is my favorite Recipe Binder – I get tired of printing the same recipe over and over. A binder keeps me organized and gives me a place to store my recipes.

3. Add more water to the pan as needed. This will be necessary the longer you cook.

1. Place all ingredients in the bowl of the slow cooker. Fill your Crock-Pot with water. The water line should be about 1 to 2 cm about your ingredients.
2. Turn the slow cooker on high and allow to cook with the lid off.
3. Add more water to the slow cooker as needed. This will be necessary the longer you cook.
4. Discard ingredients after use.

Fall Simmer Pot Recipe Directions

What is Elf on the Shelf?

Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition. The tradition has a book and a elf doll. The book is poetic and in rhyme sharing the purpose of the Elf’s visits. The Elf visits each Thanksgiving. He/She goes and returns from the North Pole each evening. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. The Elf has been found in the refrigerator, fishing in the toilet, writing messages on the mirror or hanging from the lights. It is VERY IMPORTANT, the Elf is not touch each evening or his Christmas magic will be lost! Each family is able to name their special elf. That Elf sometimes gets lazy, distracted and completely unaware of what he is supposed to do, right?

Here are 25 solid ones that are completely factual about our little Elf on a Shelf:

1) He’s Tired or Sick. Be sure to “doctor” him back to health before relocation, drop him some medicine and maybe a band-aid.

2) It’s a Trick – He moved and came back to the same spot! He really likes this spot. Don’t you notice how his leg is a little different?

3) He Fell Asleep Waiting on You to Fall Asleep. Be sure to make sure you in bed on time.

4) He’s Teleworking Today. This is an important skill for Elves as they get older.

5) FAA Grounded All Elves due to Storms. This is a good time to turn on the Weather Channel.

6) He Sprained His Ankle. Place and ace bandage and some Advil beside him.

7) He Heard You Turn Over In Bed Last Night. He thought you were getting up and froze!

8) He Stayed Up Late Watching The Weather Channel (For the North Pole) and got Distracted. Again, this is a good time to turn on the weather channel.

10) He ate too much and did not feel like moving. Drop off some Pepto-Bismol and maybe some Saltines.

11) It is my fault. I got up to use the bathroom and I bet he stayed put because of it. Apologize to the kids and promise to be quieter tonight.

12) Our dog (cat, etc) kept on moving and would not give him room to move. When all else goes wrong, blaming the pet always works.

13) He is on North Pole time. He still might move. Move Elf after the kids go to school.

14) He had jet lag. He had to visit the North Pole twice last night. Give him a pen and paper so he can take notes. This will prevent him for having to go to the NP twice for forgetting to share information with Santa.

15) He couldn’t leave because of an Elf traffic Jam. Tonight, half the elves will visit Santa while the other half stay behind until the can clear the transport holes.

16) It is a super special Elf Holiday! Do something special for elf. He loves balloons, streamers, cookies, anything that celebrates his Elf Holiday.

17) Elf had a gift wrapping party with the other elves and forgot to move places when he came back. While the kids are not looking, place remnants of wrapping paper around the house for you, or them, to uncover.

18) It was a test to see if you are paying attention. You pass!

19) He sent the message to the North Pole via federal express. He was tired. Give him a blanket and pillow.

20) He sent the message with a friend’s Elf so he didn’t have to travel. That’s friendship!

21) You stayed up too late! Did you fall asleep right away? We’re you talking?

22) He wanted to move but the eggnog was weighing him down. Again, drop off some Pepto-Bismol and maybe some Saltines.

23) He did move…but only a few inches. Look, can’t you see?!

24) His Christmas Spirit must be low! Can we sing to him to boost him back up? Even elves get down now and then!

We have brought you a new Elf on the Shelf Ideas EVERY DAY (in November and December) for the past six years. During summer, we miss you. The warm temperatures give us a lonely feeling and we wanted to wave hello from the beach or North Pole.

Send a post card from your elf this summer, giving your little one a greeting from the sand and shore or just outside Santa’s workshop up north.

Elf on the Shelf Postcards

Supplies Needed:

Printer (or print service)
Pen
Gluestick
Stamp (Grab a Christmas Forever Stamp)
North Pole and/or beach postcard printable (see below)

Directions:

Print your postcard and cut the front and back of the postcard out. Write your message and address your postcard. Use a gluemstick to stick the front and back of the postcard together. Trim the edges as needed so the card aligns perfect. Add a stamp and send in the mail to your child.

I changed my media to 8.5×10 and the media to 67 lb cover stock (I prefer a card stock feel over printer paper feel.)
