Heading to the beach this summer and looking for some cute jewelry to wear while you’re lounging on the sand or out at dinner or around town? We have some fabulous Necklace Accessories for the Beach, and you’re going to want all of them!

Layered necklaces are in right now, and this Bohemian Golden Coin Multilayer Necklace is one that every woman needs. It’s simple yet makes a statement with its double strands. This is one you’ll wear all the time.

I love long necklaces so much more than shorter necklaces because of the way they hang. This Long Chain Turquoise Necklace with Coin Pendant is so pretty, and it would look fabulous with anything from a tee or tank to your favorite dress.

If you love chokers, you’ll want to grab this Boho Natural Stone Turquoise Agate Necklace. The turquoise color is perfect for the beach! This is one you can layer with a longer necklace, too, for a different look.

Tassel necklaces are trending right now, and this Bohemian Beaded Tassel Necklace makes a statement. I love the light colors. This is one you’ll want to wear all the time as well.

I’ve always loved the Shell Choker Necklace. These were popular when I was a teen, and they’re back in style now. The shells make it perfect for your beach trips and nights out.

How fun is this Bohemian Conch Seashell Necklace?? I love the length, and boho look, and the shell just screams beach vacation. This would be fun to wear at home, too, to make yourself think about the beach.

Are you following all our Elf on the Shelf Ideas? We have plenty of creative elf ideas for the holiday season, but sometimes the worst happens – Elf on the Shelf Didn’t Move. Take a look at these 25 reasons your elf lost magic!

Elf on the Shelf Didn’t Move!

Reasons Elf on the Shelf Didn't Move

It is inevitable. Even with hundreds of Elf on the Shelf Ideas floating in your head, you forget. One morning, your child will wake you up upset because that funny Elf on a Shelf is in the same spot as when he or she went to bed. That Elf sometimes gets lazy, distracted and completely unaware of what he is supposed to do, right?

It happens! Don’t worry mom.

move-elf-tip-frugal-coupon-living

Before you make your next move, go to your phone. On your calendar, set an alarm or reminder for the next x-number of days. Remind yourself each evening with a simple acronym EOTS. I used to set mine for 10 PM, but as my kid population increased, my reminder is now 9:30 PM. I need sleep too.

Next, study these 25 Elf on the Shelf Ideas your Elf didn’t move. You need to be prepared with a quick answer. Many of these reasons are very reasonable! If elf just lost his magic, be sure to use this Magic Gripper Elf on the Shelf printable to move him!

Elf on Shelf Ideas – Your Elf Didn’t Move!

So what are we to tell the kids when this happens? Do you have some ready made reasons?

Here are 25 solid ones that are completely factual about our little Elf on a Shelf:

1) He’s Tired or Sick. Be sure to “doctor” him back to health before relocation, drop him some medicine and maybe a band-aid.

2) It’s a Trick – He moved and came back to the same spot! He really likes this spot. Don’t you notice how his leg is a little different?

3) He Fell Asleep Waiting on You to Fall Asleep. Be sure to make sure you in bed on time.

4) He’s Teleworking Today. This is an important skill for Elves as they get older.

5) FAA Grounded All Elves due to Storms. This is a good time to turn on the Weather Channel.

6) He Sprained His Ankle. Place and ace bandage and some Advil beside him.

7) He Heard You Turn Over In Bed Last Night. He thought you were getting up and froze!

8) He Stayed Up Late Watching The Weather Channel (For the North Pole) and got Distracted. Again, this is a good time to turn on the weather channel.

9) He is stuck! Make sure you save him and get him loose, leave some ropes or a ladder. You could also use the Elf on the Shelf Magic Grippers (free printable!)

10) He ate too much and did not feel like moving. Drop off some Pepto-Bismol and maybe some Saltines.

11) It is my fault. I got up to use the bathroom and I bet he stayed put because of it. Apologize to the kids and promise to be quieter tonight.

12) Our dog (cat, etc) kept on moving and would not give him room to move. When all else goes wrong, blaming the pet always works.

13) He is on North Pole time. He still might move. Move Elf after the kids go to school.

14) He had jet lag. He had to visit the North Pole twice last night.  Give him a pen and paper so he can take notes. This will prevent him for having to go to the NP twice for forgetting to share information with Santa.

15) He couldn’t leave because of an Elf traffic Jam. Tonight, half the elves will visit Santa while the other half stay behind until the can clear the transport holes.

16) It is a super special Elf Holiday! Do something special for elf. He loves balloons, streamers, cookies, anything that celebrates his Elf Holiday.

17) Elf had a gift wrapping party with the other elves and forgot to move places when he came back. While the kids are not looking, place remnants of wrapping paper around the house for you, or them, to uncover.

18) It was a test to see if you are paying attention. You pass!

19) He sent the message to the North Pole via federal express. He was tired. Give him a blanket and pillow.

20) He sent the message with a friend’s Elf so he didn’t have to travel. That’s friendship!

21) You stayed up too late! Did you fall asleep right away? We’re you talking?

22) He wanted to move but the eggnog was weighing him down.  Again, drop off some Pepto-Bismol and maybe some Saltines.

23) He did move…but only a few inches. Look, can’t you see?!

24) His Christmas Spirit must be low! Can we sing to him to boost him back up? Even elves get down now and then!

25) Santa gave him the day off for being such a good elf! Give him a star and let him know how proud you are of him.

I was listening to podcasts for the longest time, and I got tired of the same old story. Self help, current events, murder mysteries, and they were just too much. I was ready for fiction and narratives. Below are books I have been reading this month. There are some good ones, enjoy and be sure to share your favorites too!

I choose Audible to read. You can get three free months today!

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens – I picked up this book because it was recommended by a lot of people. I can see why. It was a really good read. Kya, is a young girl who grows up alone. That deterred me. I dislike reading stories when I hate the main characters situation. I also wondered if it would keep my attention, since it was the solo adventure of one person, but it did! Definitely add to your wish list.

For years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life–until the unthinkable happens.

Perfect for fans of Barbara Kingsolver and Karen Russell, Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah – I think this was my favorite of the four. There is domestic violence, and that is hard to read, but I really fell in love with the characters and I also fell in love with Alaska. The author does an amazing job of capturing your setting. Makes me want to take a trip to the wilderness! Highly recommended! Also read The Nightingale by the same author.

Set in 1974 Alaska, this sweeping tale follows a girl coping with the dangers of domestic violence. Though ill-prepared for the extreme and harsh conditions, 13-year-old Leni and her parents, Ernt and Cora, have to learn how to survive in the unforgiving wild of their new home on the Kenai Peninsula. With the help of the small-knit community of endearing fellow homesteaders, the Allbrights manage to just barely stay afloat. But Ernt, who has never recovered from the trauma of fighting in the Vietnam War, struggles with the isolation and the interminably dark days of winter. Leni grows up witnessing her father (who is increasingly unable to control his paranoia and jealousy) abuse her beloved mother. Leni’s greatest comfort and escape is her schoolmate and neighbor Matthew. Over the years, their friendship evolves into a forbidden romance. Hannah highlights, with vivid description, the natural dangers of Alaska juxtaposed against incongruous violence. .

Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan – Oh boy! Great book but frustrating none the less. I had not seen the movie, so I wanted to read this book first. Really interesting to see the dynamic of this family as they get to know Rachel. I am ready to see the movie now. Can anyone compare the two?

When New Yorker Rachel Chu agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend, Nicholas Young, she envisions a humble family home and quality time with the man she hopes to marry. But Nick has failed to give his girlfriend a few key details. One, that his childhood home looks like a palace; two, that he grew up riding in more private planes than cars; and three, that he just happens to be the country’s most eligible bachelor.

On Nick’s arm, Rachel may as well have a target on her back the second she steps off the plane, and soon, her relaxed vacation turns into an obstacle course of old money, new money, nosy relatives, and scheming social climbers.

When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi and Abraham Verghese – I am only in the middle of this book, but so far I like it. It’s a stray from my normal non-fiction story and is the autobiography of a neurosurgeon and his own health journey. I read when I was in poor health, so it was captivating to refocus my own thought – what makes life worth living. I think it’s a must read for everyone!

This inspiring, exquisitely observed memoir finds hope and beauty in the face of insurmountable odds as an idealistic young neurosurgeon attempts to answer the question What makes a life worth living?

As a reminder, get 3 months FREE on Audible. You can also purchase these books online if you prefer a hard copy.

How to Make An Easy Marshmallow Shooter

This July Fourth, make sure to add this Easy Marshmallow Shooter to your list of activities for the kids. This DIY Marshmallow Launcher combines a cup, a balloon and many laughs.

Easy Marshmallow Shooter

Marshmallow Shooters

For obvious reasons, the Fourth of July is always big in our home location of Washington, D.C. Since having the younger kids, however, we do not always get out together in the evening for the big fire works. One of us goes leaving the other home with the kids. It’s a balance as finding a babysitter on July 4th isn’t really an option.  Every time it is my turn to get out with the kids, I get tears in my eyes. Nothing makes you more patriotic than watching fireworks with the National Monument(s) in the background. The years that I stay home with the younger kids, however, the warm feeling of the holiday disappears. It’s just another “day.” To involve the younger kids this year, and still have some holiday fun at home, we created these Marshmallows Shooters.

Add this to your list of Summer Bucket Items and Upcycled Crafts. All it takes is a toilet paper roll, scrap paper and a balloon. Of course you will need marshmallows, use the extra marshmallows to create these Seasonal Rice Krispies Treats.

Marshmallow Launcher Supplies:

  • Toilet paper rolls
  • Scrapbook paper (we used red and white stripe)
  • Balloons (we used blue)
  • Rubber bands
  • Glue stick
  • Marshmallows

Each toilet paper roll and balloon makes one shooter.

DIY Easy Marshmallow Shooters

To create these shooters honestly takes a matter of minutes. The hardest part is getting the perfect cut of scrap paper and gluing it on the toilet paper roll!

Easy Marshmallow Shooter Directions:

First, cut the striped scrapbook paper to fit around the toilet paper roll and glue into place.

Tie a knot in the bottom of a balloon (not inflated).

Next, cut off the top (round part) off the balloon.

Wrap the open end of the balloon around the bottom of the toilet paper roll and secure with a rubber band.

To use, place a marshmallow in the shooter and pull the knotted end back. Let go of the balloon to shoot the marshmallow out.

Our Pinterest community and I  would love to see how this worked out for you. Share your final craft.  Leave a comment and/or add a photo here on Pinterest!

EOS Printable – Keep Cool This Summer

Looking for a cute end of the year gift for students or teachers alike? This fun printable incorporates eos lip balm a fun summer wish – keep cool this summer. Use traditional lip balm flavors including sweet mint, passion fruit, strawberry sorbet or tangerine.

Most eos lip balms cost about about $3, so if you are doing this for an entire classroom, expect to pay about $60. You can buy eos bulk on Amazon, but I am not seeing it for much less than $3. In fact, some of the bulk packages cost over $3/piece.  You might be best running up to target and adding a bunch to your shopping cart. I saw them both in the health (near the band-aids) section, on end caps and also near checkout. At Walgreens, I have seen them for B1G1 50% off but they were at $3.99/piece. That would make each the same price as Target (not on sale at $2.99/each.)

If the price becomes too high for you to give to an entire classroom, consider use for a smaller gathering of friends or gift to a teacher! She will appreciate one in her pool bag this summer!

Glow in the Dark Party Ideas

My research is done. I am so ready to throw one of my kids a glow party! I think I want this themed party as much as them. There are so many cool ideas to pull of the ultimate, most raging, glow-in-the-dark party for the kids.

Keep in mind, for the ultimate glow in the dark party, you will need a black light. Black light allows a neon spectrum, invisible to the natural eye, to glow. Otherwise, you will not have that pop with your colors and things will appear neon but not glow with the lights out!

Black lights emit most of their light waves just outside the range humans can perceive, in the Ultraviolet (UV) part of the spectrum. When a UV light wave hits an object containing substances known as phosphors, those phosphors will naturally fluoresce, and glow. Source: Today I Found Out.
