Be sure to set your DVR or Home Recorder so you can enjoy these movies YEAR-ROUND!

What is Elf on the Shelf?

Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition. The tradition has a book and a elf doll. The book is poetic and in rhyme sharing the purpose of the Elf’s visits. The Elf visits each Thanksgiving. He/She goes and returns from the North Pole each evening. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. The Elf has been found in the refrigerator, fishing in the toilet, writing messages on the mirror or hanging from the lights. It is VERY IMPORTANT, the Elf is not touch each evening or his Christmas magic will be lost! Each family is able to name their special elf. The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve. An Elf’s Story can also be found on DVD

Online you can find ENDLESS Elf on the Shelf Accessories, Books, Games and Toys.

Christmas Tree Rice Krispie Treats

Celebrate the season with these festive Christmas Tree Rice Krispie Treats. We love how simple they are to make and how many food crafting fun options there are with them. Mix it up this year, instead of cookie decorating make a forest of these little trees and have the kiddos decorate them to their hearts content. They will love adding icing, sprinkles and candy to make their own special trees. This would also be a fun food craft to take to a classroom party. Happy holidays!

Ingredients:

  • 6 cup Rice Krispies Cereal
  • 3 tbsp Butter
  • 10.5 oz Marshmallows
  • Green Food Coloring
  • 12 Miniature Reese’s Cups
  • 1/3 cup M&M Minis
  • 12 Candy Stars
  • 3 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 3 tbsp Milk
  • 3 tbsp Corn Syrup

Directions:

  1. To help in forming the cone shape, I took the foam that comes in a waffle cone pack to protect the cones and cut it to make a form to help shape the trees.
  2. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  3. In a medium to large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
  4. Add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted.
  5. Add enough food coloring to make mixture dark green (it will lighten when cereal is added).
  6. Remove from heat.
  7. Add the Rice Krispies cereal and stir until cereal is well coated.
  8. Allow to set about 4 minutes.

During the holiday season you may want to take an easier route for food crafting fun. Make Snowman Grahams instead for a fun treat and easy clean up! They’d be perfect to make for a food crafting playdate with a few kiddos or, why not make this part of your larger holiday party with kids? Any group will love these sweet treats!

Ingredients:

  • Graham crackers
  • Regular marshmallows
  • Jet puffed mallow bits
  • Wilton sparkle gel: red, green, and black
  • Wilton orange candy melts

Directions:

  1. Begin by cutting your marshmallows in half so that you have two circles for every marshmallow.
  2. Place three marshmallow halves onto each graham cracker like pictured.
  3. Now cut the sides off your orange candy melts to make a small triangle from each one.
  4. Use the sparkle gel as glue to glue it onto the center of the top marshmallow.
  5. Now with your black sparkle gel, paint on the snowman’s eyes, mouth, buttons, and arms.
  6. Again using the sparkle gel as glue, glue your marshmallow bits on the graham cracker, around the snowman to look like snow.
  7. To finish your snowman, paint on a scarf with your green sparkle gel, and use the red sparkle gel to make polka dots onto the scarf.

If it’s a weekend morning for us, it probably includes a breakfast with Cinnamon Rolls. We love them! We had fun with these cinnamon rolls turning them into Christmas trees with green food coloring, some Christmas sprinkles and and Twizzlers Pull and Peel candy.  This recipe is so easy only requiring a few additional touches to get your final Christmas Food Craft – we think the kids will love it! Enjoy.

Ingredients:

  • Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls with Icing
  • Green Food Coloring
  • Christmas sprinkes (we used The Geeky Hostess Natural Colored Star Sprinkles)
  • Red Twizzlers Pull and Peel

Supplies:

  • Parchment paper
  • Toothpick
  • Knife for frosting
  • Baking pan

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400° and line a baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Open your cinnamon roll packaging and your cinnamon roll dough and set the icing aside.
  3. Press two of your cinnamon roll doughs together and roll out into a long snake like figure.
  4. Repeat step 3 with each piece of dough, making 4 dough snakes.
  5. Form your dough snakes into Christmas trees by using a back and forth motion while placing your dough onto your pan.
  6. Bake for 12-14 minutes or until your cinnamon rolls have a nice golden look to them.
  7. Add a drop of your green coloring into your icing and mix with a toothpick.
  8. Use a knife to frost each cinnamon roll tree with your green icing.
  9. Sprinkle your stars onto each tree and pull apart your pull and peel licorice.
  10. Cut your pull and peel into smaller pieces and place onto you Christmas trees in a zig zag pattern to look like garland.
