Instant Pot Pesto Chicken

Instant Pot Pesto Chicken Recipe

I have five children. When it comes to week night dinners, two things are very important to me. First that my family loves the recipes and it fits the taste buds and dietary needs of all. Second, it is important to me that my time is used efficiently. During the dinner hour I am chauffeuring children, aiding in homework and balancing three babies. I need a quick, easy, and tasty meal. That is one reason I love this Instant Pot Pesto Chicken Recipe. Enjoy.

While it’s possible to fill Christmas traditions for the family in an entire season, these ideas focus on “The Night Before Christmas.” Follow these Christmas Eve Traditions to create family memories for years and even generations. What are you doing December 24th?

Christmas Eve Traditions

Christmas Eve Family Traditions

As our family has grown, traveling for family Christmas is occurring less frequently. It’s always nice to have extended family gathered around the Christmas tree, but the truth is, we pretty much take up the entire circumference.  With a complete family, I have found it important to carry on, and begin new, Christmas Traditions.

Our first Christmas tradition has been Elf on the Shelf. Our family began this tradition in 2013 and we have continued it every Christmas season since. Since Christmas Eve is usually a slow paced day, I decided to roll other family traditions into this day. This included reading Christmas books before bed, making a Birthday Cake for Jesus, going to look at holiday lights, finishing our advent calendar and wearing matching Christmas Pajamas.

While many of these Christmas Eve traditions are ones that a lot of families do, also take a look at some of these unique family traditions that might be a bit out of the box. Perhaps you will try something new and it will stick for years (and generations) to come.

What To Do Christmas Eve

With places closed, there are many things to do Christmas Eve. Focus Christmas Eve on family. Stay home and follow these creative ideas including visiting Christmas lights, family game night, a Christmas movie-a-thon, baking, Christmas crafts, activities and more.

Host a Family Game Night

Christmas 60 Second Challenge Games

Have a Family Game Night (or day.) Play reindeer games, just like Rudolph and his friends. A holiday Christmas Minute to Win it Game Night would be fun, or split into two teams for a Christmas Name that Tune family game night.

These 19 Christmas Party Games can be played with a large group or a small group. Whatever the party size, we think they will involve a lot of laughs! Comes with our Name that Tune Christmas printable and Christmas charade cards.

Ginger Bread House Template and Hot Glue Gun Hack

Don’t make today challenging. Make a Ginger Bread House. You can purchase a Ginger Bread House Kit or make an easy graham cracker ginger bread kit.  Pull out some of that unwanted Halloween candy (since you won’t be tempted to eat it.)  Alice and Lois share the best glue is actually hot glue. They also share a graham crackers gingerbread house template. All the more reason to keep it for a pretty display.

Magic Reindeer Food Printable & Recipe

25+ Christmas Traditions to Start Right Now

Recently we moved from Florida (my home state of 30+ years) to the Washington, DC area. This put us away from extended family in in a while new world of focusing on our core family. My girls are in the early stages of elementary school and are beginning to understand the real meaning of Christmas. Santa, and additionally the Elf on the Shelf, have gone out the window (yes, he no longer comes down the chimney) and my focus is now on finding activities during the Christmas season that reflect not only family, but reason for the season – The Birth of Christ.  One of the ways we have gotten back to the basics is through our family Advent Calendar.

Erase cries of “I’m bored” with a list of Kid’s Road Trip Games for the Car. You can download this free printable Road Trip Scavenger Hunt to keep the kids busy until you reach your final destination. Honk if this makes you happy!

Road Trip Scavenger Hunt

Road Trip Scavenger Hunt

Keeping the kids busy in the car is a lot easier than when we were growing up, no? Between game systems, tablets, e-readers, audio books and movies, it’s easier to get fewer and fewer complaints of “I’m bored!” Of course, when it is uttered, we all have a long story of “Let me tell you what it means to be bored. When I was growing up….”

While your kids might have plenty of resources for staying distracted in the car, we wanted to provide you with some newer ideas to keep their minds fresh, to keep family engaged, and to just go back to some of the original “old school” resources of a paper and pencil.

Road Trip Games for the Car

Before embarking on a road trip (Or any travel for that matter), I try to pick up at least one or two new items. This often includes road trip games. Having something that is new 1.) buys time learning the game 2.) kills time enjoying the game 3.) and often gets reused because it was … well, enjoyable.

How to Play Road Trip Scavenger Hunt

We created a collection of Printable Scavenger Hunts for Kids, but one thing that was missing was a Road Trip Scavenger Hunt. Take a look at this printable game as well as Road Trip Games in the car for the kids.

Our road trip scavenger hunt is general enough, it can be played on most any adventure. You can make the game your own identifying your family’s rules and directions or follow these directions for how to a play road trip scavenger hunt.

Directions

Each player gets their own printable game board. Set the game for a certain amount of time (30 minutes, one hour, the entire trip.) As you travel down the road, check off items you see on your journey. You must identify the object out loud before checking it off. Once that object has been identified by the first player, the same object cannot be used to check off another players box. They will need to find that same object in another place. For example, if player A finds a deer they announce “deer” and check it off on their scavenger hunt printable. All other players must wait to find another deer before they can check it off. The first person to check off all their scavenger hunt boxes wins or the  person with the most checks at the end of the time limit, is the winner.

To set up a scavenger hunt with rhyming clues, first order your Christmas treasure hunt clues. Some of these hints might not fit your home, for example you might not have a garage or fireplace. Omit those scavenger hunt riddles and add only the clues you have. Once your scavenger hunt clues are numbered in order, begin to lay them around your home for the proper locations. Save the first clue to give it to the scavenger hunt player.

Get into the holiday spirit! One great idea is to make this Scavenger Hunt a Christmas Tradition and leave at the end of the hunt a Christmas Eve Gift with a sweet note from your Elf saying good-bye or how wonderful their “nice” behavior has been. This rainbow scavenger hunt will help you toddlers learn to identify colors and keep them entertained! Download many free scavenger hunt ideas for kids, preschoolers, and more.

Rainbow Scavenger Hunt to Teach Toddlers Their Colors

Recognizing colors is an important skill that kids can learn as early as 2 or 3 years old. It’s typically one of the first things parents teach their children, along with shapes and letters. Colors will be taught in preschool and kindergarten, but you can start exposing your child to the names of colors long before they head off to class.

One of the easiest ways to help your children identify colors and know color names is by pointing them out in their environment. When you go to the park, mention how green the grass is, or how white the puffy clouds are in the sky. Point out a blue or red car. If you take your child grocery shopping, they can find a number of different colors just within the produce aisle.

Learning opportunities are really all around us every single day!

Rainbow Scavenger Hunt – Teaching Toddlers Their Colors

A great indoor scavenger hunt that we have put together involves finding the colors of the rainbow inside your home. This is the perfect activity for a rainy day when it’s too miserable to play outside. You will still want to entertain your toddler, and with this free printable scavenger hunt, they learn while having fun!

Print the scavenger hunt when you are ready to play with your toddler. You can leave it as a full sheet or cut it up into cards to make them smaller for your little one’s hands. Read and follow the directions on each card to have your child roaming around the house looking for colors!

Rainbow Scavenger Hunt Printable Game - Scavenger Hunt Ideas for Kids

The following instructions are on this free rainbow scavenger hunt:

  • Find something in your bedroom that is red
  • Something in the toy box that is orange
  • Find something in the kitchen that is yellow
  • Something outside that is green
  • Find something in your closet that is blue
  • Something on a shelf that is purple
  • Find something in a drawer that is pink
  • Something on the floor that is brown
  • Find something in the living room that is black
  • Something in the bathroom that is white

Making this Scavenger Hunt Printable More Fun

Each time you play this game with your toddler, encourage them to find new things that are the color you are looking for. You can also mix it up, such as finding something in the toy box that is blue and something in the closet that’s orange. This keeps the game fresh so they are always learning new places to find their colors.

The more exposure you give them to color names, the faster they will catch on!

It won’t be long before your little one will be able to tell you the colors of things: balls, cars, food, etc. And if you ever want to give rewards, try giving them an M&M of the right color once they find it in the game!

Best drawing, wins.
