Hard Boiled Egg Snowman on Frugal Coupon LIving

Boiled Egg Snowmen

Kids love to be in the kitchen creating, learning and having fun! As much as we love making sweet treats with them, sometimes we want a healthier food craft. These Boiled Egg Snowmen aren’t only too cute but, they’re a great source of protein and quick to make. Build your little snowman, wrap an onion scarf around his neck, add peppercorn eyes and buttons, use pretzel sticks for the arms and don’t forget that cute carrot hat and nose. We love these little snowmen and think your little ones will too!

Ingredients:

  • 6 Boiled Jumbo Eggs
  • 6 Boiled Medium Eggs
  • 2 Carrots
  • Peppercorns
  • Pretzel Sticks
  • Green onion stems

Directions:

  1. Slice off a small section from top and bottom of each egg to allow them to stand and stack neatly.
  2. If you are going to serve soon, you can use pretzel sticks to join each piece and they will be completely edible. If they need to sit for a while, the pretzels will become to soggy, so you will have to use wooden skewers.
  3. Even if you are using pretzels, you will need to pierce the egg and carrot before pushing pretzels through.
  4. Push a pretzel stick down into large egg to make body and place smaller egg on top.
  5. Peel carrots.
  6. Slice the thick end of carrot into six 1/8″ slices to use as hat brims.
  7. Slice middle of carrot (or smaller carrot) into six 3/4-1″ slices for top of hat.
  8. Use skewer to “pre-drill” hole in carrots to allow pretzel to connect them with remainder of stick extending below brim.
  9. Push assembled hat down onto head.
  10. Take the small end of a carrot (about 1/2″) and cut lengthwise into six sections to use as noses.
  11. Using a toothpick, pierce “face” egg in the middle and insert the nose.
Pierce for the two eyes and four spots to make a mouth and press in peppercorns.
  12. Pierce the “body” egg three spots to make buttons and press in peppercorns.
  13. Break a pretzel in half and insert a piece in each side of the body to make arms.
  14. You can optionally use green onion stems to make a hat band and scarf.
  15. Split the green tube and open it up.
  16. Gently scrape the blade along the inside of the opened stem to remove stiffness.
  17. Trim the softened piece to make scarf or hatband and wrap in place.

Pumpkin Caramel Reglazed Glazed Donuts Title

Pumpkin Caramel Reglazed Glazed Donuts

It’s fall and for me Autumn means donuts. Donuts with my morning coffee, evening hot chocolate or late night tea.

Today I looked at a brand new box of Krispy Kreme donuts on the counter, and I thought to myself, “Self, let’s try something different!” That something turned out to be cooking up some apples and adding a bit of a pumpkin puree to warm caramel then ladling the whole shebang onto oven warmed glazed donuts and adding a {healthy} dollop of whipped cream.

The results were delicious! Don’t stop there with the sauce! Add it to pancakes or even top ice cream with it! YUM!

Ingredients:

  • 2 glazed donuts, I used Krispy Kreme
  • 1 apple, sliced thinly
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons of pumpkin puree
  • 6 – 8 tablespoons of caramel
  • whip cream

Directions:

  1. In a skillet add butter, apples, sugar and cinnamon, cook on medium to low heat until apples are caramelized. Remove from heat and set aside.
  2. In a sauce pan add caramel and pumpkin puree, over medium heat using a wire whisk stir until caramel and pumpkin puree are incorporated.
  3. Stack donuts and add caramelized apples, add warm pumpkin caramel sauce over donuts and top with whip cream.

Take a look at these Thanksgiving Food Treats featured on Rachel Ray (seen here!)

Turkey Sugar Cookies (Pin it to Pinterest)

This recipe is the most simplistic. Make the attached sugar cookie recipe or grab a pre-made store brand. Use icing as glue and create decadent feathers with candy corn.

Turkey Nutter Butter Cookies (Pin it to Pinterest)

The most popular Thanksgiving Food Craft, the flexibility of this food craft is nice. How much you want to go with this cookie is up to you. You can have a stand up turkey or a lay down turkey instead.  Add left over Halloween candy to spruce up the design or keep it simplistic with icing and candy corn.

Rolo Pilgram Hats (Pin it to Pinterest)

On the show we made these with chocolate peanut butter cups but you can also do with caramel cups. Pick up store bought frosted fudge cookies and glue on the top of the hat to make the perfect little snack for your little Pilgrim.

Chocolate Covered Oreo Turkeys (Pin it to Pinterest)

This turkey craft is likely for experienced and steady of hands baker. Mix colors and create bright feathers on your Oreo Turkey using a pretzel as a template. Again, how little or how much of the activity and design you want to do is up to you.

Aromatherapy Playdoh on Frugal Coupon Living Smaller

Essential Oils Playdough Recipe

This Homemade Aromatherapy Play Dough is so fun. It is easy to make, leaves the skin soft and has many health benefits. Consider these oils – Lavender, Lemon, Peppermint, Grapefruit or Orange. You can also make fun blends like Vanilla Lime, Citrus (Orange, Lemon, and Grapefruit), Lemon Mint or Lavender Lemon.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1.5 tablespoons vegetable oil (any kind of oil will work!)
  • Food coloring
  • 6-8 drops of essential oils of your choice (see blends we share in the post)

Directions:

  1. In a saucepan, stir the flour, salt, and cream of tartar together.
  2. Add in the water, cooking oil, and food coloring and mix until smooth.
  3. Turn on the heat to medium-low, and stir until the mixture forms a ball.
  4. Once the mixture has reached play dough-consistency, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool for 3-4 minutes.
  5. Knead in the essential oils of your choice. ( I poked a hole in the center, dropped in the oils and it mixed very easily)
  6. Store in an air-tight container. (Storing it in the fridge will make it last even longer!)

Tip: Are you feeling under the weather? Consider using Thieves Essential Oil.
