Homemade Bath Bombs for the Kids

Nowadays bath bombs are all the rage at beauty product stores like Macy’s, Bath & Body Works, and Sephora but unfortunately they cost an arm and a leg. The going rate is about $9/bath bomb. WHAT? That’s crazy considering you can make 4 to 6 of these at home in 5 minutes for 1/2 the price! You won’t believe how easy these are to make! Get the kids involved in the process. Make it a mini science lesson to show what you can create by mixing certain liquids and solids. What an awesome evening activity too, add a little Peace & Calming Essential Oil to help support bedtime wind-down. Then, they can use the bombs the next night before bed. They’ll love it!

For some people creating a large bath bomb, similar to the ones you see in the stores, is their plan! For that you will need to get on Amazon or head to Michael’s and pick up some clear circle molds. For the sake of my time and money I simply used cupcake molds I had in my pantry.

You can do so much with this recipe the possibilities are endless! Add a layer of fun – In the middle add a little magic grow animal pill and when the bath bomb dissolves it expands into a dolphin for the kids to enjoy! Super fun! These are great for adults too. Add chemical free food coloring if you are making these special for Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, or Teacher Appreciation Gifts! Hosting a birthday party anytime soon? These would make wonderful party favors!

TIP: Have all your ingredients set out ahead of time and read through these directions first so you have an idea of how to do this accurately. This recipe is quick and super affordable. It will produce 4-6 small bath bombs in a cupcake mold or 2-3 large bath bombs in the circle form.

Bath Bombs Recipe for Kids

For this surprise bath bombs recipe for kids, you will need to following ingredients.

  • a Bath Bomb Mold (you can also use a cupcake tray or we love these heart and flower shapes!)

  • 1/2 cup corn starch
  • 1/2 cup citric acid
  • 1/2 cup Epsom Salt
  • 3 teaspoons of water
  • 2 teaspoons of your favorite essential oil (I like to do relaxing oils so I use lavender, roman chamomile, or ylang ylang)
  • Optional: a couple drops of food coloring
  • Optional: magic grow animal pills

How to Make Bath Bombs for Kids

Just a few simple steps on how to make bath bombs for kids.

  1. Simply combined all of your dry ingredients, and whisk.
  2. In a separate bowl, combined all of your wet ingredients, and whisk.
  3. Very quickly mix the dry & wet ingredients together and whisk as fast as you can to avoid a reaction.
  4. Once you are done whisking all the ingredients together it will feel similar to damp sand.
  5. Place the mixture into your mold and pack it very full. If you are using a secret magic grow animal pill, place it in the middle of the mold as you pack!
  6. If they are in a flat mold (not ball) level off.
  7. Allow these to sit in the refrigerator for 24 hours.
  8. Store in an airtight container.

Homemade Lavender Linen Spray

I am loving my Essential Oils. One of my favorite and most calming scents is Lavender. I love to use this Lavender Linen Spray on my pillows daily to help me fall and stay asleep, I also spritz my girls pillows with it – I think it is a secret to sleepy time success!

To keep from having a damp pillow I spray it in the morning after making the bed, the water dries but the smell and the benefits will linger throughout the day. If you want a stronger scent mist lightly an hour or so before bedtime. You can also use it on couches, curtains, and rugs to put the relaxing scent throughout your home. This spray can also be used when ironing your linens to give them a light scent as well, spritz lightly or pour right into water well of your iron.

Ingredients:

  • 4 oz. distilled water
  • 10 drops Lavender Essential Oil
  • spray bottle

Directions:

  1. Combine oil and distilled water in spray bottle, shake well to combine.

To Use:

  1. Shake well first then lightly mist pillows or blankets.

For anxious pets you can spray their beds or bedding, spritz the car interior for road trips, include a bottle in a basket with other items for a housewarming present (or for a new mother).

All Purpose Cleaner DIY

Making your own all-purpose cleaner could not be easier, is cheaper and is so much safer than the chemical filled bottles you pick up at the store. 4 ingredients are all you need (and maybe a little elbow grease) to create a safe, effective, and wonderfully scented cleaner that can be used on counters, appliances, floors, or anywhere else you need to clean and disinfect. The scent is lovely, fresh, and bright!

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup Water
  • 1 Cup Vinegar
  • 2 tsp. Dish Soap or Castile Soap
  • 10 drops Lavender Essential Oil
  • 10 drops Lemon Essential Oil (also nice with Orange)
  • Spray Bottle

Directions:

  1. The first time you make this, purchase vinegar in the large glass bottle. When you need more Vinegar,  it is more cost effective to purchase it by the gallon and refill (earth friendly too).
  2. Pour all ingredients into a Spray Bottle. Plastic tends to erode so try a glass spray bottle if you are usuing this solution long term. A Mason Jar works great too.
  3. Swirl gently to combine.
  4. Spray and wipe.

Enjoy.

You will have an initial light vinegar scent after use but that will dissipate when the vinegar dries. Vinegar and oils will cut grease, disinfects, and deodorize surfaces.

I suggest testing this out on your counter tops and floors before use. I do not recommend it on Travertine or Marble.

These homemade dishwasher tablets offer a hint of lemongrass. They are an easy recipe to add to your kitchen cleaning supplies. These DIY dishwasher pods store easily in the kitchen and are frugal-friendly!

Homemade Dishwasher Tablets with Lemongrass

We have been cleaning like crazy. Isn’t that what you do when you are nesting at home? Maybe it’s spring, maybe it’s the added germs, either way, I am working hard on deep cleaning the home both naturally but effectively.

Sometimes everyday household products can be made with the simplest of ingredients. Recently, we made homemade dishwasher tablets using Lemongrass.

If Lemongrass isn’t your scent, also consider orange, lavender, or your favorite smell for the kitchen!

Homemade Dishwashwer Pods Ingredients

Only a few ingredients you might even already have in your home!

  • 1-1/2 cup Arm & Hammer Washing Soda
  • 3 tablespoons Salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 45 drops essential oils (we used Lemongrass)
  • Silicon Mold

Optional: We stored ours in a glass jar with a lid. I would suggest a glass jar with an airtight lid.  I see many of them come with an adorable chalk label.

Natural Eye Redness Home Remedy

Always consult your doctor. I am not a medical professional.

Got Irriation? Eyes that are pink can be nothing but a nuisance. They are not pretty or fun. But it happens, so the best thing to do is to get rid of it as quickly as you can.  I do my best to avoid prescriptions in favor of essential oils as a natural treatment. I find this to be a great recipe for my bathroom cabinet. Just 3 Young Living Oils and a little bit of almond oil to create this effective relief  from minor redness without resorting to chemicals.

For relief from minor redness, eucalyptus radiata, lavender, and melaleuca are good oils to use – but I wouldn’t use it on children who couldn’t FOR SURE keep their hands away from their eyes all day long, because if they rub it in it will burn! This mixture goes on the outside of your eyes, away from your actual eye.

Ingredients:

  • 15 drops Eucalyptus Radiata
  • 7 drops Lavender
  • 7 drops Melaleuca
  • 1 Tbsp. almond oil
  • Dropper – I found this one on Amazon that would be perfect for this mixture!

Directions:

Combine eucalyptus, lavender, melaleuca, and almond oil in bottle – shake well.  To use: apply a small amount under eye just above the bone. Rub around the eye area like you are painting on glasses. Repeat as needed throughout day taking care to NOT get mixture inside eye at all.

If symptoms persist, see your doctor.

Homemade Chest Rub

Always consult your doctor before use or intake. I am not a doctor or medically trained physician.

We are still in the cold and flu season and while I have nothing against modern medicine and we use medicine when needed I prefer to keep chemicals to an absolute minimum. So one thing I can do is replace over the counter items for symptom relief with my Young Living Essential Oils, Juice Plus+ and other chemical free items. While I love the benefit of chest rubs, the chemicals…not so much. So I used a fabulous trifecta of oils to create the same thing minus the icky stuff – Lemon, Eucalyptus, and Peppermint.  These are great for the Winter and Fall Season!

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup coconut oil
  • 8-10 drops Eucalyptus essential oil
  • 8-10 drops Lemon essential oil
  • 8-10 drops Peppermint essential oil

Directions:

  1. Stir coconut oil and essential oils together until very well mixed. You can do this by hand with a spoon or spatula, or with a hand or stand mixer.

To Use:

  1. Apply to chest, below nose and alongside nose- take care to avoid eyes. I also suggest putting this on the bottom of your feet and then slipping on some socks – trust me!

This rub is safe to apply as needed throughout the day.

I recommend storing in a glass jar like a small mason jar because lemon will break down plastic and release toxins into your mixture. This mixture will melt in hot temperatures, I keep mine in the bathroom and it has only softened very little.
