DIY Friendship Kit Tutorial – Bracelet, Box & Clipboard

Remember making friendship bracelets? We used to always pin the ends to our jeans and lug around bags of different color threads. This kit will keep everything in one place and no more safety pins! Personalize the clipboard with fabulous papers that match your personality. Give these as a gift and use different papers to match their favorite color and add a monogram. There are so many ways you can embellish the clipboard! When you’re done, just clip the end of the bracelet to the clipboard and begin creating!

Supplies:

Clipboard
Thread Organizer Box
Mod Podge
E6000 Glue
Acrylic Paint (Chalk Paint would also be fun!)
Paint Brush
Scrapbook Paper
Scissors

Instructions:

First you will need to remove any price tags and paint the back of your clipboard.
While you are painting you will want to pay special attention to painting the edges of your clipboard.
While the paint is drying, begin working on the thread organizer. Select the scrapbook paper that you would like to use to cover the organizer. Measure and cut strips to fit the outside rim of the thread organizer.
Adhere the scrapbook paper on to the organizer using Mod Podge.
You will need one piece of scrapbook paper to cover the top of the organizer. Once the paper is secured and dry, use the E6000 glue (you can use hot glue, but this glue is very strong and will make sure that it does not separate.) to glue the bottom of the thread organizer to the back of the clipboard.
Next we will cover the front of the clipboard with scrapbook paper. I have found the easiest way to do this is to cut a small piece of paper (about 4 inches long and 3 inches wide) and start with the top around the clip. Position the paper and press hard and the edges of the clipboard will leave an indentation. This lets you know where to cut.
Once you have one corner cut, use it as a stencil to create the other side. If you plan on ever covering any more clipboards, I highly recommend making an extra ‘template’ to keep on hand.
Paint around the edges of the front of the clipboard. While the paint is still wet you can open the clip and slide a piece of scrapbook paper as high as it will go. The paint will again, outline the areas letting you know where to cut. Cut your main piece of paper and use Mod Podge to adhere to the front.
Then add the two top areas with Mod Podge around the clip. While it is drying I put a pair of scissors to keep the clip open so the final pieces wouldn’t accidentally move.
Finish with a strip of paper to cover up any seams.
Fill your box with threads, a mini pair of scissors or include a book on friendship bracelet designs to go with your gift! We found some really fun threads including tye-dye and neons that my girls thought were really fun.

Back to School Rice Krispie Treats

We shared with you so many wonderful and easy Back to School Kid’s Snack Ideas. How about these fun Rice Krispie Treats?! These treats would be perfect to make for the class the first week of school. In true Back to School fashion, they’re decorated with bright primaries and embellished with edible decorations! You could also package them individually and sell at a Bake Sale Fundraiser! Rice Krispie Treats are so easy, your kids will love to help you make them. A quick tip: Put a little butter on your hands before you press them into the pan, they won’t stick to your hands. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

1 cup (2 sticks) butter
Two 10 oz. bags of mini marshmallows
10 cups Rice Krispies cereal
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 cup Wilton red melting chips
1/8 cup Wilton blue melting chips
1/8 cup Wilton green melting chips
1/8 cup Wilton yellow melting chips
Wilton edible Apple decorations
Optional: Wilton edible ABC’s decorations

Directions:

Line a 9×12 pan with foil and spray with Pam. Set aside.
In a large sauce pan, melt butter over low heat.
And marshmallows to the melted butter, stirring constantly.
Once marshmallows are melted, remove from heat and stir in the cereal and salt until well-coated.
Using a rubber spatula, transfer the Rice Krispies to prepared pan and press down firmly and evenly.
Cool completely in pan.
With a metal spatula, loosen the Rice Krispies from the pan. Invert the Rice Krispies onto a plate.
Let cool completely before cutting into 8-12 even pieces.
Microwave 1/8 cup of Wilton red chocolate melts for 30 seconds. Stir until completely melted. Drizzle over three Rice Krispies bars.
Microwave 1/8 cup of Wilton blue chocolate melts for 30 seconds. Stir until completely melted. Drizzle over three Rice Krispies bars.
Microwave 1/8 cup of Wilton green chocolate melts for 30 seconds. Stir until completely melted. Drizzle over three Rice Krispies bars.
Microwave 1/8 cup of Wilton yellow chocolate melts for 30 seconds. Stir until completely melted. Drizzle over three Rice Krispies bars.
Before icing dries, firmly apply Wilton edible Apple decorations and ABC’s to each Rice Krispies bar.

Can you believe we are already talking back to school?! Beyond supplies and everything else that comes with starting school again, getting teachers a little treat to begin the school year is a great idea! Why not make them something? Any teacher would love these adorable cupcakes made to look like an apple! Make a tray of them and put in the Teacher’s Lunchroom or Main Office. They’re so easy to make and will be a huge hit! My kids would agree that a few set aside to enjoy after school on the first day is a good idea too!

Cake Ingredients:

1 box White Cake Mix + box ingredients
Red Cupcake Liners

Frosting Ingredients:

1 cup softened Butter
3 cup Powdered Sugar
3 tbsp Milk
1 tsp Vanilla
Red Food Coloring
Red Sparkling Sugar
12 Tootsie Roll Midgies
Green Fruit Rollups or Green M&Ms

Directions:

Preheat oven and line muffin tins with paper liners.
Prepare batter according to box directions.
Fill liners 2/3 full and bake according to box directions for cupcakes.
Allow to cool completely.
Whip butter and vanilla for until fluffy.
Gradually add powdered sugar.
Add milk until you reach desired consistency.
Add food coloring to acheive pink/red color.
Frost each cupcake.
Sprinkle with red sparkling sugar.
Insert Tootsie Roll in middle to make stem.
If using Rollups, cut 2 leaves for each cupcake and put in place or if using M&Ms, place 2 M&Ms to represent leaves.

Ready for back to school? The kids will be excited and then exhausted! Give them a creative fun after school snack that will give them a pep in their step when they get home and gear them up for … homework time!

What are some good snacks for school?

The best snacks for school are healthy and build brain power instead of providing sugar that will later drop in the day and create an afternoon crash. It’s important to provide you child with protein, a small amount of carbohydrates and healthy sugars. You also want to be aware of allergies in the classroom and know the rules for sending in such snacks such a peanuts and dairy allergies.

Easy Marshmallow JELL-O Pinwheels

Get ready to have fun with this Kids Food Craft! These Jell-O Pinwheels are the perfect treat for a birthday party, playdate and holidays. It’s an easy kitchen activity for the kids to help with. Not only could you make them in custom colors to match any theme but, how cute would they be as ‘Monster Tongues’ for a Monster party!! Mix marshmallows and chilled gelatin for these fun wiggly pinwheels. 3 ingredients is all you need to make a tray full. A tray of red and green Jell-O pinwheels will be lovely for Christmas!

Ingredients:

3 oz package Flavored Gelatin
1/2 cup Water
1 1/2 cup Mini Marshmallows

Directions:

Lightly spray 8″ square glass baking dish with non-stick spray. Wipe off excess.
Whisk together water and gelatin in microwave safe bowl.
Microwave for 1 minute.
Whisk contents well, add marshmallows and stir.
Microwave for 30 seconds and stir until marshmallows are dissolved. If they do not completely dissolve microwave another 15 seconds.
Pour contents into prepared dish and refrigerate for 30-45 minutes.
Use a butter knife to loosen around edges. Roll up and place seam side down on cutting board.
Use dental floss or twine to cut into slices by sliding under roll, wrapping over top and pulling ends.
Refrigerate slices until ready to serve.
