huge list of fun candy dice games for kids

Using dice as a way to decide the fate of an activity or game never gets dull. In fact, rolling the dice is a simple way for kids and adults can feel as though they’re part of a game without the worry of having too much pressure at the same time.

Because let’s be honest. Sometimes, it’s really hard to decide what candy to choose or what gift to pick. Those decisions can make anyone feel like they’re frozen without an option, and this is where the dice come into play! (literally!)

Forget popular games or board games like Yahtzee, Farkle, and Bunco. The next time that there is a fun holiday or event coming up where there will be choices to be made, make a few dice cookies, and don’t forget to include these dice game printables and a set of dice. The printables will give the answers to the rolls of the dice, making it a great option for everyone to participate in.

Dice Game Rules

Candy dice game rules are simple and easy to follow. In fact, the dice game candy rules are printed and ready to use. Each person gets to take a turn rolling the dice, and whatever number is shown on that dice is matched with the number on the printable.

The only control that the person has is that they get to toss or roll the dice. After that, it’s all in how the dice land! In the gift exchanges, if you roll snake eyes with the dice, then you have to do what the dice game tells you to do for rolling that number. No ifs, and, or butts!

For each dice roll it might mean that you get candy, it could mean that you give candy, or it could mean that you are skipped and have to watch everyone else having and enjoying some of their candy. It’s all in the fun of the game! (and all are in good spirits as well because every roll will have everyone guessing and waiting as to what is going to happen)

Printable Dice Game Options

Supplies

The best part about using dice game printables is that you just need a few simple supplies to get started!

  • Dice
  • Paper
  • Printer
  • Downloaded Dice Game Printables

You can easily start with one and then get the rest as the year goes along. I recommend printing on cardstock and then laminating the printable game. This makes it easier to use over and over again!

How do I play dice games?

Each of the candy dice game PDFs includes instructions. However, the concept is easy in this simple game. Add a bunch of candy (or candy bars) to the center of the table. Roll the dice. Look at your number. Follow the instructions.

Sample instructions include…

  • Take one candy
  • Put one candy back
  • Give any player one candy
  • Skip your turn
  • Take one candy from any player
  • Everyone takes one candy

Players will pull from the pile of candy (or each other) until they get the specific number of candies they need to win.

Can I play dice games without dice?

You might be wondering if can you play these dice games without dice (or a dice cup.) Dice games require some type of numeric roll with a six-sided dice however if you do not have dice, there are ways around this.

It’s very easy to roll dice using a dice app on your phone, by making your own paper dice out of a printable cube template, or by using a virtual dice-rolling website.

What is the order of the game?

On the dice game, the rules are listed. However, you can make it your own. You can decide the order of players in this group game. When playing with younger kids, the first player is usually the youngest. The next player is to their left (in clockwise order) or the next youngest player. Players take turns rolling the die. The object of the game is to collect candy or candy bars. The winner of the game gets the present or the most candy.

How many players are needed for these dice games?

The number of players really doesn’t matter but anything in between 3 to 5 players will work best. If you have more than 5 players, split up players into groups and each group will play their own game. If you play with fewer than 3 players, stealing things like candy from your “play of choice” will be really silly – you keep stealing and exchanging with the same person. It will make the end of the game come really quickly. In this case, just add a number of rounds to keep the game going.

Do I need to keep score in this game?

No piece of paper is needed to track the highest score other than the printable dice games. There is no total score in these popular dice game printables. The winner will either unwrap the present or get ten pieces of candy first.  You can create variations and add up the highest total and award prizes for the most points. Make it your own game and grab a piece of paper as a score sheet if this is the die score is the direction you go. It definitely adds math into the equation (no pun intended) if you are playing math games in the classroom.

Rainy days are for indoor & outdoor fun! These fun rainy day activities embrace the weather and produce laughter and great memories. Stay dry with a list of cozy indoor activities. Alternatively, get wet with fun outdoor games that create a splash. Finally, try something new and print these 17 rainy day games that everyone will love. Embrace the forecast and let the games begin.

fun rainy day games for kids

Let me explain to you the first week of summer 2023. Chances are if you were in the eastern region of the United States you felt some of these pains too. Well for us, it was the acceptance of a pool membership we waited on for 3 years. We got into the pool and we were excited. One visit and then the rain and cooler temps began. Over a week of rain and cooler temps. My 3 sons taking swim lessons in 60-degree temps. This was the middle to end of Juen and I was baffled. Where were the terrible hot days when we complain about the terrible heat but cool off under the aqua water of a pool? Playing pool games and running through the yard like we have no care in the world. This was June of 2023 for us. You too?

Rainy days can be a bummer for those who are used to being outside and enjoying the sunshine. If you find yourself stuck indoors, don’t fret! There are dozens of fun rainy day activities to do indoors (and outdoors) when the weather isn’t cooperating. In fact, rainy days can also be an opportunity for families to spend quality time together. From rainy-day games to movie marathons, there are many ways to keep entertained while staying dry or getting super wet.

One great activity for a rainy day is to break out the indoor games. Whether it’s classic games like Monopoly and Scrabble, or newer games like Minute to Win It and family trivia, there are plenty of options to choose from. Unique group games are a great way to spend quality time with friends and family and can provide hours of entertainment.

Another fun activity to do on a rainy day is to have a movie marathon indoors. This is a great way to catch up on all the movies you’ve been meaning to watch, or to re-watch some of your favorites. Pop some popcorn, grab some blankets, and settle in for a cozy day indoors. With streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, there are endless options for movies and TV shows to choose from. When the weather gets better, you can move your movie viewing to the backyard and check it off your fall or summer bucket list.

Let’s take a look at a sample of creative rainy-day activities indoors and outdoors. This includes everything from hands-on arts and crafts to screen time and movie marathons. In addition, print our Rainy Day Games and get ready to enjoy unique games including one-minute games, relay races, water balloon fights, and more. There are many unique games that I bet you’ve never played before.

Indoor Activities

When the weather outside is dreary and wet, there’s no need to feel down. Rainy days provide the perfect opportunity to explore a different realm of entertainment and fun indoors. Whether you’re seeking relaxation, mental stimulation, or simply a way to pass the time, these indoor endeavors are sure to brighten up even the gloomiest of rainy days.

There are plenty of fun rainy day activities indoors to keep you entertained on a rainy day. Here are some great ideas to try out:

Arts and Crafts

Get creative with some arts and crafts projects. Raid your craft closet and recycling bin and get creative. Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or a beginner, there are many ideas to choose from. Try cardboard cereal box crafts, paper plate crafts, painting rocks, or using these creative ideas with paint strips. You could even try your hand at making some DIY home decor.

Cooking and Baking

Rainy days are the perfect time to get in the kitchen and whip up some delicious treats. Try making some comfort food like soup or chili, or bake some cookies or a cake. Look at what’s in your pantry and list ingredients on AI chat and create a new recipe with what you have on hand. You could even try making these easy chocolate chip cookies with a grocery scavenger hunt.

Movie Marathon

Curl up on the couch with a blanket and pillows and have a movie marathon. Pick a theme or a series of movies to watch, or just choose some of your favorites. For toddlers or younger kids, grab cardboard boxes and use fine motor skills to create cardboard box cars for a fun indoor drive-in movie idea. Don’t forget the popcorn and snacks!

Dance Party

Host a dance party. Create a lively atmosphere by clearing a space in your living room. Connect your favorite playlist or choose a music streaming service that offers upbeat and energetic tracks. Dim the lights (which the clouds have already done for you) or add colorful lighting effects to set the mood. Encouraging everyone to let loose, express themselves, and dance like nobody’s watching.

Board Games and Puzzles

Gather some friends or family members and play some board games or puzzles. There 100s of options to choose from, whether you prefer classic games like Monopoly or Scrabble, or newer games like Do You Really Know Your Family or Ticket to Ride.

No matter what you choose to do on a rainy day, just remember to have fun and enjoy the cozy indoor atmosphere.

Outdoor Activities

When raindrops patter against the windowpane and gray clouds dominate the sky, it might seem like the perfect excuse to stay indoors and surrender to the cozy comforts of home. However, embracing the elements and seeking outdoor adventures on a rainy day can bring a unique and invigorating experience.

puddle jumping outdoor rainy day game

Despite the wet conditions, there are plenty of fun outdoor games and activities that can be enjoyed in the rain. It’s important to pay attention to the weather and never venture out when it is thundering and lightning (or in the forecast ahead.) Here are a few ideas for making the most of a rainy day.

Puddle Jumping

Puddle jumping is a classic rainy day activity that never gets old. Whether you’re a kid or an adult, there’s something satisfying about stomping through puddles and feeling the water splash up around your feet. Put on waterproof rain boots and raincoats. Find a large puddle and jump. Encourage your kids to see who can make the biggest splash. If there are no large puddles, create your own by using a hose or sprinkler. This day is also a great day to grab mud from the edge of these puddles and make your own mud kitchen using buckets, bowls, kitchen utensils, and sand shovels.

Rain Photography

Rain can create some stunning photo opportunities. The way the light reflects off the water, the way the raindrops cling to leaves and flowers, and the way the world looks through a rain-streaked window can all make for beautiful and unique photos. Create a makeshift cell phone umbrella, grab your camera or phone, and head outside to capture some rainy-day shots. See if you can enjoy a summer selfie scavenger hunt with your camera.

Fishing in the Rain

If you’re an avid fisherman (or even a novice), don’t let a little rain stop you from casting your line. In fact, some fishermen swear that rainy days are the best for catching fish. This is also a great idea for camping in the rain as the rain might limit your activities. Just make sure to dress appropriately for the weather, and bring a waterproof cover for your gear.

Rain Art

Rain can be used as a medium for art. Give kids a bucket of sidewalk chalk and let them draw on the wet pavement. The rain will mix with the chalk and create a unique effect. Alternatively, give them a paintbrush and let them paint on a canvas in the rain. The touch of water will create a beautiful watercolor masterpiece. You can even add a squirt gun to the canvas and do the mixing of water and paints yourself.

Nature Scavenger Hunt

Rainy days are a great time to explore nature. Create a nature scavenger hunt list of items that can be found in the rain, such as snails, worms, and mushrooms. Give kids a bag or bucket to collect their non-living finds. You can also use our outdoor scavenger hunt with adorable rhyming riddles to guide an outdoor adventure at home. Make sure they are wearing appropriate clothing and have rain gear, such as rain boots and jackets.

Remember, just because it’s raining doesn’t mean you have to stay cooped up inside all day. Take the opportunity to venture outside and immerse oneself in the beauty of a rainy day. With a little creativity and preparation or spontaneity and a who-cares attitude, you can have a fun and memorable outdoor experience even on a rainy day.

Now that we’ve discussed creative ideas, get ready to have some fun. Use some of the ideas above or do something awesome and unique. Have put together 17 fun rainy-day activities for indoors and outdoors.

From camping to riding bikes, drawing on the sidewalk with chalk, or even planning a picnic at the park, every day brings about new opportunities for having fun in the summer sun.

The best part about summer is that the days are long and the sun is hot! This gives you hours of outdoor activities and options to do and have fun!

What are fun summer activities for families?

cheap and free summer activities for kids

This printable will give you a ton of fun ideas! I can’t give them all away for you right here, but I’ll happily give you a sneak peek at the list of ideas.

Let’s look at some fun ideas for cheap and free summer activities.

Go fishing

Going fishing includes finding a water spot like a creek, river, bay, or ocean. Make a day of grabbing a pole and visiting the water. You might even be able to eat what you catch!

Have a picnic al fresco

Have a picnic in the early morning or early evening when it isn’t too hot. Watch the sunrise or sunset and enjoy breakfast, drinks, and a yummy treat. You can even visit a hot/cold food bar at your local grocery store and grab various yummy bites to everyone’s liking.

Go on a scavenger hunt

Scavenger hunts are amazing treasure hunts for kids and adults. They include a variety of ideas like outdoor scavenger hunts or indoor scavenger hunts. Also enjoy themed scavenger hunts like summer scavenger hunts, birthday scavenger hunts, or mall scavenger hunts.

Stargaze in your own backyard

The backyard is a great place to create memories of stargazing. Plus at the end of the night, you can open your patio door and sleep in your own bed or night camp in the backyard! Enjoy looking at the nighttime sky and staying up way past your bedtime.

Make and fly a kite

Create a kite challenge. Upscycle things from the recycling bin and craft closet and see if you can come up what a kite that flies. Hit a field or the beach and have a kite challenge to see who can keep their kite up the longest.

Experiment with grilling

Summer is a great time for outdoor grilling recipes. Try different ingredients you might not have in the middle of winter like pineapple, corn, and more! Kids can have fun making their own skewer recipes personalized to their favorite tastes.

Make a fort

We are not talking about tossing a blanket over a chair. Get creative and make an epic blanket fort using blankets, sheets, and chairs. Add Christmas lights and a sleeping bag and camp out in your DIY tent in the living room.

Make an outdoor obstacle course

Summer games are so fun. Obscales courses evoke creative juices to come up with fun challenges. You can add this obstacle course to your list of backyard games for groups.

Host a talent show

Do you have a few clowns, I mean children with amazing talent?  Host your very own neighborhood talent show. Pop popcorn, pass out snacks, and drink yummy lemonade.

Make paper bag puppets

Raid your craft supplies and get creative. Watch a fun paper bag puppets YouTube video and see if you can come up with creative paper bag puppet ideas.

Put on a fashion show

How many Halloween costumes do you own? Pull out those dress-up items this summer and make a fun fashion show.

Play flashlight tag

This is such a fun activity – when the sun goes down, head outside and play flashlight tag. This outdoor nighttime game is super fun with the immediate family or as a large outdoor group game.

Try new pool games

The pool is one of the best places to cool over during summer. Invite some friends over and quit the routine Marco Polo game. Instead all some fun pool party games for adults, teens, and kids (that are good swimmers.) They are silly and fresh and the kids will love them.

Have a sleepover

Sleepovers are great for pillow fights, late-night movies, and sleeping in (because there isn’t anything on the schedule to wake you!) Play truth or dare or sleepover games for the girls. It will be a great night!

Host a potluck

It takes a little work but is worth it if you can spread out the tasks. Host a potluck at your home. When everyone split the effort, these become cheap summer meals for a crowd catering to a bunch of different taste buds. Have left over containers so everyone can take a bit of extra home for lunch the next day. The joy and laughter around the table will be wroth and you will ask “Why don’t we do this more?”

Try New Recipes

Nothing is worse in summer than hearing “What’s for dinner?” Don’t you want to relax too? Make cooking fun and creative by trying new recipes. Some of my favorite cheap summer meals come from Dinnerly. Enjoy cheap summer dinner ideas with new recipes you have not tried before. The kit includes easy recipes and best of all, everything is shipped to your house each week, skip the grocery store.

Board games are fun, but have you tried a few games out of the box and not ordinary? See if you can play all of these 52 deck of standard playing card games or go through the entire family game night bucket list.

A solution to cheap summer vacations are staycations. There is a lot of fun that can be had in your home town. Make your own brochure of places to travel and enjoy a staycation with these ideas. You can also print your own staycation printable kid.

Play balloon tennis

Lots of fun balloon games can be had. Try games like balloon tennis or defy gravity minute to win it games.

Play classic summer games

As a kid, what were some of your favorite activities? Hopstotch on the sidewalk with chalk? Hula hooping – were you the hula hoop queen? What about a bike ride after adding accessories to your bike wheels? Try to go back to some of those 80s summer days with a jump rope, Simon Says, shaving cream, bubbles, and sprinklers, and see if your kids will enjoy the nostalgia.  Give them their own retro summer bucket list.

Take a nap outside

Okay, okay – what’s a nap? I get it. If you don’t nap, take a second to lay under the sun and get some vitamin D.

Have a neighborhood bike parade

Explore a new spot with a bike ride. Get to know neighbors in the hood by taking an early evening bike ride.

Host a summer camp

As you know, summer camps can be costly.  Cheap summer camps can be had in your own backyard. See if a teen might want to host a one-week summer camp at your home for an hour each day. It isn’t too long and gives neighborhood friends a chance to come together plus a teen a fun activity and a bit of spending money.

Make chalk bombs

Have a blast during something ordinary into something fun – like sidewalk chalk. Make your own chalk bombs using an easy recipe on the web.

Have a backyard bonfire

The backyard is a perfect place for a campfire. Try these hot dog campfire recipes and enjoy your very own dinner around the flames. Follow up the hot dogs with these tasty s’mores cones.

Make a bird feeder

Make a pinecone with peanut butter and birdseed. It’s adorable o watch the birds (and squirrels) feast at your very own efforts. Hang it outside your window for fun observations. In addition to your DIY bird feeder, invest in some of these best of the best bird feeders.

Play in the dirt

… or the mud. So much fun can be had outdoors. See if you can use a buy-nothing group and find a no longer loved play kitchen. Turn it into a mud kitchen. You can also paly outdoors in the run with these fun rainy-day activities.

Celebrate half birthdays

Summer birthdays add plenty of adventure and opportunities you might not get with a winter birthday (i.e. a pool party!) Half birthdays are a great way to spread the love, attention, and activities.

Draw and paint

Pull out that inner artist with a bit of craft. Drawing ad painting are activities you can take outdoors to the patio or deck. Print out free coloring pages and watch your art portfolio grow.

Run in the sprinklers

The sprinkles are fun but have you tried the sprinkler under or over a trampoline? There are plenty of ways to create fun water games using the sprinkler, water hose, and water balloons.

Climb a tree

Pull out that inner child and show the kids how you use to find adventure. In the woods or outdoors with friends climbing a tree. See if you can take it a step further and upcycle an old tire into a tire swing.

Go on a photo scavenger hunt

A photo scavenger hunt is an excellent activity for older kids and teens to explore. Get rid of that “I’m bored” statements with cheap summer activities for teens too. It gets them off the screen (well except using their phone to take photos!)

Look for shapes in the clouds

Do you ever appreciate the sky? Grab a cloud viewer and enjoy looking for shapes in the sky. Do this on days with different weather patterns.

Plant a herb garden

What herb do you find yourself buying over and over – basil, cilantro, anything? Make your own herb garden and document the changes with a garden journal.

Wash your car

Grab a few car washing accessories and line up carts in a cul-de-sac on the street. See if the kids can earn a bit of spending money washing cars. It’s a fun summer job for kids and a busy activity on a hot summer day.

Watch the sunset

Go to an open field and bring a few appetizers, sandwiches, and drinks and watch the sunset.  This will be the most beautiful on an evening before the rain its. Pnk at night – sailors delight!

Decorate rocks

Does your town rock? Have fun rock painting and lay your rocks around town on a trail, in a common area, or at the park. See if your rocks are picked up and brought home by someone else.

Volunteer

Pay it forward with random acts of kindness. volunteer is a great family tradition and why not begin over the summer when you have more time in your schedule?

Make homemade ice cream

Ice cream is great. Host an ice cream party, make your own ice cream, and add fun toppings and tasty cones.

Host an outdoor movie night

To your bucket list of outdoor summer activities, hang a white sheet on the wall, grab a projector, and host an outdoor movie night. This can be accomplished for a Netflix and chill family movie night or a neighborhood gathering with friends.

Read together

Whether you have summer reading programs or not, visit your local library and stock up on some fun reads. Make a summer reading bucket list with summer-themed books for kids. Try reading in different places like under a table, on a hammock, by a creek, etc.

Go Bowling

Bowling can get expensive. Fill up 2-L bottles with water and glow-in-the-dark sticks and have fun with outdoor bowling. If your crew finds this exciting, enjoy more glow-in-the-dark games and entertainment you can enjoy the entire summertime.

Plan a movie night

Movie nights are great. Make every Friday night a movie night and see if you can go through a series of movies. For example all of the toy story movies for a month long, on Friday nights. My family has been working their way through the entire Marvel series for 6 months! (we have skipped a few Friday nights!)

Once everyone realizes all the summer freebies, they’ll love picking and choosing what to do each and every day! The best part is that you can do everyone on the list, or use it as a way to think tank of new ideas, too.

Use this as a boost to your family bucket list and add as many other freebies as you can!

How can I have a good summer without money?

This printable is the way! Just because you feel like all the fun things cost money doesn’t make it true. The moment that you stop and look around, you’ll see so many ways to have fun without spending money.

In fact, you can even make it sort of a challenge where you try not to spend money during a certain time of the summer. Think of it like a no-spend summer challenge – and see how far you can go!

low-cost super mario party ideas DIY

It’s-a Mario party! The beloved video game character has become a favorite for kids for decades now, and it makes the perfect birthday party theme for a wide variety of ages. Whether your child is a preschooler or a preteen, a Mario birthday party will be a total hit. Need some inspiration for party décor, cake ideas, activities for the kids, or party favors? We’ve got you covered with all that and more. From pixelated Mario cakes to chocolate bars that look like Nintendo controllers, you’ll find everything you need to plan the perfect party for your Mario fan.

Mario Party Cake Ideas

For those who want to DIY the birthday cake, here are several simple options to get those creative juices flowing. One tip is to not make the cake and buy a cake from your local grocery store that is not iced. You can do the rest of the work by adding fun Super Mario-themed cake decorations to make a personalized touch for your son or daughter.

Make a pixelated Mario cake (like in the OG game) by using M&Ms and peanut butter chips. It’s such a simple idea that you can do even if you’re not great at cake decorating. The fluffy cloud on the blue and green background is made with dollops of white frosting, but you could also use whipped cream or mini marshmallows to make a cloud. | 4 Sons R Us

super cute pond nature journal for kid printable worksheets

Nature journaling is a fun outdoor activity for families. There are many benefits of nature and journaling is the perfect way to get fresh air, explore your surroundings, or look at the living world differently. Nature journaling can be done with kids, adults, friends, and family. Explore ponds, creeks, rivers, fields, trails, mountains, and more.

Today we will look at what is nature journal, how to create your own nature journal, and our fun pond life journal for young kids.

What is Nature Journaling?

In the same way that one records their thoughts and feelings, nature journaling can be done in parallel. Nature journaling is simply writing down one’s experiences and illustrations in response to the natural world. It’s a relaxing outdoor activity not only for adults but for children too. This fun outdoor activity connects the writer with the great outdoors and living world. Nature journals can be self lead through creative and free thought. Alternatively, nature journaling can be directed using nature observation worksheets or fun outdoor scavenger hunt printables.

How to Start a Nature Journal

To start a nature journal, grab paper and a pencil. That’s it. Free form is a great way to start writing and illustrating the observations you see in our natural world. Keep your paper together in a binder, folder, or notebook to create an exploration journal. A journal can be done over a short period of time like during a day or weekend. Nature journaling can also be done over a long series of time creating a lifelong diary or nature logbook.

How does an observation journal work?

The fun part about having a journal full of observations is that everyone’s will be different. The goal of nature journaling is broad. Journal entries can record changes in animal tracks, sketches of the outdoor environment, or even fictional stories about the environment one’s in.

kids exploring a pond

If freeform is less your jam, we have something fun for you. Learn about our pond life explorer nature journal for young kids. This printable journal set can be used as pondlife activities for preschoolers and a list of their discoveries. Alternatively, take it as part of an outdoor family hike and create your very own exploration nature journal for the family. All the prompts are right there, just waiting to be completed!

Let’s take a look!

Pond Life Activities Printable

I don’t know how often we’ve looked at a pond and just kept walking. But when you take the time to slow down and look at all the beauty, there are so many things to see! In this pond life science activities printable set, experience nature by creating your own pond-life nature journal observations.

The fun part about searching and looking for things related to a pond is that everyone gets to be a part of the fun. We’ve used this activity during sleepovers, campouts, hikes, and even just a fun family day where we put the screens down, and spent time together, face to face.

Included in this pond printable activity:

  • Pond Explorer Cover Page
  • Pond Observations Journal
  • Pond Explorer Reflection Questions
  • Pond Explorer Nature Scavenger Hunt List (written)
  • Pond Explorer Outdoor Scavenger Hunt List (with photo prompts)

For many of these natural journaling printables, print as many as you need to make multiple observations. There are prompts to help everyone know what to write or draw, but after that, it’s how they see and perceive it. An observation journal is an easy way to slow down and enjoy the time.

Make sure to grab this nature journal for kids! It has two outdoor scavenger hunts plus nature journal ideas! It’s great for preschoolers, young readers, and early learners!

Nature Observation Worksheets

printable natural journaling for kids at the pond

First, see these nature observation journal prompts. Write the date,t time, weather conditions, location, and season. Draw different things you see on your adventure. Make a checklist of fun things you found and keep fun journal notes.

You can also make pond observations with a fun animal and plant journal. Answer nature journal questions that lead to observations about your pond including …

  • What did you learn about your visit to the pond?
  • What would you like to learn about the pond?
  • What can you do to improve pond life and pond ecosystems?

Nature Scavenger Hunts

printable nature scavenger hunt ideas for kids at the pond

Kids love outdoor exploration through a nature scavenger hunt. The pond life activities worksheet includes two types of pond outdoor scavenger hunts including a Pond Scavenger Hunt for Nature and a Pond Scavenger Hunt with Photos.

Find some of the following things at the pond…

  • Duck
  • Frog
  • Lily Pad
  • Dragonflies
  • Birds
  • Insects

For literacy activities, the scavenger hunt with words is meant for emergent readers and older kids who can read. The scavenger hunt with pictures is meant for young kids who did visual images of pond items they can look at and find on their own.  Pair up older explorers and younger kids and do both!

Let each child create a check or circle over their items found so little learners can work on their fine motor skills during the small pond theme activities.

More Ideas for Nature Journaling at the Pond

Don’t forget to change it up to work for your needs!  Make this printable nature journal for kids your own! You can use it just like it is or change it to something new.

Some fun ideas to personalize this pond life nature journal includes…

Have a fun prize

Don’t forget the prize and make it a friendly competition. It’s always fun to motivate people with a prize! If you can think of fun pond prizes, that is even better. A small prize would be gummy worms (to be like fishing worms!) and a larger prize could even be a fishing pole! Hit the dollar store to see what you can find.

Keep track as you go

If you want to make a point system, adding a counting element is a fun way. Have everyone count how many frogs they find, count the lilypads, and more! This turns the fun into a math activity. I think that we ended up counting 15 frogs and over 30 lilypads on our outdoor pond adventure. We all had a blast using this as our basis! Back-to-back black-tie weddings caused me to take a closer look at one time rentals vs buying discounted designer apparel. Take a look at Rent the Runway, where to buy designer brands for less, and rental clothing competitors. Get the answer to “Is Rent the Runway Worth It?”

is rent the runway membership worth it

Have you tried Rent the Runway? I first tried RTR 6 years ago when I was pregnant with twins – only I didn’t realize I was pregnant and I had to put on two pairs of Spanx to get in the dress. While this blog post has nothing about being the mother of twins or wearing twin Spanx (pun intended), it does provide a little insight on how to find the perfect size dress (or clothing item) for your special occasion.

In addition to finding the perfect dress for an occasion, there are other options to find more than the perfect dress. While you might have tried renting a dress online before, you might not be aware of a monthly clothing rental service too. With a Rent the Runway Membership, you can find outfits for any occasion including weddings, work, weekends, travel, and more. If revamping your closet for a month isn’t your cup of tea, give Rent the Runway a short try and rent designer clothing for a few short days during a special occasion.

How does Rent the Runway Work?

Rent the Runway is a rental clothing company that allows you to try on and wear designer brands. The online boutique includes stylish clothing connecting consumers to high-end top brands. Their business model focuses on helping women to stay up-to-date with constantly evolving fashion trends — without breaking the bank or repeating their outfits.

When renting clothing, your rental window can be as short as 4 days or as long as a 30-days. The online designer store includes many popular brands including Tory Burch, Farm Rio, LoveShackFancy, Mac Duggal, and more. Rent the Runway clothing is sent straight from the warehouse to your home and includes a pre-affixed return package for an easy-peasy designer rental service experience.

How to find your perfect size

how to find the right sizing on rent the runway with reivews

One thing I love about Rent the Runway is the sizing.  I can (humbly) enter my weight, height, and typical size and compare myself to others. This gives me a review and photos of how the dress looked on them. I can see the shape and height of other women and know how something might fit me.

As we all know, clothing size can vary greatly by designer and region. For example, UK fits much differently than US versions. To find your perfect size, when you find the ideal dress read the Rent the Runway reviews. Many individuals share their experiences with their rented dresses (items of clothing)  – you might even find a few of my reviews online.

Once you find the item you want, click the reviews or customer images. Sort the feedback by sizing that matches yours. Simply pay attention to your height, weight (be honest), and chest size. Then find similar women who have rented the same dress you are looking at. This quickly helps you realize if the item is true to size, runs small, or runs large.

This is my favorite thing about this website.  Shopping like this cannot be done on T.J.Maxx, Nordstrom, Dillards, and other online dress stores I typically use first.

rent the runway wedding guest dress

Take a look at my personal Rent the Runway sizing experience. By paying attention to the sizing, I knew I had to rent a size 14 Borgo de Nor Lemonade Margarita Maxi dress for a wedding rehearsal. M typical size is 6/8. In fact, the same designer has another dress that doesn’t run this large and it would have been better for me to go with a 6/8 – talk about confusion. This is why Rent the Runway reviews for each item are important.

Now that you know you have the ability to find the perfect size brand name clothing, let’s talk about renting brand-to-consumer items. To learn more about the rental process, take look at one-time rentals and memberships.

Rent the Runway One Time Rental

Rent the runway has short window items. This can be as short as 4 days or as long as 8 days. With a one-time rental, you can select a delivery date 1-2 days before your plans. With one-time rentals, to help make sure you get an outfit that fits, a free backup size is included in every order. Once you have chosen your items, the Rent the Runway rental bag will arrive at your door. No need to leave your house (except for your special event.)

rent the runway delivery to your home

Consider short-term clothing rentals for special occasions including:

  • Rent the Runway prom dresses
  • Rent the Runway cocktail dresses
  • Rent the Runway wedding guest
  • Rent the Runway homecoming dresses

For these special occasions, individuals often want a one-time use. In this case,  buying a dress can often be a waste of money. Plus designer clothing vs warehouse clothing is quite different. Either you spend a little and the item doesn’t fit great. Or you spend a lot for a three-hour event.

Rent the Runway Tip: If you have your eye on a specific, must-have dress for a one-time occasion, go with the one-time rental. You can schedule the date of your rental and ensure you have the perfect dress during this open window of time.

Rent the Runway Membership

Once you’ve chosen to rent designer clothing, it’s important to discover how you can rent top brands for less.

Do you need clothing for work? Do you have a series of events coming up? Do you want to treat yourself? Are you feeling like you deserve a closet overhaul but lack the budget… if you answered yes to any of these, then try Rent the Runway subscription service.

The Rent the Runway monthly clothing membership allows you to hang on to five items at a time. There are three membership plans allowing you to keep all five items for one month or get up to 3 free shipments a month and up to 15 brand-to-consumer items a month.

cost of rent the runway membership

RTR makes this pretty easy with three main subscription plans.

Subscription Plan 1

  • 5 items a month
  • 1 shipment a month
  • Rent items up to $350 MSRP
  • $94/month

Subscription Plan 2

  • 10 items a month
  • 2 shipments a month
  • Rent items up to $3000 MSRP
  • $144/month

Subscription Plan 3

  • 15 items a month
  • 3 shipments a month
  • Rent items up to $3000 MSRP
  • $193/month

Subscription plans include all the popular designers’ brand names you get from the one-time rental but they give you more of unlimited access to your look. Grab not only designer gowns but the option of jewelry, handbags, coats, accessories, or even more clothing items to complete the look.

Runway customers can rent items for as long as they’d like during their ongoing plan and have the option to purchase any pieces they love at a discounted price.

Returns

how to return rent the runway

When your rental period is up, return your items using the included prepaid UPS shipping label. With easy Rent the Runway returns, simply return the item to a UPS location with a prefixed label and packaging. You can also schedule a UPS pick-up. Easy peasy, return it immediately. They will do the cleaning.

Cancel

It’s really easy to discontinue and you can cancel Rent the Runway at any time. When you cancel the service, you still can keep your clothing items until the end of your subscription period.

how to contact rent the runway for problem or cancel membership

A Rent the Runway phone number is not necessary. You can easily cancel online within the backend of your account. During my subscription period, I found the chat feature to be very helpful. This is a real person, not a robot. You can do this by going down to Contact Us at the bottom of the www.RenttheRunway.com page. You will get connected immediately.

Chat is available:

  • Monday – Friday: 9 am – 7:30 pm EDT
  • Saturday & Sunday: 9 am – 5 pm EDT

When canceling Rent the Runway, make sure to return your rented clothing items before your Rent the Runway membership/trial period ends.

Rent the Runway Promo Codes

One thing I love about this website is they don’t hide their discounts. How much does Rent the Runway cost? That will vary on the rental window and value of the clothing item. However, unlike the competition, RTR is pretty blatant about wanting you to save money and see what is available to rent. To find Rent the Runway coupons, scroll down to the bottom of the www.RenttheRunway.com page. Look for current promotions under the get help column.

Find Rent the Runway discount codes for their clothing rental memberships and one-time rentals so you can give them a try.

Rent the Runway Review

I decided to give Rent the Runway Membership a try. I went with the most popular plan, getting up to 10 items a month (It was only 8 rent my runway items when started but soon turned to 10.)

The Backstory

Within two years our family was invited to two destination black-tie weddings. With the first wedding, my husband and I went as well as three (of our five) kids. The receipts on wedding guest attire quickly added up and I looked for any way to save money. I was pleased with my purchases for the first wedding. I did a great job of savings on a Mac Duggal Runway Dress. I found a way I could resell the dress and earn money back.

ieena by mac duggal wedding guest dress black tie

For the second wedding, I began to try the same thing of shopping T.J.Maxx Runway Collection for designer gowns. This wasn’t working. What I purchased wasn’t exactly what I wanted. For me, finding the right dress is a “you know when you know type situation.”  I wasn’t hitting the home run and new buying and returning was going to exhaust my time and quite frankly annoy me, so I began to search other places.

First, I searched for my favorite brand on Google. I knew exactly how Ieena by Mac Duggal fit so guessing which size was best would be easy. As I searched Mac Duggal on sale, Rent the Runway Mac Duggal dresses were coming up quite often. I had an existing RTR account so I began to heart (or save) these dresses.

Then it hit me. In addition to a black-tie wedding guest gown, I also need dresses and clothes for multiple events in the next few weeks. This included my daughter’s high school dance. I could rent both my dress and my daughter’s homecoming dress for a fraction of the price it would cost me to buy. I decided, in this season of activities and events, to give Rent the Runway Membership a try.

Experience

I began looking at the RTR membership prices. I decided with a discount code, the middle plan would be best for me. This gave me up to 8 items a month (now 10) and it allowed me to quickly return that Rent the Runway cocktail dress (for my daughter) that I needed for a mere 24 hours.

I had plenty of items saved so I just thought I would purchase the membership and quickly add these items to my cart. They would be a few days for shipping, it would be easy peasy. I quickly found a Rent the Runway coupon savings me almost $50/month for two months. I would pay about $90/month for two months. I purchased the membership and began the process of adding my items to the “bag.”

It wasn’t that easy!

I was so mad. Seriously, it felt like everything was unavailable. In fact, in a folder of about 100 saved items, I was able to maybe get 5 items. Thank God, I could grab that high school dance dress (did no one else need a Rent the Runway homecoming dress?) This was a $300 SIMKHAI Michelle Velvet Mini dress and I knew my daughter would be excited. Okay, so that was solved but I spent another two hours shopping for myself.

rent the runway homecoming dress for teens

I saw that the rehearsal dinner dress I was eyeing had one available but it was over four sizes too big. However, reading reviews, I realized I would need it big because it ran small. I decided, even though the wedding is six weeks away, I might need to add this dress to my bag now. In this two-hour online shopping experience, I realized it was going to be hard to quickly grab my favorites. I was initially frustrated as I had to come up with a bunch of new likes. However, after getting started with a new folder of likes it became less hard and more fun as I ran through an index of all my upcoming events.

Since I needed the cocktail dress for my teen right away, I quickly added a few other cold-weather designer-brand items to the cart for a trip I was taking to New York City. While they didn’t excite me at first, I grew to love them. They actually gave me a few fun brands to wear while I waited for my ideal black-die wedding guest dress to become available.  I would pay attention to my likes to see if any of my favorite dresses popped up as available.

While I used my first (of four) orders, a Mac Duggal gown became available. I am obsessed with Mac Duggal dresses and pretty much knew my size, so I quickly added it to my next order. This dress arrived maybe a week after I used the service and I held on to the dress for five weeks in anticipation of the wedding. I feared returning the dress and it no longer being available. So once I returned my New York Items and my high schooler’s dance dress, I grab the MD gown.

I now had two dresses that I held on to and I began to switch out other items. Cold winter items turned into a few fun spring dresses as the weather warmed. Once I learned to broaden my likes, I quickly found I loved the service. I loved that I got to wear dresses that were tailored, cost a lot of money, and had amazing fabric. I was saving money instead of buying new pieces for one-time use.

The wedding rehearsal dress and wedding gown worked out perfectly. I had plenty of fun things to wear in between trading one brand-name item for another.

What I Rented

cute rent the runway caftan dress review

Want to try what I tried? Here is the full list of items I rented while on the membership program.

  • Borgo de Nor Lemonade Margarita Maxi Dress – Rehearsal dinner, runs small
  • SIMKHAI Michelle Velvet Mini Dress – Homecoming dress, true to Size
  • Peter Som Collective Ruffle Shoulder Sweater – NYC vacation plus day to day
  • BLANKNYC Safari Cheetah Duster – NYC vacation, church event plus day to day
  • Benjamin Benmoyal Floral Long Caftan – True to size, adorable. This was adorable (pictured above) I would buy it if it wasn’t $590.
  • Trina Turk Yucca Floral Dress – I loved this. Wore it to church. True to size. Bright colors.
  • Lauren Ralph Lauren Floral Tie Waist Shirtdress – So cute, wanted to hit Nantucket but wore it to church instead.
  • Rebecca Taylor Camel Rose Plaid Blazer – Adorable. True to size. Dressed up with a dress and own with jeans.
  • J.Crew Block Print Coral Dress – Adorable. Wore on a cool weekend with a cardigan.
  • 7 For All Mankind Stripe Puff Shoulder Sweater –  I wanted to buy this, so cute. True to size.
  • Ieena for Mac Duggal Tie Back Floral Gown – I love it. True to size. Beautiful and sexy for a black tie wedding (but just enough.)
  • Tanya Taylor Cynthia Dress – Didn’t get to wear. cute. I thought it ran bigger.
  • Roksanda Anaisa Maxi Dress – Ran Huge (with a capital H.) Didn’t get a chance to wear it. Saw some wear in the collar on this piece.

Cleaning

Knowing I didn’t have to worry about the cleaning was a huge relief. When my daughter went to her school dance, I reminded my sweet girl over and over how expensive a dress she was wearing and to take incredible care of it.

Well, she’s 14 and she had an unavoidable stain at the end of the night. I began to panic thinking of how I was going to fix this stain. You know what… I sent it back when the stain and there was no charge for the dress for the returning cleaning. I read many reviews of Rent the Runway dry cleaning and the incredible fairy magic they have. Instead of trying to take care of it myself, I let them do their job at no added expense or charge. I was so relieved.

worn clothing from rent the runway

I realized that cleaning after each use does wear on some of the dresses. This was the case for the Roksanda Anaisa Maxi Dress. while I didn’t get a chance to wear it, I noticed the collar was losing a bit of coloring from use. This is a $1,300 dress so I would expect better r- would you eve imagine a $1,300 dress in your closet, by the way?

Summary

In summary, I found many of the most popular Rent the Runway Gowns are hard to acquire within the RTR membership. However, there are plenty of other items to replace that favorite. Many are just as cute. If you have your eye on that one item, the membership does give you a membership perk – take an extra 25% off all reserved rentals if you want to reserve a dress for a 4 to 8-day window. This Rent the Runway savings applies automatically at checkout.

If you have some time to watch availability, then you are good to go. For example, if you have a wedding in March, start the service in February with at least two return windows. This will let you request the dress as soon as one of your favorites becomes available. Or, you can also have a large selection of dresses instead of your eye on one item. This is what happened at my black-tie wedding. The dress wasn’t my first choice but it worked out in the end and I am really pleased with my choice. A slit down my chest was quite daring but since I was limited on favorites, I took the plunge and loved going outside of my comfort zone on a wedding destination vacation with just my husband and me.

So is it worth it?

is rent the runway worth it review summary

When I first tried the designer rental subscription, I told myself “I will never do this again” because I could not get my #1 dress choice. This changed quickly as I realized how many other items they had and I began to open my eyes to so many pretty brands. I began to get so many compliments on the items I was wearing. In fact, not one item did I wear and not get a verbal like. I loved the items so much and so did others.

I wanted to keep the service for longer than I did. I kept the service for two months. The reason I stopped was I am a sweatshirt and sweatpants type of girl. If I needed everyday workwear or attended fancy occasions often, I would absolutely continue this service. In fact, the next time my daughter has a dance, I would love to try the service another month and have fun with a few cute items (In honor of her special occasion, of course!)

Next time I have a fancy wedding or upcoming event I will (in this order)…

1.) Find the best solution by buying from  T.J.Maxx Runway and reselling on Poshmark & thredUP when done. Why rent, when you can own is my initial thought.

However, if I can’t find my ideal dress at a discount or need a lot of outfits, I will…

2.) Get a two-month period of renting designer clothing weeks in advance.

If I don’t need a lot of clothing…

3.) I will do a one-time 4-day rental with a free UPS return.

Make Rent the Runway your own. All of these options are ideal based on your own needs.  Ask yourself…

  • Do you need something immediately?
  • Do you have time to wait for that ideal item to become available?
  • Do you need more than one item?
  • Do I want to gift myself a month full of fun clothing?

Seriously, Rent the Runway rentals have been worth it, and such a lovely way to try out new brands without breaking the bank.

Rent the Runway locations

Are you ready to shop Rent the Runway? Can I shop in person if online shopping is intimidating? If you live in a larger city, you used to be able to shop and return in person at one of the Rent the Runway luxury stores. However, Covid crushed this realization.

Popular places you could shop/return designer fashion brands were…

  • Rent the Runway Flagship Store NYC

  • Rent the Runway Dallas

  • Rent the Runway Chicago

  • Rent the Runway Bridgeton

  • Rent the Runway Miami

  • Rent the Runway Nashville

  • Rent the runway Greenwich

  • Rent the Runway Austin

  • Rent the Runway DC

However, all RTR locations are permanently closed. This was disappointing for many but exciting for others who took advance of the Rent the Runway sample sale.

Since closing all of its flagship locations, RTR returned its focus to investments in digital. This made it fair for everyone as the time, hours, and inventory are equally shared.  It also made renting the runway returns a uniform process for all. Returning from multiple US locations to digital stores only created an equal playing shopping field for all. Everyone can shop pre-loved designer clothing with their online Rent the Runway Brand Consignment shop.

Rent the Runway on Amazon

One benefit of digital is RTR sample sales were no longer. Instead, you don’t have to live in a major city with a flagship store. Now everyone has access to Rent the Runway Clearance Sale and the “buy now” button (for those that don’t want to rent.)

how to buy rent the runway on amazon

In addition to buying used brand-name clothing off the Rent the Runway website, you can also buy from Rent the Runway when you shop on Amazon for Rent the Runway items. The Amazon Fashion resale option gives you the option to buy things from your favorite brands on one of your favorite websites.

Give Rent the Runway a try or try the competition. Questions about Rent the Runway vs. …? well Rent the Runway’s competitors include Nuuly, Armoire, and Fashion Pass. Let us know your experience and favorite place to rent designer clothing.  I researched all three places before beginning with RTR. I still find the original place to be the best. RentTheRunway appears to be much more transparent than the places that opened after the original store.

So…. Is Rent The Runway Worth It? You let me know! I have found the clothes were fun and covered many of my event needs.
