Turkey Cheese Sticks – Kids Food Craft

We had so much fun with the Fall Ice Cream Cone Teepees and our Thanksgiving Kids Food Crafts, that we wanted to do a non “food” item for schools that do not allow food brought in from the outside that isn’t prepackaged. This is another excellent fall idea for a classroom or large group. It is so easy and  the kids will love this fall food craft.

Supplies:

  • Handi Snacks Premium
  • Orange and Red Card Stock
  • Medium and Small Plastic Googly Eyes
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue/Hot Glue Gun

Directions:

  1. Cut your orange paper into the following: 6 small diamonds for the turkey beaks, 12 small turkey legs.
  2. Cut your red paper into the following: 6 wattles (the red thing that hangs from a turkeys chin).
  3. Hot glue the wattle onto the backside of the cheese compartment.
  4. Hot glue one small and one medium eye onto the back top edge above the cheese compartment.
  5. Now fold your diamond in half and hot glue right on top of the wattle.
  6. Then hot glue the paper legs onto the back of the cracker compartment.

Halloween OREO Bat Truffles

How fun are these OREO Bat Truffles? I can’t wait to have a tray full of these bats, ready to take flight into the kiddos Trick-or-Treat bags. Why not wrap them up in a cellophane bag to take to the classroom party. What a fun treat! They are much easier than you think as they come with a FREE Bat Wing Stencil to outline your bat wings just right! Do you have crafty kids? They would go batty to help you make these and get into the spooky spirit!

Ingredients:

  • 1 8 oz. package of cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1 package of OREOs
  • Mini chocolate chips
  • 12 oz. Semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Edible eyes

Additional materials: Parchment paper, Ziploc bags, Tape, Scissors and FREE Bat Wing Stencil.

Directions:

  1. Process the OREOs (entire cookie including filling) in a food processor or blender. Pulse until crumbs are formed.
  2. Using a hand-held or stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, beat the Oreo crumbs with cream cheese until combined. The mixture will be thick and sticky.
  3. Using your hands, roll into 20-25 balls. Place balls on a parchment paper lined backing sheet or a silicone mat-lined baking sheet. Freeze the truffles for at least 30 minutes. If they are not cold and solid, the melted chocolate will not coat the balls properly.
  4. While the truffles are freezing, place the Bat Wing Stencil under a piece of parchment paper on a solid surface–taping it down to keep it in place.
  5. Melt ½ cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips as directed on packaging.
  6. Place melted chocolate into a Ziploc bag and use scissors to snip off one corner. Pipe the melted chocolate along the outside of each bat wing outline and completely fill in with chocolate. Place chocolate wings in freezer for 10 minutes to harden.
  7. Once the bat wings have hardened – place edible eyes, mini chocolate chips, frozen Oreo truffles and bat wings in one location, so they are quickly available for the next step.
  8. Melt remaining semi-sweet chocolate chips as directed on packaging.
  9. Working with one truffle at a time, completely coat the outside of each ball. To do this, simply drop each truffle into the chocolate, swirl it around with a fork and then pick it up using the fork’s prongs. Tap the fork on the edge of the bowl to allow the excess coating to drip off, and place on lined baking sheet. Working quickly while the coating is still wet, dip a bat wing interior edge into chocolate and press gently into the side of the truffle until it is secure. Do the same with the second bat wing. Press two eyes into the front of the truffle and two mini chocolate chips onto the top. Repeat this process until all truffles are used.
  10. Refrigerate the truffles for at least 10 minutes so the chocolate sets. Truffles must always be chilled and will stay fresh for up to 5 days in the refrigerator.

Disney Halloween Mickey Ear Witch Hats

Love Disney? Love Halloween? If so, these Mickey Ears Witch Hats are perfect for the Halloween Fanatic! Let your little Mouseketeer help make this special treat. OREO has such a great variety of flavors, you can really mix it up and get creative. So simple to make and yummy to eat! They would be cute for a Mickey themed birthday party too!

Ingredients:

  • OREO Cookies (I used Mint Oreo Thins)
  • M&M’s Candies
  • Hershey’s Chocolate Kisses (I used Dark)
  • Ziploc Sandwich Bag

Directions:

  1. Unwrap two chocolate kisses and place them in a small microwave safe bowl.
  2. Microwave on high for 30 seconds or until just melted enough to be stirred with the tip of a knife.
  3. Turn a sandwich bag inside out over your hand and scoop up the chocolate.
  4. Turn the bag right side in and press the chocolate mixture into one corner of the bag.
  5. With a sharp knife, cut the corner of the sandwich bag off so that you have a tiny hole from which you can pipe the chocolate.
  6. Unwrap a Hershey’s Kiss and lay it on its side on a cutting board or plate.
  7. Place two M&M’s candies on either side of the Hershey’s Kiss to for the ears.
  8. Pipe two small dabs of chocolate in between the Kiss and the M&M’s. The melted chocolate will act like a glue to hold the M&M ears onto the Hershey’s Kiss.
  9. Repeat this process for as many hats as you need.
  10. Place the cutting board or plate into the freezer to set the chocolate.
  11. Once your hat tops have set, pipe a small dab of chocolate onto the top of an OREO cookie.
  12. Affix your hat top onto your hat’s OREO cookie brim.
  13. Repeat until done!

Pumpkin Spiced Pumpkin Seeds

One of the many joys during Fall is carving pumpkins. The best part of carving pumpkins are the seeds! Don’t discard those amazing goodies. They’re super easy to roast up and you can add so many different flavors to them. One of our favorite ways to roast them is with pumpkin spice. All of the warm, comforting flavors of the season in little bites. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup pumpkin seeds, cleaned
  • 2 teaspoons coconut oil
  • 2 teaspoons pumpkin spice (1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, 1/4 teaspoon clove, 1/4 teaspoon ginger, 1/4 teaspoon allspice)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt, optional

Directions:

  1. Set your oven to 400F.
  2. Make sure your seeds are free of any pumpkin bits and are completely dry – patting them down with a paper towel if necessary.
  3. You can add the oil in one of two ways: add the seeds to a bowl and mix them with the oil, or place the seeds directly on a lined baking tray and drizzle with the oil. Either way works great – and the second method saves on dishes!
  4. Sprinkle the pumpkin spice onto the seeds and roast for 5-10 minutes until the seeds take on a golden taupe colour. Stir halfway through to ensure even roasting.
  5. If adding salt, sprinkle it on after you’ve removed the seeds from the oven.

Note: If you’d prefer not to use pumpkin spice, use 2 teaspoons of cinnamon to replace.
