Bring fun and laughter with this Birthday Scavenger Hunt for kids and adults. Create a new family tradition or use at a Scavenger Hunt Birthday Party to collect presents with these 20 Birthday Treasure Hunt clues.

Birthday Scavenger Hunt

We love ideas to twist up the traditional family birthday. By doing something out of the ordinary, you create “special moments” when celebrating the birthday of a loved one. Add birthday breakfasts, flood a bedroom with balloons, or organized a birthday parade! These unique moments, because they are out of the ordinary, create a filed memory in one’s head.

If you’re looking for a creative and fun way to celebrate your child’s birthday, then consider planning a birthday scavenger hunt! It’s a fun twist on traditional gift giving and makes getting birthday presents so exciting.

Scavenger Hunt Birthday Party

Birthday Scavenger Hunt Ideas can be done with family and/or friend. In fact, add this activity to your child’s party for a fun adventure and party game that their guests will always remember. The best part is that your child gets to work with their friends to solve the birthday riddles to find the clues that lead to their gift. Once all the presents are gathered, sit down and have fun opening them with family and friends.

birthday scavenger hunt clue 1

Here’s how the birthday treasure hunt works:

To pull of the best scavenger hunt party idea, you need to do a little prep.

Schedule: Scavenger hunts can be done anytime during the kid’s birthday party, or as a closing activity that will keep all of your guests entertained to the very last minute.

What you need: You’ll need this Birthday Scavenger Hunt pdf, scotch tape, and gifts with clues attached to each.

Set up: Print the pages out on cardstock with a color printer. You’ll also need to cut out the individual scavenger hunt clues and attach them to items in your house that all lead back to where you will hide the birthday gifts. If you have 15 birthday gifts, use 15 clues. If you have more than 20 birthday gifts, have two gifts at one clue setting.

Rules:  To make this work in a party setting, you’ll want to explain the scavenger hunt rules to the kids and remind them that they will work together to find all of the clues in order to find the birthday presents. Working together will be a great way to teach teamwork, problem solving, and planning skills. No to mention, building excitement about the gifts!

Time: Include a time limit for the kids to find the birthday presents so that everyone is kept on their toes. A time limit of 20 or 30 minutes works well, especially for opening presents.

Now it’s time to get started.

Here’s an example of how it’s done:

The first clue is: It is your birthday and we have a lot of clues. The first one is found where you put your shoes. After reading the clue aloud, the kids would think through where they put their shoes and go to that location, such as by the front door.

how to have a birthday scavenger hunt party

Next up: At this point, you might be tempted to stop. Keep going and look in the place where at night you plop. Once again, read this clue aloud and send them on their way to find the next one, in this case their bedroom bed!

Remember to scatter the clues out so that no one finds all of the clues in one location. Kids follow each clue to find a new gift. Travel from the washing machine, to the play room, utensil drawer, bedroom and more.

Each at home scavenger hunt clue should lead to another in a fun, exciting game of ‘hot and cold’ so that the kids are searching all over your home for clues.

At the last clue is a great place to have the goodie bags for all of the kids. When the clue searching is done, the birthday scavenger hunt gets really fun because it’s time for gifts and cake! Have the kids gather around the table and enjoy their hard work with ice cream, treats at each spot, and lots of cake!

There are so many ways to celebrate a child’s birthday, but this Birthday Scavenger Hunt is such a creative and memorable idea that your birthday child will love. Planning this for your kid’s next birthday celebration could be just what you need to make sure everyone has a blast! Have fun and enjoy your child’s big day.

I do not speak of the deathly hallows type of scream, of course, but the squeals and giggles of happy children. If creating a themed event, give everyone a guideline of  Halloween Party Costumes. You can even have a few props and Halloween costumes for those that did not wear one.

If hosting a group of children over a period of time, make sure you have tasty treats and engaging activities like these Halloween Games. A good Halloween party will have full bellies and and party games to create large toothly-fanged grins. Create a spooky atmosphere with a Halloween playlist. For the younger crowd, Kidz Bop Halloween party music is a good start. In addition,

The easiest way to set the theme of a party is through party décor. Halloween Party Decorations and be simplistic, like these Farmhouse Halloween Decor, or can be a tittle spooky like scary Halloween decorations ideas with the most perfect Halloween Lighting Effects. Colored lightning like pinks, oranges, reds, greens and purples can change the entire ambiance of a space.

You spend a lot of time on the party food, so decorations should be easy. My favorite DIY Halloween party decoration is Stretchable Spider Webs. Just the outdoor spider webs alone create an immediate Halloween effect, are budget-friendly and really easy to clean up.

Cheap Halloween party decorations may mean running to a dollar store. These Dollar Tree Halloween Crafts are easy to make and best of all, low-cost.

Decorate with Halloween Letter Boards and change out your family photos’ to Halloween Portraits. Letter boards allow you to express fun messages. Changing out portraits for monsters, witches, and zombies makes it feel more like a haunted house.

Decorating the mantle is the first place to begin. Fireplaces are found in common spaces, so have a beautiful Halloween Mantle will create a perfect backdrop for photos or foreground for a party setting.

If you create party food crafts for kids, many times this will act as a pretty Halloween display. These Halloween Tablescapes create spook and fun party décor.

Halloween Party Themes

There is no reason to create a Halloween Party Theme; Halloween is a theme in and of itself.  However, if you want to create a Halloween themed party, there are many reasons to thick to a theme. This allows people to dress the same, have a similar focus on décor and party food, and of course easily help people get into character.

If you are throwing a 30th birthday, try this Halloween birthday party theme – Death to My Youth Adult Birthday Party Idea. Basically it’s hosting a funeral for your 20s with fun Halloween party décor. Cute for any time of the year, but most fitting for the day of the dead.

A Murder Mystery Party is always fitting for a Halloween themed party. We threw a fun Trailer Park Party, but consider hosting a murder mystery dinner theater which creates a fun adult party idea.

Mix up a potion with a Mad Scientist Themed Halloween Party. This creates many ideas for Halloween party foods and also supplies many activities for kids to do during the gathering. If you love to bake and enjoy mixing drinks, this just might be the perfect opportunity to try out new recipes. Send out invitations shaped like bubbling potions and have lab coats and goggles available for each guest.

Speaking of potions, how about wizards and muggles. A Harry Potter Party is perfect for Halloween. Decorate your home or backyard with Harry-themed objects, like the Sorting Hat, broomsticks, golden Snitches, magic wands and a cauldron.

This is one of the most fun Halloween party ideas. Host a Jack-o’-Lantern Carving Party. Everyone brings their own pumpkin and works on carving together. It’s a fun way to get your pumpkin decorating with the company of others while munching on some pumpkin seeds and tasty treats. Don’t forget these No Carve Pumpkin Ideas and be sure to judge the best jack-o-lantern at the end.

Halloween Party Food

Let’s be truthful, we are all at the party for the food. Enjoy our 31+ Halloween Party Food Ideas  which include adorable food crafts and Halloween recipes for kids and adults alike. Also take a look at these Halloween food ideas for a party, what’s your favorite?

Charcuterie boards are really great for feeding a large group of people. I love how color and the placing of various foods can bring many different images to life. This Halloween Charcuterie Board (Foxes Love Lemons) has our favorite recipe, Mummy Jalapeno Poppers.

Mummy Hot Dogs are perfect for filling the kids. Add candy eyes and serve with or without cheese. They are perfect before you go trick or treating as they fill the belly rather well.

I swear the Halloween recipes somehow get spookier and spookier but somehow remain cute! If you find yourself walking in spider web, try this Spider Web Halloween Dip with Guacamole  (Palatable Pastime). Serve with a bag of chips and perhaps some oven or walking tacos for a perfect Halloween appetizer.

Before the candy hits the belly, make sure to serve the kids a healthy Halloween food. This Orange Jack-o-Lantern Fruit Cup is perfect for little hands. If carving the orange becomes too difficult, just draw the face on with a Sharpie.

When I was growing up, there was no fall festival without a Candy Apple. Take the candy apple to the next step, with something a little more poison. Create this Poisson Apple Recipe.  Serve with our poison apple dip.

When serving drinks, have these Halloween Drink Label Wraps. They turn an ordinary drink into something spook-tacular. These shocktails are perfect for mocktails.

What are some of the best things to do at Hersheypark? From roller coasters to great eats, enjoy Hersheypark hacks and tips plus how to get Hersheypark discount tickets.

Hershey Park Hacks

In the adorable small town of Hershey, PA sits one of the sweetest places on earth – Hersheypark.

As many of you know, Virginia has been our home for over six years. I can’t believe it took us this long to find the place where milk and honey chocolate flow. This past weekend we entered the park’s gates and spent the best weekend enjoying food, rides, entertainment and more.  As a girl born and raised on the outskirts of Orlando, I turned to my husband on the last day of our trip and said, “our kids are not missing out!”

Hersheypark will fill the heart of any theme park lover. Whirl your way into some fun but don’t let it come a chaotic whirlwind. We have you covered with some tips and tricks before your travels.

Get ready to learn about this slice of heaven in the heart of Pennsylvania.

What is there to do at Hersheypark?

I hate to sound cliché, but this question must really be turned around. What is there NOT to do at Hersheypark. From great eats, roller coasters, shows and more, Hersheypark offers entertainment for children of all ages – that includes you mom and dad! Enjoy theme park rides, create your own chocolate, eat some of the best bites and prepar to be amazed as we look at the many things to do in Hershey, PA.

Hershey’s Chocolate World

Looking for something free to do in Hershey, PA? Visit Hersheypark Chocolate World. Located next to the park, unwrap your chocolate cravings with a Chocolate World’s free Hershey’s Chocolate Tour. When visiting Chocolate world, you can also create your own one-of-a-kind candy bar, shop Hershey gifts and souvenirs, or enjoy world-famous milkshakes and bakery treats.

Chocolate World is open year round and located next to Hersheypark. It’s a great way to get a taste (pun intended) of Hershey without entering the park.

Roller Coasters

If you have a thrillist that loves a good roller coaster, there is something for everyone – from toddlers to adults.  Be sure to try Hersheypark’s new ride, Candymonium®. Located at the park entrance, this roller coaster ride is the tallest, fastest, longest, and sweetest coaster in Hersheypark.

Speaking of coasters, it’s important to know how your child measures up. Located in the park is a ride height chart.  For your convenience, each ride also has measuring sticks and lists eligible riders.

Hersheypark Height Chart

Hershey Miniatures: under 36″
Hershey Kisses: 36″ – 42″
Reese’s: 42″ – 48″
Hersheys: 48″ – 54″
Twizzlers: 54″ – 60″
Jolly Rancher:  60″ and taller

To give you a general idea for young children, my 3 year old twins were Hershey Kisses, my 4 (almost 5 year old) was a Reese’s and my preteens and adults were Jolly Ranchers.

You can find a Hershey Park height chart measuring station all around the park. Each ride also has a measuring stick – so no sneaking on rides you are not “allowed” to ride.

As the parent who often had the youngest kids (while the bigger kids experienced the fastest, most exhilarating coasters), I found plenty to do. There was something around these “big kid” coasters that the younger kids could do. From games, to smaller rides, my toddlers did not feel left out at any time.

Hersheypark Rides

hersheypark rides

The park offers man classic amusement park rides including wooden roller coasters, water log rides, tea cups, ferris wheel and a carousel.  For our family, founder’s Way was great for Hershey Miniatures, Hershey Kisses and Reese’s. When exploring outside of this area, the Hersheypark app was great for viewing a park map, looking at ride wait times and getting directions to your next location. Loops, twists, turns, and thrills were found in every directions and something for the entire family and each age group was mostly available throughout the park.

Some of our favorite coasters included…

  • Trailblazer – this was a  family coaster all my kids qualified to ride.
  • Laff Trakk – we could have ridden this one over and over – so fun!
  • Scrambler – the youngers really enjoyed this.
  • Fahrenheit – this was the first huge roller coaster our almost 5 year old could ride and he loved it.
  • Speedway – feel free to give the kids the keys to these classic cars.

Hersheypark Water Park

Ready to cool off? Make a splash at the 11-acre water park inside the park. The The Boardwalk at Hersheypark is included with all summer admission tickets. Water slides, tubes, and pools of fun to cool off from the hot sun. The Boardwalk at Hersheypark.

As a Hersheypark tip, it is good to know that the are lockers around the park if you want to lock up your wet apparel or valuables.

Hersheypark Stadium

For evenings, Hersheypark Stadium provides the entertainment. Experience concerts by the most prominent names in the music industry. Sounds for ages young to old. If you are staying at a Hershey hotel, many shuttles run through the concert hours ensuring you get from your Hershey Entertainment back to your bed safely.

Visit here for a list of artists and Hersheypark event schedule.

Hersheypark Hotels

Hershey hotels come with my nice amenities and perks. First, they offer shuttle service to the park so you can leave your car at the hotel. In addition, enjoy their pools and water activities, a game room, s’mores campfire events, restaurants, and other seasonal activities.

One benefit of staying at a park hotel is getting to the park an hour before it opens. If you area park expert, this is great because you can race to the rides that typically have the longest lines or perhaps just enjoy the park with fewer people.

Where is there to stay at Hershey? Visit the Hotel Hershey, the Hershey Lodge and also the Hersheypark camping resort. If you have a home on wheels or want to experience a bit of cabin life, check out Hersheypark campground.

Hersheypark Halloween

Hersheypark In The Dark takes place three weekends in October. Enjoy a spooktacular-ly good time filled with your favorite rides and coasters, chocolatey trick or treat adventures, wild zoo visits, and festive Hershey Character experiences. It takes a “fall festival” to the next level.

Hersheypark Christmas

Are touring Christmas lights on your winter bucket list? Enjoy more than 5 million lights for the most merry event of the year, Hersheypark Christmas Candylane®! Deck the halls with your favorite rides and coasters, a visit with Santa and his reindeer, festive Hershey Character experiences, and more. This event takes place mid November to early January.
