Have you tried hot chocolate bombs? They are the newest food trend. We couldn’t stop with hot cocoa, we had to make the best coffee bombs too. Mixing chocolate and espresso, these mocha coffee bombs hit the sweet spot.

The Best Coffee Bombs

I remember the first time I was introduced to fusion food. It was the early 2000s and I recall going to a restaurant that mixed all sorts of flavors together. I do not recall the meal, very well, but I do remember the still water was $4 – isn’t that crazy? I also recall that the dessert was a hamburger made with chocolate and a donut. The restaurant didn’t make it long (perhaps because of the expensive water, perhaps because it was a little ahead of it’s time for the area I lived), but my love of fusion was built during that time.

When I think of coffee bombs and hot chocolate bombs, I think of fusion food. It is mixing something creative and unique and creates a beautiful display – sometimes too beautiful to enjoy or eat. Since I love chocolate drinks, but don’t drink hot chocolate enough, I wanted to create my love of chocolate with my love of a need – coffee.

What is a coffee bomb?

To first answer what is a coffee bomb, you must know what is a chocolate bomb? A coffee bomb, similar to a chocolate bomb, is a round hard shelled chocolate ball with instant coffee inside. When added to hot milk it breaks apart and creates a Mocha Coffee. Chocolate bombs and coffee bombs are fun recipes you can make at home that are excellent for gift giving.

Mocha Coffee Bombs

With instant espresso powder and some hot milk, you can create your own chocolate latte bomb in a matter of seconds. The hardest part is the prep but we promise that taste is well worth the effort!

Makes 6 bombs
Prep time: 30 minutes
Setting time: 4 hours

Coffee Bomb Ingredients

1 12-ounce package dark chocolate chips
6 tablespoons instant espresso powder
¼ cup white melting chocolate
6 cups hot milk to make the bombs

In addition to the Mocha Coffee ingredients, you will also need a round silicone mold.

Coffee Bomb Recipe Directions

It is really easy to make Coffee Hot Chocolate Bombs. Follow the following directions to get your started.

First, place one 12-ounce package of dark chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave the dark chocolate chips in 30 second intervals, stirring between each interval, until the chocolate chips are fully melted.

Next, take a spoonful of melted chocolate inside a half circle of the silicone mold. Use the back of the spoon to spread the chocolate up the sides of the rubber mold. Continue this process until all the molds are coated (approximately 12 half circles).

Set the remaining melted chocolate aside for sealing and decorating the bombs.

Allow the chocolate in the molds to set completely, around 2 to 3 hours. You can speed up the process by placing the chocolate in the refrigerator.

When the chocolate is set, remove each of the chocolate pieces from the mold. Add around one tablespoon of instant espresso powder in each piece.

Reheat the dark chocolate in the bowl in 15 second intervals until melted. Pick up an empty chocolate piece and dip the edges into the melted chocolate. Carefully place it on top of a filled piece and lightly press it into place. Using your finger, smooth melted chocolate around the seam. Continue until all the chocolate bombs are sealed.

Melt the white chocolate according to the package instructions, then place the melted white chocolate into piping bags. Lightly drizzle white chocolate over the top of the bombs to decorate.

Allow the chocolate decorations to set before using, around 1 hour.

To make the mocha bombs, place the bomb in the bottom of a mug. Pour one cup of hot milk over the top of the bomb to melt the chocolate. When the chocolate is completely melted, stir to combine.

1 12-ounce package dark chocolate chips
6 tablespoons instant espresso powder

Instructions

Place one 12-ounce package of dark chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave the dark chocolate chips in 30 second intervals, stirring between each interval, until the chocolate chips are fully melted.

Tips for Young Kids: Toddlers and young children do not have to stay up until midnight. You can still reenact a kid-friendly countdown just in a shorter period of time. For example, make the hour change every 10 mintues or 30 minutes based on when you start and want to end. Obviously, they have no idea of the real time. It can still be a memorable day and family tradition with earlier hours.

Charades Cards

New Year Celebrations have to include a memorable game. We created this New Year’s Eve Charades Game. We included 18 charades cards as well as 9 fill in the blank cards. You can print the blank cards as much as you want created as large of a game as you need or want. In your blank cards add either family memories (if playing with your immediate family) or add trending year events (if playing with a larger group of friends.)

How to Play Charades

Charades can be played with any type of word or phrase. There are two sets of rules for charades games. You can play based on points or based on time.

Charades based on points

Split into two teams. On each teams turn, one person acts out a topic for their teammates to guess. They cannot use any words. Use a clock to track the time, giving each person two to three minutes for their turn. If the team guesses the charade in a set amount of time, give the team one point. If they do not guess correctly, they get zero points added to their score. At the end of all the rounds, the team with the most points wins.

Charades based on time

Split into two teams. On each teams turn, one person acts out a topic for their teammates to guess. They cannot use any words. Use a clock to track the time, giving each person two to three minutes for their turn. If the team guesses the charade in a set amount of time, at that time is added to their score. Does Elf on the Shelf travel with you? The answer is yes and no. In the Elf on the Shelf Christmas Tradition. Elf on the Shelf stays home while your son/daughter goes to school or leaves the home for the day. That doesn’t mean that Elf on a Shelf and Santa are not always watching. Part of the Christmas magic is that Elf and Santa can see everything. For example, if your child has trouble at school, the next day the Elf can hold a “Behave at School” Elf on the Shelf Strike Sign! Elf did not travel to school but Elf knew what was going on.

In the yes situation, there are Elf on the Shelf Solutions for when a family is traveling or on vacation. What do I do with Elf on the Shelf on vacation? There are a few solutions. First you can use our Elf on the Shelf postcards. When you travel, Elf can travel too and no be present with your family.

Another idea for taking a family vacation or going somewhere for a long time is using an Elf on the Shelf travel Jar. Put Elf on the Shelf to travel with you. Since elf is not touch, only the jar is touched, no magic is lost. When you get to your destination, take Elf out and perform your regular Elf on the Shelf antics for your stay. Elf can then travel back home (in a jar) the last day of your trip. One alternative is to have Elf in the front dash for When Elf Travels on Vacation. Just make sure he is secure!

What is Elf on the Shelf?

Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition. The tradition has a book and a elf doll. The book is poetic and in rhyme sharing the purpose of the Elf’s visits. The Elf visits each Thanksgiving. He/She goes and returns from the North Pole each evening. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. The Elf has been found in the refrigerator, fishing in the toilet, writing messages on the mirror or hanging from the lights. It is VERY IMPORTANT, the Elf is not touch each evening or his Christmas magic will be lost! Each family is able to name their special elf. The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve. An Elf’s Story can also be found on DVD.
