Hard Boiled Egg Snowman on Frugal Coupon LIving

Boiled Egg Snowmen

Kids love to be in the kitchen creating, learning and having fun! As much as we love making sweet treats with them, sometimes we want a healthier food craft. These Boiled Egg Snowmen aren’t only too cute but, they’re a great source of protein and quick to make. Build your little snowman, wrap an onion scarf around his neck, add peppercorn eyes and buttons, use pretzel sticks for the arms and don’t forget that cute carrot hat and nose. We love these little snowmen and think your little ones will too!

Ingredients:

  • 6 Boiled Jumbo Eggs
  • 6 Boiled Medium Eggs
  • 2 Carrots
  • Peppercorns
  • Pretzel Sticks
  • Green onion stems

Directions:

  1. Slice off a small section from top and bottom of each egg to allow them to stand and stack neatly.
  2. If you are going to serve soon, you can use pretzel sticks to join each piece and they will be completely edible. If they need to sit for a while, the pretzels will become to soggy, so you will have to use wooden skewers.
  3. Even if you are using pretzels, you will need to pierce the egg and carrot before pushing pretzels through.
  4. Push a pretzel stick down into large egg to make body and place smaller egg on top.
  5. Peel carrots.
  6. Slice the thick end of carrot into six 1/8″ slices to use as hat brims.
  7. Slice middle of carrot (or smaller carrot) into six 3/4-1″ slices for top of hat.
  8. Use skewer to “pre-drill” hole in carrots to allow pretzel to connect them with remainder of stick extending below brim.
  9. Push assembled hat down onto head.
  10. Take the small end of a carrot (about 1/2″) and cut lengthwise into six sections to use as noses.
  11. Using a toothpick, pierce “face” egg in the middle and insert the nose.
Pierce for the two eyes and four spots to make a mouth and press in peppercorns.
  12. Pierce the “body” egg three spots to make buttons and press in peppercorns.
  13. Break a pretzel in half and insert a piece in each side of the body to make arms.
  14. You can optionally use green onion stems to make a hat band and scarf.
  15. Split the green tube and open it up.
  16. Gently scrape the blade along the inside of the opened stem to remove stiffness.
  17. Trim the softened piece to make scarf or hatband and wrap in place.

Pumpkin Caramel Reglazed Glazed Donuts Title

Pumpkin Caramel Reglazed Glazed Donuts

It’s fall and for me Autumn means donuts. Donuts with my morning coffee, evening hot chocolate or late night tea.

Today I looked at a brand new box of Krispy Kreme donuts on the counter, and I thought to myself, “Self, let’s try something different!” That something turned out to be cooking up some apples and adding a bit of a pumpkin puree to warm caramel then ladling the whole shebang onto oven warmed glazed donuts and adding a {healthy} dollop of whipped cream.

The results were delicious! Don’t stop there with the sauce! Add it to pancakes or even top ice cream with it! YUM!

Ingredients:

  • 2 glazed donuts, I used Krispy Kreme
  • 1 apple, sliced thinly
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons of pumpkin puree
  • 6 – 8 tablespoons of caramel
  • whip cream

Directions:

  1. In a skillet add butter, apples, sugar and cinnamon, cook on medium to low heat until apples are caramelized. Remove from heat and set aside.
  2. In a sauce pan add caramel and pumpkin puree, over medium heat using a wire whisk stir until caramel and pumpkin puree are incorporated.
  3. Stack donuts and add caramelized apples, add warm pumpkin caramel sauce over donuts and top with whip cream.

Take a look at these Thanksgiving Food Treats featured on Rachel Ray (seen here!)

Turkey Sugar Cookies (Pin it to Pinterest)

This recipe is the most simplistic. Make the attached sugar cookie recipe or grab a pre-made store brand. Use icing as glue and create decadent feathers with candy corn.

Turkey Nutter Butter Cookies (Pin it to Pinterest)

The most popular Thanksgiving Food Craft, the flexibility of this food craft is nice. How much you want to go with this cookie is up to you. You can have a stand up turkey or a lay down turkey instead.  Add left over Halloween candy to spruce up the design or keep it simplistic with icing and candy corn.

Rolo Pilgram Hats (Pin it to Pinterest)

On the show we made these with chocolate peanut butter cups but you can also do with caramel cups. Pick up store bought frosted fudge cookies and glue on the top of the hat to make the perfect little snack for your little Pilgrim.

Chocolate Covered Oreo Turkeys (Pin it to Pinterest)

This turkey craft is likely for experienced and steady of hands baker. Mix colors and create bright feathers on your Oreo Turkey using a pretzel as a template. Again, how little or how much of the activity and design you want to do is up to you.

Awaken your little Jedi’s taste buds with this Droid Quesadilla! Total comfort food from such simple ingredients in the shape of your favorite droid. Imagine the smiles when their lunchbox opens to find this. Add a clever touch to a Star Wars birthday party by making a tray full of these to enjoy! May the force be with you.

Ingredients:

  • 2 flour tortillas (soft taco size)
  • 2 oz softened cream cheese
  • 2 cheddar cheese sandwich slices
  • 1 cup shredded Mexican cheese blend
  • black food coloring

Additionally you will need a  white wine glass, pairing knife and ziplock bag.

Directions:

  1. In a small bowl, mix your softened cream cheese with a dab of black food coloring until you get a silver grey color.
  2. Turn a ziplock bag inside out over your hand and scoop up the silver cream cheese reserving a small amount in the bowl.
  3. Turn the bag right side in and press the cream cheese mixture into one corner of the bag.
  4. With a sharp knife, cut the corner of the sandwich bag off so that you have a small hole from which you can pipe the cream cheese. The smaller the better.
  5. Add more black food coloring to the reserved silver grey cream cheese until you get a jet black color.

For the body:

  1. Take one cheddar cheese slice and place it on a cutting board. Invert your wine glass and use it to cut a solid circle in the center of the slice.
  2. Take that solid circle of cheese and with a pairing knife freehand another small circle in the center. It should now look like a cheese doughnut.
  3. With your pairing knife, cut four concentric sections from the inside hole leaving four small interior spokes. This will form the center mechanism of your droid’s body.
  4. Take your other slice of cheddar cheese and place it on the cutting board. Invert your wine glass and use it to cut a solid circle in the center of the second slice.
  5. Take that second solid circle of cheese and with a pairing knife cut it into four equal pie pieces.
  6. With your pairing knife, cut the rounded edge of each pie piece forming four equal quarter rounds, about the same thickness of your center mechanism piece. These will form the four side pieces of your droid’s body.

For the head:

  1. Take the remainder of one cheddar cheese slice and with your pairing knife cut a section from around the edge of the rounded hole for the droid’s head stripe. This should be about a quarter inch in width.
  2. From the remainder of the other cheese slice cut various size squares and rectangles to attach as decorative pieces along the bottom grey head stripe.
  3. Cut your second flour tortilla in half across the diameter.
  4. With your knife cut the corners of the tortilla to round them up a bit.
  5. Cut one of the scrap pieces of tortilla to form the antenna that will go on top of the droid’s head.

Assembly:

  1. Place your droid’s round quesadilla body on a microwave safe plate.
  2. Sprinkle with 2/3 of the Mexican cheese blend.
  3. Top shredded cheese with the other round tortilla.
  4. Microwave for one minute.
  5. Repeat this process with the droid’s tortilla head. You should now have two cheese quesadillas.
  6. Place all cheddar cheese sliced pieces on your BB-8 Droid as pictured and pipe silver grey cream cheese in areas shown.
  7. With the tip of your knife, place a small dab of black cream cheese on your droids head and an even smaller dab below and to the right of it as shown.
  8. Pipe a silver rim around the smaller dot of black cream cheese.
  9. Place your droid’s head on its body and top with the tortilla antenna piece.

Enjoy!
