Zoo Scavenger Hunt Printable

When you visit the zoo, make sure you pack this incredibly fun printable scavenger hunt for the zoo.  Incorporating one of your favorite activities into the trip turns your zoo adventure into a fun game.

This fun outdoor scavenger hunt can be done on a zoo field trip with classroom students. Separate kids into groups for an engaged and educational team scavenger hunt at the zoo.

This can also be used on a family vacation or a staycation at the local zoo! It’s a great way for parents to guide their kids on the grounds as they learn about the different wildlife.

This zoo animal scavenger hunt set is perfect for kids of all ages. In fact, the set comes in two different style of scavenger hunts – a checklist and rhyming riddle clue cards.

printable zoo scavenger hunt for kids

Zoo Scavenger Hunt Checklist

The first zoo-themed scavenger hunt is a popular zoo animal checklist. Circle the animals as you find them at the zoo. Go in any order. With zoo animal photos, this activity is very easy for preschoolers and younger kids. However, if your focus is older kids, don’t toss this zoo animal checklist. Use it for your scavenger hunt at the zoo for adults and older kids.

Zoo Scavenger Hunt Clue Cards

Is your crowd older? Then use our extra fun zoo scavenger hunt riddles. In this clue based scavenger hunt, read each of the clue cards with zoo animal facts. As you read the clue, uncover the answer. Each zoo animal answer is also found on the zoo scavenger hunt checklist – so with the name of the animal, it keeps things simple and from anyone getting stumped.

How to organize a scavenger hunt at the zoo

Having a public scavenger hunt can always be a little bit of a challenge. This is because zoos are open to the general public and hiding clue cards might be challenging when you don’t’ want anyone to mess up your scavenger hunt. In addition, getting from one size of the zoo to the other size is a hike. Most people find they have covered miles walking at the end of the day.

Because of both the size and people at a zoo, it’s best to keep this scavenger hunt on you all day long. The checklist will be easy. As you pass the animals, circle the animal you have found. See if you can get a fun pattern of circles are even turn it into a BINGO board. How fast can you get five across or five down or five diagonal.

If using the clue cards, give your child all the clues up front. They can read the clues and solve which animal is what. You can also hold on to the zoo map and before you hit a section (say the safari section of the zoo), hand them all the clues that fit the safari animals.

Alternatively, save the entire set of cards for before or even after the zoo visit. They can review animals and fun facts about zoo animals found at their zoo.

While these zoo scavenger hunt riddles cover 20 common zoo animals, all of these animals might not be at the zoo you visit. You can take out those clue cards or keep them in for fun.

Can this zoo scavenger hunt be done at home?

Why not? Turn your home into a zoo (if it isn’t already.)Grab a pen and clipboards and use each of the printables and turn your own house into a zoo. There are a few fun ways to have a zoo scavenger hunt at home. Go on a virtual online zoo tour using some of the popular zoos we listed or turn your house into a pretend zoo. Use dramatic play and place stuffed animals around your home (or print out popular zoo animal pictures) and turn each room into a zoo animal habitat. Older kids can even help set up the at-home zoo for younger kids. name different rooms as habitats like Grassland, Rainforest, Tundra, etc.

Help someone beat the winter blues with this DIY care package. It includes fun gift ideas and free printables for making a cute box of sunshine gift.

cute box of sunshine diy care package free printable

Care packages are a great way to show someone you care, especially if they are going through a tough time. You can make a care package for anyone – a friend, family member, or even a stranger. They’re perfect all year long because kindness is always in season! Put together a box of sunshine for someone today with this easy DIY care package tutorial and fun care package printable!

DIY Care Package

A care package is a gift box full of fun items. This can be a parcel or cardboard box filled with activities, foods, trinkets, luxury items and/or thoughtful gifts. They are typically sent to a person through the mail service (FedEx, USPS, UPS) but can also be hand delivered.

A care package doesn’t have to be expensive, but it should be thoughtful and personal. There are so many different ways to make a care package. You can include anything you think the recipient would appreciate, whether it’s food, activities, or just some words of encouragement. The sky’s the limit!

What do I put in a care package?

What happens when an amazing, scrapbook-loving mother of five starts loosing kids to college? She transfers her scrapbook making to college care packages. Kristen, an amazing mother and friend, has created some of the best care package ideas I have ever seen. She starts with a theme and she gets rolling with incredible items to put inside the packages.

You don’t have to be a mother of five or a former scrap-booker to make amazing gift boxes. You simply have to know what to put inside a care package. To make your own care package, start by gathering all of the items you want to include. Try to stay on a theme and go from there. Of course, the theme can be “a few of my favorite things…” (meaning personalize it to yourself and the gift receiver.)

Here are some ideas to get you started. Choose a few items from each category to make a special treat the gift receiver is sure to love!

Food Items: non-perishable snacks, candy, gum, tea, coffee, favorite foods, healthy snacks

Activities and Entertainment: books, puzzles, board games, crafts, adult coloring books

Encouragement: positive affirmations, encouraging quotes, a handwritten note, bible verse cards

Trinkets: Mugs, bookmarks, framed photo, postcard with a sweet gift message, favorite items

Once you have your care box items, it’s time to put together your care package!

Care Package Ideas

If you’re still not sure what items you’d like to add to your care package, take a few minutes to think about the person you’re giving it to. For example, a care package for a college student during exams might have some fun snacks, maybe a soft blanket, and a calendar of positive sayings.

Do they love sewing? Maybe reading is more their thing. It could be that their favorite thing in the world is you and some photos, and handmade items would be the perfect choice.

MAGIC ELF TIP: Don’t have two Elf on the Shelf dolls? Borrow one from am friend and gift him/her Elf on the Shelf travel post cards while that Elf is on vacation (not in their home!)

Sawing an Elf on the Shelf in Half

It will take a few minutes to create this magic Elf on the Shelf trick. Your goal is to saw your Elf doll in two. To do this, you need multiple elf dolls. See our tip above for acquiring two elves.

The longest process will be crafting your magic saw box. Your goal is to make sure if your kids peek inside the box, they can’t see the elf. You can use stuffing to hide the rest of elf’s body, consider using tissues paper or pillow filling.

Supplies

  • The Elf on the Shelf Dolls
  • Play saw or a butter knife will work
  • Cardstock or 3×5 card
  • Pen or Marker
  • Christmas wrapping paper or kraft paper
  • Boxes

Instructions

Grab a box that is about the size of Elf. You will need two or to cut the box in half. You could even use toilet paper rolls.

Wrap them in gift wrap. Consider having extra wrap or tissue paper to hide the hidden Elf torso well. You don’t want your child peeking into the boxes and seeing there is a second elf doll.

Once your boxes are wrapped, insert the elves legs in one. YOu likely need to fold the legs in or over.

Insert the elf’s head in another box so the legs hang out.

Lay your boxes on the table and keep them about an inch apart.

Find a fun villian or magician to saw your elf in half. You can use a fun pretend play saw or butter knife for this fun idea.

On a 3×5 index card or cardstock, write the title “magic show.”

Viola – you have an adorable and magical elf on the shelf idea.

25 Interactive Scavenger Hunt Riddles For Teens at Home

Get off the electronics and solve a few challenging riddles! This printable teen scavenger hunt requires brain power and fun sleuthing skills. Teenagers can solve the clues to find a prize! It can be used at a birthday party, sleepover or as a fun activity (just because)! Get ready to see some serious teamwork from the tweens ( that’s off the online game system!)

Teen Scavenger Hunt Printable Clue Cards with Rhyming Riddles

I love a good scavenger hunt. There’s just something so exciting about reading the clues, running around, and racing against the clock or someone else. Let’s just say that friendly competition is something that I thoroughly enjoy.

In addition to me, a middle aged mom, teens love to have fun too. And guess what?! Fun can occur off the phone and off the game system. Toss the electronics and enjoy a good ‘ole at home treasure hunt.

We’ve put together an epic scavenger hunt filled with fun riddles for teens. The good part about a printable scavenger hunt like this one is that it’s all done and ready for you. You don’t have to stress out thinking about challenging scavenger hunt clues. You don’t have to be a a mission to think of something clever to write that rhymes. We’ve done the hard work for you!

This fun activity for teens is as simple as downloading, printing, and letting the scavenger hunt games begin!

May the odds forever be in your favor!

What are the rules of a scavenger hunt?

Oh! You want rules and some guidance. Sorry, I thought for a second I was dealing with teenagers. Really, the great thing about a teen scavenger hunt is that you can have a basis for the rules, but they’re more than likely going to make some up on their own! The biggest thing to remember is that some printable cards and clues basically tell them what to look for – and that is the only rule that there is…. look for the next clue card until you get to the end.

If you have a lot of teens participating, it might be wise to create some basic ground rules like “no running in the house!” I might add in a few personal rules like “get along” and “don’t wreck mom’s house.” You can split the game up some, like player one finds the first clue, player two the second, etc. so everyone gets a chance to participate.

Other than those simple rules, the game is self-lead… let the games begin!

epic teen scavenger hunt at home with clue cards riddles

Printable Teen Scavenger Hunt Clues

The fun part about these clues is that they’re made just for teens! Have them work their brains and try to figure out where the next clue is hidden – and don’t give them any help (or at least for a while.) The hunt comes with answers to the riddles too (in case you find your are stumped as well.)

The more teens that are playing, the funnier it gets. This is because sometimes, more pots in the kitchen make that space too crowded. Who will have the right idea about where the next clue is? You’ll have to sit back and relax and watch to find out.

Supplies

You don’t need a huge list of items for supplies to do this printable activity for teens! I’ve made it easy as possible to print instantly and go!

  • Printer (with ink)
  • Printer paper or cardstock paper (my favorite set)
  • Laminator (optional – I love this one)
  • Teen Scavenger Hunt Printable Cards

Where are good places to hide scavenger hunt clues?

In our printable scavenger hunt, we have listed all the locations. Some great places for clue hiding are:

  • In a mailbox
  • In a utensil drawer
  • Under the bed
  • In the washing machine
  • In the refrigerator
  • On the stairs
  • In the microwave

And those are just a few options. Use the clues to be your guide to uncover all 25 of the hidden treasure hunt locations.

How can this scavenger hunt be used?

Use this scavenger hunt for a holiday or special occasion. If hosting a family birthday, each clue might have a new birthday present to unwrap. This could quickly become a family tradition. Save this particular hunt for your tween. Use an outdoor treasure hunt, indoor scavenger hunt, or even a scavenger hunt birthday party for the other members to find their presents during the rest of the year.

Other great times for a scavenger hunt include…

  • Teen birthday party (find the party favors)
  • Sleepover
  • Uncover a surprise family vacation
  • Find all the laundry you’ve been begging them to put away
  • Building problem solving skills
  • Create a fun memory with siblings
  • Explore a new house
  • Just because

Are these hard scavenger hunt clues?

Yes and no. These are challenging scavenger hunt riddles for teens.  They are not meant for younger kids. Initially they will be hard scavenger hunt clues, however once your children get the hang of solving these rhyming riddles, they likely will get into a rhythm of guessing quickly. If you have a group of younger kids, pair them with older kids.

Want a variation with a harder modern twist? One fun way to add a bit of an additional challenge is to test the scavenger hunt yourself. See how long it takes you in your dwelling and then challenge the players with a time limit (less than what it took you.) Set a timer. On your mark, get set, go! Racing against the clock adds a bit of excitement.

What are some of the scavenger hunt riddles for teens?

Need a little sneak peek? Here are just a few of the riddles for teens clues that you’ll find on these printable cards.

I’m not a selfie but I do show faces. Find me in a bathroom and a few other places.

I get bigger when I eat a fibrous treat, but die weakter with a drink that makes me obsolete.

Until you get your license to drive a car, my gears are your best means of traveling far.

Super cute, right? These clues for a scavenger hunt are written in riddle form and are challenging for teens but not too hard. The clues give them just enough of an idea to use their critical thinking skills and then figure the rest of the teen riddle out.

Where can I get an at home scavenger hunt for teens?

How to Trap Elf on the Shelf in a Water Bottle

This is one of those “how did the Elf on the Shelf do that” idea. Best of all, it’s quick and easy for you mama. Your kids will brag over and over what their Elf doll did last night and you will feel like a Pinterest mom with very little effort.

My only request, though, is if you try this Elf idea, you send some one back to this page to try it themselves. Lets support fellow Elf on the Shelf Moving Committee members – because we all know the struggle bus can be real during this holiday season!

Let’s begin – quickly gather a few supplies.

Supplies

  • The Elf on the Shelf Doll
  • Water Bottle (or another plastic bottle)
  • Utility Knife
  • Tape

Instructions

Its’ actually very easy to get Elf on the Shelf stuck in a water bottle.

  1. First, take off the top of your plastic water bottle. Drain the water.
  2. Carefully peel the label of the bottle and put it to the side. You want to keep this label intact.
  3. Take a utility knife and carefully cut the water bottle in half. This can be done directly behind where the label was. You will cut in a cross potion and drag your knife all the way around the bottle so it cuts in half with a bottom and a top.
  4. Dry out the inside of your bottle with a paper towel or towel.
  5. Insert your Scout Elf.
  6. If you want an Elf on the Shelf note or message, insert the note in the bottle too.
  7. Carefully lay the two parts of the bottle together. Tape the two pieces together so that the tape will be hidden when the label goes back on.
  8. Once the pieces are held together, carefully wrap the water bottle label back on the bottle. Tape it together. Try to hide or mask the tape.
  9. Place your Elf on the Shelf Water bottle with the other water bottles that hold elf.
  10. Viola – you have trapped your Elf in a bottle!

Have fun watching your kids find their North Pole elf in this Hard Elf on the Shelf hiding spot.

What is Elf on the Shelf?

Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition. The tradition has a book and a elf doll. The book is poetic and in rhyme sharing the purpose of the Elf’s visits. The Elf visits each Thanksgiving. He/She goes and returns from the North Pole each evening. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. The Elf has been found in the refrigerator, fishing in the toilet, writing messages on the mirror or hanging from the lights. It is VERY IMPORTANT, the Elf is not touch each evening or his Christmas magic will be lost! Each family is able to name their special elf. The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve. An Elf’s Story can also be found on DVD.
