Secret Agent Training

Before starting the spy party games, you’ll want to have a little secret agent training for your guests. This will help them get into character and understand the rules of the games.

Explain that they are all undercover agents working for a secret organization. You can supply each child at the secret agent party with a manila envelope or folder. Use the Find Your Code Names PDF to get each agent’s spy name. Provide sharpies and name tags so that each agent can refer to the other players by their spy name.

They will have to have their photo taken so you can post it on the “Wanted” bulletin board. A small black briefcase is also a cool decoration if you have access to one.

  • Explain that they are all undercover agents working for a secret organization.
  • Give them their mission briefing and explain the rules of the game.
  • Distribute any props they will need for their mission, such as fake weapons, disguises, or ID cards.

The first game is always best to start with some training so that everyone is on the same page.

Fun Spy Party Games Ideas

The following are some of the included unique ideas that are fun for kids of all ages.

Spy Game #1 – Pin the target on the enemy spy! Use a picture of an enemy spy, downloaded from the Internet or drawn yourself, and give every guest a target to pin onto it. Be sure to cover the agent’s eyes before they each pin their target onto the picture.

Spy Game #2 – Shoe Print Expert. In this game, the agents will examine the shoe that was found near the crime scene and search for matches.

A birthday countdown is exciting. It creates anticipation and excitement. Take a look at these ideas for a birthday countdown that includes a buildup of excitement plus adorable birthday countdown gift tags.

birthday countdown ideas and printable birthday gift tags 1 to 40

Do you know one thing we all have in common? Everyone has a birthday. Some are celebrated more than others (can I get an Amen mamas?) Others are celebrated with sweet touches and thoughtful gifts.

Countdown Ideas for a Birthday

Birthday countdowns are exciting because they are visual representations of the timeline to the big day. They are especially good for younger kids but they can be exciting for teenagers and even adults. Count down the days until the actual date of the birthday or countdown the number of gifts – perfect for a milestone b-day.

numbered gift tags for a birthday countdown

In anticipation of an upcoming birthday for an extra special birthday boy or girl, try these Birthday Countdown ideas.

Numbered Birthday Cards

numbered birthday cards for a birthday countdown idea

Hit the Dollar store and grab a dozen or so birthday cards. Number them in order and write a special message on each card. The birthday girl or boy can open one birthday card each day until their birthday celebration. Instead of you writing all a dozen messages, have special family members, aquantiences, and friends write messages too. This can include coaches, teachers, friends, and family. Instead of receiving all their birthday cards in one day, they receive them slowly allowing the recipient to savor each message.

Gift Cards For Each Year

one gift cards for each year of life for a birthday countdown idea

Grab gift cards as a build-up to the special occasion. This is especially fun for a milestone birthday. For example, for a ten-year-old birthday present idea, have ten gift cards. Ten days before your child’s birthday, give them a new gift card each day. These gift cards can be small and large all the way from $5 to $20. They don’t have to be the same amount. Or for younger kids, give them a gift card the value of their age. So for a sweet 16 birthday, gift sixteen $16 gift cards. You can have duplicates to places like Amazon or Starbucks if you want the values to add up.

Birthday Advent Calendar

happy birthday advent calendar for a birthday countdown idea

Recycle your advent calendar from Christmas or make your own 12 days of birthday DIY Advent calendar. Turn this holiday-themed decor into a cute and creative birthday countdown calendar. Fill small boxes or bags with a little gift like sweet treats and surprises in anticipation of the arrival of your child’s birthday. You can use these free Advent countdown stickers and make your own DIY countdown calendar for a birthday.

Electronic Countdown Clock

birthday countdown clock for a birthday countdown idea

Start a fun countdown clock. This can be done with a birthday countdown internet clock or you can get an interchangeable countdown clock timer that has a face you can change for all your important calendar dates including vacation, retirement, Christmas, and birthday! Your birthday kiddo will love watching the numbers change.

Birthday Countdown Chain

paper chain for a birthday countdown idea

If you were a child of the 80s, you know paper chains. Grab construction paper and cut strips of paper to make your own DIY Countdown Paper Chain. This is a great visual for younger kids and they will love tearing apart the newest chain paper each morning when they wake up each day of their birthday week. On the slips of paper, you can even use markers to write sweet birthday wishes or birthday tokens/coupons for future activities. If making your own chain is not your thing, grab a low-cost birthday countdown chain on Amazon. Just add numbers to each ring so you can watch the days go by and the numbers get smaller.

Birthday Countdown Punch Out Calendar

punch out calendar supplies for a birthday countdown idea

This idea is super fun and is a play on a punchout advent calendar (as seen in our Christmas Care Packages.) These fun punchout calendars are sold during the Christmas season but you can easily make your own. Glue plastic SOLO cups to a board – anywhere from 10 to 20 cups is the perfect amount. Fill your plastic cups with small trinkets, candy, and/or toys. Cover the opening of your cups with tissue paper. Using rubber bands will easily cover your openings. Number your cups from 1 to whatever. In a gift punch, the person opening the gifts, “punches” the cup in to see what gift they are getting! This is a really fun option for someone who wants to make a birthday even more special.

Birthday Bucket List

birthday bucket list for a birthday countdown idea

Why have a birth day when you can have a birth month? Celebrate the entire week or the entire month of your child’s birthday with a birthday bucket list. Use the ideas we supply or fill in your own family bucket list ideas with activities that are fitting to your special birthday guest of honor.

Numbered Balloon Pop

birthday balloons countdown for a birthday countdown idea

Hang ten balloons on a string. This can look like balloon garland or you can fill the balloons with helium and have them reach the ceiling. Before you fill the balloons with air, roll a $1, $5, $10, or even $20 bill inside the balloons. You can even add confetti. Each day before the big day, pop a balloon and collected the money! It’s like an individual pinata filled with cash. Watch that wallet fill up with money!

Birthday Box

birthday box for a birthday countdown idea

A birthday box is super fun. This can come in the form of a shipped birthday care package or you can grab the largest, most oversized box you can find – can you imagine a refrigerator box? WOAH! Fill the entire box with your son/daughter/spouse/significant other’s presents. Number these gifts and allow your special someone to open a new present each day.

Where are my selfie fans at? This Selfie Scavenger Hunt is one that everyone will love! Print this selfie scavenger hunt PDF and see who has the best selfie skills. This is a fantastic way to have everyone laughing, posing, and talking, potentially their wackiest and silliest selfies yet!

How many times have you ever wondered how many selfies there are to take? We all fall into that want and need to turn the smartphone around and say “cheese,” so why not use a printable scavenger hunt to help get you there?!

Since I know I’m always looking for ideas, I created an inexpensive scavenger hunt that is great for tweens, teens, and adults! Use this printable to add some fun to birthday parties and family gatherings or just to add a great game for all to join in on.

And if you’ve ever wondered how many selfies someone can take in a short amount of time, you’re about to find out!

What is a selfie scavenger hunt?

It’s just like it sounds. Each person who wants to be a part of the scavenger hunt fun gets a printed selfie sheet and starts working their way down the list.

Some selfies can be done right there on the spot, while others will take a little bit more creativity to make happen. The faster you can pose and click that camera, the closer you’ll be to winning the selfie game!

Who will be crowned the “selfie queen” or the “selfie king”? You’ll have to download and play to find out!

How to Create a Selfie Scavenger Hunt

Fun Selfie Scavenger Hunt printable with phone camera

A few steps are needed to plan this super fun scavenger hunt. First, figure out who is going to play. Second, make sure that everyone has a cell phone to be able to snap those selfies!  Third, make up a few fun rules like “no blurry selfies” allowed!  Finally, get your printable selfie scavenger hunt checklist. You can decide if any of the items deserve bonus points for creativity or fastest to finish.  Those bonus points can complement affect and change the winner!

Who Can Play

Did I mention that this selfie game is great for all ages? It can be used for a team building scavenger hunt or just to have everyone get a few laughs.

  • Workplace Employees

  • K-12 Classroom Students

  • Birthday Party Guests

  • Team-Building Ice Breakers for New Friends

  • Youth Group

  • College Sorority Sisters or Fraternity Brothers

Take this city scavenger hunt as an adventure on a family game night, as ice breakers for a conference, to a birthday party and more.

The more that want to join in on the fun, the better! It never gets old to see selfies plus the more teammates and players the harder it gets to take those selfies – make sure you have a selfie stick!

How to Play

The fun part about this printable selfie game is that there are minimal rules – but maximum fun! I think that there are three main ways to play, in no particular order:

Team vs Team: Pair up people into teams, and race against the clock! What team can get the selfies done quicker than the other?

Man vs Clock: You can do this with one person and the clock, or team vs. clock as well. Set a timer, and once the timer goes off, count up how many selfies each person got done. The one with the most, wins!

Individual vs Individual: Mom vs. Dad? Brother vs. Sister? Just two people are needed to play, so bring on the friendly competition!

The instructions are simple. Find all the items on the list or find the most items in a set amount of time.

Where to Play

There are so many options to play this selfie scavenger hunt activity. We have a list of public locations to take selfies, but since this is an editable document, you can easily make your own rules and add to the list to include home locations or indoor scavenger hunt ideas, too! Plus it’s versatile. Take it on your focations and play in town one time and a different city another time.

Having a birthday party on a budget isn’t always easy, but it’s possible! Finding low cost party ideas just takes a little time and effort. If you don’t have the time or even if you don’t want to put in the effort, then these tips are for you! Sacrifice on the wallet but not the fun!

cheap birthday party ideas low-cost party for kids and adults

Birthday celebrations can be expensive. But there are cheap and inexpensive ways to make an adults’ or kid’s birthday fun. These fun ideas are affordable and easy to set up for friends and family of any age.

I’m going to walk you through having a fun birthday party on the budget. From party ideas to activities, you will be able to put together an amazing party and all on a budget!

How to have a birthday party on a budget

Are you looking to celebrate a birthday but don’t want to spend a lot of money? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. According to a recent survey, the average person spends about $600 on their birthday celebrations. But there’s no need to break the bank just to have a good time.

Cheap birthday parties for those on a budget can still turn out great. You really just have to focus on the areas that you want to spend money on and the other areas you can do on a budget! For example, you may want to go all out on the cake, but save money on the gifts. With a little bit of creativity, you can still have a fantastic birthday party without blowing your budget.

Here are some tips for cheap birthday party ideas:

Set a budget and stick to it

This is probably the most important tip when it comes to having a child’s birthday party on a budget. Decide how much you’re willing or able to spend beforehand, and then make sure all of your decisions reflect that budget. Start with the item that is most important to you. One that you are not willing to spend less on. Start there and then start researching the rest of the party ideas.

Get creative with the guest list

Instead of inviting everyone you know, be selective about who you invite. You can still have a great time with fewer people in attendance. Plus, this will allow you to focus your spending on making sure those who do attend have an amazing time. The individuals that were not invited to this party can be guests for another occasion.

DIY as much as possible

Another great way to save money is by doing things yourself instead of hiring someone else to do them for you. For example, if you’re good at baking, why not make your own cake instead of buying one? Or if you’re crafty, you could make your own invitations or decorations instead of buying them from a store. Pinterest and bloggers provide a lot of ideas for DIY party favors, printable banners, and even low-cost themed birthday party ideas.

Think outside the box when it comes to activities

Just because there’s no money for entertainment doesn’t mean your guests will be bored. There are plenty of fun games and activities that don’t cost anything to play. For example, charades, scavenger hunts, karaoke and printable themed party games are all great options that are sure to keep your guests happy and entertained.

Save on the Venue

In addition to thinking outside the box for birthday party activities, also think outside the box for the party room. Public, national, and local parks are often affordable places. Think of all the places friends have had parties. Now cross those ideas off. Why, because they are popular and popular means there is an up charge in cost – supply vs demand.  This past year, we found a small fish tank aquarium. It had an outdoor place for the kids to play and it might have been the best, most affordable party we ever had. Parents raved about the venue and no one had every been there before. By finding something that was not “common” we saved a lot. If the venue place is still too much, have a party at your home or in your backyard.

Having a birthday party on a budget is totally possible, you just need to get creative! By following these low-cost party tips, you can throw an amazing bash without breaking the bank in the process!

What activities do children like to do on their birthdays?

Still looking for inexpensive birthday party ideas? Birthdays are a special time for kids. It’s a day when they get to feel extra special and loved. Having a few family-only birthday traditions are a great way to recognize the guest of honor. If you’re looking for some fun ideas to make your child’s birthday even more special, look no further!

Here are some great low cost party ideas for celebrating birthdays with kids. Create these fun birthday ideas with a party of two to a party of 30!

Have a picnic lunch

Get some yummy food and drinks and have a picnic lunch outside! This is a great way to enjoy the nice weather and have some quality time with your child. Find a unique place to eat like on top of a big rock in the middle of a creek or downtown in the city with tall buildings.

Make a cake

Let your child help you make their birthday cake! Make your own DIY cake mix or pick up a boxed mix. They’ll love being able to help out and will be so excited to eat their creation. You can even let them make their own miniature cake (or cupcake) and have a larger cake for the family to share. This can be done with themed party food or party snacks too.

Go on a nature walk

Explore the great outdoors with your child on their birthday! This is a great way to get some exercise and fresh air while spending time together. Try this outdoor treasure hunt for locating special gifts.

Visit a farm

Many farms offer tours or activities specifically for kids. This can be a fun and educational way to spend a child’s birthday!

Go to the zoo

However, having a good time is actually quite affordable and planning for a holiday party can be just as fun as the actual party itself.

Learn how to take simple party games and ideas and turn them into amazing holiday party games for adults or DIY party games for kids with just a simple twist of the theme and/or directions.

What games are usually played at a party?

It’s not too complicated to come up with games for a party. There are many classic games that have been played at your earliest party memories. However, if you want guests to have a ridiculously fun time, it’s important to come up with traditional party games only offering a twist. This makes a common game into a fun game you’ve probably never played before.

Good party game ideas incorporate everyone, create ice breakers and bonding amoung teammates and offer a little bit of friendly competition.  Good games create banter, laughter, and innocent fun.

A few games that are good for a party include…

  • Twister

  • Charades

  • Truth or Dare

  • Pin the Tail on the Donkey

  • Musical Chairs

  • Pictionary

  • Trivia

  • Bingo

  • Piñata

However, the rules of everyone one of these common games can be used to turn into a new unique game you’ve never played before. When you take a good party game and turn it into something of your own, it creates a memorable time for party guests. Positive memories mean good times.

Now that we know of these fun party activities, let’s learn how we can turn them into incredibly awesome holiday party games for the entire year and any occasion and age group.

What makes a good party game?

A good game usually fits a themed party. Whether your hosting a holiday party, birthday party, or office party, create group games based on your party theme. Instead of reinventing the wheel, start with many of your classic and traditional games and add fun flare based on the type of party you are having. Next, consider your audience and their skill level and go from there. Many children’s games can be used for young kids or adapted into hilarious party games for adults who like to have fun!

It’s easy to create a good party game when you start with a simple game and gift it a twist. For example, if you are hosting a Christmas party, turn a limbo game into Santa Belly Limbo. Have participants wear a Santa hat, ugly sweaters and put a “Santa belly” under their shirt using a balloon (or pillows.) Use a roll of wrapping paper as a limbo stick and continue to follow the rules of Limbo, lowering the roll of gift wrap the game until you have one winner remaining. You turned a dull game into a perfect game for Christmas.

Classic Party Games

the best holiday party games

Let’s start by taking a look at these fun traditional party games. The goal is to take these classic games and turn them into something themed.

Scavenger Hunts

A scavenger hunt is a game in which a list of items or places are discovered. A scavenger hunt can use a checklist, where each item is crossed off the list when found or it can include a series of clues in which contests race to solve and discover new clues. Scavenger hunts are often holiday themed and can also be called treasure hunts as the end of the journey usually includes a price. Host scavenger hunts in teams of two, in groups, or as individual players playing against a clock.

Holiday Trivia

How did we even play trivia before the days of Google. Let’s all take a minute and thank Google for all if it’s factual knowledge. Whatever the occasion, begin to research your trivia. Take your theme and Google search (insert holiday name) trivia. Immediately, you can declare your self an expert in such and such holiday. If hosting a holiday party about a a particular someone, frame all the quiz questions around them. Drill them with questions before the event and find out who knows them best. Chances are every party as a certain hot shot that can’t wait to be called the trivia master.

Bingo

We know B-I-N-G-O is more than a dog. Bingo is a quick and easy game to unload a bunch of prizes. They are excellent for kids party games or can be use for adults too. For example, use these free Bingo Cards. Print and play. If hosting a party for kids, have a bunch of fun trinkets and party favors. Not only does it fill the party with plenty of positive energy, it keeps the kids occupied. If hosting a party for adults. consider mini cocktail bottles as party favors. They can be the catalyst or start to your drinking party games for later in the evening.

Charades

Charades can be played with any type of word or phrase. Words (and phrases) are placed on a card and drawn blindly from a hat or bag. A person from each team goes to the front of the room to act out the phrase while their teammates try to guess what they are silently acting out. There are two sets of rules for charades games. The game of charades tends to be funnier as the party goes on.

Pass the Gift

Pass the gift or pass the parcel is a great party game for teens, kids and even adults. There are many times of party games where a gift is passed along. This can include a white elephant gift exchange game. This game is usually played with dice and directions are given based on the number rolled on the dice. At the end of the game, each person goes home with a fun present. You can also play pass the parcel where small presents are on different layers of a gift wrapped in wrapping paper or cling film plastic wrap. You can insert small themed party favors, gift cards, trinkets and more.  Choose the layers to have themed goodies fitting for the holiday party you are throwing.

Board Games

When bringing board games to a holiday party, you need to consider the amount of guests that are invited. Board games are often limited by players. You can always extend the amount of players that can play by grouping up players. You also can host board games at various tables and locations in your home (or holiday party venue location.) A list of creative-thinking good board games for a party include Taboo, Scattergories, Jenga, Ticket to Ride, Clue, Apples to Apples, Chutes and Ladders, Uno, or Cranium.

Also take a look at our list of Family Game Night Game Ideas.

Lets look at some of these traditional party activities and turn them into party games for indoor and outdoor parties.
