What is Elf on the Shelf?

He/She goes and returns from the North Pole each evening. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. The Elf has been found in the refrigerator, fishing in the toilet, writing messages on the mirror or hanging from the lights. It is VERY IMPORTANT, the Elf is not touch each evening or his Christmas magic will be lost! Each family is able to name their special elf. The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve. An Elf’s Story can also be found on DVD.

This can be done with a sweet happy birthday Elf on the Shelf note in the mail or this might be a one time day visit complete with a birthday cake, birthday breakfast and even a special birthday gift.

This is such an easy Elf on the Shelf Idea. Not many supplies are needed to create a perfect birthday balloon bouquet.

Using a permanent marker, we added the special message “dream high, soar high.” You could also say “happy birthday!”

We held the straws together with a clear orthodontist rubber band. You could also use a cute ribbon.

For this Elf on the Shelf Idea, we printed off self portraits of Elf on the Shelf and plastered them all over our refrigerator. It was quite comical to look at in the kitchen all day. It was a reminder that our Elf is always watching.

I would suggest you carefully place your Elf in a watchful position. Clearly, putting Elf on the refrigerator handle (as we did for this photo) can cause some hungry tummies all day. How to Print from Staples

I like to order my prints at Staples. It saves on ink and is only a few short miles from my home. I pick-up at the store, but of course you can upload them online and then have them shipped to your home.

Download and save your image from this post. (Please note these images are for personal use only and cannot be sold or used for commercial use.)
Sign in or create a Staples account on their print service page.
Return to Staples print service page.
Go to Start Project.
Go to Documents Printing. Select Browse.
Select the Buy Now Button under color.
On the left column, choose add file.
Select upload.
Select done.
Give your job a name.
Choose a quantity – if you want 10 portrait, fill in 10.
Make sure your project is single sided. The orientation should be portrait.
I changed my media to 8.5×11 and the media to 67 lb cover stock (I prefer a card stock feel over printer paper feel.)
Select add to cart.
Proceed to checkout. My total was under $1 for one print. You can choose to ship to your home or to pick up at your local store. Pay online and show your invoice when you pick up (I just show the order number on my phone at pick-up.) The order invoice will arrive in your email inbox.

Are your older kids involved in Elf on the Shelf. As the kids got older and still wanted visits from Elf, ideas became complicated. For one, sometimes I was in bed before the kids. That meant, either Elf did not move, or he/she moved when they were at school.

What is Elf on the Shelf?

What is Elf on the Shelf? This is Elf on the Shelf Explained in one minute. Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition. This holiday tradition has an Elf on the Shelf book and a Scout Elf doll. The Scout Elf book is poetic and in rhyme sharing the purpose of the Elf’s visits.

While Elf on the Shelf lives at the North Pole, he begins visiting families every Christmas season checking on naughty or nice behavior of children. The Elf on the Shelf first visits each Thanksgiving. Each family is able to name their special elf. Each evening, Scot Elf returns from the North Pole to report to Santa on a family’s behavior. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. You must find him!

It is important VERY IMPORTANT, you do not touch The Elf on the Shelf or her/his Christmas magic will be lost! The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve.

Elf on the Shelf Rules

There are a few rules when it comes to adopting an Elf.

Name your Elf on the Shelf

Give your North Pole visitor a name. Look at our 50+ ideas of Elf on the Shelf Names.

Do Not Touch Elf on the Shelf

Elf looses his magic if he is touched by humans. Do not touch Elf on the Shelf. If you need to move Elf (for example, he/she has fallen) use our Magic Elf Grippers to move Elf. Also read about Elf being touched in the In Case of Elftastrophe an Elf on the Shelf Emergency Guide Book.

Elf Moves at Night

No matter what, Elf cannot move when you are watching. Elf on the Shelf moves at night when everyone is asleep. There may be a few occasion when Elf will need to move during the day when the kids are at school. Sometimes Elves fall asleep too. Look at our list of Reasons Elf Did Not Move plus a tip to make sure he/she moves each day.

Elf Cannot Talk

Elf is always listening, but Elf cannot talk. Tell Elf about your day, about your Christmas Wish List. You can even leave notes for Santa with Elf and he/she will deliver them at night to Santa Claus.

Elf Must Return Home at Christmas

Elf must go back to his home in the North Pole at Christmas. Look for a postcard. Elf might send you mail on his vacation or from his home! Typically Elf leaves on Christmas Eve night with Santa on the sleigh. Some elves stay and watch you open presents, returning to their home with magic the next day.

Can parents touch the elf on the shelf?

Frequently it’s asked, can adults touch Elf on the Shelf. Parents, it’s important to follow the rules of Elf on the Shelf. Elf must never be touched. However, if Elf has an accident or falls, it is important to move Elf from any dangerous spots (for example, the floor where your pet dog might pick it up.) You can use these Magic Elf on the Shelf grippers, so parents can touch and move Elf on the Shelf without actually “touching” the Elf.

Parents may also use a gloved hand OR if Elf must be touched with the skin of a human, Elf should sit out for another 24 hours.

Incredibly easy Witch Hat Halloween Appetizer for a Halloween party or an after school snack for the kids. Serve with spaghetti on a cool October night!

Witch Hat Halloween Appetizer

One of my first Halloween costumes was a witch. Anyone remember those 80’s costumes? Costumes made entirely out of plastic, often with a face cover that was in no way safe for trick or treating on a dark street. My Pinterest self cringes thinking back on that costume. I pretty sure my wig was lopsided the entire evening.

I’m not dressing up as a witch anymore, but I am perfecting a piece of the costume in my kitchen. Make these INCREDIBLY EASY witch hat Halloween appetizers. Make these for as a Halloween Food Craft for a party or as an after school snack for the kids.

Witch Hat Garlic Bread

Makes 8 servings
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cooke time: 12 minutes

Witch Hat Halloween Appetizer

Ingredients

1 can crescent roll dough
2 tablespoons butter, melted
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon dried parsley
1 slice cheddar cheese
8 sliced black olives
Marinara sauce for serving (optional)

Instructions

First, preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Next, unroll crescent roll dough and separate into 8 triangles.
Place the triangles on an ungreased baking sheet ( I like using a silicon baking mat.) Brush the triangles with melted butter, then sprinkle with garlic powder and dried parsley. Fold the straight end of each triangle over to resemble the brim of the witch hat.
While the hats are baking, cut the slice of cheese into eight thin strips.
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until hats are golden brown.
Lastly, allow to cool slightly, then place a strip of cheese on each hat above the brim, trimming the cheese to fit the hat. Place an olive slice in the center of the cheese strip to resemble the buckle.The cheese will melt slightly to secure it in place.
Serve with marinara sauce for dipping (optional).

Corduroy is one of my favorite materials. I loved it when I was in middle and high school, and I’m super excited that it’s making a come back. You can step into corduroy this fall with these awesome pieces that we found.
