Hosting a glow party? Going in the outdoors and need a kids lantern? This glow-in-the-dark rainbow lantern craft has easy step by step instructions to make a camping lantern for the kids with glow sticks. Also an adorable craft for glow party lighting!

Easy Glow in the Dark Rainbow Lantern Craft

Easy Glow in the Dark Rainbow Lantern Craft

Has anyone else been on full speed since the last school bell rang this summer? This house of seven has been very busy. We have hit every museum, gone to numerous pools, stayed up late catching fire flies, chased splash pads around the city, and watched all the movies we can handle. While the creativity this mamma has had has been pretty top notch,  I must admit, I am frequently referring back to the calendar counting down the days until the first school bell rings… can anyone else hear that faint sound?

If you are trying to fill the gaps between the last bell and first bell or whether you are still winning at checking off the summer bucket list, both sides of the mom camp will enjoy this creative and VERY EASY Rainbow Lantern Craft. Pull out the remainder glow sticks you didn’t use over the Fourth of July, grab your excess mason jars, and pick up these affordable mason jar wire hangers.  You can go camping in the great outdoors or you can avoid the misquotes and make it something special for the kids to read their book by at night (in their bedroom, in the AC, while you sip wine in the other room!)

You are still winning mom! You got this. Happy rest of the summer break!

Glow in the Dark Rainbow Lantern Craft Supplies

Supplies:

  • 1 pack 8 count glow bracelets
  • 8 oz mason jar
  • Mason jar wire hangers

Camping Rainbow Lantern Craft for the Kids

Directions:

  1. When you are ready to enjoy your lantern, “crack” each glow stick down it’s entire length to that the light is activated.
  2. One at a time form each glow stick into a bracelet shape and push the glow stick down into the mason jar so it hugs the jar from the inside.
  3.  Repeat step 2 until all 8 glow sticks are inside your jar hugging the inside. If your jar is taller, add more glow sticks until your desire length is reached.
  4. Screw your lids back on and place the mason jar wire handle around the rod and lock in place.
  5. Use to light up a walkway, a tent, a bedroom, back yard or many more ideas! We love this for a glow party!

Twist up this popular dessert into a tasty treat for summer, Chocolate Covered Strawberry Popsicles. This frozen dessert features yogurt, strawberries, and a hardening chocolate sauce!

Chocolate Covered Strawberry Popsicles

Chocolate Covered Strawberry Popsicles

We our family wants to go out for dessert, we often hit a bakery. This allows everyone to get what the desire… and living in a major city, we are fortunate to have about half a dozen dessert options within a 3 miles radius… is that fortunate, or trouble? When we hit these bakeries, one of my favorite items to get for myself are chocolate covered strawberries, but sometimes it feels like an arm and a leg to get just one. I mean, two dollars for that strawberry? I think not when I know I can get a small carton of strawberries for that price! Anyways, my sweet tooth always wins and the frugal in me always falls (insert sad face.) This summer, I wanted to create a treat for the kids and I that was a fraction of what it would cost for me to hit up the bakery – Chocolate Covered Strawberry Popsicles.

These Chocolate Covered Strawberry Popsicles had my kids in mind (thus the sprinkles and Magic Shell, but you could always adapt the recipe to your own taste buds – like how about melting some Ghirardelli Chocoalte Chips with no sprinkles – we think mom, aka me, would love that!

Enjoy!

We have quick and easy giant squid cupcakes for your next beach party. Eight adorable legs, two giant eyes, and a fluffy head make this octopus dessert one easy food craft for the kids.

Giant Squid Cupcakes

Hosting a beach party? Our  Beach Inspired Party Ideas have gone so well we wanted to share with you some more food ideas for your celebration.  Recently we shared with you our Clam Cookies and Mermaid Party Ideas, so today we thought it would be fun to have another festive under the sea dessert.

Take a look at these adorable giant squid cupcakes.  If you are looking for cute cupcake liners, we are a pretty big fan of these blue cupcake liners but if these Wilton Blue Ombre Cupcake holders ever return, we suggest grabbing those.

This food craft was very easy and can be used for the kids. Our cupcakes were prebaked (do while the kids are in school if you want – you might just get to lick the bowl by yourself). You can also pick up unfrosted cupcakes at many local grocery stores. Just ask the bakery department.

The prep time and creative time is minimal and you can have this cupcake craft out in minutes. Our recipe yields 6 cupcakes, but obviously multiply as you need!

Giant Squid Cupcakes Ingredients

Supplies:

  • 6 Prepared Cupcakes, unfrosted
  • 1 Can Blue Frosting
  • 1 pkg. Twizzlers Pull N’ Peel Licorice—fruit punch flavor
  • 6 Large Marshmallows
  • 8 oz. Chocolate Melts, Purple
  • 12 Edible Candy Eyes

We have quick and easy giant squid cupcakes for your next beach party. Eight adorable legs, two giant eyes, and a fluffy head make this octopus dessert one easy food craft for the kids.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 Prepared Cupcakes, unfrosted
  • 1 Can Blue Frosting
  • 1 pkg. Twizzlers Pull N’ Peel Licorice in fruit punch flavor
  • 6 Large Marshmallows
  • 8 oz. Chocolate Melts, Purple or Red (we used purple)
  • 12 Edible Candy Eyes

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, melt the purple chocolate per package directions.
  2. Poke a toothpick into a marshmallow and dip into the chocolate until fully covered. This will make your head.
  3. Set the marshmallow down on a parchment lined baking sheet and remove the toothpick. Repeat this for all the heads/marshmallows.
  4. Press two edible eyeballs on the front of each marshmallow before the chocolate hardens. Leave these set until the chocolate is hard and the eyes are set.
  5. Frost each cupcake with the blue frosting making sure to put extra in the middle so the frosting slopes downward a little. Take a butter knife, touch it all around the frosting, and gently pull up so the frosting will look like water waves.
  6. Take a rope of the licorice and cut into 4 pieces. Unwind the strings so you will have all the purple pieces separated. You will need 48 of these pieces for the squid legs.
  7. Lay 8 licorice legs over the top of each cupcake so they drape down over the frosting hanging off the edges a bit.
  8. Set an squid head on top of each cupcake right in the center over the tops of the legs. Press them down a bit so they stay on the cupcake and so it looks like the head is attached to the legs.
  9. These fun little cupcakes are easy to make and would be fun at any summer party!
