Instead of a cookie monster, we have created an Elf monster with this funny Christmas Tree Face Elf on the Shelf idea. Quickly craft a Christmas tree eating Elf on the Shelf with these supplies and instructions.

Elf on the Shelf Supplies Needed

• The Elf on the Shelf Doll
• Cardstock or paper (this is the best cardstock which is perfect for your Elf printables)
• Paper Plates
• Markers
• Scissors
• Optional: Oversized Giant Googly Eyes

Instructions

Start by making your DIY Christmas Tree Face. You will need three paper plates for this prank idea.

Using markers, draw two eyes on paper plates for your Christmas tree eyes. You can also get these oversized huge googly eyes and use them instead.

Use scissors to cut out the middle of the third paper plate. You want to cut it into sharp teeth shape as if carving a jack-o-lantern.

Make sure your Elf fits for the paper plate mouth and lay it on the tree.

On cardstock, write the message I do like eating Elves.

Display your Christmas tree elf idea.

Have fun making your own homemade garland. This activity can initially introduced by the Scout Elf on the Shelf. After elf moves the next day, you can continue this fun Christmas craft for kids while enjoying a family movie night or craft day.

How to Make Marshmallow Garland

Homemade marshmallow garland is a fun Christmas activity for kids. You might even start a new Christmas tradition once you create one this year.

To get started on your Elf on the Shelf Marshmallow garland, gather a few supplies.

Supplies

• The Elf on the Shelf Doll
• Baker’s Twine (we have used Christmas Twine with Elf many times)
• Needle
• Mini Marshmallows
• Optional: Measuring tape

Instructions

It’s so easy to make marshmallow twine. The two things to warn you about are the time (perhaps put on a good Christmas movie while you craft) and the sharp needle. You need a sharp prick to go all the way through a miniature marshmallow so this Christmas craft might be best for older kids. Little kids can help by moving the marshmallow down the twine once it’s strung on and beyond the large needle.

To begin, thread a needle with Christmas Baker’s Twine. We used this red and white pattern. I cannot tell you how many times I use this roll with our Elf on the Shelf idea – it’s a good item to have on hand for Elf on the Shelf ideas.

You can go ahead and cut the length of string you want, start with five feet. You can also make more garland for the tree or fireplace mantle later.

Use your need and thread your first marshmallow all the way down to the end of the yarn. Tie off that first marshmallow the the others don’t fall off.

Continue to string more fluffy marshmallows onto your DIY garland. You can have the marshmallows touch, but we find a little bit of spacing kind of magical. Perhaps keep the marshmallows about one to three inches apart. Young children can help with spacing.

Once you have all your marshmallows trung, hang your DIY marshmallow garland on the Christmas tree or Christmas mantle. Turn your entire home into an indoor winter wonderland aka marshmallow world.

You can replace your marshmallows with other items or even combine items to make a fun pattern. Wouldn’t that be a nice Christmas toddler idea.

Directions

Print the Elf on the Shelf Movie Night printable cards on paper (or card stock) and cut out each card along the border.

To create a sign for the Elf to hold, hot glue the card to the top of a paper straw. You can also attach the cards to the front of the popcorn containers with tape.

Add the microwave popcorn and movie candy to the inside of the popcorn containers.

Viola. You have staged a quick and easy Elf idea. I bet that Elf idea took under 5 minutes.

Are you ready for a silly Elf on the Shelf idea? Elf on the Shelf pranks are fun and this one is rather silly and only takes a few minutes to put together.

Supplies

• The Elf on the Shelf Doll
• Red Bull
• Straws
• Mounting Putty or Double Sided Tape

It’s easy to set up this Elf on the Shelf eye idea. It’s also a great Elf idea for older kids. Use double sided tape or mounting putty and add it to the back of your googly eyes. I kind of like this Googly Eye Set as it has multiple sizes of eyes and I think that would make a funny Elf on the Shelf idea.

Attach your eyes to the Elf doll. You can prop your Elf dolls to sit, sorta stand or use an Elf on the Shelf stand.

Open a Red Bull (or energy drink) and insert straws.

Viola, this was a quick and easy elf idea.

If you love Elf on the Shelf pranks, we have good news. It’s quick and easy to pull this Scout Elf on a Shelf milk idea together.

Let’s get ready to turn that sour milk into a bad guy…

Supplies

• The Elf on the Shelf Doll
• Milk
• Winter Hat
• Fabric
• Permanent markers
• Cardstock or paper (this is the best cardstock which is perfect for your Elf printables)
• Twine (we have used Christmas Twine with Elf many times)
• Tape (masking or washi is great)

Instructions

This idea is really quick and easy to implement. First on paper, write the note “help us! The milk has gone bad.” Alternatively, you can use a few Elf on the Shelf jokes about milk (see above.)

Next, use a permeant marker to draw a funny bad face on the milk. You can copy ours. We were thinking ugly jack-o-lantern type look.

Insert your milk on the refrigerator shelf. Wrap fabric around the galloon jug to look like clothing. Then insert a cap for a milk jug hat.

Add your note.

Next tie up your Elf on the Shelf doll(s) to look like the milk did something naughty to Elf on the Shelf.

You can add washi tape or masking tape to cover the elves mouth.

Insert your elfs in the fridge and you’re done.

Funny Egg Sheeran Idea

Want a funny Elf on the Shelf idea. We have it. Your child must understand who Ed Sheeran is.

Supplies

• The Elf on the Shelf Doll
• Eggs
• Googly Eyes (see Elf on the Shelf Googly Eyes Ideas)
• Orange yarn
• School glue
• Paper Guitar (find clipart on Google)
• Markers
• Cardstock or paper (this is the best cardstock which is perfect for your Elf printables)

Instructions

First find clip art of a guitar on the internet. Print and cut out your guitar.

Using a carton of eggs, add a smile to an egg with a marker.

Add a two dots of glue to the egg and lay the eyes on your egg.

Add more glue to the top of the egg and add some cut orange yarn for hair.

Gently display your egg beside the Elf on the Shelf in the refrigerator.

Using markers, write the message “chill’n with egg Sheeran.” You can write chill’n a few different ways including chilling or chillin.

The pun is it’s a cold environment, so you are chilling. Second, Ed Sheeran with a play on egg – just in case we needed to explain!

Don’t walk the plank. Be prepared with the Elf on the Shelf pirate idea. To put together a cute pirate idea with your Elf on the Shelf doll, gather the following supplies.

Supplies

• The Elf on the Shelf Doll
• Chocolate coins for booty (these can be hard to find, try the Dollar Tree, CVS, Walmart or here.)
• Paper
• Pen or marker
• Optional: printable Elf pirate clothes
• Optional: Elf treasure hunt

Instructions

To put together this Pirate Elf on the Shelf idea, printable your printable pirate outfit. Use tape or sticky velcro to put it together. Push pins are also helpful.

If you have 12 inch doll pirate accessories, gather them together. Don’t stress if not. Avast ye mamas… really all you need are gold coins and your Elf doll.

Hide some gold coins in the house. If you are doing this for a younger child, write clues of where your child can locate the coins. If it’s for older coins, let them tear apart the house as they try to find the most chocolate coins.

Write a note listing how many coins you hid. We wrote the pirate elf note, “treasure hunt: can you find all 14?”

Yes, the Christmas Elf can get stick. There are a few illnesses Elf might have…

• Reindeer Flu
• Christmas Pox
• Covid (might need Elf on the Shelf quarantine)
• Touch-idous (when Elf is touched)

When this happens, elf might need to sit out two days or recieve get-well magic delivered. These illnesses can be cured with a prescription from doctor Elf, a sick Elf note, your child doing a good dead for Elf, or a little bit of Christmas magic – aka glitter or cinnamon dust.

• Pen or Marker

Instructions

For this easy Elf idea, sit your Elf on the Shelf in a medicine cabinet, the bathroom or an open space.

Add a few rainbow dot stickers to look like Christmas pox illness.

Using a pen or marker, write a Elf on the Shelf sick note… “I have Christmas pox. Be careful, I’m contagious.”

What is Elf on the Shelf?

Elf on the Shelf is a popular Christmas tradition. The tradition has a book and a elf doll. The book is poetic and in rhyme sharing the purpose of the Elf’s visits. The Elf visits each Thanksgiving. He/She goes and returns from the North Pole each evening. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. The Elf has been found in the refrigerator, fishing in the toilet, writing messages on the mirror or hanging from the lights. It is VERY IMPORTANT, the Elf is not touch each evening or his Christmas magic will be lost! Each family is able to name their special elf. The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve. An Elf’s Story can also be found on DVD.
