Elf on the Shelf Ideas | Elf Hammock

We are back, so is the Elf! If you have been with us a long time, you know we have brought you a new Elf on the Shelf Ideas EVERY DAY (in November and December) for the past four years

Elf Hammock! This hammock idea was a pretty cute greeting when the kids brushed their teeth in the morning. We hung some toilet paper from a towel rack and laid elf in a relaxing potion, just like a hammock. It was easy, quick, and best of all – stress free! (Can’t you tell, doesn’t elf look relaxed? I bet mom was too last night!)

Supplies Needed:

  • Elf on the Shelf
  • Toilet Paper

We love sharing FREEBIES! Print this FREE Elf Twister Board by entering your email address below. It will arrive in your inbox!

Here at Frugal Coupon Living, we celebrate Elf on the Shelf for 2 months, the month of November and the month of December all the way through Christmas Eve. We like to share a few weeks leading up to Thanksgiving, when Elf comes, to give you idea and then we like to join you with ideas when the Elf arrives in your home.

Pin Pin Pin, because you will want to stay up to date on these ideas each Christmas season. We have many more ideas to come, see our previous Elf on the Shelf Ideas. Here we have a lot of FREE PRINTALBES!  That is our goal, to make Elf easy for you! Be sure to also follow the Elf on the Shelf Pinterest Board for fun ideas from other bloggers too.

What is Elf on the Shelf?

Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition. The tradition has a book and a elf doll. The book is poetic and in rhyme sharing the purpose of the Elf’s visits. The Elf visits each Thanksgiving. He/She goes and returns from the North Pole each evening. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. The Elf has been found in the refrigerator, fishing in the toilet, writing messages on the mirror or hanging from the lights. It is VERY IMPORTANT, the Elf is not touch each evening or his Christmas magic will be lost! Each family is able to name their special elf. The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve. An Elf’s Story can also be found on DVD.

Elf on the Shelf Ideas | Melted Snowman Cookies

We love bringing you new Elf on the Shelf Ideas. We also love sharing Christmas Food Crafts! That being said, we had to combine our two holiday loves into one – Elf on the Shelf Melted Snowman Cookies!

We wanted to make these cookies simple. We used refrigerated sugar cookie dough for our base. This is something to make with your kids, maybe cookies you use for Santa, or make them alone while the kids are in school. We made them alone since our kids still believe in Elf and then hid them that day. In the evening we took them out with a hair dryer as if Elf had melted the cookies. We used a Felt Letter Board to write the phrase – Whoops!

Melted Snowman Cookies Ingredients and Supplies:

  • Refrigerated sugar cookie dough

Frosting Ingredients:

  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract

Decorating Ingredients:

  • Marshmallows
  • 1 cup light cocoa candy melts
  • 1 cup vanilla frosting
  • Orange food coloring
  • Miniature M&M’s

Materials:

  • Baking pan
  • Parchment paper
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spoon

These cookies are fun to make with the kids, but it might be a good idea to make them while they are at school and hide them so that you can make this cute little Elf on the Shelf vignette.

Melted Snowman Cookies Directions:

First, preheat your oven to 350 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

You will want to form the cookie dough into ping pong sized balls, press partially down and place on the baking sheet.

Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.

When your cookies are out of the oven, let them cool and mix together your frosting.

To make your frosting, combine your powdered sugar, milk, corn syrup and almond extract until creamy.

Pour your frosting in a decorating bag and cut a small tip off the end. Use the decorating bag to draw a wavy circle on the cookie and fill in with frosting.

In a microwave safe bowl, heat the light cocoa candy melts on 50% power for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds until melted and poured into a decorating bag.

Also mix together 1 cup of vanilla frosting with orange food coloring and scoop into a decorating bag.

Use the brown and orange decorating bags to draw a face on the marshmallow.

For the snowman head, place the marshmallow onto the cookie towards the back of the cookie.

You will want buttons! Place two M&M’s onto the cookie in front of the marshmallow.

Use the brown decorating bag to draw stick arms on each side of the marshmallow.

Enjoy your Melted Snowman Cookies!

La Mer $170 verses Nivea Creme Cream $11!

Ladies gift yourself this creme! Call it your own stocking stuffer (you get early!)

I was in a Facebook group room this summer and everyone was giving their opinion on LA MER ($170+ face cream). The chat switched over to NIVEA CREME CREAM (the tin made in Germany) and how it was almost 90% similar in ingredients. Commenters swore by it. So of course I went to Amazon and did one of those “One click buys” and got the product 2 days later.

I gave it a try for a few weeks and I have now been using it nightly for almost 3 months (and I have SO MUCH LEFT!)

First, I was surprised how big the tin is. I mean like 5 inches across, about an inch and a half deep – that is more than any other night cream product I have gotten. The cream is pretty thick, but did not grease my skin. When I first put it on, I thought it would but within minutes, my feelings were otherwise. To see if i still agreed with myself (ha ha). I felt my face in the morning. It was soft and I would have been able to apply make-up without washing (only I don’t do that – wink!) It is affordable and the fact that you can get the German Tin (do not get the tin from Mexico – different ingredients) online made me happy.

If you want to take the test drive with me, try it out here.

La Mer vs Nivea

Again, get the Nivea Tin that is MADE IN GERMANY! Google it, there is even a lot on the internet about La Mer vs Nivea.

Homemade Edible Christmas Gifts.  Last minute gift ideas that do more than sit on the shelf, they fill your belly!

Edible Christmas Gifts

Edible Christmas Gifts

We love DIY Christmas Gifts.  However, often waiting to the last minute for gifts puts me in a place of purchasing and often that purchase is something not from the heart. My last minute gifts become, something I like to call, “Shelf Sitters”. Shelf sitters are gifts that take up room and don’t have a reason for use.  I had a lot of these during my years of teaching elementary school.

One of the gifts I always appreciated, especially on busy winter school days, was something that filled my belly during the day. If I was feeling extra nice, those gifts made it home to share with my family.  We found the tastiest recipes, some tried and true, for your Edible Christmas Gifts.  Take a look at these gift ideas that do more than sit on a shelf!
