Cute Pennant Flag Ideas for Christmas Elves

In the true spirit of Christmas, we’ve put together a few fun Christmas sign sayings. These Christmas quotes are turned into Elf flag props. Take a look at these short Christmas quotes as well as ideas on how to use them and the props needed to execute your idea.

First, you need to make your printable signs. Follow these simple instructions and you will have 12 Christmas pennant flags. Download your pennant flag file, which you will print on regular paper or white cardstock. I really like this pack of letter-sized Astrobrights white card stock. Using scissors or a paper trimmer, cut out the flag shape (two triangles attached.) Use a glue stick to attach the flags to a bamboo kitchen skewer (aka mini wooden dowel) and connect the end pieces. You also can use a small piece of scotch tape. You will have twelve different signs displayed as black and white Christmas pennant flags.

Now for the magic of the season! Using your Christmas sign flags and holiday elf doll, try some of these cute Christmas Pennant Flag ideas.

Attach these cards to green and red ribbons and hang them like Christmas banners. Have Elf holding the deck the halls decorative flag.

Materials: Deck of cards, yarn or string, tape, Elf

Peace on Earth

Idea: The true spirit of Christmas lies in peace… or peas. Let me explain. What if you play with this phrase? Pose the Elf on top of a globe (You can print a world from Google if you wish.)  You could even add a bag of peas, for peas on earth. Have Elf holding the sign.

Materials: Globe or printed world, peas, Elf

No Peaking

Idea: Put some newly wrapped Christmas presents under the tree. The kids will love the anticipation of what might be inside. Place Elf holding a “no peaking” sign.

Whether you want to play during a Christmas party or another holiday gathering, this guide will help you get started. Simply follow the steps and ideas below to plan your own holiday scavenger hunt that everyone will love.

What are some good Christmas Scavenger Hunt Ideas?

To add a bit more of the holiday spirit, here are a fun cute ideas that you can pick and choose from:

  • Have an Elf on the Shelf or Santa deliver the first clue.
  • Wrap the first clue as a present that’s opened on Christmas Eve.
  • Encourage your team to dress in festive holiday attire or an ugly Christmas sweater.
  • For every clue that’s solved, a team member gets to take a piece of Christmas candy or a holiday treat from the prize bowl.
  • Hide a small holiday-themed toy in with the final clue for the winner.
  • Have players carol or sing Christmas songs while they search.
  • Set up a cocoa bar to enjoy when the players find the last clue.

Now that you have all the tips and ideas for planning your own Christmas activity, let’s talk about some fun clues.

What are some clues for a scavenger hunt?

While a Christmas scavenger hunt checklist is fun (see some in our Christmas Traditions), having Christmas scavenger hunt clues is just a bit more fun. Kids will race around the house solving Christmas riddles. It just makes it more interactive and engaging.

printable christmas scavenger hunt clues cards

Take a look at some of these fun Christmas rhyming riddles we include as clue cards in our printable Christmas scavenger hunt.

Clue 1

Ready or not, this Christmas treasure hunt has begun. Find the first clue where the stockings are hung.

Clue 2

Christmas carolers sing beautifully in a choir. Go to the family car and look behind the tire.

Clue 3

Red and white stripes and a cool minty taste; these striped candies, they never go to waste!

Clue 4

To stay on Santa’s nice list, don’t be a grouch. You next clue can be found, under the cushion on the couch.

Plus sixteen more for a total of twenty Christmas clues for a scavenger hunt. You choose the order for your holiday fun.

What are good prizes for a Christmas scavenger hunt?

There are two ways to incorporate gifts or small trinkets with holiday scavenger hunt. You can have a gift with each new clue or keep a big gift, like a Christmas Eve Box, for the end of the treasure hunt.

christmas scavenger hunt ideas

Small Prizes

Small gifts are perfect for a scavenger hunt. You can have a small trinket for each scavenger hunt seeker. Christmas party favors or candy canes are perfect to place with each clue. Perhaps your small prizes can be placed together into something larger. For example, have all the ingredients and supplies needed to create a gingerbread house or cookies for Santa.

Christmas Eve Box

You might ask what’s in a Christmas Eve Box? A Christmas eve box is a gift given the day before Christmas. Often it contains Christmas pajamas, a Christmas movie, a Christmas book, hot chocolate and other night before Christmas ideas.

Christmas Presents

If you hold a Christmas scavenger hunt on Christmas morning, consider having a Christmas present with each new clue. This would make a fun Christmas morning activity for the kids and instead of the Christmas tradition of opening all the presents underneath the Christmas tree, you are moving around the house finding a new present with each clue card.

Elf on the Shelf

If you have an Elf doll, an Elf scavenger hunt is the perfect idea. Simply have your Elf on a Shelf bring the first clue and then let your kids hunt for the rest of the clues. You can use the Christmas scavenger hunt below or use a similar treasure hunt meant for an Elf on the Shelf scavenger hunt.

How to Plan a Christmas Scavenger Hunt

The first step in planning a Christmas scavenger hunt is printing a copy of the Christmas scavenger hunt clues. You can download the festive printable PDF here. It contains both clues & an answer key.

Once you have those printed out, you’ll cut them apart and choose which clues work before the the locations you want to include in your Christmas scavenger hunt. You can also make sure the fun last longer by making sure you include more cards.

The cards are Christmas themed with cute patterns and rhyming clues that will take players all through out the house looking for their next clue.

The second step is to place the clues around your house, yard or apartment. You can be as creative as you want with this part. You can make it easy by placing the clues in obvious places or get creative and hide them in harder to find spots.

If you’re hiding the clues inside, we recommend that you put them in locations that are safe and not too difficult to get to. You can also pair teens or older kids with younger children, so all hunters are on an equal playing field.

The third step is to gather your family or group of friends together and explain the rules of the game. You’ll want to go over how many people will be playing, what the goal of the game is and any other important details.

Once participants understand the rules, you’ll be ready to start the game. If you’re playing as a team, when all the clues are found, the team that has found the most clues wins the game.

If you’re playing as an individual, the first person to find all of the clues and make it back to the starting point is the winner. You can even set a stop watch or give a time limit and let each person run the clues one at a time.

No matter how you play, a Christmas scavenger hunt is a great way to get everyone in on the holiday fun.

With these simple steps, you’ll have everything you need to plan your own Christmas scavenger hunt.

Press Conference

how to play Press Conference game for adult party

How to Play: Press conference is a unique party game for adults that can be played with any size group, with hilarious results. One guest holds a press conference, and the other guests get to ask them questions.  Have that person leave the room. Everyone else decides on a character that this person will be in the “Press Conference.” (You could have a bowl of characters or decide together). The person holding the press conference answers the question, but the twist here is that they have no idea who they are supposed to be but the other guests do. The person has to try and figure out who they are from the questions that are asked by the group (while answering those questions!) For example, if Jim went out of the room and we chose for him to be Bugs Bunny, we could ask “How many carrots do you eat a day?” “What fuel do you use for your sleigh?” “How do you hide from Elmer Fudd?” “Do you feel very old?” “Who is your favorite Looney Tune?”

Supplies: None

Chocolate Game

how to play chocolate game for adult party

Supplies: Wrapped chocolate bar, oven mitts, hat, scarf, a knife, fork,  dice

How to Play: This game is hilarious for an adult party, and you only need a few items to play. You need a wrapped chocolate bar, some oven mitts, a hat, a scarf, a knife, a fork, and a single dice. Going around a circle, each person gets a chance to roll the dice trying to get a six. When a player rolls a six they will put on the hat, scarf, and mitts and attempt to cut the chocolate with the knife and fork. Their turn ends when another player rolls a six when it will be their turn to take over. The game is over when all of the chocolate is gone!

Story Starters

how to play story starters for adult party

How to Play: This party game for adults works best in groups of 4 to 6 people so if you have a large gathering, break your number of players up into groups. The idea is to give each group a piece of paper with a story starting sentence, and then have each person add one sentence to the story. You never know what kind of hilarious story you will end up with at the end.

Some story starting sentences you might use include:

“Once upon a time, I…”
“The dumbest thing I ever did was…”
“My perfect vacation would be…”
“My favorite place to visit was…”
“The dumbest thing I ever did was…”
“If I could be anything it would be…”
“The craziest thing I have ever done is…”
“If my life were a book, I would title it…”

Supplies: Paper, pen, pencil

Don’t Say Yes

how to play don't say yes game for adult party

Carnival games are a great way to add some excitement to any party. Whether you’re throwing a birthday party, a block party, or just a fun get-together, carnival games are always a hit. And the best part is, they’re easy to put together! By putting your own spin on classic carnival games, you can create an unforgettable party that your guests will be talking about for years to come.

Get started planning your carnival party today with these amazing tips.

How do you plan a carnival party?

Planning a carnival themed party is actually a lot of fun, but there are some things you’ll want to consider BEFORE you have the party. The budget is always important. Most people don’t think a carnival party can be affordable. It actually can be with the right planning and prep ahead of time.

When it comes to a circus themed party, plan the venue space, your party decorations, the number of guests, types of carnival booths, and of course your entertainment. Don’t worry, I have plenty of carnival birthday party ideas to share with you soon. Here is how to plan and affordable circus party that is a ton of fun for your birthday guy or gal!

Carnival Party Theme Ideas

Circus Carnival Party Ideas

Before we begin with the party entertainment, let’s chat about the party organization. When planning a circus party, there are a few things you need to get in place before the fun and games.  Make sure you have the right circus party invite, create a list of carnival party food, and choose the best location for a carnival birthday party.

In this day and age, I especially appreciate an Evite to keep record of who is coming or a digital carnival birthday party invitation.

Choose the Location

If you’re having the party outdoors, you’ll want to make sure you have enough space for all of your games and activities. If you’re having the party indoors, choose a location that has high ceilings so you can hang decorations from the ceiling and have enough room for balls to be thrown and party booths to fit.

In this set, we’ve given you guides where to place the eyes and mouth. Take a look at these options for how to make them pop!

  • Use Googly Eyes where the eyes go for a 3-D Pop (I personally like this set of wiggle eyes where there are googly eyes of different sizes and colors)
  • Print a second set of the Halloween handprint prints and allow your child to decorate the eyes and mouth. After the hand print dries, cut out the decorated eyes and mouth. Glue and lay on top of the dried handprint.
  • If creating an item with different colors, do this in two steps. For example, paint the palm one color and place on the printable sheet. Once dry, place the finger and apply to the printed sheet. This allows you to add multiple colors without the smudge.

When putting together this Halloween Arts & Crafts, use washable Tempera paint. Print on white cardstock for the best turn out.

huge list of holiday party games for the entire year

Activities during a holiday season are part of tradition. Most everyone can claim a busy calendar filled with parties and activities during a holiday season. Bringing together low-cost party entertainment can be a bit of a challenge. Entertainment can feel quite costly and often absorbs most of the party budget. However, having a good time is actually quite affordable and planning for a holiday party can be just as fun as the actual party itself.

If you are on a party planning committee of one or part of a group of people to host a party, this blog post is for you! Spice up your next get-together with these fun party games and activities. Learn how to take simple party games and ideas and turn them into amazing holiday party games for adults or DIY party games for kids with just a simple twist of the theme and/or directions.

What games are usually played at a party?

It’s not too complicated to come up with games for a party. There are many classic games that have been played at your earliest party memories. However, if you want guests to have a ridiculously fun time, it’s important to come up with traditional party games only offering a twist. This makes a common game into a fun game you’ve probably never played before.

Good party game ideas incorporate everyone, create ice breakers and bonding amoung teammates and offer a little bit of friendly competition.  Good games create banter, laughter, and innocent fun.

A few games that are good for a party include…

  • Twister

  • Charades

  • Truth or Dare

  • Pin the Tail on the Donkey

  • Musical Chairs

  • Pictionary

  • Trivia

  • Bingo

  • Piñata

However, the rules of everyone one of these common games can be used to turn into a new unique game you’ve never played before. When you take a good party game and turn it into something of your own, it creates a memorable time for party guests. Positive memories mean good times.

Now that we know of these fun party activities, let’s learn how we can turn them into incredibly awesome holiday party games for the entire year and any occasion and age group.

What makes a good party game?

A good game usually fits a themed party. Whether your hosting a holiday party, birthday party, or office party, create group games based on your party theme. Instead of reinventing the wheel, start with many of your classic and traditional games and add fun flare based on the type of party you are having. Next, consider your audience and their skill level and go from there. Many children’s games can be used for young kids or adapted into hilarious party games for adults who like to have fun!

It’s easy to create a good party game when you start with a simple game and gift it a twist. For example, if you are hosting a Christmas party, turn a limbo game into Santa Belly Limbo. Have participants wear a Santa hat, ugly sweaters and put a “Santa belly” under their shirt using a balloon (or pillows.) Use a roll of wrapping paper as a limbo stick and continue to follow the rules of Limbo, lowering the roll of gift wrap the game until you have one winner remaining. You turned a dull game into a perfect game for Christmas.

Classic Party Games

the best holiday party games

Let’s start by taking a look at these fun traditional party games. The goal is to take these classic games and turn them into something themed.

Scavenger Hunts

A scavenger hunt is a game in which a list of items or places are discovered. A scavenger hunt can use a checklist, where each item is crossed off the list when found or it can include a series of clues in which contests race to solve and discover new clues. Scavenger hunts are often holiday themed and can also be called treasure hunts as the end of the journey usually includes a price. Host scavenger hunts in teams of two, in groups, or as individual players playing against a clock.

Holiday Trivia

How did we even play trivia before the days of Google. Let’s all take a minute and thank Google for all if it’s factual knowledge. Whatever the occasion, begin to research your trivia. Take your theme and Google search (insert holiday name) trivia. Immediately, you can declare your self an expert in such and such holiday. If hosting a holiday party about a a particular someone, frame all the quiz questions around them. Drill them with questions before the event and find out who knows them best. Chances are every party as a certain hot shot that can’t wait to be called the trivia master.

Bingo

We know B-I-N-G-O is more than a dog. Bingo is a quick and easy game to unload a bunch of prizes. They are excellent for kids party games or can be use for adults too. For example, use these free Bingo Cards. Print and play. If hosting a party for kids, have a bunch of fun trinkets and party favors. Not only does it fill the party with plenty of positive energy, it keeps the kids occupied. If hosting a party for adults. consider mini cocktail bottles as party favors. They can be the catalyst or start to your drinking party games for later in the evening.

Charades

Charades can be played with any type of word or phrase. Words (and phrases) are placed on a card and drawn blindly from a hat or bag. A person from each team goes to the front of the room to act out the phrase while their teammates try to guess what they are silently acting out. There are two sets of rules for charades games. The game of charades tends to be funnier as the party goes on.

Pass the Gift

Pass the gift or pass the parcel is a great party game for teens, kids and even adults. There are many times of party games where a gift is passed along. This can include a white elephant gift exchange game. This game is usually played with dice and directions are given based on the number rolled on the dice. At the end of the game, each person goes home with a fun present. You can also play pass the parcel where small presents are on different layers of a gift wrapped in wrapping paper or cling film plastic wrap. You can insert small themed party favors, gift cards, trinkets and more.  Choose the layers to have themed goodies fitting for the holiday party you are throwing.

Board Games

When bringing board games to a holiday party, you need to consider the amount of guests that are invited. Board games are often limited by players. You can always extend the amount of players that can play by grouping up players. You also can host board games at various tables and locations in your home (or holiday party venue location.) A list of creative-thinking good board games for a party include Taboo, Scattergories, Jenga, Ticket to Ride, Clue, Apples to Apples, Chutes and Ladders, Uno, or Cranium.

Also take a look at our list of Family Game Night Game Ideas.

Lets look at some of these traditional party activities and turn them into party games for indoor and outdoor parties. With a bit of a twist, let’s make create them into holiday activities that will have guests engaged and having fun. Keep the good times rolling with these crowd-pleasing activities for a any year-round holiday gathering.
