Take a breath. Your dog ate Elf on the Shelf and now you need a solution. I am here to tell you, we can have this dilemma fixed in just a few short minutes. Read on about What to do if the dog eats the Elf on the Shelf.

dog eats elf on the shelf

Chances are that you are here because you are in a panic. I get it. Your dog has mauled the Elf on the Shelf and now your Elf doll is missing a leg, or worse his head. If you are in a situation, similar to this, here are the things you should do if your Dog eats the Elf on the Shelf.

My Dog Ate Elf on the Shelf

First, take a breath. I am here to tell you that there are quick and easy solutions to the family dog eating Elf on the Shelf. Let me give you a quick list and then we can go over them in greater detail.

  • Have Elf send vacation Postcards while he/she is away
  • If your child witnessed this calamity, hide your stress, go to the kitchen draw and pull out the Magic Elf Grippers
  • If the wound is superficial, wrap the wound in gauze and set Elf up with a prescription doctor’s note
  • Quickly reach out to the Facebook community and ask your friends for a temporary Elf
  • Go on Amazon and overnight ship an Elf doll (order two, you have a naughty dog!)

Vacation Postcards

Elf on the shelf postcards

The quickest thing you can do is print out Elf Vacation Postcards. This doesn’t halt the Elf fun, it just sends Elf on a trip around the world for four fun days. Each day your child will receive a postcard from Hawaii, Paris, New York and Africa. Each postcard has a hidden Elf so your child can enjoy the fun and the Elf antics don’t stop. Pls you might enjoy these 4 days off (that sounds like a win!)

Magic Elf Grippers for Moving Elf

how to move elf on the shelf

The horror! Okay, your child witnessed this horrific accident and now your Elf is on the floor. Take a breather. Calmly go to the kitchen draw and grab your kitchen dogs. These are instant Magic Elf Grippers for moving the Elf on the Shelf. Your job has the Elf helper is to lay the Elf on the Shelf in a safe place. Do the best you can to place a Band-Aid on the Elf and tissue without touching the Elf (you’ve done worse mama, you can do this.) Maybe sprinkle some glitter too for magic healing. Tomorrow, your Elf antic is a nice tissue box bed and Elf Prescription. Quickly order a new Elf so it looks like Santa healed the Elf in a few days.

Elf Prescription

elf on the shelf doctor's note

If elf’s injuries are not too bad, you can wrap gauze around the wound and bring a special doctors note.  Have Scout Elf sit for two days with an Elf on the Shelf Prescription. If the wound is really bad, you can still do this. Have Barbie sit has a nurse manager and watch Elf carefully. She can even bring a note that Elf is in “surgery on his left arm” (or whatever the place) if he disappears a day. Just replace Elf in a few days time after the new Elf arrives. Then the North Pole magic healed and fixed your Elf back to normal.

Facebook Help

After your heart rate has slowed, go to the Facebook community. Do you know how many elves are still on the shelf (…in a box, in a deep, dark hidden closet…) of your friends. Join your community of friends, first to offer laughter and sympathy, second to possible offer their own Elf. They are done and their Elf has retired.

Overnight an Elf on the Shelf

Hopefully by this point you are not too many glasses into a bottle of wine. Like me, maybe instead of alcohol warm chocolate chip cookies have settled your nerves. Now, go online and get an Elf on the Shelf shipped to your home ASAP. Overnight if needed. That mama with the retired Elf doll, might want it back for her grandkids. It’s not a bad idea for you to have two elves on hand (another as a backup) should this be typical behavior of your chewer!

Elf Pets Elf on the Shelf Ideas

And what better way to end this mess, than have Elf on the Shelf eating dog food or dog treats  in a few days time. It’s his way at getting back at this pups naughty behavior.

For a silly little joke, put a Grinch toy and the dog (or a photo of the dog) both in time out as a future idea. A little naughty Elf on the Shelf fun to get back at Fido.

You can see more Elf on the Shelf Pet ideas too.

What is Elf on the Shelf?

Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition. The tradition has a book and a elf doll. The book is poetic and in rhyme sharing the purpose of the Elf’s visits. The Elf visits each Thanksgiving. He/She goes and returns from the North Pole each evening. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. The Elf has been found in the refrigerator, fishing in the toilet, writing messages on the mirror or hanging from the lights. It is VERY IMPORTANT, the Elf is not touch each evening or his Christmas magic will be lost! Each family is able to name their special elf. The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve. An Elf’s Story can also be found on DVD.

Tips for making the best southern peach sweet tea: Make sure you crush the peaches while stirring them in the pot and add the sugar while the syrup is hot. This helps the sugar dissolve well and creates a sweeter tea. Also, the secret ingredient is adding a pinch of baking soda while you’re brewing the black tea bags.

FAQ’s:

Why add the baking soda?

This secret ingredient actually helps reduce the bitter flavor (the tannens) from the tea bags, helping create a smoother, slightly less bitter end product.

What is Sonic sweet tea sweetened with?

They offer 2 options. A Sonic sweet tea that has a sugar syrup base, or a sugar free option that is sweetened with Splenda.

Is Sonic tea brewed?

Yes. Their teas, whether they are black tea or green tea, are brewed fresh daily.

How many tea bags do you use for a gallon of sweet tea?

That can depend on the quality of tea you’re using, how strong you want it, etc. The recommended amount varies but it is approximately eight to ten single cup tea bags or three to four family size tea bags.

How much sugar does Sonic put in their sweet tea?

A medium-sized sweet tea has about 45 grams of sugar.

What is the difference between sweet tea and sweetened tea?

There is not much difference. Sweet tea is typically brewed with sugar then has more sugar added to it, creating a slightly sweeter tea. Sweetened tea is usually just sweetened after it has been brewed and taken off the heat.

Next, make a small crown to create your DIY Elf clown hair. First we made a circle with a pipe cleaner the circumference of Elf’s head. Then we added three bible cleaners around this hat (folding down his red elf hat.) This gave us a base for our DIY clown hair.

Once your clown hair crown is on elf’s hat, begin to attach your spiral pipe cleaners.

Attach a small square of double side tape on Elf’s nose, you can cut down to keep it from being unseen.

Attach a red pom pom for a clown nose.

Love Shack Valentine Gingerbread House

Love shack, baby love shack!

Don’t toss that Christmas Gingerbread House Kit! Whether you are headin’ down the Atlanta highway or nesting in the coziness of your own home, we have the most adorable DIY Valentine Gingerbread House. We were inspired by Wilton’s Valentine Gingerbread House.

If it’s the end of Christmas, don’t toss that Gingerbread kit. I have done that. December 25th rolled around, we never made our gingerbread house and my first though was “this won’t make it until next year!” Well the truth is, it will. It will make it to February of next year with the creation of a Love Shack Gingerbread House for Valentine’s Day.

Frost the three triangles sides and stick them onto the frost and back of the roof.

Use the star decorating tip to make a ruffled border on all the edges and top with sprinkles.

If you want, this is a good time to set your house in the refrigerator.

When then decorated our house. You can follow our steps.

Use the frosting to stick a heart gummy to the front and back of the love shack.

Use the mini Starburst to make a path to the love shack by sticking them to the cake platter.

Frost your roof and tile it using the mini Starburst.

Fill in the triangles with frosting and coat with candy heart sprinkles.

Finally, use M&M’s for decorating the edges of the house.

Tips for Decorating your Gingerbread House

The easiest way is to make sure you allow enough time for the icing to set up on the graham cracker until hardened so your structure is sturdy before you start decorating with the candy pieces. It is important to follow the directions in the steps laid out above.

Also, if you decide to bake your own gingerbread house pieces, make sure you bake them on parchment paper. And mix up a royal icing recipe to use as the walls and roof will be heavier.

Another great tip! If you decide to bake your own walls and roof pieces, you can choose lighter colored walls by using light corn syrup and light brown sugar, or darker walls by using darker corn syrup and dark brown sugar.

FAQs

Are you supposed to eat a gingerbread house after you build it?

Definitely! That’s part of the fun. Knowing you can dig into the house all at once or enjoy a few pieces over time until the gingerbread house candy is gone. You can even start in on the gingerbread houses walls and eat those as well. These sweet treats are made to be consumed and contain only edible materials.

What do gingerbread houses symbolize?

Typically, they symbolize the Christmas holiday. Ginger was first used in making ginger snap cookies and these cookies began as a tool for artistic talent and creativity. They were decorated with icing and eventually candy. Over time the gingerbread house tradition was born. Thus, making the house something not only artistic and fun, but also delicious to eat.

Is a gingerbread house religious?

Today not so much. It is associated with the religious Christmas holiday and is used in holiday decor but is not necessarily a religious practice. In the early days of using gingerbread, it was used in religious ceremonies because it was a hardy, firm cookie. Over time it has changed and nowadays, it is quite normal to create gingerbread houses for all types of non-religious holidays. Valentine’s day houses and Halloween houses are also being created.

What is National Gingerbread House Day?

It is a holiday celebrated yearly on the 12th of December. This celebration is two-fold: because gingerbread houses go hand-in-hand with the winter months and because it is the best time of year to enjoy gingerbread house festivals, competitions, the Christmas Holiday and special family time.

What is a paper chain countdown?

A paper chain countdown is a craft where a child can easily see “time fly.” it is made of paper rings attached together. Each ring represents a new day. As each day goes by, your child will have fun taking off a ring watching the chain get shorter until the day of the big event… in this case, Christmas day!

Elf on the Shelf Paper Chain Countdown to Christmas

In this fun countdown Elf on the Shelf idea, Elf brings a paper chain. Part of the paper chain is elevating Elf on the fan, the other part is a countdown to Christmas.

Supplies

  • The Elf on the Shelf Doll
  • Marker
  • Scissors
  • 9×12 Construction paper (various colored paper)
  • Tape
  • Optional: paper cutter

How do you make a paper countdown chain?

To make paper chains, start with one piece of construction paper.  Lay the paper vertical and cut a strip every 2 inches. This will give you a total of 6 pieces per sheet of 9×12 construction paper. Repeat for the next color.

You can decide how many paper strips to make. For our example, we used 15 to hang Elf on the Shelf from the ceiling fan and 3 to countdown the days until Christmas.

Being with the first loop. Connect two ends together and tape them to create a loop. Get the next strip and loop it through the first loop. Connect so two chains are connected. Repeat this pattern alternating colors until you have a chain length you are happy with.

Connect the top loop to the top of the fan with tape. Drape your chain over the blades. Carefully insert Elf into the bottom loop of your chain.

Next make the countdown part of your chain. Add numbers to count down the days. In our example, we started with one and counted down to 3 to create 3 days of chains to take off as your child count downs the days until Christmas.
