Edible OREO Acorns

We think these OREO Acorns will be a hit with your family this Fall! Not only are they delicious but, they’re fun to make! The kids will love to help with every step of this recipe. Did you know that Oreos took their flavors to a whole new level and added peanut butter? YUM! They may look intricate to make but, in just a few simple steps you will have a bowl of OREO acorns to nibble. Happy Fall!

Ingredients:

  • 1 package peanut butter Oreos
  • 1 8 oz. package cream cheese, softened
  • 12 oz Chocolate chips or Chocolate Candiquick chips
  • 6 oz Butterscotch or Peanut Butter chips
  • Brown Sprinkles
  • Pretzel Sticks

Directions:

  1. Allow the cream cheese to come to room temperature
  2. Put Oreos in the food processor and pulse until you have crumbs. You may need to split this into two batches depending on the size of your food processor.
  3. Once the cream cheese is softened, mix the Oreos and cream cheese together until well blended.
  4. Use a heaping tablespoon of the mixture to form into acorn shapes. To form, roll into an elongated ball, then pinch one end to make it slightly tapered. Place the acorns on a baking sheet with wax paper and place them in the freezer for 1 hour.
  5. After the acorns are hard, melt the chocolate. Dip each acorn into the chocolate with a fork. Tap the edge of the bowl to remove any excess chocolate – then place back on parchment paper. Continue until all acorns are dipped, and then allow them to come to room temperature to harden.
  6. Once the chocolate covered acorns are hardened, melt the butterscotch chips and pour brown sprinkles into a separate bowl.
  7. Dip the tops of each chocolate covered acorn into the butterscotch – then immediately dip into the sprinkles.
  8. Cut ½ inch pieces of the pretzel sticks. Dip the edge of each pretzel stick into the butterscotch and press into the top of each acorn. Return to baking sheet to allow the pretzels to set before serving.

Turkey Sugar Cookies (Pin it to Pinterest)

This recipe is the most simplistic. Make the attached sugar cookie recipe or grab a pre-made store brand. Use icing as glue and create decadent feathers with candy corn.

Turkey Nutter Butter Cookies (Pin it to Pinterest)

The most popular Thanksgiving Food Craft, the flexibility of this food craft is nice. How much you want to go with this cookie is up to you. You can have a stand up turkey or a lay down turkey instead.  Add left over Halloween candy to spruce up the design or keep it simplistic with icing and candy corn.

Rolo Pilgram Hats (Pin it to Pinterest)

On the show we made these with chocolate peanut butter cups but you can also do with caramel cups. Pick up store bought frosted fudge cookies and glue on the top of the hat to make the perfect little snack for your little Pilgrim.

Chocolate Covered Oreo Turkeys (Pin it to Pinterest)

This turkey craft is likely for experienced and steady of hands baker. Mix colors and create bright feathers on your Oreo Turkey using a pretzel as a template. Again, how little or how much of the activity and design you want to do is up to you.

Did you find out you were expecting twins? Don’t worry, me too! I have been there. Take a look at these inspiring Twin Tips and Tricks, turning your doubt and worry into “I’ve got this!”

Twin Tips and Tricks

How to Manage Twin Babies

The initial shock of knowing you’re having twins can be overwhelming.  Trust me, I know. You start researching, wondering how you will balance these two delicate lives. Twins are going to take everything one baby takes, but times two… Ahhh. It sounds crazy, but you will soon enough find a new norm. When annoucing our twins, I sought the advice of been there, dont that moms. Take a look at this VERY HELPFUL Facebook post of Twin Mom Advice.

Routine will save you

Just like any other baby, a routine is necessary for everyone’s sanity. You will literally find yourself scheduling every moment of your day, just to survive. Your twins will soon realize when feeding time is and when nap time is. Although newborns are on their own schedule, you all will fall into a family schedule. Soon, you will know when your twins are hungry, tired, or when they just want to nap. You can even write your schedule down if this helps save your sanity a little. With my first three, On Becoming Baby Wise was a lifesaver. I hear that Baby Wise is still a must with twins. ( I am in this Babywise Facebook Group and it has been so helpful!)

Get them used to sleeping close together

Your twins have just spent 40 weeks (more/less) in the womb together. It may seem crazy to put them in the same crib, but hear me out. You will want them to be on the same schedule in the long run. When one sleeps, you will want the other one to sleep. Even if you have older children who are a little noisy, your twins will learn how to sleep, even with the extra noise around. Sleeping together always seems to be the best bet when it comes to dealing with twin babies. The Graco Pack ‘n Play Playard with Twins Bassinet is a great deal. I also heard great things about the larger size JOOVY Room2 Twin Nursery Centerwhich fits perfectly in the JOOVY New Room2 Playard. Don’t forget a white noise sound machine is a must!

Learn how to feed your babies at the same time

It may feel like you want to lose your mind trying to feed your babies at the same time, but it’s all about routine and saving time. You will never get any rest if it takes each baby 45 minutes to eat. Think about everything you do for a single baby, only you’ll be doing this for two babies. It takes some time to get used to, but soon enough you will be a pro at these sorts of things. After many recommendations, I picked up this Twin Z Pillow for nursing my two – think football hold!

Don’t be afraid to ask for help

When you can get help with taking care of the twins, do so. Don’t turn down someone offering to help you. If you work outside of the home, you will need to start preparing for that. However, if you will be staying home, you will be able to get in a bit of a routine with your twins. You may even want to have a relative, parent, aunt, anyone come stay with you while you get settled with twins. Sharing the responsibility with twins is something you will want to do. Trying to do everything on your own will wear you down quickly.

You will need the hands (and tools)

Invest in a light weight stroller frame. Something that your car seats can snap into. You likely will not need a larger, jogging-type stroller until about the time that the babies are 6 months old. Yes, you might stay home 90% of the time, but there are doctors appointments, outdoor walks, and grocery runs. After it was recommended to us, we love the cost and efficiency of this Snap-N-Go Stroller Frame. Also consider a carrier (for both kids). The Twin Carrier has been sworn by for many twin moms.

You don’t need two of everything

Contrary to popular belief, having twins doesn’t mean you need two of everything. Instead, think of what you will only need one of. You don’t need to have matching everything for twin babies. In fact, you can rotate their clothing. Keep in mind that you can share many things between your twins.

Managing twin babies is going to take some work. However, your mama instinct will kick in and you’ll be a pro in no time. It takes a special mom to be a twin mama. If you are a yes person, reverse that yes into helping others and this time, don’t turn down genuine help from friends and family. You will need it and be most gracious!

Enjoy those twin babies.

Chocolate-Dipped Banana Bites with Peanut Butter

Banana Bites

I wanted to share with you one of my favorite recipes! This is a go to recipe for the kids and I and it is so easy, really just takes minutes. Sometimes we use the recipe with chocolate (the kids love that) but other times I sneak a few for myself in the freezer (without chocolate) and have a couple recovery bites after the gym! Each banana makes about 7 bites (14 slices) so you can multiply or reduce as you need. We are pretty obsessed with Jif Creamy Peanut Butter (I mean who isn’t) but also consider a natural peanut butter if you are watching your diet/sugar intake. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 3 Bananas (1 banana makes 7 bites)
  • 1 Cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 Cup creamy peanut butter
  • Decorating bag
  • Bamboo skewers

Banana Bites

Directions:

  1. Slice your bananas into 1/2″ pieces.
  2. Scoop your peanut butter into a decorating bag and cut the tip off the end.
  3. Frost the top of half of the banana with peanut butter and skewer another plain banana.
  4. Then skewer the peanut butter banana to sandwich the two together.
  5. In a small microwave safe bowl, heat your chocolate chips on 50% power for 2-3 minutes stirring every 30 seconds until melted.
  6. Hold the skewered banana bite, dip the side into the chocolate, place onto a piece of parchment paper, and into the freezer.
  7. After they’ve been in the freezer for 15 minutes they are ready to eat or you can keep them frozen for a treat later on.

Note: Also consider freezing these after you make them. I love them frozen (even without chocolate, they make a great after work0ut snack!)

Do you ever end up with Leftover Halloween Candy? Whether you have leftovers in November, leftover candy in March, or lets get real, Halloween Candy is gone by November 1st and you never have leftovers at all, we have the tastiest Candy Pizza Cookie for you! This recipe can be made with leftover Halloween candy or you can make it in October (if you do, be sure to add candy eyes for a fun Halloween monster effect – like the Monster Cupcakes!)  Using a sugar cookie dough, frosting, and everything but the kitchen sink when it comes to candy, this recipe is very quick to make. It only has 3 ingredients plus however many additional ingredients you need to decorate. Best of all, it something the kids can do on their own (once the sugar cookie is baked!)

Ingredients:

  • Pillsbury refrigerators sugar cookie dough
  • Pillsbury chocolate frosting
  • Leftover Halloween candy: gummy worms, black licorice, candy corn, whoppers, etc.
  • Sprinkles
  • 9″ springform pan
  • Butter

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350° and grease your 9 inch spring form pan with butter.
  2. Open it and break your cookie dough into five or six pieces in place in the bottom of your pan.
  3. Evenly press your sugar cookie dough into your pan and smooth out the edges with your fingertip.
  4. Bake for 17 minutes and let your giant cookie cool.
  5. After about 10 minutes of your cookie cooling you can open your springform pan and then let your cookie finish cooling.
  6. Spread about 3/4 cup of chocolate frosting onto your cookie.
  7. Cut your licorice and place onto your frosted cookie along with your other candies and sprinkles.
  8. Slice like a pizza and enjoy!

52 Weeks of Taco Tuesday Recipes

Taco Tuesday is HUGE in our home. In order to appease everyone (because I do have the one child that does not like Mexican) I try to diversify the menu.  Below is a list of 52 week of recipes completing a year of Taco Tuesday. Each recipe is unique so you shouldn’t have to worry about the family tiring of the same old taco recipe. I think one thing that makes our home Taco Tuesday enjoyable is switching it up. Have fun with these 52 weeks or recipes!
