Plastic Easter Egg Crafts. Want to put those plastic eggs to use for more than an Easter egg hunt this year? We’ve found lots of totally cute crafts with plastic eggs to make your home or classroom look fun and festive for Easter!

Crafts with Plastic Easter Eggs

Easter will be here soon, and before you know it, you’ll be loading up your shopping cart with plastic eggs for school parties, church egg hunts, and for your kids’ Easter baskets. But if you’re only using these eggs for baskets and egg hunts, you’re missing out! They’re incredibly inexpensive, and they’re perfect for making lots of springtime crafts.

Whether you’re looking for a gorgeous wreath to hang on the door for Easter, a way to spruce up an ordinary plastic egg to make it more fun, or a learning activity to do with tots and preschoolers, you’re going to find some amazing ideas in this list.

Cute Crafts with Plastic Eggs

An egg wreath is perfect for spring. Although the eggs were painted here (and they’re stunning with the varying shades of blues and oranges), you could simply leave them unpainted as well. It’ll look gorgeous either way. You’ll love seeing this every day when you come home! | One Thousand Oaks

Homemade Lightning Bugs

Use a flameless tea light, create a DIY firefly that really lights up. This Summer craft idea for kids is perfect for small hands and makes a cute handmade night light for their bedside. | Frugal Coupon Living

Here’s another stunning wreath that combines florals and Easter eggs. You’ll need an ombre Easter egg pack for this craft, which is varying shades of the same color, from light to dark. Don’t all those pinks look lovely together? It’ll look fantastic on your door or above your mantel. | Design Improvised

Hang this plastic egg globe over the dining table or above the door for the Easter season. This is an easy piece of decor that the kids can help with. | Chica Circle

Make some egg shaker maracas using plastic eggs, some plastic spoons, and a whole lot of washi tape. Kids will have a blast making noise with these! Try putting different materials in each egg to create lots of different sounds. | Happiness is Homemade

Glue the halves of the plastic eggs together to form mini planters. Fill them with tiny potted flowers, and you’ve got yourself a simple centerpiece that adds a lot of color to your Easter table. | Made with Happy

You could use the same idea of gluing the halves together to make these fun candy cups instead! | The Homespun Hydrangea

If you want to make a big splash at an Easter party, this spilled basket hat is a surefire way to do it. It would be loads of fun for an Easter parade or wacky hat day at school. | Where the Smiles Have Been

Add some teacups to your kid’s collection of toy dishes. Easter egg cups with paper clip handles are the perfect size for little hands. Of course, a tea party is in order when you’ve made them! | Morena’s Corner

Use the eggs to make a beautiful birds nest craft for a bird-themed learning unit. You can create bluejays, cardinals, baby chicks, and lots of other types of birds just by changing out the egg color. | The Inspiration Edit

Speaking of chicks, here’s an adorable version that stands up! They’ll look super cute on your mantle or table for Easter. | Fireflies and Mud Pies

You’ll have a whale of a time making this plastic egg whale. This craft would be a wonderful addition to an ocean animal unit for preschoolers! | Artsy Craftsy Mom

Turn plastic eggs into a whimsical spring bouquet using floral wire and crepe paper. Not only is this a cute idea for Easter, but it would look gorgeous at a spring baby shower. You could also put a dollar in each egg and present it as a gift! | Design Improvised

If you’re planning a spring birthday party, save some of those eggs to make plastic egg cupcake decorations. Put flameless tealights under the egg to make them glow, or put some candy underneath as a surprise. | Chica Circle

Any fan of Pokemon will go nuts for these Pokeball themed eggs. They’re so easy to make with a few simple materials. You can skip the painting if you can find white and red eggs from the same manufacturer, but if you can’t, you’ll have a little painting to do before putting them together. (Also see our Pokemon Party Ideas) | Tikkido

An egg popper tree would be loads of fun for the kids if you’re hosting Easter brunch this year. It’s a fun alternative to the Easter egg hunt! Eggs are filled with surprises like candy, money, or trinkets, and then wrapped in crepe paper to make the poppers. If you string them properly, pulling on the egg will break it open like a mini pinata! | Studio DIY

You won’t be able to stop smiling at these beautiful pastel bees floating outside your window. You’ll want to leave them up all spring; they’re just that cute! Make sure you grab eggs with two holes in the bottom if you plan to make this craft. | Tried & True

Practice word families with your kiddo using plastic eggs. It’s so simple! Write the end of the word on one half, and rotate the other half to create several different words. This is a terrific way to reinforce sound patterns with little ones. | Natural Beach Living

Toddlers and preschoolers can use the eggs to practice letter matching. Write the capital letter on one half and the lowercase letter on the other. | Mom. Wife. Busy Life.

The aliens have landed! Kids will have a good giggle over these funny little alien eggs. They could also double as monster eggs if your kid is into monsters. | Artsy Craftsy Mom

Even More Plastic Egg Ideas

You know you’ll have loads of these when Easter comes around, so here are a few more things to do with them once Easter’s over!

  • Store homemade play dough or slime. Make sure you seal up any holes in the egg before using them to store either of these.
  • Practice counting with your toddler.
  • Practice color recognition.
  • Add them to sensory bins for kids to use as scoopers.
  • Store baby socks.
  • Put jewelry and trinkets in when traveling.
  • Store loose buttons.
  • Store screws, nuts, and bolts in the garage.

What are you going to do with your plastic eggs this year?

5-5-5 Method for Eggs

When cooking hard boiled eggs, some remember the 5-5-5 method. Five minutes of electric pressure cooker, five minutes of rest before opening the lid, five minutes of an ice water bath. (However, we did 20 minutes and they turned out perfectly. Consider me a perfectionist or maybe just truthfully a forgetful mother.) Both time worked perfect staying true with the 5-5-20 or 5-5-5 method.

Glow in the Dark Easter Egg Hunt at Night on Frugal Coupon Living. Using a flashlight or tealights, recreate this Easter Egg Hunt Idea outside your normal traditions.

Glow in the Dark Easter Egg Hunt at Night

Remember our  Easter Egg Dying Ideas for thinking outside the typical egg dye? This time we wanted to share with you a creative Easter Egg Hunt, a Glow in the Dark Easter Egg Hunt.

Updated for 2020: This year I will be doing this night time Easter egg hunt with my family since the kids can sleep in the next day. I will not be using tea lights but will be using flashlights. I will have the older kids hide the eggs and then draw a map. This will add time to their daily routine. I will have the younger kids be the hunters using the older kids as guides and using their map (even if the map is unnecessarily). They can all sleep in the next day!

To achieve this fun scavenger hunt for the kids at night, we place flameless tea lights inside of our Easter Eggs. You can fill the remaining space with tiny candy, like M&Ms or skittles, or you can have the kids trade in their flameless lights for a treat basket that you have. That way they get to choice a candy they like and you get back your tea lights!

They sell glow in the dark Easter eggs online, but we find they do not get as bright as eggs with lights inside. We picked up our eggs and flameless tea lights at the dollar store, that means you can pull this off for next to nothing and it’s a memorable way to enjoy Easter and create a new family tradition!

Tealights add up so there is another way to play this game/hunt, have a Flashlight Easter Egg hunt. You can keep the glow in the dark theme with the flameless tealights or you can have bright colored eggs to they stand out when a flashlight shines on them. Enjoy an evening searching for eggs in the dark. Make it challenging by hiding the eggs in places that are not seen well in the light (or in the dark) or make it not as challenging and just fun by having eggs that are easily found in the light but not as well in the dark.

When inviting others, ask people to bring their own flashlight. You can pay attention to when the sun sets in your area on the weather channel and then plan a start time approximately 20 minutes after the sun sets. If you kids go to bed early, perhaps move this flashlight Easter Egg hunt inside and shut all the blinds in your home. You could have your own flashlight Easter egg hunt in doors!

Afterwards, have fun making these glow in the dark eggs with this easy science experiment with the kids!

Supplies

  • 1 Roll Of Toilet Paper
  • 2 Sheets White Tissue Paper
  • 1 Sheet White Construction Paper
  • 1 Sheet Pink Construction Paper
  • 1 Black Marker
  • 2 Plastic Eyes (Dollar Tree as a whole bag for $1)
  • Hot Glue
  • 3 Cotton Balls

Directions

  1. Lay the two sheets of tissue paper flat on the table. One on top of the other.
  2. Set the roll of toilet paper in the center of the tissue paper with one hole at the top. Carefully tuck the ends of the tissue paper into the hole. Slowly work your way all the way around, until all the tissue paper is tucked in your bunny’s body.
  3. Now take your cotton balls and slightly pull them apart, so that they are nice and fluffy. Add three small dots of hot glue around the hole with all the tucked in tissue paper. Place the cotton balls on all three dots. This should now be covering the opening and creating the tail for the bunny.
  4. On the other end glue the plastic eyes about a half inch down form the edge of the roll.
  5. Cut out a few strips of white construction paper to make whiskers. Also cut out a oval shape nose from the pink constriction paper. Hot glue these at the center of the hole. Even with the opening being covered you will be able to slightly see it. Add a dot of hot glue and then lay the whiskers down first and then the nose.
  6. Take your black marker and draw a line under the nose making a J facing both ways.
  7. Last we need to make the ears. This can be a bit trickier and you can do it differnet that I have.
  8. Take the white construction paper and fold it in half. Then cut out a long oval shape that is flat at one end. By having your paper folded you sould end up with two ears after cutting. Fold them so that there is a cress down the center lenght ways. Now at the end of a slit about an in long. Then add a fold at the top of that slit. Fold the two pieces over. Then fold a fold at the top of that slit. Fold the two slit pices over each other, making somehting similar to the corner of a box. Tuck the ends of those pices up and down to lock them in place.
  9. Now on the top of the roll just above the eyes, glue an ear. Make sure that the boxed edge we made is facing the oppostie side of the eyes so you cannot see them when looking at the face.
  10. After they are glued in place carefully bend them over and glue them to the back end with a small dot of hot glue.

Display this adorable Happy Easter Printable in your home. Print this free 8×10 and frame this bunny with a bow during the spring season.

Happy Easter Printable

Do you hold any Easter traditions? While the story of Christ dying on the cross and rising on the third day is not new to my kids, it’s a good time to reflect on how truly miraculous our God is. Easter eggs and bunnies are fun, but there are other ways to instill Easter traditions with your kids. One of our very popular posts, is Christian Easter Crafts featuring Resurrection Eggs, Gardens, and Rolls. This post has some of the most crafty ways to tell the story of Jesus’s death and Resurrection, each providing the final story of an empty tomb.

When decorating around the house, we also wanted to provide you with something fun. I love having an 8×10 frame around the home that can easily be changed out with the seasons. Easter Bunny Tails Printable – Bag and Jar Topper

We LOVE Easter and enjoy giving treats to our friends, teachers and loved ones. Package up some of these puffy bunny tails (donut holes) and print a topper that is too cute for words! There are 2 ways to share these treats, in a mason jar with a decorated lid or in a ziploc bag, sealed with a paper topper. It’s just that simple to create an Easter goody! They are also a great Sunday School gift! Marshmallows would also be a delicious alternative to donut holes.

Tips: Our examples are printed on cream card stock. On the bag toppers, we folded our Ziploc Bag on top (underneath the label to shorten. We cut the circles out for the Mason Jars but a 3″ punch will work too. They would also be ADORABLE packaged in these Lavender Mason Jars!
