Having a birthday party on a budget isn’t always easy, but it’s possible! Finding low cost party ideas just takes a little time and effort. If you don’t have the time or even if you don’t want to put in the effort, then these tips are for you! Sacrifice on the wallet but not the fun!

cheap birthday party ideas low-cost party for kids and adults

Birthday celebrations can be expensive. But there are cheap and inexpensive ways to make an adults’ or kid’s birthday fun. These fun ideas are affordable and easy to set up for friends and family of any age.

I’m going to walk you through having a fun birthday party on the budget. From party ideas to activities, you will be able to put together an amazing party and all on a budget!

How to have a birthday party on a budget

Are you looking to celebrate a birthday but don’t want to spend a lot of money? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. According to a recent survey, the average person spends about $600 on their birthday celebrations. But there’s no need to break the bank just to have a good time.

Cheap birthday parties for those on a budget can still turn out great. You really just have to focus on the areas that you want to spend money on and the other areas you can do on a budget! For example, you may want to go all out on the cake, but save money on the gifts. With a little bit of creativity, you can still have a fantastic birthday party without blowing your budget.

Here are some tips for cheap birthday party ideas:

Set a budget and stick to it

This is probably the most important tip when it comes to having a child’s birthday party on a budget. Decide how much you’re willing or able to spend beforehand, and then make sure all of your decisions reflect that budget. Start with the item that is most important to you. One that you are not willing to spend less on. Start there and then start researching the rest of the party ideas.

Get creative with the guest list

Instead of inviting everyone you know, be selective about who you invite. You can still have a great time with fewer people in attendance. Plus, this will allow you to focus your spending on making sure those who do attend have an amazing time. The individuals that were not invited to this party can be guests for another occasion.

DIY as much as possible

Another great way to save money is by doing things yourself instead of hiring someone else to do them for you. For example, if you’re good at baking, why not make your own cake instead of buying one? Or if you’re crafty, you could make your own invitations or decorations instead of buying them from a store. Pinterest and bloggers provide a lot of ideas for DIY party favors, printable banners, and even low-cost themed birthday party ideas.

Think outside the box when it comes to activities

Just because there’s no money for entertainment doesn’t mean your guests will be bored. There are plenty of fun games and activities that don’t cost anything to play. For example, charades, scavenger hunts, karaoke and printable themed party games are all great options that are sure to keep your guests happy and entertained.

Save on the Venue

In addition to thinking outside the box for birthday party activities, also think outside the box for the party room. Public, national, and local parks are often affordable places. Think of all the places friends have had parties. Now cross those ideas off. Why, because they are popular and popular means there is an up charge in cost – supply vs demand.  This past year, we found a small fish tank aquarium. It had an outdoor place for the kids to play and it might have been the best, most affordable party we ever had. Parents raved about the venue and no one had every been there before. By finding something that was not “common” we saved a lot. If the venue place is still too much, have a party at your home or in your backyard.

Having a birthday party on a budget is totally possible, you just need to get creative! By following these low-cost party tips, you can throw an amazing bash without breaking the bank in the process!

What activities do children like to do on their birthdays?

Still looking for inexpensive birthday party ideas? Birthdays are a special time for kids. It’s a day when they get to feel extra special and loved. Having a few family-only birthday traditions are a great way to recognize the guest of honor. If you’re looking for some fun ideas to make your child’s birthday even more special, look no further!

Here are some great low cost party ideas for celebrating birthdays with kids. Create these fun birthday ideas with a party of two to a party of 30!

Have a picnic lunch

Get some yummy food and drinks and have a picnic lunch outside! This is a great way to enjoy the nice weather and have some quality time with your child. Find a unique place to eat like on top of a big rock in the middle of a creek or downtown in the city with tall buildings.

Make a cake

Let your child help you make their birthday cake! Make your own DIY cake mix or pick up a boxed mix. They’ll love being able to help out and will be so excited to eat their creation. You can even let them make their own miniature cake (or cupcake) and have a larger cake for the family to share. This can be done with themed party food or party snacks too.

Go on a nature walk

Get your hands dirty and plant a garden together. This is a great activity for kids who love being outside. Plus, you’ll end up with some fresh produce too!

Make crafts

Craft time is always fun, especially when you get to make something cool with your own two hands! There are tons of easy craft projects that kids will love. Hit the dollar section at Target, Michael’s or even the Dollar Tree for a few low-cost party craft ideas.

A classic birthday treat! Kids will love being able to pick out their favorite flavor and topping combination. Plus, it’s a great way to cool down on a hot day. Make your very own ice cream party shop.

Kids Party Games

I mentioned earlier, saving money on the things you can. Decide what’s most important to you, then save on the rest. Having a birthday party allows your child to feel important. It puts them at the center of attention.  The goal is a fun birthday party that gives your child self affirmation and positive feelings of oneself.

Now that you have honored your child with the special occasion, honor your guests with fun. One of the most expensive items for birthday parties, is the entertainment. Make a Good First Impression

The first stop on the home staging checklist is to make a good impression. Start in a room and take a slow look around. For example, this includes things like checking the door entrance to ensure the door doesn’t have any damage, painting the front door, and making sure the doorbell works and so on. Make sure you check out these home staging ideas to make your home staging process so much easier.

Take a look at your…

  • Front Porch
  • Garage
  • Foyer
  • Living Room
  • Bedrooms
  • Dining Room
  • Home Office
  • Master Bedroom
  • Bedrooms
  • Bathrooms
  • Closests

Walk through each of these spaces and and take a look around as if seeing it for the first time. A friend can come in hand with this process. Real estate agents will often do a walk through with home sellers, as well. They want top dollar and a successful home sale too!

Do the Repairs

The next part of the home staging checklist includes doing the repairs. This may be the hardest part to get motivated to do, but it’s worth it! Do your best to accomplish DIY tasks. Eliminate the home staging services and save the harder tasks for a handyman.

  • Use Mr. Clean eraser to eliminate stains on the wall, stairs, sinks, tubs, etc
  • Paint walls and touch up scratches
  • Replace bad lights in light fixtures
  • Replace personal photos with discounted artwork

Buyers don’t want to see things like leaky faucets, cracked tiles, or damaged walls. Fixing these things can make a big difference in the appearance of your home and can potentially increase its value.

Depersonalize the Space

When potential buyers come to look at the house, they want to envision themselves living there. This can be difficult if your space is filled with personal items like family photos or memorabilia. Part of the home staging checklist involves depersonalizing the space by removing these items and creating a more neutral, inviting atmosphere.

What is the 3 foot 5 foot rule in home staging?

The best elf pranks

Coming up with new Elf on the Shelf prank ideas looks different for every family. Just like families, elves differ. They can have different personalities, they can come in sets of one or more, they can even look differently.  Elf differences are especially true when it comes to an Elf’s personality. An Elf on the Shelf can be naughty or nice (or a little bit of both!)

Is the Elf on the Shelf Naughty or Nice?

Let’s be real. The Elf on the Shelf promotes nice behavior from your son or daughter but sometimes the Elf on the Shelf’s antics can be quite naughty. From an Elf mess to an Elf wrapped in toilet paper, it’s sometimes frustrating trying to explain why the Elf on the Shelf is naughty.

If your family finds themselves with a naughty Elf on the Shelf, you can explain Elf mischief by comparing the Elf to Amelia Bedelia. As a millennial parent born in the 80s, I found this explanation easy when describing the beloved character I grew up with. Explain that the Elf on the Shelf means well but sometimes they find themselves in silly situations that did not go as planned. For example, your Elf might have had the intention of making your child a cup of hot cocoa but instead filled the bath tub with hot chocolate and mini marshmallows instead. Another example of a naughty elf with good intentions might be told that beauty sleep means applying make-up. In this case, in the night they might apply make-up to a family members face.

What is Elf on the Shelf?

Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition. The tradition has a book and a elf doll. The book is poetic and in rhyme sharing the purpose of the Elf’s visits. The Elf visits each Thanksgiving. He or she goes and returns from the North Pole each evening. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. The Elf has been found in the refrigerator, fishing in the toilet, writing messages on the mirror or hanging from the lights. It is VERY IMPORTANT, the Elf is not touch each evening or his Christmas magic will be lost! Each family is able to name their special elf. The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve. An Elf’s Story can also be found on DVD.

Say Cheese! Enjoy a guide to the best photo spots in all Disney World parks including the Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Epcot and Animal Kingdom. Download this free Disney Bingo checklist printable to keep track of your great photo opportunities, Disney selfie locations, & character photo challenge. This is a fun family activity for visiting the Disney parks in Orlando, Florida.

Places to take photos at Disney

Disney World is a magical place for people of all ages. With four theme parks, two water parks, and more than thirty resorts, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. If you’re looking for the best photo spots in Disney World, there is a way to do that! Introducing this Disney Photo Spots Checklist and Bring printable! This is the best way to spend your time at Disney wisely! These are Disney World photo spots worth checking out!

How to Take the Best Photos at Disney

Are you headed to Orlando, Florida? If you are going on your dream vacation, you will of course want to turn some memories into amazing snap shots. Since you have this printable that gives you the best photo spots at Disney, you may be wondering how you can take the best photos at Walt Disney World.

Give these tips a try:

1. Timing is everything

Try to take your photos during off-peak hours when there are fewer people around. This will help you avoid crowds and get the best shots. In addition to finding an uncrowded spot, capture the moment. If you see your children in a belly laugh moment, go ahead and take a dozen or so photos. You can erase the excess later after you capture the best moment in a picture.

2. Bring a tripod

This will help you take clear, steady photos that are perfect for capturing memories. Tripods can be a lot of work to remember, but they will help you take amazing pictures.

3. Use a DSLR camera or Your Phone’s Camera

If you have one, use it! This will give you the best quality photos. Don’t forget about your phone’s camera as well! Play with the lighting and some of the camera app lenses. In this photo, we adjusted the late afternoon lighting to give my daughter a perfect silhouette with her Mickey Balloon.

4. Be patient and have fun!

If you’re waiting for a perfect shot, be patient. It’ll be worth it in the end. At the end of the day, remember to have fun and enjoy your time at Disney World!

5. Disney PhotoPass Service

If you are looking for a concierge memory maker, consider the Disney Photo Pass. This will allow you to become hands off when it comes to taking the photos of your amazing vacation. From plastic card encoded card with a chip or your MagicBand, simply scan your card/band with the park’s official photographers. For a flat rate, you can have your unlimited family photos taken by every photographer in the park and get all the photos attached to your account. It’s easy to link your photos to your Disney account! You can use your MagicBand, Disney PhotoPass card, theme park ticket or annual pass. Read more on their Frequently Asked Questions page.

Frugal Savings Tip: Why reinvent the wheel?! Even if you don’t pay for the Disney Photo Pace, pay attention to the Disney Photo Pass spots. The Disney team and photopass photographers have already done all the hard work. Trust us, they know their great photo spots and backdrops.
