Love pizza? Take a look at this Ketogenic dinner idea! A Keto Pizza Recipe. A keto-recipe that is a family favorite deep dish pizza in a cast iron skillet.

Keto Pizza – Deep Dish Recipe

Keto Pizza - Deep Dish Recipe in a Cast Iron Skillet

Love pizza!? We do. Recently, we shared another Homemade Deep Dish Pizza Recipe but it wasn’t Keto Friendly so we wanted to revamp our recipe and share another idea – a Keto Pizza!

According to Healthline.com, a ketogenic diet (often termed keto) is a very low-carb, high-fat diet that shares many similarities with the Atkins and low-carb diets. It involves drastically reducing carbohydrate intake, and replacing it with fat. The reduction in carbs puts your body into a metabolic state called ketosis.

A Keto diet can be very flavorful, you really are not limited on taste but you are limited on some foods. In short, you should eat REAL food such as meat, eggs, nuts, yogurt, vegetables and occasionally some fruits. Apart from the obvious limitation of carbohydrates in foods, it is also recommended to avoid processed food and any food that may contain preservatives and colorings. Again, low-carb, high-fat!

Have questions about “what can I eat on a Keto diet?” We have answers and a convenient Keto Reference Guide. Make sure you download this Keto Diet Cheat Sheet. This cheat sheet printable PDF gives you a list of everything you can eat unlimited or in moderation including sweets, drinks, meats, veggies, fruits, oils, fats, condiments and so much more!

Keto Pizza – Deep Dish Recipe in a Cast Iron Skillet

Yields: 2-3 servings

Prep Time: 10 minutes | Cook Time: 32 minutes | Total Time: 42 minutes

Ingredients:

Crust:

  • ½ cup almond flour
  • ¼ cup mozzarella cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • ½ tablespoon dried basil
  • ½ tablespoon oregano

Filling:

  • 10-12 slices pepperoni
  • 1/3 pound Italian sausage, cooked/crumbled
  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • ½ cup shredded cheese
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

Additional materials:

  • Cast iron skillet (10”)
  • Parchment paper or wax paper

Keto Pizza - Deep Dish Recipe in a Cast Iron Skillet

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Place ¼ cup mozzarella in a bowl and microwave for 30 seconds. Add almond flour and egg to melted cheese, stir to combine. Add dried basil and oregano and stir to incorporate.
  3. Place dough in bottom of a skillet and use a piece of parchment or wax paper (a must as the dough is quite sticky) on top of the dough, allowing you to easily press the dough evenly throughout the bottom of the skillet and up the sides. It may seem like there’s not enough dough, but keep working it up the sides. It expands when it bakes even though it will seem almost paper thin before placing it in the oven.
  4. Cook the dough for 17 minutes in the oven – you can leave the parchment paper attached if it’s stuck, it’ll come off easily once crust bakes through. It should be a nice golden color after the 17 minutes.
  5. Once crust is finished baking, layer the meat in the bottom. Sprinkle the cheese on top of the meats, followed by a thick layer of pizza sauce – evenly distributed over the entire pizza. Feel free to sprinkle on a little extra cheese if desired.
  6. Place pizza back in the oven for an additional 15 minutes.

Notes: If a thicker crust is desired, double the crust recipe – this may add a few additional minutes to the crust baking time. If no cast iron skillet is available – you can make this as a traditional flat pizza using a pizza stone or pizza baking sheet.
