I have to shed some baby weight. Pregnancy with twins does a number on one’s body. I have some close friends that went through a  Keto Diet and was amazed by their results! Plus I was very intrigued by a diet high in fat, love in carbs – I mean, I really love my cheese! When you are on a Keto Diet plan, it’s important to go all in. You cannot flip flop between this lifestyle and another dietary plan otherwise your numbers will not balance. If beginning a ketogenic diet, try out these Italian Keto Meatballs for dinner. We used turkey ground met, but you can consider a fattier meat like 80/20 – 80 percent lean, 20% fat. Enjoy!

According to Healthline.com, a ketogenic diet (often termed keto) is a very low-carb, high-fat diet that shares many similarities with the Atkins and low-carb diets. It involves drastically reducing carbohydrate intake, and replacing it with fat. The reduction in carbs puts your body into a metabolic state called ketosis.

A Keto diet can be very flavorful, you really are not limited on taste but you are limited on some foods. In short, you should eat REAL food such as meat, eggs, nuts, yogurt, vegetables and occasionally some fruits. Apart from the obvious limitation of carbohydrates in foods, it is also recommended to avoid processed food and any food that may contain preservatives and colorings. Again, low-carb, high-fat!

Keto Meatballs Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground turkey*
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tbsp. Italian seasoning
  • 2 tsp. minced garlic
  • 1/8 C. fresh parsley, chopped
  • salt & pepper
  • 1/2 C. mozzarella cheese, shredded (more if you love cheese)
  • 3/4 C. marinara sauce

*Consider buying a fattier meet for a true Keto Diet. A 80 percent lean ground chuck (20 percent fat content) or 80/20 would be great!


Low Carb Dinner Italian Keto Meatballs

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Combine the ground turkey, egg, Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, minced garlic, fresh parsley, salt & pepper.
  3. Roll the the meatball mixture into 2″ balls and place in a baking dish.
  4. Bake for 20 minutes.
  5. Remove from the oven and pour the marinara sauce over the meatballs and sprinkle with cheese.
  6. Put the meatballs back into the oven and bake another 5-10 minutes until the meatballs are cooked through and the cheese is melted.
  7. Serve with salad on the side.
