Here at Frugal Coupon Living, we celebrate Elf on the Shelf for 2 months, the month of November and the month of December all the way through Christmas Eve. We like to share a few weeks leading up to Thanksgiving, when Elf comes, to give you idea and then we like to join you with ideas when the Elf arrives in your home.

Pin Pin Pin, because you will want to stay up to date on these ideas each Christmas season. We have many more ideas to come, see our previous Elf on the Shelf Ideas. Here we have a lot of FREE PRINTALBES!  That is our goal, to make Elf easy for you! Be sure to also follow the Elf on the Shelf Pinterest Board for fun ideas from other bloggers too.

What is Elf on the Shelf?

Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition. The tradition has a book and a elf doll. The book is poetic and in rhyme sharing the purpose of the Elf’s visits. The Elf visits each Thanksgiving. He/She goes and returns from the North Pole each evening. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. The Elf has been found in the refrigerator, fishing in the toilet, writing messages on the mirror or hanging from the lights. It is VERY IMPORTANT, the Elf is not touch each evening or his Christmas magic will be lost! Each family is able to name their special elf. The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve. An Elf’s Story can also be found on DVD.

Batteries not Included. Download this free Battery Gift Tag and become a child’s superhero this Christmas season with this practical gift idea! Or encourage someone with well wishes of ENERGY through the holiday break.

Battery Gift Tag for Christmas

Batteries Not Included - Practical Battery Gift Tag for Christmas

On Frugal Coupon Living, it’s the year of the practical gift. In year’s past, we shared with you our Fleece Navidad Blanket (that was a hit) and our M&M Mason Jar Poem. This year we brought you the Gift Wrap Printable and our latest one, a Battery Gift Tag.  Both are found in our list of Christmas Gift Ideas for Your Neighbors.

Okay, so it seems like a silly gift but how many times has Christmas morning arrived and you lack a battery for a toy? I cannot tell you the numerous times this happened to us. I am lucky enough that I stock up on Amazon Basic Batteries with our monthly Subscribe & Save, so luckily we have a battery box I can always run too, but others might not be as organized as you when it comes to remaining on top of your Amazon Prime needs (wink!)

Battery Gift Tag

If you want to be a super hero this holiday season, gift batteries. The kids will thank you when they can enjoy their new toys on Christmas morning. You can gift this to neighbors, co-workers, friends, teachers and more! It can be a small part of a larger gift if you just feel silly handing over batteries. Maybe you gift it with a child’s toy too!

Batteries Not Included Gift Tag

Battery Gift Tag Supplies

Not many supplies are needed for this craft. I actually used  curling ribbon I keep in my gift wrapping drawers. Seriously my favorite part of wrapping a gift is sliding the blade of my scissors along the back of the curling ribbon and Voilà – there it is, an adorable curl!

You obviously need batteries. Like I said, we have a stockpile of Amazon Basic Batteries but they don’t gift as well (unless you wrap with gift wrap.) They come in a cardboard box which could make a pretty wrapped present. I picked up these batteries at my local grocery store – just a quick add to my shopping cart!

Battery Gift Tag Directions

I print my gift tags at Staples Copy Center, more on that below. We order our four gift tags for under $1!  In your free download, are gift tags for those that celebrate Christmas and those that use more of a generic term like holidays… you can gift this for all!

Use ribbon you have on hand and tie your Battery Gift Tag to your batteries without wrapping or you can wrap in a small cardboard box ( the Amazon Basic Batteries will come in an easy to wrap box).

Battery Energy Holiday Gift Tag

Downlaod this Battery Gift Tag and all of Frugal Coupon Living’s free printables. Enter your name and email address and we will send you a link and password for access to your free downloads.

By downloading you are accepting the terms that this is for personal, non-commercial use. Please contact Frugal Coupon Living with any questions.

I am happy to share printables. When sharing with others, please lead them to my website instead of emailing them the file(s). It takes time, effort and money to put the freebies forth and I earn when you visit. Thanks for visiting and thanks for sharing with others!

Battery Gift Tag Sayings

BATTERIES not included. Merry Christmas.

We have you have the ENERGY to make it through the holidays.

We hope you have the ENERGY to make it through Christmas break.

How to Print from Staples

I like to order my prints at Staples. It saves on ink and is only a few short miles from my home. I pick-up at the store, but of course you can upload them online and then have them shipped to your home.

To Order Your Printables at Staples for Under $1*:

  1. Download and save your image from this post.  (Please note these images are for personal use only and cannot be sold or used for commercial use.)
  2. Sign in or create a Staples account on their print service page.
  3. Return to Staples print service page.
  4. Go to Start Project.
  5. Go to Documents Printing.
  6. Select the Buy Now Button under color.
  7. On the left column, select your file.
  8. Select upload.
  9. Select done.
  10. Give your job a name.
  11. Make sure your project is single sided. The orientation should be portrait.
  12. I changed my media to 8.5×10 and the media to 67 lb coverstock (I prefer a cardstock feel over printer paper feel.)
  13. Select add to cart.
  14. Proceed to checkout. My total was $0.17 for one print. You can choose to ship to your home or to pick up at your local store. Pay online and show your invoice when you pick up (I just show the order number on my phone at pick-up.) The order invoice will arrive in your email inbox.
  15. Enjoy!

*Note: these Staple print service steps were added in Fall 2018. The directions may change as the website changes. They should give you a general outline of how to upload and order a print on Staples.com.

Elf on the Shelf Ideas | Melted Snowman Cookies

We love bringing you new Elf on the Shelf Ideas. We also love sharing Christmas Food Crafts! That being said, we had to combine our two holiday loves into one – Elf on the Shelf Melted Snowman Cookies!

We wanted to make these cookies simple. We used refrigerated sugar cookie dough for our base. This is something to make with your kids, maybe cookies you use for Santa, or make them alone while the kids are in school. We made them alone since our kids still believe in Elf and then hid them that day. In the evening we took them out with a hair dryer as if Elf had melted the cookies. We used a Felt Letter Board to write the phrase – Whoops!

Melted Snowman Cookies Ingredients and Supplies:

  • Refrigerated sugar cookie dough

Frosting Ingredients:

  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract

Decorating Ingredients:

  • Marshmallows
  • 1 cup light cocoa candy melts
  • 1 cup vanilla frosting
  • Orange food coloring
  • Miniature M&M’s

Materials:

  • Baking pan
  • Parchment paper

These cookies are fun to make with the kids, but it might be a good idea to make them while they are at school and hide them so that you can make this cute little Elf on the Shelf vignette.

Melted Snowman Cookies Directions:

First, preheat your oven to 350 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

You will want to form the cookie dough into ping pong sized balls, press partially down and place on the baking sheet.

Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.

When your cookies are out of the oven, let them cool and mix together your frosting.

To make your frosting, combine your powdered sugar, milk, corn syrup and almond extract until creamy.

Pour your frosting in a decorating bag and cut a small tip off the end. Use the decorating bag to draw a wavy circle on the cookie and fill in with frosting.

In a microwave safe bowl, heat the light cocoa candy melts on 50% power for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds until melted and poured into a decorating bag.

Also mix together 1 cup of vanilla frosting with orange food coloring and scoop into a decorating bag.

Use the brown and orange decorating bags to draw a face on the marshmallow.

For the snowman head, place the marshmallow onto the cookie towards the back of the cookie.

You will want buttons! Place two M&M’s onto the cookie in front of the marshmallow.

Use the brown decorating bag to draw stick arms on each side of the marshmallow.

Enjoy your Melted Snowman Cookies!

Lock a child out of their bedroom or even the bathroom with this Elves Only Sign. You could  supply some elf ears as a gift elf leaves for them so they can enter the room or the bathroom (or maybe they are just out for the day!)

All those michevious nights? It looks like Elf got in Candy Cane Jail from This Mama Loves.

Free Elf Car Printable – One way ticket to fun down the banister! This boxcar idea comes from the Original Scout Elves, the creators of Elf on the Shelf. More cute ideas here!

Last year I shared with you an Elf on the Shelf Bowling Game, but it sold out. That’s okay, because the next best thing is a bowling lane freebie like this free Bowling Lane from Learning As I Sew.  You can pick up your own miniature bowling pins and a marble.  Don’t forget you can make a bowling game with no bowling pins and no printables. More details on how to set that up here.

Behind the scenes story. Last year I was on bed rest with the twins during Elf season. My family did not get the joy of Elf visiting and doing silly things, instead he sat by my bedside so I could get on the floor and take photos of Elf while they were at school for the blog!

Homemade Edible Christmas Gifts.  Last minute gift ideas that do more than sit on the shelf, they fill your belly!

Edible Christmas Gifts

Edible Christmas Gifts

We love DIY Christmas Gifts.  However, often waiting to the last minute for gifts puts me in a place of purchasing and often that purchase is something not from the heart. My last minute gifts become, something I like to call, “Shelf Sitters”. Shelf sitters are gifts that take up room and don’t have a reason for use.  I had a lot of these during my years of teaching elementary school.

One of the gifts I always appreciated, especially on busy winter school days, was something that filled my belly during the day. If I was feeling extra nice, those gifts made it home to share with my family.  We found the tastiest recipes, some tried and true, for your Edible Christmas Gifts.  Take a look at these gift ideas that do more than sit on a shelf!
