Elf on the Shelf Magic Seeds

The first day you provide your child with a Christmas poem. You will also need a bowl of sugar and some magic seeds (we used Tic-Tacs.) Have your child read the poem and then plant their magic seeds into the bowl of sugar. Wait one day, while their garden grows. The anticipation is exciting!

Elf on the Shelf Garden

That night, remove the magic seeds and insert Candy Canes. We planted seven Tic-Tacs and grew six candy canes. As a tip to mom, count your Tic-Tacs, they (meaning your kids) will too! When your kids wake, their garden will have grown from magic seeds to a magical Christmas Candy Cane garden!

The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve. An Elf’s Story can also be found on DVD.

Baby Shark Costume

We personally used cake toppers to create our Baby Shark Costume. They were very inexpensive and I was able to use them later for my daughter’s birthday cake.

If balancing a shark fin cupcake topper is not on your list of things to do, we have another printable to help you perfect the cutest Baby Shark costume fin for this Elf on the Shelf Shark idea. Print out our shark fins, glue two fins back to back, then bed the red tab and use double sided tape to stick to elf’s back.

We have a long list of reasons Elf on the Shelf didn’t move. Was Elf on the Shelf under the weather? Was bad behavior recognized? Was magic lost from touch?

Behavioral Warnings:

Broken Leg: No moving for two days. Elf tripped on your stuff. Clean up!

The reason I love our newest costume kit is because it brings forth seven Elf on the Shelf ideas. If you are someone who does Scout Elf for 24 days, that covers almost a third of your days. So many cute ideas for your red elves from Ugly Christmas Sweaters to a pirate costume, and even Elf super hero idea!

The Camping Elf Costume: One of my favorite ideas, four props to use for Elf go to camping. From a warm fire pit, a backpack, compass and flash light! Pose with some of your creative Barbie and doll props. Just add rocks to your fire pit!

Staging 3-D Tip: For the campfire (and the reindeer), I created a little perpendicular base by cutting a strip, cutting a tiny slit in the middle of it, cutting a tiny slit in the bottom of the reindeer and the fire cutouts, then fitting the slits together in a perpendicular way. This way I could stand them up and make them more 3D.

Christmas Accessories and Props Costume: Two days to get your elf photo booth ready for Christmas. Nine cute accessories to give your North Pole visitor some sparkly this holiday season. (See above, in the camping props, how we got our reindeer to stand!)

3-D Costume Tip: I found the double sided tape for the face masks to worked pretty well across the forehead of the hat.

Ugly Christmas Sweater Costume: Have an ugly Christmas Sweater? Elf does too. In fact, he/she has two! Everyone get your tacky Christmas sweater came on and celebrate the season. For this Ugly Sweater Costume, we used this My Life As Reversible Background for Use with Dolls, Classroom & Christmas. Adorable for Elf staging ideas. Christmas Tree Costume: Of course the Christmas tree looks beautiful in your home. But our red Elf has some competition: Who wore it better?

Elf Super Hero Costume: It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s Scout Elf here to save the day! Dress your red elves in two super hero costumes. Perfect for one, two or many North Pole elves.

Elf Pirate Costume: Sail the seven seas looking for some booty. Pirate’s booty. We have the cutest accessories to turn your Scout Elf on the Shelf into a pirate. Enjoy our map and hide 10 candy canes in the house! It makes not only for a cute Elf costume, but also make a fun activity/adventure for your kids.

Costume Elf Props & Supplies

You will need to get these costumes into place.

• The Elf on the Shelf
• Elf Costume Printables and Props
• Craft supplies: scissors, tape, push pins, Velcro, etc.
• Optional: themed accessories – camping, super hero, Christmas, pirate, etc

We wanted to give you a quick glimpse into how to attach many of these costumes. There are three ways. Push pins, keep Elf up higher when using them. Velro. Simple, sticks well to the fabric and peels easy. Tape. My favorite, go-to craft supply solution.

I found the best way hands down to secure the paper to the felt fabric of the Elf was using those sticky Velcro squares (similar to these) sold at most Walmart locations and craft stores. The double sided tape didn’t hold very well and became fuzzy too fast wen attaching props to the fabric. The velcro was pretty sticky the entire time and held stronger, yet was easy to remove and did not shred the fabric upon removal. The squares come as 7/8″ – 1″ squares. I cut into 4 little squares to be smaller on the Elf clothes and hands.
