The holiday season is upon us, and with it comes the return of everyone’s favorite mischievous visitor – The Elf on the Shelf. This festive tradition has captivated the hearts of children and parents alike, providing a whimsical way to celebrate the magic of Christmas. If you’re looking for a unique and engaging holiday elf idea that combines fun with a valuable lesson, consider this Washi Tape Hangman game for the wall.

The Elf on the Shelf Hangman: A Fun and Creative Twist for Behavior Reinforcement

To create this entertaining scene, all you need are a few simple materials: painter’s tape, washi tape, and your trusty family elf.

Supplies

  • The Elf on the Shelf Doll
  • Scissors
  • Washi Tape (we used a red and white pattern)
  • Painters Tape
  • Stuffed Animals

Step-by-Step Setup

Begin by setting up a hangman board on the living room wall using painter’s tape. This will serve as the backdrop for your interactive and educational idea for The Elf on the Shelf.

listen to your parents elf on the shelf hangman behavior idea

  1. Create the Hangman Board: Use painter’s tape to form a traditional hangman board on the wall. Designate space for the word you want your little guy to spell out – in this case, “Listen to your parents.”
  2. Hang the Scout Elf Upside Down: With a touch of whimsy, use painter’s tape to secure The Elf on the Shelf upside down, adding an extra element of surprise and creativity.
  3. Craft the Hangman Noose: Position the painter’s tape in the shape of a hangman noose, cleverly incorporating it into the North Pole elf’s dangling pose. Safely put it around his feet and not his neck. This adds a playful touch to the setup.
  4. Spell Out the Message: Now, grab your washi tape and use it to create individual letters on the hangman board. Spell out the message “Listen to your parents” in a way that makes it challenging yet achievable for the little ones to decipher. We left off the letters T and R.
  5. Surround with Stuffed Animals: To enhance the interactive aspect, scatter stuffed animals around the hangman board. These can represent the fellow pals and friends, eagerly trying to solve the puzzle.

The Lesson:

The Elf on the Shelf Hangman game serves as more than just a fun holiday activity – it also imparts a valuable lesson. The message “Listen to your parents” subtly reinforces the importance of respect and obedience, turning this festive tradition into a teachable moment.

Conclusion:

As the holiday season unfolds, consider infusing your holiday adventures with creativity and educational value. The Hangman game is a delightful way to engage your children in a positive and interactive experience, all while adding a touch of festive magic to your home. So, gather your tapes, unleash your creativity, and let The Elf on the Shelf bring joy and lessons in equal measure this holiday season!

The Elf on the Shelf Behavior Idea

There are other ways you can reinforce positive behavior using The Elf on the Shelf.

Miniature report cards are an interactive tool designed to sprinkle a bit of holiday magic into behavior management. This enchanting report card is a delightful addition to the holiday tradition, allowing parents to nurture good behavior and address areas needing improvement in a playful manner. The card features both the elation of positive notices and the gentle nudge of constructive feedback, all delivered in the charming context of the festive season. This printable report card transforms the little guy into a helpful ally in reinforcing positive behaviors, fostering a sense of responsibility, and making the holiday season truly magical for children and parents alike.

Grab a behavior note – a whimsical tool that adds an extra layer of holiday charm to the season. An official notice is a delightful way for Santa’s helper to convey their observations to the little ones, featuring a checkbox for a clear declaration of whether the day’s conduct falls under the “Naughty” or “Nice” category. The magic truly comes alive with a personalized touch, a special message in the designated space, creating a magical connection between the mischievous visitor and the children. This printable notice not only reinforces the spirit of the season but also provides an engaging and interactive platform for children to reflect on their actions and strive for a place on the nice list.

Lastly, create strike signs – a whimsical and versatile addition to the holiday festivities. Strike signs create a temporary hiatus from an elf’s mischievous antics. Whether it’s a demand for cleaning your room, being good at school, etc. a sign captures Santa’s helper’s personality and the spirit of the season. With cute strike signs, parents can effortlessly stage scenes of their holiday visitor adding a delightful twist to the traditional holiday narrative and sparking laughter and imagination in children. It’s a creative way to infuse joy into the season and share moments of lighthearted fun as families celebrate the magic of Christmas together.

To make it even easier for parents, we’ve created printable signs that you can download and use for this elf escapade.

Honk if You Love Elves: A Hilarious Car Adventure

For this embarrassing antic, you are going to need a few props and a very creative mind (don’t worry, we will help you with both!” Buckle up and get ready for a journey filled with laughter and festive fun.

Supplies

  • North Pole Elf
  • Cardstock or paper (this is the best cardstock which is perfect for your printables)
  • Scissors
  •  Tape
  • Printer (Low-cost pick)
  • Honk If You Love Elves Printable Sign
  • A car (preferably your own – wink!)

It’s pretty easy to pull off this prank. The hardest part will be your children trying to find the hiding spot.

Setting the Prank:

To execute this funny idea, start by buckling your little red guy into the car. Find an extra seat the the car. This elf is ready to roll. If you lack extra seats, secure him to the rearview mirror or the front dashboard. To add an extra touch of magic, consider decorating the car with Christmas car props like a car reindeer, festive garland, a lot of balloons, and if you are quite brave – glitter! (We won’t blame you if you skip the messy glitter.)

Download our specially designed “Honk if You Love Elves” signs and print them out. These signs are adorned with a festive heart and bold letters that are bound to catch the attention of anyone nearby.  Once printed, it’s time to place the signs on the car windows,

Hang your Honk If You Love Elves signs in on the windows ensuring they’re visible from all angles.. These printable props come in two sizes. Elf-sized and Human Sized. Mix it up and use a lot of signs. In fact, the louder you all with your sign placement the more embarrassing the car ride. Just make sure you don’t have too many signs in blind spots. Also, leave a clear opening by the window where your teen sits. You don’t want to block their face for this car ride.

Now that your hilarious elf idea is staged, it’s time to go to bed. Before you do, go to the bathroom mirror and practice your wave. You will be getting a lot of honks tomorrow morning. Make it a regal wave like Princess Diana (know your worth, mama) or it a very aggressive and over-the-top wave causing a little added humiliation to your children’s car ride. This is your time to shine mama – own it! Now go to bed. It’s going to be a busy day with the extra excitement you have to give this occasion.

In the morning, after the rooster crows, your child will likely be really upset they cannot find their elf. Absorb the desperation. Take a deep breath. You are about the save the day. You can guide them with questions like “Did you check outside,” “Go put your backpack in the car,” or “I think I left my sunglasses in the car, please go grab them?” Get creative with your ideas to get your child to the car. Or you can just be at a total loss and them them go for a while without finding their North Pole friend until it’s time for your road trip.

The Adventure Begins:

Picture the scene as your family embarks on their day-to-day activities with little red friend in the driver’s seat. Whether it’s the morning school run, a trip to the grocery store, or a commute to work, the “Honk if You Love Elves” signs are sure to create laughter and joy for everyone involved. The horns will start honking.

Parents, be prepared for the smiles and waves from fellow drivers as they honk in delight at the sight of your festive holiday adventure. Capture these moments on camera or video to cherish the holiday memories for years to come.

Want sweeter donut ideas for elves? Take a look at the ways we have incorporated the sugary sweet treat of doughnuts into our elf pranks.

First, in this adorable list of ideas, our cute little friend is dressed for a day of fun with a delightful twist. The Elf is donning a whimsical donut hat, adding a touch of sweetness to his appearance. To spread a positive message, the little visitor is also carrying a tiny sign that reads, “In a world of plain bagels, be a sprinkled donut.” This creative and punny scene is a heartwarming reminder to embrace individuality and stand out in a crowd, all while enjoying the magic of the holiday season.

Want a funny story to the backstory of this next doughnut idea? Before the Elf season hit, I went on bed rest with my twins. I had to write 55 blog posts from my bed and take 55 new photos of elf ideas. This doughnut costume was purchased off Etsy. You can see my bed sheets are in the background… and don’t worry, those are not sugary circles on my bed. I photoshopped donuts to look like the North Pole Elf was staged between a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts. There’s the back story and the fun holiday idea. You can grab a miniature donut costume online.

What is The Elf on the Shelf?

The Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition. The tradition has a book and a Scout Elf doll. The book is poetic and in rhyme sharing the purpose of Scout Elf’s visits. The little red guy visits each Thanksgiving. He/She goes and returns from the North Pole each evening. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. The North Pole Visitor has been found in the refrigerator, fishing in the toilet, writing messages on the mirror, or hanging from the lights. It is a very important rule, that Scout Elf is not touched each evening or his Christmas magic will be lost! Each family can name their special elf. The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve.

Essential Materials

The following materials are necessary to create your printable thankful tree craft:

  • Printable Thankful Tree Template
  • Printer
  • Printer Paper or White Cardstock (we love this brand!)
  • Scissors
  • Glue Stick
  • Crayons or Markers

Once you have your template, you will need to print it on white cardstock (or paper) using a printer. Cardstock is a heavier-weight paper that will make your tree more durable.

Next, you will need scissors to cut out your tree and its branches. A glue stick is also essential to assemble your tree and attach your leaves.

Optional Enhancements

While the essential materials are all you need to create a beautiful thankful tree, there are a few optional enhancements that can take your craft to the next level. Consider adding the following to your craft:

  • Colored Cardstock: Using colored Autumn cardstock for your tree and leaves can add a pop of color to your craft.
  • Glitter: Adding glitter to your leaves can make your tree sparkle and shine.
  • Ribbon or Twine: Attaching a ribbon or twine to your tree can make it easy to hang or display.
  • Frame: Placing your thankful tree in a frame can make it a beautiful piece of decor for your home that can be shown year after year.

With these materials, you can create a beautiful and unique printable thankful tree that will remind you of all the things you are grateful for.

Step-by-Step Guide to Creating Your Thankful Tree Craft

Printing Your Tree

To begin creating your thankful tree craft, start by printing the thankful tree with leaves template on cardstock paper or printer paper.  You can choose to print out the black and white copy or the colored copy. There are multiple tree stumps, some with a Bible Verse of Thanks, others without. The thankful tree with the Bible verse is perfect for a Sunday School Lesson in the classroom.

Adding Thankful Notes

thankful tree leaves things to be thankful for

Once you have printed the template, write down things you are thankful for on your leaves.

If necessary, color the leaves and the tree.

Assembling Your Craft

The final step is to add your thankful notes to the tree. Once everything is written and colored, cut out the tree and leaves carefully with scissors.  After you have cut out your tree, it’s time to assemble your craft.

Using a glue stick, glue the thankful leaves to the tree tree with branches. Set it aside to dry.

Your printable thankful tree craft is now complete! You can also add more leaves as you think of more things to be thankful for. Hang it up in a prominent place in your home to remind you of all the things you are thankful for.

Adapting the Craft to Younger Kids

colorful thankful tree leaves

This project can easily be adapted to younger kids. With many thankful leaves, there is a lot to cut out. To adapt to younger kids, use fall-colored cardstock or construction paper and cut out leaves in bulk. Allow preschoolers to draw things they are thankful for on the pre-cut leaves. For emergent readers, they can sound out words or you can help them write their list of thanks.

Instead of cutting out the tree and branches, keep the tree on the 8.5″ x 11″ page. Kids can use a glue stick to stick the colored leaves to the sheet of paper. This will give you a finished product on a traditional-sized sheet of paper. Children can color the ground or sky as they desire.

Wrapping Up Your Craft Session

As the craft session comes to a close, it’s time to reflect on the wonderful memories created while making the printable thankful tree craft. This activity is perfect for expressing gratitude and appreciation for the people, places, and things that make life special.

Before wrapping up the craft session, make sure to follow these simple steps:

  • Take a moment to appreciate the finished product. Admire the colorful leaves and the heartfelt messages written on them.
  • Display the thankful tree in a prominent place where everyone can see it. It’s a great way to remind everyone to appreciate the good things in life.
  • Clean up the craft area and put away all the materials. This will ensure that everything is ready for the next craft session.
  • Encourage everyone to share their thoughts and feelings about the activity. This will help to reinforce the importance of gratitude and appreciation.

The printable thankful tree craft is a fun and meaningful activity that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. By expressing gratitude and appreciation, we can create a more positive and fulfilling life.

Tips to Make Your Thankful Tree Craft More Engaging

Making a thankful tree craft can be a fun and meaningful way to celebrate the season of gratitude. Here are some tips to make your craft more engaging:

Use Colorful and Creative Materials

Using colorful and creative materials can make your thankful tree craft more engaging. Consider using different types of paper, such as patterned scrapbook paper or construction paper in various colors. You can also use different types of markers, pens, or paints to decorate the leaves and trunk of your tree. Using glitter or other embellishments can also add a fun and festive touch to your craft.

Involve the Whole Family

Making a thankful tree craft can be a great activity for the whole family to enjoy together. Encourage everyone to participate by writing down what they are thankful for on the leaves of the tree. You can also have each family member decorate their own leaf and add it to the tree. At Friendsgiving or the Thanksgiving Table, this can be a great way to start a conversation about gratitude and what everyone is thankful for.

Display Your Craft

Displaying your thankful tree craft can make it more engaging and meaningful. Consider placing it in a prominent location in your home, such as on a mantel or in a common area. You can also take a picture of your craft and share it on social media to inspire others to create their own thankful trees.

So you’ve gotten an elf doll! Now what?

Introducing The Elf on the Shelf is a fun and interactive way to get kids excited about the Christmas season. This beloved Christmas tradition involves a magical Scout Elf who keeps an eye on children and reports back to Santa each night. The Elf moves around the house each day, getting into mischief and creating a sense of wonder and excitement for kids of all ages.

Understanding the Tradition of The Elf on the Shelf is important before introducing it to your family. The story of Scout Elf and its purpose in watching over children can be explained to kids in a way that is both fun and informative. Once kids understand the magic behind the North Pole visitor, they will look forward to its arrival each year and enjoy coming up with creative ideas for its daily antics.

Understanding the Tradition

what is the elf on the shelf explained

The Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas tradition that has become increasingly popular in recent years. The tradition involves a Scout Elf who flies to the North Pole each night to report back to Santa about the children’s behavior. Santa’s helper then returns to the family’s home and perches in a new spot, waiting for someone to spot them. Children love to wake up and race around the house looking for their family elf.

The tradition started back in 2005 when Carol Aebersold and her daughter Chanda Bell self-published the book “The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition” along with a small Scout Elf. The book explains that elves love to report to Santa to tell him about each day’s activities. The Scout Elves help Santa manage his nice list by taking note of a family’s Christmas adventures and reporting back to Santa at the North Pole nightly.

Parents often move the Scout Elf each night to create a sense of excitement and anticipation for the children. The tradition is easy to uphold and follows three simple rules: First, children cannot touch the little guy or he will lose his magic. Second, the helper can’t speak or move while anyone is watching. And third, the little friend is only allowed to move at night.

The Elf on the Shelf tradition has become a beloved Christmas tradition for many families. It’s a fun way to create lasting memories and build excitement for the holiday season.

  • No Touching: One of the most important rules of The Elf on the Shelf is that children are not allowed to touch the Scout Elf. This is because it could cause the friend to lose its magic and ability to report back to Santa. It’s important to explain this rule clearly to children and remind them of it often.
  • Scout Elf Cannot Talk: You can talk to The Elf and Elf will listen but he/she cannot talk back.
  • Movement of Elves: The North Pole visitor will move to a new location each night, but you cannot move him/her. If he falls, get Magic Grippers to move him.
  • Holiday Reporting: The holiday visitor is meant to report back to Santa each night about the children’s behavior. It’s important to remind children that Santa’s helper is always watching and to encourage good behavior and kindness throughout the day.
  • Scout Elf Goodbye: On Christmas Eve, the Christmas visitor will leave for the year and return to the North Pole with Santa. It’s important to explain this to children so they don’t become upset when The Elf on the Shelf is no longer around.
  • Names for Elves: While not necessarily a rule, giving the elf a name can make the experience more personal and enjoyable for children. Encourage children to come up with creative and fun names for their family elf.

Remember, the rules you establish for The Elf on the Shelf can be customized to fit your family’s needs and preferences. You can print out free printable Christmas elf rules to guide you. The most important thing is to have fun and create lasting memories during the holiday season.

the elf on the shelf last night ideas

Saying goodbye to The Elf on the Shelf can be an emotional moment for both children and parents. After all, the friend has been a part of the family’s daily routine for weeks, if not months, leading up to Christmas. However, there are ways to make the farewell less sad and more memorable.

One idea is to have the little guy leave a goodbye letter for the children. This letter can thank the children for being such great hosts and recap some of the Scout Elf’s favorite moments during his stay. There are many free printable templates available online, making it easy to create a personalized letter that the children can keep as a memento.

Another way to say goodbye to The Elf on the Shelf is to throw a farewell party. This can be a fun way to celebrate the end of the Santa’s helper’s visit and create lasting memories. The party can include festive decorations, snacks, and even a special performance by the little guy himself. Involving the children in the planning process can make the party even more special.

For those who prefer a simpler approach, a hug and a thank you may be enough to bid the little friend farewell. Reminding the children that the Scout lf will return next year can also help ease the sadness of saying goodbye.

One last way to say good-bye is a retirement letter. This says goodbye forever as The Elf on the Shelf moves to a new family.

No matter how the family chooses to say goodbye to The Elf on the Shelf, it’s important to remember that the visit is just one small part of the holiday season. The memories and traditions created with family and loved ones are what truly make the season special.
