Fig Newtons Easter Bible Cookies

Ingredients:

  • Fig Newton Cookies
  • Decorating Icing in a color of your choice
  • Red or yellow fruit roll ups
  • Scissors

Fig Newtons Easter Bible Cookies Ingredients

Directions:

  1. Outline the top of a Fig Newton cookie with a thin rectangle frame of decorator’s icing. This can be in any color that you like, but we prefer white.
  2. Next, make two vertical lines with icing on either end of one side of the cookie. This will make the spine of your Bible.
  3. Draw a cross with icing in the middle of the top of your Fig Newton cookie.
  4. Cut a small rectangle shape from a Fruit Roll Up. Gently push it into the filling on top of the cookie. This will be the top of your bookmark for the Bible.
  5. Cut another rectangle from the Fruit Roll Up, but this time, cut a small triangle out of the bottom edge of it. Gently push this piece into the filling on the bottom of the cookie so that it sticks out slightly. This will be the bottom of the bookmark in your Bible cookie.
  6. Stick the cookies in the fridge or freezer for a bit to let the icing start to harden, or serve immediately.

This cupcake is an adorable after school snack for Dr. Seuss Day on March 2. Use your favorite vanilla cupcake mix, some green icing and vanilla icing topped with black rope licorice to make these adorable cupcakes!

Green Eggs and Ham Dr. Seuss Cupcakes

Ingredients:

  • 10 to 12 Prepared Cupcakes (6 white and 4 to 6 Green cupcakes)

Green Eggs and Ham Dr. Seuss Cupcakes

Directions:

  1. Prepare vanilla cupcakes according to the package. Make sure a few of your cupcakes are green (use a few drops of green food coloring when mixing the batter.)
  2. Cook according to package directions and cool.
  3. Frost all the white cupcakes with the white frosting in a flat, smooth layer.
  4. Mix the crumbled green cake with a tablespoon or two of green frosting until it comes together so you can scoop it. (Note: When I made my white cupcakes, I tinted 4-6 with green coloring to get my green cake.)
  5. Use a small cookie scoop, a put a rounded scoop of green cake mixture on the center of each cupcake so it looks like a green egg yolk.
  6. Take a piece of licorice rope about the length to make a circle shape on top of a cupcake. Lay a piece on each cupcake in a circular shape around the edge, it will naturally curve and not be a perfect circle. This is what you want it to do, so just press it into the frosting so it lays down. It should look like the edge of an egg.
  7. Enjoy these fun treats for Dr. Seuss Day!

“Luv”ing our New Twins

Eight weeks of bed rest… no time for epidural during delivery. To say this pregnancy went as planned would be a lie.

We learned last spring we were expecting twins. This was around the time my youngest child was 6 months old. I had experienced back to back pregnancies before. In my twenties, I had both my older girls back to back (16 months apart) but something told me last spring, this road would be different.

The day before I turned 28 weeks, I began pre-term labor. I was apprehensive to go into triage because I feared the results. Either I was delivering too early or I was going to be assigned bed rest. Luckily, we walked away from the hospital a few days later with the lesser of two evils – to bed for me.

Bed rest took a long time. I had family come in to help with my 13 month old. I had no choice but to lay in bed for eight weeks with bathroom privileges. I was so grateful to make it to 36 weeks after a 28 week scare. However, the boys surprised us as we (and they) were still not ready when December 22 came. All of us were shocked by my water breaking at 1 am and the delivery an hour and a half later. Even the doctor barely made it to the hospital. He met my husband and I in the hallway where I was 10 cm dilated and holding the boys in with my hand. The team of nurses rushed me to the operating room for a c-section and as my husband was scrubbing up, he missed the vaginal delivery of our first son, Henry. Luckily in the commotion, a nurse noticed his absence and rushed to get him to great our second son, Max, delivered 7 minutes later. No time for a c-section (or epidural) for this mama!

I am grateful for the additional 8 weeks. This ensured the boys were fully developed and at a place to put on weight, but they still came in small at 4 lb 12 oz and 4 lb 15 oz. Even making it to 36 weeks, the boys needed help and our youngest, Max, entered the NICU.

Even as an experienced mom, every pregnancy and child comes with a new experience! This delivery and taking care of a NICU baby was a first for me. It doesn’t matter how many children you have, when a newborn baby arrives, you want nothing but the best for your child.  An additional child and additional expenses, remind me to focus on the basics (and the basics don’t have to be the most expensive item on the shelf!) When it comes to diapers, Luvs gives your baby the protection they need and is easy on your wallet.

As a fourth/fifth time mom, we were gifted some of the sweetest gift, but my favorite gift of them all are diapers! That is what mama needs and often that is the last thing I have time to go out and buy.  Having 5 children in the home and 3 of them in diapers, this mama wants something that protects my young ones, keeps them dry, but also doesn’t break our budget… that is why, this smart mama, chooses Luvs!

  • Black write-on gel
  • Red write-on gel

Directions:

Directions for Rice Krispies:

  1. Spray a 9 x 9 pan with Pam and set aside.
  2. In a large sauce pan, melt the butter over low heat.
  3. Add the marshmallows to the melted butter, stirring constantly.
  4. Once the marshmallows are melted, remove from the heat and stir in the cereal and optional salt until well-coated.
  5. Using a rubber spatula (spray with Pam for easier handling), transfer the cereal mixture to the prepared pan and press down firmly and evenly.
  6. Allow the Rice Krispies to cool in the pan completely.

Assembly Directions for Dr. Seuss Treats:

  1. Line a baking sheet with wax or parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. Cut the prepared Rice Krispies (from recipe above) into 6 even long rectangles.

  4. Add the white chocolate melts and stir until completely melted.
  5. Immediately coat each Rice Krispies stick with the melted white chocolate and place on the baking sheet to “set” for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Meanwhile, cut each Airheads piece into 2 pieces lengthwise. You will have 18 pieces total.
  7. Once the chocolate on the Rice Krispies is dry, take an Airhead piece and wrap around a Rice Krispies stick at the very top of the stick. Pinch at the back to seal.
  8. Wrap another Airheads piece around the stick about 1/2-1 inch down from the top one. Pinch at the back to seal.
  9. Repeat step 7 with another Airheads piece. Complete steps 6-8 until all of the Rice Krispies have 3 airheads pieces alternating with white chocolate for the hat.
  10. With the black write-on gel, pipe two eyes, a nose and whiskers on each stick.
  11. At the very bottom of each stack, pipe a large “X” with the red write-on gel. Fill it in with the gel to resemble a bow tie.

Have you read The Happiest Baby on the Block? This book (and Becoming Baby Wise) has always been my go to book through the birth of all five of my children. The Happiest Baby on the Block focuses on 5 S’s. They include…

1.) Swaddle
2.) Side or stomach position (supervised, normally in your arms)
3.) Shush
4.) Swing
5.) Suck

Of all of my kids, three off these are very important to me – the swaddle, the shush (white noise) and the suck (I love pacifiers!) Recently I gave birth to twin boys. From day one, we realized holding them and keeping them feeling secure would not  be as easy as it was for the singletons (first three kids.) Since this was the case, the swaddle became all the more important in our home so they could feel secure and held.  I have used many different swaddles in my life. Blankets, wraps and more but I have recently fell in love with the latest swaddle – The Ollie Swaddle.

The Ollie Swaddle is made from custom moisture-wicking material to reduce the risk of overheating. I think this was my favorite feature. The swaddle is soft to the touch. It is stretchy, it reminds me very much of quality bathing sit materials.  This most recent delivery gave me two 4 pound premies and we began using this swaddle around 3 weeks of age when they had hit 6 pounds (yes, I fed and fed and fed – they grew fast.) The swaddle is custom fit and I can individualized it to meet the needs and size of each little one. Additionally, if you do a dream feed (feed without waking) in the night, there is easy access for diaper changes accessible through opening at the bottom. You never have to un-swaddle your child!

This swaddle is easy to use! In fact, it’s easy as 1…2…3 (and 4). These simple steps give your child a tight fit and comfy swaddle. Unlike many other swaddle brands, I love that this one-size promotes ease with transitional stages. I never have to buy a size larger – Woot, woot. Talk about money saved!

The Ollie Swaddle is an adorable shower gift idea. Take a look at the adorable packaging.  The packaging come in this adorable box with a washable mesh bag. We saved the box to store things on top of the kids’ dresser like pacifiers, a thermometer and more.

You can save too! Today, use this link and save 10% off all products. Additionally, get free shipping on U.S. orders!
