The girls and I put together a canvas print for their bedroom (see desk we just made too). I actually have two. One when my eldest daughter was younger (just her and I), then one of both daughters and I.

The kit we used is found on Amazon in blue or pink – grab the Pearhead Baby and Me Handprint Canvas Kit, Pink Elephant for $12.65 to $12.99.

There are a couple Canvas and Paint Deals on Amazon if you would like to go your own direction.

I like the Winsor Newton 8-Inch by 10-Inch Artists Quality Stretched Canvas for the low price of $5.06 from $29.94 Please read the reviews. The low stars are because people were expecting 6 canvases and got one.

I used DecoArt DASK279 Crafter’s Acrylics Home Décor Brights Sample Pack for $8.74. I am not sure how safe it is for a child’s hands, so please wash hands well and follow all directions on the bottle.

Find more Canvas Prints,  Paint Selections and Hand and Feet Print Kits on Amazon.

We’re kicking off a Back to School Bash with Frugal Coupon Living this week! When Ashley asked us to share some back to school ideas, we couldn’t be more thrilled. Being teachers we get just as excited (or nervous) to head back to the classroom as the kids do. For the next several weeks we’ll share with you some fun and educational ways to get in the school spirit.

Packing lunches can be a dreaded task in even the most organized of households. Use this art project as a perfect way to have your little ones help jump start your packing parties.

All you’ll need is:

  • Paper lunch sacks
  • Washable paint (we used red, green, and white)
  • Apple sliced in half
  • Cork
  • Scraps of ribbon
  • Hole puncher
  • Black marker
  • Paper plates

Lay out a couple of paper plates for your kids with some paint on each of them. Show them how the apple can double as a stamp. Have them cover the cut side of apple with paint and stamp their bags. They can use the cork to make polka dots. Once they’re dry you can use the black marker to finish off the design. By folding the top of the bag over once and hole punching, you’ve prepared your bag to be used as soon as school starts. Have the kids design special ones for themselves or their siblings. Let them dry and store them away for back to school time. The final touch is some cute ribbon through the holes on the top once it’s stuffed with a yummy lunch!

Make sure to check back next week for printable lunch notes, so you can drop a sweet line to your favorite student. In the meantime for more educational ideas visit us at www.simplysprouteducate.com.

There was a $1 Heinz Vinegar coupon SmartSource Insert this past weekend (6/24).  If you got it, take it to Target for this HOT deal:

Heinz Vinegar – $1.07 for small White Vinegar and $1.14 for Apple Cider Vinegar
$1 Heinz Vinegar SS 6/24
= $.07 – $.14 each!

Thanks, Penny Pinchin Mom

Vinegar is a miracle (cheap) liquid that no house should go without!  I was looking around on Pinterest for a list of Vinegar uses and came across this awesome list from 7thhouseontheleft.com (isn’t that a cute blog name?) called 77 Uses for Vinegar!

My top 5 Favorites are:

  • Soothe bee or jellyfish stings with vinegar.
  • Get rid of deodorant stains by rubbing the stain with vinegar, then wash as usual.
  • Make homemade stickers. Boil vinegar in a pan, then turn down to low and add some gelatin. Let the mixture cool and brush it on the back of your “sticker art” then cut in  your desired shape. Let dry and you have homemade stickers (from here)!
  • Boil better eggs by adding 2 tablespoons of vinegar before boiling. This keeps them from cracking and helps the peel to come off easier.
  • Deodorize the kitchen drain by poring a cup down the drain once a week.

Be sure to Follow Frugal Coupon Living on Pinterest (FCLAsh). The Humor board is quite popular!

Summer officially began this week and for a lot of kids that means it’s time to pack up the duffel bags and head off to camp. We have fond memories of all the summer time joy that goes along with sleep away camp. One of the best parts of the day was mail time in the mess hall! Your kids are sure to be happy campers with something sweet tucked in their bag and some mail to brighten their day!

Here is seven days of sweet sunshine for your camper. Fill each day with some candy or goodies and a note. They will love it!

Other ways to send love from home to your campers are:

  • Postcards mailed each day with one letter written on each. By the end of their stay the message might spell something like, “I miss you!”
  • A personalized pillowcase with sweet dream messages.
  • A CD or playlist for their iPod with their favorite music.
  • A recorded message card so a camper can hear a familiar voice from home.
  • A care package of their favorite homemade baked goods.
  • A candy gram. Use the names of candy bars to write a special note

Be sure to print/download the Camp Candy Care Package Tags.

We’ve been camping all week at Simply Sprout and we’re keeping on these happy trails through the weekend! Come visit us at  www.simplysprouteducate.com.

A Sweet Thank You – Lemon Blueberry Cake Bread

May 26, 2012 by Ashley at Frugal Coupon Living Filed Under: Pinterest, Recipe Leave a Comment

As your family wraps up the school year it’s a great time to say thank you to the people who have lent a hand in your child’s school day.  Whether that’s teachers, volunteers, or a bus driver, a homemade treat always does the trick.  As teachers and mothers ourselves our hearts are full of gratitude for volunteers in our classrooms, and the educators of our children.

This Lemon Blueberry Cake Bread is sure to create sweet smiles and memories.

Bread Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 6 tbsp butter
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 ½ tbsp lemon zest
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 1 ¼ cups blueberries

Bread Lemon Glaze:

  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 3 tbsp fresh squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp lemon zest

Directions:

Preheat oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit.  Spray 8 ½ x 4 ½ non stick loaf pan with cooking spray.  Combine flour, baking powder, and salt; set to the side.  In a medium bowl, cream the butter and 1 ½ cups sugar until fluffy in consistency.  Add the eggs; beat well.  Add in the lemon zest.  Pour in the flour mixture alternating with the milk.  Gently fold in the blueberries.  Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until golden brown on top.

To add a glaze mix the sugar, lemon juice, and zest in a small saucepan.  Bring to a boil.  Using a fork, poke holes in the bread and pour glaze on top.  Allow to cool for 30 minutes.

Simply download our thank you note, print on card stock paper, write a sweet message on the back, and attached to a cellophane wrapped yummy loaf!  For other end of the school year ideas visit us at  www.simplysprouteducate.com.
