Many might say Jesus and basketball have no correlation.  If you’re not a fan of basketball, I get why you would feel this way. However if you child love an oversized orange ball and the glow of lights on  wooden court, then this basketball and Jesus thing might have something in common. Commonalities can include joy, excitement, and thrill.

Let’s continue….

How can I add basketball in Elf on the Shelf ideas?

Does your child love basketball? There are a few resources available for your Elf on the Shelf that will create a perfect Elf basketball idea.

First, the Elf on the Shelf website has an adorable basketball board you can print. This does list the Scout Elves at Play kit in the supplies but I think you can easily put this idea together without the kit. (The inflation of this kit is amazing to me, I got it at $22 years ago and now the MSRP is $58. I think you can use your own supplies or watch to see if the price drops!)

Want a printable Basketball Hoop + Scoreboard? Kids Activities blog has all you need.

Etsy has a few Elf Basketball Ideas too. I think Etsy creators are just so creative including when it comes to the Elf season. I say that a little biased, because I have an Etsy Elf shop too!

This is not an easy Elf on the Shelf idea. It will take some time to make your magic box. You also need multiple elves for this Elf idea.

MAGIC ELF TIP: Don’t have two Elf on the Shelf dolls? Borrow one from am friend and gift him/her Elf on the Shelf travel post cards while that Elf is on vacation (not in their home!)

Sawing an Elf on the Shelf in Half

It will take a few minutes to create this magic Elf on the Shelf trick. Your goal is to saw your Elf doll in two. To do this, you need multiple elf dolls. See our tip above for acquiring two elves.

The longest process will be crafting your magic saw box. Your goal is to make sure if your kids peek inside the box, they can’t see the elf. You can use stuffing to hide the rest of elf’s body, consider using tissues paper or pillow filling.

Supplies

  • The Elf on the Shelf Dolls
  • Play saw or a butter knife will work
  • Cardstock or 3×5 card
  • Pen or Marker
  • Christmas wrapping paper or kraft paper
  • Boxes

Instructions

Grab a box that is about the size of Elf. You will need two or to cut the box in half. You could even use toilet paper rolls.

Wrap them in gift wrap. Consider having extra wrap or tissue paper to hide the hidden Elf torso well. You don’t want your child peeking into the boxes and seeing there is a second elf doll.

Once your boxes are wrapped, insert the elves legs in one. YOu likely need to fold the legs in or over.

Insert the elf’s head in another box so the legs hang out.

Lay your boxes on the table and keep them about an inch apart.

Find a fun villian or magician to saw your elf in half. You can use a fun pretend play saw or butter knife for this fun idea.

On a 3×5 index card or cardstock, write the title “magic show.”

Viola – you have an adorable and magical elf on the shelf idea.

Ready for a little mischief? Try to trap Elf on the Shelf in a balloon. Follow this easy Elf on the Shelf Balloon idea and tutorial. You can even fill your balloon with candies and confetti that come out when popped. Create an Elf return with this fun idea.

Another magic trick is Trapping Elf on the Shelf in the TV. It’s so funny and your kids might feel like they are spending forever trying to find their Scout Elf. This can be a hard hiding space for Elf.

How to Trap Elf on the Shelf in a Water Bottle

This is one of those “how did the Elf on the Shelf do that” idea. Best of all, it’s quick and easy for you mama. Your kids will brag over and over what their Elf doll did last night and you will feel like a Pinterest mom with very little effort.

My only request, though, is if you try this Elf idea, you send some one back to this page to try it themselves. Lets support fellow Elf on the Shelf Moving Committee members – because we all know the struggle bus can be real during this holiday season!

Let’s begin – quickly gather a few supplies.

Supplies

  • The Elf on the Shelf Doll
  • Water Bottle (or another plastic bottle)
  • Utility Knife
  • Tape

Instructions

Its’ actually very easy to get Elf on the Shelf stuck in a water bottle.

  1. First, take off the top of your plastic water bottle. Drain the water.
  2. Carefully peel the label of the bottle and put it to the side. You want to keep this label intact.
  3. Take a utility knife and carefully cut the water bottle in half. This can be done directly behind where the label was. You will cut in a cross potion and drag your knife all the way around the bottle so it cuts in half with a bottom and a top.
  4. Dry out the inside of your bottle with a paper towel or towel.
  5. Insert your Scout Elf.
  6. If you want an Elf on the Shelf note or message, insert the note in the bottle too.
  7. Carefully lay the two parts of the bottle together. Tape the two pieces together so that the tape will be hidden when the label goes back on.
  8. Once the pieces are held together, carefully wrap the water bottle label back on the bottle. Tape it together. Try to hide or mask the tape.
  9. Place your Elf on the Shelf Water bottle with the other water bottles that hold elf.
  10. Viola – you have trapped your Elf in a bottle!

Have fun watching your kids find their North Pole elf in this Hard Elf on the Shelf hiding spot.

Want a funny idea? “I shined your shoes!” is a funny Elf note for this Elf on the Shelf tin foil shoes idea. Pair with the German Christmas tradition St Nicholas Day on December 5th. New creative, funny, and original Elf on the Shelf Ideas daily.

Want new Elf on the Shelf Ideas in your inbox daily in the month of November & December? Sign up here!

Looking for a silly idea that can actually celebrate different cultures around the world. Have Scout elf shine your child’s shoe with tin foil. Extend the idea by bringing in the German shoe tradition for Christmas.

Elf on the Shelf Shoe Idea

In your home, gather the following supplies to put together this fun Shoe Shined Elf on the Shelf idea.

Supplies

  • The Elf on the Shelf Doll
  • Aluminum Foil
  • Shoes
  • Cardstock or paper (this is the best cardstock which is perfect for your Elf printables)
  • Markers

Instructions

This idea is quick and easy and if your children still understand what “Shoe shine” means then they will love the humor in this Elf idea.

For this funny Elf prank, take your child’s shoe and wrap each in tin foil.

Take your marker and write a message on a piece of paper or cardstock “I shined your shoes for you.”

Of course, don’t do this with their school shoes. Imagine the embarrassment wearing aluminum foil shoes to school – haha! You could do something silly and wrap dads and then dad can act like he wore them all day at work (have him leave the house and return home – he can carry a different set of shoes for the day!)

Looking for more Elf ideas with shoes? Did you know that shoes are actually apart of a German Christmas tradition? Learn how you can extend this idea with a fun Christmas idea celebrating other cultures.

What is the German Christmas Tradition with Shoes?

german christmas tradition shoe elf on the shelf

The German holiday, St. Nicholas Day, falls on December 5. On this day, children clean and polish their shoes and leave them by the front door before going to sleep. The next day their shoes are filled with fruit, candy, nuts and small gifts from St. Nick.

If this is a German shoe Elf on the Shelf idea you would like to do, do this idea on December 5th or really any day in December to recognize Christmas traditions around the world. Just remind your kids it’s Saint Nicolas Day!

Mama, this Elf idea is quick and easy.

Supplies
