Tangled Rapunzel: Who wouldn’t get tangled up in all that hair?!! This is a silly game of wrapping your fellow princesses in long, golden “hair”. Mermaid parties are a fun theme idea for a girls’ party. Enjoy 11 mermaid party games & activities that will wow the kids and make a memorable day for the birthday girl and her little mermaids.

The Best Mermaid Games

Do your kids love mermaids? Mermaid themed birthday parties are full of colorful decorations, a backdrop, garlands and fun party supplies. The centerpiece is usually a beautiful decorated mermaid cake or two which represents the ocean or perhaps a sparkly glitter mermaid tail.

Like you, I’m always looking for creative new ideas that truly stand out at kid’s birthday parties. I’ve put together some mermaid party games that your little mermaid & her friends will love.

Mermaid Games for Kids

Mermaid themed games are a terrific way to keep kids entertained during your next birthday party. One of the best things about these mermaid party activities is their simplicity, they require almost no planning on your part.

Mermaid party games are great fun for any mermaid-themed birthday party. Creative games keep your guests entertained and having fun! With these exciting and engaging mermaid games you guests will be sure to keep moving and laughing without requiring too much prep work on your part.

Mermaid Games for Parties

Planning the perfect mermaid party isn’t hard with fun snacks and unique party ideas. But if you really want to take your child’s birthday party to the next level mermaid birthday party games are a must.

Mermaid Birthday Party Games

So, let’s get started thinking about the mermaid party games you could plan for your next mermaid-themed birthday party!

Musical Islands

This fun party activity gets everyone up and moving. Plus it’s super easy to set up! All you need is some hula hoops, a die, and tropical music. Similar to the classic musical chairs game, party guests move around the area while the music is playing. When the music stops, everyone will choose a numbered hula hoop to stand in. Roll the die and everyone in the matching number are out. Keep playing until there is only one person left. The winner is the last person standing!

Seaweed Limbo

Using colorful crepe paper tied to poles, mermaids will swim under the seaweed. The rules are the same as traditional limbo. Each round the poles are lowered, making the game more challenging. Whoever can still fit under when the last pole is in place wins!

Pass the Treasure

Similar to a Christmas gift wrapping game, treasure is wrapped in layers of colorful wrapping paper and bubble wrap. Pass the treasure around the circle until the music stops. Who ever is holding the package unwraps one layer of the treasure.

Participants can either keep any small trinkets that are unwrapped in the layers. The party game ends when the treasure is unwrapped. The lucky mermaid that unwraps the last layer gets the prize!

Burst the Bubble

This is another great active game that can be set up in seconds and played with all ages. All you need for this game is two sets of bubbles for each team. Keeping the opposite team from popping all your team’s bubbles while popping their bubbles is the goal. The team with bubbles left at the end of the game wins!

Seaweed Tangle

Using rolls of crepe paper (shades of blue, purple and green streamers work best for a mermaid theme) party guests will decorate their “ocean” with “seaweed” to make a fun maze that they can swim through.

Participants can go to treasure chests and pick out rewards like candy, pearl necklaces, jewels, mermaid crafts, or sequin wands.

Even more rewarding will be the empty stomachs ready for mermaid party food and tasty cupcakes for dessert!

Mermaid Party Games Printable PDF

The mermaid party games PDF download has eleven creative games that are perfect for any mermaid themed birthday party or summer party. Some mermaid games can be played with simple supplies, others will require a little bit of planning and creativity. The most important thing is to have fun!

Strong Mom Quotes

Have a strong mom? Encourage her with these short mom quotes. This adorable mom quote printable is perfect for a mother’s birthday, Mother’s day or just because.

Encouraging Mom Quote

Being a mom isn’t for the weak. It’s a lot of hard work, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. A strong mom is one who can handle anything that comes her way, even when things get tough.

It’s no secret moms were created with some type of super human strength – both physically, emotionally and mentally. While I (a mom of five) don’t have the strength to lift a car, I can birth humans (in my case – accidently unmedicated, barely on a table.) While, I love good sleep I have an ability to make it day after day with interrupted nights.

The strength of a mother is powerful and sometimes events are placed our lives that require us to be physically and emotionally present and all of a sudden we are presented with super hero strength we did not realize we were able to muster. As Barbara Kingsolver once said, “sometimes the strength of motherhood is greater than natural laws.”

Children come into our lives in so many ways, you don’t have to have given birth to be a mother. No matter what your mom situation is, the fact of the matter is that if someone depends on you, you’re a momma.

Celebrate Mom with Strong Mom Quotes

Whether it’s Mother’s Day, mom’s birthday or mom is just overdue for some extra love, these strong mom quotes are a great way to remind the woman who raised you how much she means to you.

“A mother’s love is something that no one can explain, it’s something that you have to feel. It’s the passion of a thousand suns burning inside of you.” – Unknown

“The best place to cry is on a mother’s arms.” – Jodi Picoult

“We have a secret in our culture, and it’s not that birth is painful. It’s that women are strong.” – Laura Stavoe Harm.

“The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.” – Rajneesh

“Motherhood is a choice you make every day to put someone else’s happiness and well-being ahead of your own, to teach someone else that life isn’t always about what you want.” – Mandy Hale

“A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when misfortune takes the place of happiness; when we are deserted by the world, and our friends in whom we trusted, have proved unworthy of our confidence. A mother’s love is then most needed, and most tender.” – Washington Irving

“A mother understands what a child does not say.” – Jewish Proverb

“Motherhood is a choice you make every day, to put someone else’s happiness and well-being ahead of your own. To teach the hard lessons, to do the right thing, even when you’re not sure what the right thing is to forgive yourself over and over again for doing everything wrong.” – Donna Ball

“One of the greatest titles in the world is parent, and one of the biggest blessings in the world is to be one.” – Jim Gaffigan

“A mom’s hug lasts long after she lets go.” – Unknown

“A mother is she who can take the place of all others but whose place no one else can take.” – Unknown

“All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.” – Abraham Lincoln

“The heart of a mother is a deep abyss at the bottom of which you will find forgiveness.” – Honore de Balzac

“It is not until you become a mother that your judgment slowly turns to compassion and understanding.” – Erma Bombeck.

Strong Mother Quotes

As someone who has walked the walk of being a single mom, I wanted to share a few verses of encouragement. That circumstances in that season of time was one of my hardest. If you find yourself in times of stress, be encouraged by some of these strong single mother quotes.

“There is no way to be the perfect mother but a million ways to be a good one.” – Jill Churchill.

“Successful mothers are not the ones that have never struggled. They are the ones that never give up, despite the struggles.” – Sharon Jaynes.

“To describe my mother would be to write about a hurricane in its perfect power. Or the climbing, falling colors of a rainbow.” – Maya Angelou.

“Any mother could do the jobs of several air traffic controllers with ease.” – Lisa Alther

“Not only am I a fighter, but I’m a survivor. I think being a mother really plays into that.” – Willow Cross

“A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.” -Washington Irving

Hey Google, Call Mom

Being a mom doesn’t mean you’re perfect, it means you do your best. You feel more deeply, you love harder. You’re strong when you don’t want to be and show that it’s okay to be vulnerable.

Celebrate your mom with a simple phone call, text, or visit to remind her that she is loved. And if you don’t live near your mom, take a few minutes to tell her how much you appreciate all she’s done for you.

No matter what, a strong mom is always there for her children. So thank your mom for everything she’s done for you and let her know how much you love her with encouraging mom quotes.

Strong Mom Printable

strong mom quote

To help you celebrate your amazing mom, we made this Strong Mom printable. Just download, print and frame the strong mom quote. I personally keep mine by my kitchen sink. Each time I am doing dishes (yes, millions and millions of dishes – usually my kids) I am able to view this quote.

Are you exhausted?

Me too, but we’ve got this.

I’m choosing to be thankful in this moment because it means we’re making a difference.

Remember, you are doing an amazing job!

It’s easy to put together, doesn’t cost much (even for a broke college kid!) and she’ll love to hang it up somewhere special to remind her of how awesome you think your mom is!

Stay Strong, Mom!

There is no perfect mother. In fact a good mother knows her imperfections. In fact, to quote Arianna Huffington “The fastest way to break the cycle of perfectionism and become a fearless mother is to give up the idea of doing it perfectly – indeed to embrace uncertainty and imperfection.”

If you are here today because you are also an exhausted mom, I get it. As a mom of five, I am also asked which number kid is the hardest. Honestly, each kid is unique and comes with their own joys and challenges. However, for me the answer to this question is always the same “the first is the hardest.”

If you are here, you are a mom. In that case, you at least have one. Hugs mama, it’s hard but you are strong. Remember, even in the day to day challenge, you are in this place, the present. And the present is the gift of your child(ren) even on days where you might not feel it.

Spring Activities Bucket List Printable

Spring is a time of new beginnings and exciting changes. One way to celebrate the season is by making a bucket list for spring. To help get your family moving and to help them break out of their (egg)shell, I’ve put together an exciting Spring Activities Bucket List printable to share with you.

What is a Bucket List?

A bucket list can be anything from things you want to do, places you want to go or people you want to see this time of year. For many people, a bucket list is a list of activities they would like to accomplish as a family. For others, a bucket list can include things to do before you die.

A bucket list can be short, like for a period of time like a season . Your list can be seasonal like a Christmas bucket list, or be made up of all the things that are unique to the months of March, April, and May. It can also be long like fun things you would like to accomplish in a lifetime.

The list can focus on indoor activities, things to do on vacation, or even over a school break Share these activities with others or make them solo.  There’s really no limit to what you can put on your personalized bucket list or family bucket list.

A new season. A new tradition.

Spring Bucket List Ideas

Spring is the perfect time to start a new family tradition and make a plan to spend time together. We always have the best of intentions to do things as a family, but it seems like something always comes up. This year, make a plan and stick to it with this handy dandy spring bucket list!

One fun way to welcome the new season is to get outdoors and take in fresh air. Warmer weather opens up the list of ideas and outdoor activities you can do together. Of course, a list makes everything organized and together. Plus crossing things off your list is a great feeling and the reward of making great memories together is even better!

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Have a family game night.
  • Make s’mores over a campfire.
  • Go on a road trip.
  • Craft a spring theme art project.
  • Go for a swim in the lake or pool.

That sneaky little guy…. the leprechaun left behind fun treasure hunt for St. Patty’s Day. Download and print a St. Patrick’s Day Scavenger Hunt printable with 20 rhyming riddles for your child today!

St. Patrick's Day Scavenger Hunt

St. Patrick’s Day is around the corner and it’s time to celebrate all things rainbow and lucky with a colorful St. Patrick’s Scavenger Hunt. Planning a fun for this Irish holiday can be a bit tricky, but with this St. Patrick’s Day leprechaun activity your kids will be over the rainbow looking for clues.

St. Patrick’s Day Traditions

St. Patrick’s Day is the day when we celebrate all things Irish, including a little bit of luck and magic. It’s a great time to spend with family or friends, eat delicious food, wear green clothes, and enjoy different Irish traditions!

There are plenty of ways to get in on the fun too – you can make your own lucky charms for good luck throughout the year, make your own DIY leprechaun trap or learn about traditional Irish music instruments and dancing.

And if you’re looking for something else besides drinking green beer (or any other green drinks), there are tons more Saint Patrick’s Day traditions and celebrations to fit every type of personality and family. No matter what kind of fun you’re looking for, there’s a good chance that you can find it on March 17th!

But if you’re looking for a way to add a bit of extra fun and excitement to your day, why not try this fun idea – a scavenger hunt? This St. Patty’s Day Scavenger Hunt is perfect for all ages and will have everyone racing around looking for clues to the leprechaun’s hiding spot.

St. Patrick’s Day Scavenger Hunt

That sneaky little leprechaun escaped the the Leprechaun Trap. However he left behind a fun St. Patricks’ Day activity. This printable is perfect for a St. Patrick’s Day party or family activity. Just download, print, and cut out the clues. Hide them around the house for a fun challenge and discover (perhaps) a Leprechaun’s pot of gold.

What You’ll Need:

  • Printer
  • Paper
  • Scissors
  • Clues (download below)
  • A St. Patrick’s Day treat for participants (like Gold Chocolate Coins)

Leprechaun Scavenger Hunt Clues

In order to make this St. Patty’s Day Scavenger Hunt really fun, we added some rhyming clues that your child can solve as they race around the house in this at home treasure hunt. If you have toddlers or younger kids, pair them with older children to help solve the St. Patrick’s’ Day Scavenger Hunt riddles and clue cards.

A few examples of rhyming clues include…

Leprechaun Scavenger Hunt Clues

I think I hear something jiggling like gold. Run to the place where you keep the food cold. (Refrigerator.)

St. Patrick's Day Scavenger Hunt Clues

You’re doing a great job on this treasure hunt, continue the fun when you look out front. (Lawn or front porch.)

St. Patrick's Day Treasure Hunt Clues

Irish kisses and shamrock pinches, search in the place where you keep your riches. (Piggy bank or wallet.)

… now to grab your fun St. Patrick’s Day printable.

Treasure Hunt Printable

To get started, download and print the clues on white cardstock. There are twenty different clues for you to choose from, making it easy to set up a custom scavenger hunt that works for your home.

Download your St. Patrick’s Day Scavenger Hunt PDF here.

There’s also a clues & answers page just in case you get stumped on one of the clues. It also makes setting up the St. Patty’s day activity quick and easy to set up.

Instructions

Once printed, cut out the clues and hide them around the house so they match the list given. The idea behind the scavenger hunt is that a leprechaun has hidden treasure that your kids need to find.

You’ll want to put together a themed prize for the final clue location. This could be anything from a pot of gold coins to a special treat like some yummy candy or an Irish-themed toy.

Once everything is ready, gather the kids and explain the rules. Save the first card. Then, it’s time to get busy hunting!

The best part about this scavenger hunt is that it can be tailored to any age group, even adults! Just make sure to adjust the treats and small prizes at the end of the rainbow accordingly. Mini bottles of alcohol, chocolates, a rainbow charcuterie board and green beer would be a great adult prize for a St. Patrick’s Day treasure hunt!

Now that you’re all ready to go, download the clues and get started on this festive and fun family activity. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

How to Throw a Wine Tasting Party with Games

Plan the perfect wine tasting party with these helpful tips and hilarious party games that will have your party guests talking about for years to come!

If you’re looking for a great way to spend an evening with friends, family or colleagues then consider throwing a wine tasting party. Plan a few classy wine tasting games, add some small bites that complement the wine flavors, and a delicious dessert and you have one amazing party that will have all the guests raving!

Which types of wine should I serve?

A sparkling wine is always a great way to start the night while people are arriving. Next, a nice white wine is fantastic and pairs well with a variety of foods (think savory appetizers). Reds are heavier in flavor so best for dinner parties or later in the evening when people have already eaten or paired with a dessert. Consider serving one red and one white to your guests if you’re not sure which they’ll prefer.

What should I serve while tasting?

A lot of people might think wine tasting is all about the wine, but it’s just as important to have something to go with it! If you’re hosting this kind of party at home, take some time beforehand to plan out what foods will match up best with each type of wine you’re serving.

For a wine & cheese party, serve light appetizers like cheese plates or olives when there are still plenty of gaps between courses so that no one feels too full after eating. Choose flavors that compliment the type of wines. For example, cheese like brie goes great with light white wines, goat’s milk ricotta tastes amazing with bolder whites and blueberries go perfect with sweet dessert wines.

Put together a charcuterie board with cheeses, grapes on the vine, pickles, olives, a few varieties of crackers and prosciutto for an impressive spread that your guests will love. You can also make individual charcuterie board jars or  small plates that are served with each wine, to make sure the tastings match up seamlessly.

It’s also great to have a nice dessert to finish off the night. Try a sweet treat that pairs well with wine like tiramisu or a fruit tart.

Wine Tasting Games

What a party without entertainment and tons of laughs? Take the stress out of planning and grab these fun, printable wine tasting games for a great night that your guests (and you!) are sure to enjoy.

Included are also cards for taking notes and scoring your favorite wines. You don’t have to use all of these games, but pick a few that will work best with the people you invited and your budget. The five page set includes beautiful colors and a list of supplies that make it easy to shop.

Some favorite games included in the printable set:

I’m Going to a Bar- Similar to “Going on a Bear Hunt” this fun game will test your memory and rhythm skills which makes for a hilarious time, especially after a few cocktails!

Straight Face- Try not to laugh when these silly phrases are read aloud. See who has the best poker face as your guests try not to crack a smile.

You’ll need pencils, strips of paper, a bucket or basket (optional) to put the strips of paper in to play this funny game.

Defy Gravity– Guaranteed to challenge your skills, the goal of this game is to keep balloons in the air longer than your opponents!

Prosecco Pong– Classy pong? Yes, please! For this game you’ll need a larger space to set up the plastic wine glasses, ping pong balls, and extra bottles of prosecco.

Heads Up– Using your phone, download the ‘Heads Up’ app to play this guessing game.

Planning a great party

Host a memorable wine tasting party with fun games and provide an opportunity to try new wines. But before you start planning, here are some tips on how to throw a successful party:

  • Choose plate and decoration colors that look nice with wine colors like pink, maroon, red, or even a black or gold accent.
  • Make sure there are enough seats or stools available in each area of the house where people might want to sit down, focusing on the area where games will be played.
  • Invite friends who like similar things as yourself
  • If possible, ask what guests’ dietary restrictions are ahead of time – it’ll save you from having to offer a bunch of different options
  • Don’t drink too much before people arrive! You’ll be stuck hosting things without even being present for half the event. Keep one glass on hand so guests know that they can get something to drink when needed, but don’t add more than two glasses – this will prevent you from becoming too tipsy as well.
  • Keep extra chairs around in case someone has an unexpected guest show up at the last minute. No one wants to feel like you weren’t expecting them.

I hope these tips along with our wine and cheese party games help you plan the perfect night for your friends and family. For more wine and cheese party ideas that don’t break the bank, check out this post for more ideas to make your gathering your guests are talking about for years to come.
