When choosing a group game, there are a few things you should take into consideration. Keep in mind the age of your crew, how many people you have attending the event and how competitive you want the games to be. There are many types of people who can enjoy group games.

Age of the participants

You’ll want to choose a game that is appropriate for the age group of the participants. If working with younger kids, you can pair older kids for harder games. In addition, make any game that is to juvenile a bit harder by adding extra steps or taking down the time to win.

Number of participants

Some games work better with larger groups, while others are more suited for smaller groups. Most of these games can be played in groups of 2 to 20. That’s a huge range. Adapt each game and team count based on the activity and the time you have. If you have a lot of people but some games require fewer people, take four people out of the team. Let them perform the game and then earn points for their team. On the next game, four different people can play. It create team work and gives all the players a crowd to cheer them on to success.

Level of competitiveness

Some people just want to have fun, while others are just wanting to win! The level of competitiveness does matter whenever you’re choosing a group game. In my opinion, the competition only makes it more fun. If you have toddlers or just adults that act like toddlers and can’t take the heat of a competitive, have a participation trophy or prize just for joining in on the fun.

Who are group games best for?

Honestly, there is no one group games are not best for. Group games bring all in into the fun. It eliminates the spectator sport and allows everyone in on the action. For those individuals who do actually enjoy watching and cheering on, drop them in a larger group. They can participate in one of the quickly paced group groups and cheer on their team for the rest.

The following types of groups are great for group games:

  • Youth groups

  • Workplace Team Building Event for Employees

  • Guests at kids birthday parties

  • Ice breakers for strangers

  • Entertainment for adult parties

  • Seasonal parties and group gatherings

Choosing the right group game can be the difference between a fun and engaging activity and a complete disaster. By taking into consideration the age of the participants, the number of people playing, and the level of competitiveness, you’ll be sure to choose a game that everyone will enjoy!

christmas scavenger hunt ideas

Small Prizes

Small gifts are perfect for a scavenger hunt. You can have a small trinket for each scavenger hunt seeker. Christmas party favors or candy canes are perfect to place with each clue. Perhaps your small prizes can be placed together into something larger. For example, have all the ingredients and supplies needed to create a gingerbread house or cookies for Santa.

Christmas Eve Box

You might ask what’s in a Christmas Eve Box? A Christmas eve box is a gift given the day before Christmas. Often it contains Christmas pajamas, a Christmas movie, a Christmas book, hot chocolate and other night before Christmas ideas.

Christmas Presents

If you hold a Christmas scavenger hunt on Christmas morning, consider having a Christmas present with each new clue. This would make a fun Christmas morning activity for the kids and instead of the Christmas tradition of opening all the presents underneath the Christmas tree, you are moving around the house finding a new present with each clue card.

Elf on the Shelf

If you have an Elf doll, an Elf scavenger hunt is the perfect idea. Simply have your Elf on a Shelf bring the first clue and then let your kids hunt for the rest of the clues. You can use the Christmas scavenger hunt below or use a similar treasure hunt meant for an Elf on the Shelf scavenger hunt.

How to Plan a Christmas Scavenger Hunt

The first step in planning a Christmas scavenger hunt is printing a copy of the Christmas scavenger hunt clues. You can download the festive printable PDF here. It contains both clues & an answer key.

Once you have those printed out, you’ll cut them apart and choose which clues work before the the locations you want to include in your Christmas scavenger hunt. You can also make sure the fun last longer by making sure you include more cards.

The cards are Christmas themed with cute patterns and rhyming clues that will take players all through out the house looking for their next clue.

The second step is to place the clues around your house, yard or apartment. You can be as creative as you want with this part. You can make it easy by placing the clues in obvious places or get creative and hide them in harder to find spots.

If you’re hiding the clues inside, we recommend that you put them in locations that are safe and not too difficult to get to. You can also pair teens or older kids with younger children, so all hunters are on an equal playing field.

The third step is to gather your family or group of friends together and explain the rules of the game. You’ll want to go over how many people will be playing, what the goal of the game is and any other important details.

Once participants understand the rules, you’ll be ready to start the game. If you’re playing as a team, when all the clues are found, the team that has found the most clues wins the game.

If you’re playing as an individual, the first person to find all of the clues and make it back to the starting point is the winner. You can even set a stop watch or give a time limit and let each person run the clues one at a time.

No matter how you play, a Christmas scavenger hunt is a great way to get everyone in on the holiday fun.

With these simple steps, you’ll have everything you need to plan your own Christmas scavenger hunt.

how to play Press Conference game for adult party

How to Play: Press conference is a unique party game for adults that can be played with any size group, with hilarious results. One guest holds a press conference, and the other guests get to ask them questions.  Have that person leave the room. Everyone else decides on a character that this person will be in the “Press Conference.” (You could have a bowl of characters or decide together). The person holding the press conference answers the question, but the twist here is that they have no idea who they are supposed to be but the other guests do. The person has to try and figure out who they are from the questions that are asked by the group (while answering those questions!) For example, if Jim went out of the room and we chose for him to be Bugs Bunny, we could ask “How many carrots do you eat a day?” “What fuel do you use for your sleigh?” “How do you hide from Elmer Fudd?” “Do you feel very old?” “Who is your favorite Looney Tune?”

What is Elf on the Shelf?

What is Elf on the Shelf? This is Elf on the Shelf Explained in one minute.  Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition. This holiday tradition has an Elf on the Shelf book and a Scout Elf doll. The Scout Elf book is poetic and in rhyme sharing the purpose of the Elf’s visits.

While Elf on the Shelf lives at the North Pole, he begins visiting families every Christmas season checking on naughty or nice behavior of children. The Elf on the Shelf first visits each Thanksgiving. Each family is able to name their special elf.  Each evening, Scot Elf returns from the North Pole to report to Santa on a family’s behavior. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. You must find him!

It is important VERY IMPORTANT, you do not touch The Elf on the Shelf or her/his Christmas magic will be lost! The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve.

Elf on the Shelf Rules

There are a few rules when it comes to adopting an Elf.

Name your Elf on the Shelf

Give your North Pole visitor a name. Look at our 50+ ideas of Elf on the Shelf Names.

Do Not Touch Elf on the Shelf

Elf looses his magic if he is touched by humans. Do not touch Elf on the Shelf. If you need to move Elf (for example, he/she has fallen) use our Magic Elf Grippers to move Elf. Also read about Elf being touched in the In Case of Elftastrophe an Elf on the Shelf Emergency Guide Book.

Elf Moves at Night

No matter what, Elf cannot move when you are watching. Elf on the Shelf moves at night when everyone is asleep. There may be a few occasion when Elf will need to move during the day when the kids are at school. Sometimes Elves fall asleep too. Look at our list of Reasons Elf Did Not Move plus a tip to make sure he/she moves each day.

Elf Cannot Talk

Elf is always listening, but Elf cannot talk. Tell Elf about your day, about your Christmas Wish List. You can even leave notes for Santa with Elf and he/she will deliver them at night to Santa Claus.

Elf Must Return Home at Christmas

Elf must go back to his home in the North Pole at Christmas. Look for a postcard. Elf might send you mail on his vacation or from his home! Typically Elf leaves on Christmas Eve night with Santa on the sleigh. Some elves stay and watch you open presents, returning to their home with magic the next day.

Can parents touch the elf on the shelf?

Frequently it’s asked, can adults touch Elf on the Shelf.   Parents, it’s important to follow the rules of Elf on the Shelf. Elf must never be touched. However, if Elf has an accident or falls, it is important to move Elf from any dangerous spots (for example, the floor where your pet dog might pick it up.) You can use these Magic Elf on the Shelf grippers, so parents can touch and move Elf on the Shelf without actually “touching” the Elf.

Parents may also use a gloved hand OR if Elf must be touched with the skin of a human, Elf should sit out for another 24 hours.

Attention Parents: See the list of frequently asked questions at the Official Elf on the Shelf Page.

What do I do when my Elf on the Shelf falls on the floor? Download Magic Grippers free Elf on the Shelf printable for your kitchen tongs. This elf printable was especially designed to prevent magic loss allowing an adult to touch Elf on the Shelf after a fall.

Elf on the Shelf Magic Grippers Printable

It’s another year and another season of having an elf visitor. If you are new to Elf on the Shelf, you need a tool to move an Elf on the Shelf doll should a major fall happen. In this post, we provide you with rules for Elf on the Shelf and a resource for moving Elves.

First, when looking for new ideas, visit our Elf on the Shelf Ideas. We also love sharing  Elf on the Shelf Printables including magic grippers.

Kids and parents, let’s talk. It is important to know the Elf on the Shelf Rules. One of the major rules for Elf on the Shelf is Elf must never be touched. If Elf is touched, his magic is lost and he cannot get back to the North Pole to return to Santa.

As a mother of five, I know the fear on kids faces when you found yourself between a rock and a hard place. Our Elf has fallen to the floor. The risk was getting trampled and if we had a dog, we would also run the risk of him getting chewed up. Unfortunately for my family, we had to delicately walk around Elf that one day… we do recall that day until we got this resource!

Tip: Read more about Elf on the Shelf being touched in the In Case of Elftastrophe an Elf on the Shelf Emergency Guide Book.

Can adults touch Elf on the Shelf?

Elf rules are not adjusted at any time. Often people ask what do I do when my Elf on the Shelf falls on the floor? Even with a fall, adults cannot touch Elf on the Shelf. However, because there are times where Elf really needs to be relocated, there are solutions for moving Elf on the Shelf after a fall. You mgiht ask yourself, what do I do if Elf on the Shelf falls. You use Elf on the Shelf Magic Grippers printable. You never use your hand to move an Elf.

Elf on the Shelf Magic Grippers Printable

If Elf on the Shelf is touched, his/her magic is lost to return to the North Pole. Elf can be moved using Magic Elf on the Shelf Grippers. Download your  North Pole Grippers in our FREE Elf on the Shelf Printables.

This printable doesn’t disappoint.  After that one day on the floor, this idea came as a resource to my family when the Elf fell and everyone was afraid to touch him for fear he would loose his magic. It keeps you from touching elf and keeps your kids from freaking out.

Adults attach this free printable to your kitchen tongs.  In our kitchen we have a set of red kitchen tongs which fits the Christmas season perfectly. This makes the tongs specially designed to prevent magic loss after a great fall! That way the next time your Elf falls, no one has to panic about him spending the entire day on the floor!

Want the newest Elf on the Shelf Ideas in your inbox daily in the month of November & December? Sign up here!

We are back, so is the Elf on the Shelf! If you have been with us a long time, you know we have brought you a new Elf on the Shelf Ideas daily (in the months of November and December) for the past six years. You can view our Elf on the Shelf Master List for a full list of ideas including every idea we have ever done.

Elf on the Shelf Prescription Printable

We have four prescription notices from Santa at the North Pole. You can freeze Elf’s activity for two days. Prescriptions included for reindeer flu, a broken leg (from toys not cleaned up), magic lost from touching, and a blank RX for your own creation. Add you own Elf’s name and date.

Shop Elf Prescription Printable Downloads

What makes these Elf prescriptions great is this gives Elf mom the freedom to sit out for two days… by orders of Santa!

Reasons Elf on the Shelf Didn’t Move

We have a long list of reasons Elf on the Shelf didn’t move. Was Elf on the Shelf under the weather? Was bad behavior recognized? Was magic lost from touch?

For our Rx prescriptions, these are the reasons supplied.

Behavioral Warnings:

Broken Leg: No moving for two days. Elf tripped on your stuff. Clean up!

For this Elf prescription, consider unique Elf on the Shelf crutches ideas and grab this pair of miniature doll crutches.

Magic Lost: No moving for one day. Don’t touch elf!

If Elf was touched by mistake or even fell, don’t forget our magic elf grippers!

Cute Elf Idea:

Reindeer Flu: Stay put for two days.

Step it up! If you are really creative, use our reindeer costume. Perhaps dressing as as reindeer gives Elf reindeer flu! See our other Elf on the Shelf Reindeer Ideas!

This makes your life easier because it gives your children a warning, provides a creative elf idea, and/or allows all to rest from the anxiety of “where is Elf now” or “what should I do with Elf!?”

What is Elf on the Shelf?

Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition. The tradition has a book and a elf doll. The book is poetic and in rhyme sharing the purpose of the Elf’s visits. The Elf visits each Thanksgiving. He/She goes and returns from the North Pole each evening. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. The Elf has been found in the refrigerator, fishing in the toilet, writing messages on the mirror or hanging from the lights. It is VERY IMPORTANT, the Elf is not touch each evening or his Christmas magic will be lost! Each family is able to name their special elf. The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve. An Elf’s Story can also be found on DVD.
