Getting Started:

To create your miniature Cornhole Boards, you’ll need the following materials:

  1. The printable Cornhole Board template (download here)
  2. Mini pom-poms or mini marshmallows or cotton balls
  3. A color printer
  4. Cardstock paper or printer paper (this is the best cardstock which is perfect for your printables)
  5. Scissors
  6. Glue or Tape
  7. An Elf Doll

how to make a diy cornhole board out of paper

Step 1: Download and Print Your Cornhole Boards

Start by downloading the Elf Cornhole Board template from the provided link. Make sure to use a color printer for the best results. The boards will fold best with cardstock which will provide them with some sturdiness, though it’s not necessary. Colors will vary based on different printers. Once printed, carefully cut out both the red and green boards.

Step 2: Assemble Your Cornhole Boards

Once but, begin to fold the boards into shape. Use glue or tape to hold the folded ends. If you did not use cardstock, see if you can add extra tape to make them strong. This step will ensure that your cornhole boards can withstand the excitement of the game.

Step 3: Set Up the Game

Place the two cornhole boards in a suitable playing area. Make sure to position them at a reasonable distance apart for the elf-sized game. You can use a table, a countertop, or any other flat surface.

Step 4: Gather Your Mini Pom-Poms, Cotton Balls, or Mini Marshmallows

Prepare your mini pom-poms or mini marshmallows – these will serve as your “snowballs” for the game. Place them in a small bowl or container near the cornhole boards for easy access.

How to Play:

Now that everything is set up, it’s time to start the Snowball Toss game with your North Pole friend.

  1. Each player (not including your mischievous elf – do not touch!) takes turns tossing mini pom-poms or mini marshmallows onto the cornhole boards.
  2. The objective is to land the “snowballs” onto the boards, aiming for the holes. Each hole is worth a certain number of points.
  3. Keep track of the points for each successful toss. You can create a scoring system or use the following as a guideline:
    • Landing a “snowball” on the board: 1 point
    • Tossing a “snowball” into a hole: 3 points
  4. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins a special treat or prize from the family elf visitor

Get ready to make this holiday season even more enchanting with the Elf Cornhole Board game. It’s a fantastic way to engage your little ones and their elf companion in a fun, interactive activity. Whether you choose mini pom-poms or mini marshmallows as your “snowballs,” you’re sure to create cherished memories that will last a lifetime. So, download the printable set, assemble your cornhole boards, and let the festive fun begin! Enjoy your fun adventure, and may your home be filled with holiday joy and laughter.

Not only does he add a touch of magic and excitement to the holiday season, but he also provides a fun way for families to count down the days until Christmas.

Elf Arrivals: Welcoming a North Pole Elf to Your Home

If you’re new to the Scout Elf tradition, you might be wondering where to start. The first step is to welcome your North Pole Visitor into your home. This can be a fun and exciting event for the whole family. Some families like to create a special welcome letter for their visiting friend, while others prefer to set up a special scene to welcome their workshop helper to their new home. No matter how you choose to welcome your Scout Elf, the key is to make it a fun and memorable event that your kids will look forward to each year.

Countdown Calendars: Fun Ways to Count Down the Days Until Christmas

Once your North Pole visitor has arrived, it’s time to start counting down the days until Christmas. There are many fun and creative ways to do this, from advent calendars to daily activities and challenges. Some families like to create a special countdown calendar just for their friend from Santa’s Workshop, while others prefer to incorporate their elves into their existing holiday traditions. No matter how you choose to count down the days, the key is to make it fun and engaging for the whole family.

The Arrival

The Elf on the Shelf is a beloved holiday tradition that brings joy and excitement to children all over the world. One of the most exciting moments of the season is the arrival of The Elf on the Shelf. Here are some creative ideas to make the little guy’s arrival even more magical.

Creative Entrance Ideas

  1. Zip Line: Have the red man arrive via a zip line from the ceiling. This is sure to impress the kids and get them excited for the holiday season.
  2. Balloon Ride: It’s a special delivery! Tie a bunch of helium balloons to the North Pole visitor and have him float down to his landing spot. The kids will love seeing the little friend floating through the air in his own DIY hot air balloon.
  3. Magic Portal: Create a magic portal using a fairy door. The red guy can pop out of the portal and surprise the kids one morning.

These are just a few ideas to get started with The Elf on the Shelf before you jump into a Christmas countdown. Get creative and have fun with it!

Countdown Calendars

Countdown calendars are a great way to build excitement for the holidays and keep track of how many days are left until Christmas. Here are some fun and easy ideas for DIY countdown calendars that you can make at home:

DIY Calendar Ideas

As the festive season approaches, there’s no better way to count down the days to Christmas than with these charming and interactive DIY calendars. From filling Santa’s beard with fluffy cotton balls to crafting colorful paper chains, we’ve curated a collection of fun and festive ideas that will add a touch of magic to your holiday tradition.

Santa Beard Cotton Balls

For this countdown calendar, all you need is a picture of Santa Claus and some cotton balls. Each day, glue a cotton ball onto Santa’s beard until it’s full and fluffy on Christmas Day. It’s a fun and silly way to count down the days. Each day your Elf can deliver a cotton ball with his elf antic.

Toilet Paper Roll

Save up your empty toilet paper rolls and turn them into a festive countdown calendar. Cut them into equal pieces and decorate each one with wrapping paper, stickers, or paint. Then, stack them up and fill them with treats or small gifts for each day. This creates a cute DIY Advent Calendar. The little red friend can deliver the toilet paper roll presents daily. As a fun Scout Elf idea, one extra roll of toilet paper and create a toilet paper roll Elf on the Shelf Countdown where there are a few days left until Christmas. (See more Toilet Paper Ideas with The Elf on the Shelf.)

Cereal

If you have cereal lying around, you can turn it into a fun countdown calendar. Use cereal (fruit loops are great) and write out the number of days until Santa’s arrival with this cereal countdown idea. While you have extra cereal on hand, try this Cereal Magic Trick too.

Paper Chain Craft

Supplies

  • Hidden Elf Treasure Hunt Set
  • An Elf Doll
  • Cardstock or paper (this is the best cardstock which is perfect for your Elf printables)
  • Tape
  • Scissors
  • Printer (Low-cost pick)

How to Set Up the Hunt

First, download your hidden elves treasure hunt set. Print the digital files.

Once printed, you have almost everything you need including your Elf doll.

Cut out the Elves. Hang the missing elves’ poster on the wall. The elves’ pictures are all within the wanted poster.

Lay out the Hidden Elves Scavenger Hunt letter with your visitor from the North Pole in a new spot. Your family elf is delivering the interactive activity.

We can’t give away the entire poem, but it starts like this…

In the midst of holiday cheer, there is a little rhyme,

It’s a festive riddle, just for Christmas time.

Twelve elves are hiding, causing giggles and fun,

Can you find them all? Let’s get this quest done!

Cut out the paper elves. Discreetly place the twelve elves in various spots around your home. Get creative – think bookshelves, under cushions, behind curtains, or peeking out from the Christmas tree.

Adaptions: For older kids, use the entire house. For younger kids, make the hidden elves in obvious locations.  You can announce a perimeter so your entire house is not torn apart.

Options: Enhance the festive atmosphere by adding some holiday decorations or props near the hidden elves. Perhaps some tiny presents, miniature candy canes, fun prizes, and treats, or a gift to make the hunt even more magical.

The Joy of Discovery

Having a Holiday Elf has become a beloved holiday tradition for many families. The concept is simple: a small elf doll is placed around the house each day in December, and children are encouraged to find it. The idea is that the elf is reporting back to Santa on the child’s behavior, so it’s a fun way to encourage good behavior in the lead-up to Christmas as well as promote the Christmas spirit!

But what if you want to take having a North Pole to the next level, that’s where the Treasure Hunt for Elf comes in. This is a fun twist on the traditional Elf game that adds an extra layer of excitement and challenge.

You can host a Christmas Scavenger Hunt where instead of simply finding the elf, children are given 22 Christmas-themed rhyming clues that lead them on a hunt around the house. The final clue leads them to the location of the elf, and they get a special prize for solving the puzzle. Alternatively, just like a pirate, you can offer your kids a fun treasure map where children find different things around the home. This seek-and-find elf hunt can be very challenging or quite easy – you determine based on the ability and age of the child.

The Magic of Elf

ideas for elf on the shelf treasure hunt

Christmas elves are a beloved holiday tradition that has captured the hearts of children and adults alike. The magic of a holiday elf lies in the excitement and anticipation that it brings during the holiday season.

For those unfamiliar with the tradition, a small elf doll arrives at a family’s home in early December. The elf is said to have come from the North Pole to keep an eye on children and report back to Santa on their behavior. Each night, the elf returns to the North Pole to give Santa Claus an update, and in the morning, it is found in a new location within the home.

See Frequently Asked Questions.

Children love waking up each morning to search for their elf and see what kind of mischief it has gotten into during the night. From hiding in the Christmas tree to making snow angels in flour on the kitchen counter, the possibilities for elf shenanigans are endless.

The magical Elf goes beyond just the fun of finding the elf each morning. It also encourages children to behave well and be kind to others, as they know their elf is watching and reporting back to Santa. This can be a helpful tool for parents during the often chaotic holiday season.

This Christmas tradition is about bringing joy and excitement to the holiday season, while also promoting good behavior and kindness. It’s no wonder that this tradition has become a beloved part of many families’ holiday celebrations.

Creating a Treasure Hunt for Elf

Creating a treasure hunt can be a fun and exciting activity for the whole family. It requires some planning and creativity, but the end result is a memorable experience that your children will love. Here are some tips for creating your own at-home treasure hunt with an elf.

Choosing Your Elf

The first step in creating a Christmas treasure hunt is choosing your elf. You can either use the elf that comes with the book or purchase a new one. Make sure to choose an elf doll that fits your family’s personality and interests.

Selecting the Perfect Spot

The next step is selecting the perfect hiding spot for your elf. You can choose a different spot each day or have a designated spot for the entire treasure hunt. Make sure the spot is safe and easy for your children to find. In the case of a treasure map, have your Noth Pole visitor at the starting location – the Christmas tree. Alternatively, have your Elf visitor at the end. In this case, X will mark the spot with Elf in the nativity or with Baby Jesus.

Creating the Clues

The most important part of the holiday scavenger hunt is setting up the clues. In a Christmas Scavenger Hunt, the clues can be anything from riddles to puzzles to clue cards. For a Christmas treasure map, you will have items found around the house (for a challenge) or in one room (for an easy hunt.)

Elf on the shelf treasure map scavenger hunt list

These items that your child will find are:

  • Christmas Cookies
  • Christmas Lights
  • Elf glitter
  • Hot Cocoa
  • One Present
  • Candy Canes
  • Coins
  • Baby Jesus

This is not an editable treasure map template. That means the eight scavenger hunt items are final. If you don’t have something, print out something. For example, if you don’t have candy canes in the house – print out five candy cane photos and hide them around the room(s)/home.

Make sure the hiding spots are age-appropriate and not too difficult for your children to solve. Remember to have fun and be creative when creating your treasure hunt. It’s a great way to create lasting memories with your family.

Enhancing the Fun

printable elf on the shelf treasure hunt ideas

To make the Treasure Hunt even more exciting, there are a few things that can be done to enhance the fun. Here are some ideas:

Incorporating Christmas Crafts

One fun idea to make the Treasure Hunt more enjoyable is to incorporate Christmas Elf crafts. This can be done by having the elf leave a craft project for the children to do each day. For example, the elf could leave craft supplies to make a paper snowflake, a homemade ornament, or a Christmas card for a friend or family member. You can also add coloring pages or a holiday kids’ activity pack. This fun activity will not only add to the fun of the treasure hunt but also provide an opportunity for the children to be creative and get into the holiday spirit.

Adding Festive Treats

Another way to enhance the Christmas Treasure Hunt is to add festive treats. In addition to having fun treasures along the scavenger hunt, the elf could leave a small treat or snack each day leading to Christmas for the children to enjoy. This could be a candy cane,  hot chocolate, or a Christmas cookie. Treasure will make the treasure hunt more exciting, but daily treasure will add to the overall holiday experience.

To keep things organized, it might be helpful to create a chart or table to plan out the crafts and treats for each day. An editable  Calendar will ensure that there is a variety of activities and treats throughout the treasure hunt. Additionally, using bold text or bullet points can help highlight important information and make it easier to read and understand.

Overall, incorporating Christmas crafts and adding festive treats are simple ways to make the treasure map for elf even more enjoyable for children.

Safety Tips for the Hunt

When planning a Kids’ Treasure Hunt for Christmas, safety should always be a top priority. Here are some guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Elf Placement Guidelines

When hiding the elf, it’s important to keep in mind the safety of the children participating in the treasure hunt. Here are some guidelines to follow:

  • Avoid placing the prizes and hidden objects in hard-to-reach or dangerous areas, such as high shelves or near electrical outlets.
  • Make sure the elf is visible and not obstructed by any objects that could cause tripping or falling.
  • Keep the elf away from any hazardous materials or objects that could cause harm… this includes pets!

Treasure Hunt Safety

In addition to elf placement, there are other safety considerations to keep in mind during the treasure hunt:

  • Set boundaries for the hunt area and make sure children understand where they are allowed to search – one room, a few rooms, or the entire house!
  • Ensure that children are supervised at all times during the hunt.
  • Avoid using any small objects that could pose a choking hazard for young children.
  • If using Elf Scavenger Hunt clues or riddles, make sure they are age-appropriate and easy to understand or pair younger children with older children to solve the clues.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday treasure hunt for everyone involved.

Christmas Treasure Hunt Printable Map

The Treasure Hunt is a fun and exciting way to bring the holiday spirit to life. By hiding the elf in different locations each day, children can enjoy the thrill of searching for their little friend and finding surprises along the way.

Incorporate Elves into your holiday hunts. Kids will have so much fun hunting the list of items found on the map that Elf brings. Mom and Dad can get creative with the treasure hunt by leaving clues or small gifts for their children to find. This adds an extra layer of excitement and anticipation to the daily search for the elf.

The holiday season is a time for creating cherished memories and traditions with loved ones. One Christmas tradition that has captured the hearts of families around the world is The Elf on the Shelf. This mischievous little Scout Elf comes alive at night, embarking on exciting adventures and bringing joy to children each morning. While the traditional holiday visitor setup is fun, why not take it up a notch this year by incorporating a construction truck into your The Elf on the Shelf adventures?

How can I stage The Elf On The Shelf in construction sites?

Let’s explore creative and playful ideas to blend the magic of the holiday season with the excitement of construction-themed fun.

The Arrival

To kick off the holiday season, have your Scout Elf arrive in style. Place the little guy inside a tiny construction truck, perhaps with a mini hard hat and safety vest, parked somewhere prominent in your home. A note could explain that the North Pole visitor is here to help build holiday magic.

Scout Elf Construction Site

Transform your living room into a Christmas “Construction Site.” Gather building blocks, miniature construction cones, caution tape, and tiny toy tools. Your Scout Elf can be found overseeing the construction site, perhaps with a clipboard, ready to build holiday cheer. You can also take Scout Elf outside in a dump truck for a super hard place to find the little guy. For a fun idea, make sure you have a Safety Zone sign.

Candy Cane Crane

Build a small crane using craft supplies like popsicle sticks, string, and a candy cane. Your Scout Elf can be found operating the crane, using it to move candy canes or other treats around. This fun setup combines construction play with sweet surprises.

Gingerbread House Construction

Invite your Scout Elf to participate in a gingerbread house construction project. Set up a gingerbread house kit and have your visitor don a tiny apron and chef’s hat. They can be seen “directing” the construction, adding a humorous twist to a classic holiday activity.

Snow Plow Scout Elf

If you have some fake snow on hand, create a snowy scene with toy cars and buildings. Your North Pole Visitor can be placed in a toy snow plow, helping to clear the “streets” after a snowy night. You can also use a bulldozer to move ornaments along the floor. Alternatively, get construction paper, toilet paper, and scissors for a fun snowflake construction scene. It’s a great way to blend the construction theme with winter fun.

Building a Toy Train Track

Set up a mini construction site where your Scout Elf is “building” a train track for toy trains to travel on. Use wooden blocks or train track pieces, and your little red friend can be found arranging them strategically. It’s a delightful way to combine construction and locomotion.

Scout Elf Safety Check

Create a miniature safety inspection LEGO scene with tiny construction signs, cones, and safety barriers. Your Noth Pole Elf can be seen inspecting a lineup of holiday toys or a LEGO build, ensuring they are all up to code for the festive season. A Scout Elf mechanic can also repair a truck using small tools.

Scout Elf Workshop

Turn your The Elf on the Shelf into the head foreman of the holiday workshop, supervising the assembly of toys and wrapping of gifts. Miniature toy tools and wrapping paper can be used to complete the scene. The family visitor can even leave a note explaining the important role they play in making the holidays special.

Construction The Elf on the Shelf Idea

Adding a construction truck to your The Elf on the Shelf adventures can inject a new level of excitement and creativity into your holiday traditions. It’s a fantastic way to blend the joy of the season with the fascination kids have for construction vehicles. As your Scout Elf goes about their construction-themed escapades, your children will be filled with wonder and delight, making this holiday season one to remember.

In this construction, The Elf on the Shelf idea, Scout Elf is playing with construction trucks on a cookie sheet that is covered in Rice Krispies cereal. The Scout Elf is using a bulldozer toy to scoop up the cereal, which is scattered around the trucks. We added a few construction LEGO pieces and our scene is complete.

Supplies

  • The Elf on the Shelf Doll
  • Miniature Construction Trucks
  • Construction Toys
  • Rice Krispies Cereal
  • Baking Tray
  • Optional Idea: Elf Construction Costume

Instructions

This scene is really easy to set up.

  1. Gather your construction toys and Scout Elf doll.
  2. Get a baking sheet in the kitchen and lay down Rice Krispies cereal or another cereal for your Scout Elf construction theme.
  3. If you have a Construction Costume, cut out the materials and dress your little guy.
  4. Stage your Scout Elf on the construction trucks.

Optional: Bring Construction Party Games to your child with this fun idea. You can paly together or with friends.

The entire scene combines the magic of the holiday season with the imaginative playfulness of childhood. It’s a delightful and creative way to blend the concept of The Elf on the Shelf with a construction theme, sparking joy and wonder in young construction truck lovers.

Happy holidays, and happy constructing!
