Before you send out the invitations let’s first start with some amazing cakes with the brick or mini-figure theme.

Lego Birthday Cake Ideas

LEGO Birthday Cake

What could be more classic than the Lego bricks themselves? This brick cake looks just like the blocks and will be a huge hit at your Lego birthday party. Make the frosting any color you’d like, or create a couple of smaller cakes to make bricks in different colors. This cake is made with boxed cake mixes, which saves time preparing for the big day. | In Katrina’s Kitchen

Capture the look of Lego mini-figures in this fun Lego head cake. The fun thing about it is that you can give the head any expression you’d like! It’s easier than it looks to put together; it just requires some patience and time. She recommends using pre-colored fondant to get the bright yellow look. | Ashlee Marie

Really wow your party guests with this incredible Lego block cake that’s covered in colorful bricks and has a fun block design inside the cake as well. This is another cake that uses boxed cake mix to simplify things, which is terrific. Making the blocked colors inside is simple with a checkerboard cake pan set. | Pink When

Finally, if you’re more of a cupcake person, it couldn’t get simpler than these fun and easy Lego cupcakes with a candy melt brick on top or a LEGO minifigure. You can make them any color you’d like and put a bunch of cupcakes together in less than an hour. It’s the perfect idea for last-minute party planners. | Love from the Oven

Lego Party Food Ideas

lego party foods

Make some Lego cheese and crackers for a quick snack. They’re inexpensive to make, and kids will love them. All you need are crackers, cheese, and a small fondant cutter or knife to cut the circles. Easy peasy! | Tonya Staab

Want a healthy snack at your party? Look no further than these Lego frozen yogurt bricks made with fresh strawberries, blueberries, yogurt, and honey. Parents will be thankful to have one less sugary item available! | Surviving a Teacher’s Salary

Turn ordinary marshmallows into fun yellow Lego head marshmallow pops! Grab regular marshmallows, mini marshmallows, yellow candy melts, and lollipop sticks to get started on this simple tutorial for LEGO cake pops. They make great snacks for the party, adorable LEGO cake toppers or favors for after. | Savoring the Good

Serve up some yummy Lego brownies at the dessert table. Use brownie mix or grab a box or two of the Little Debbie brownies to put them together faster. | In the Kids Kitchen

Lego sandwiches are a breeze to make, too. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are popular with kids, but you can do the same thing with deli meat and cheese or even veggie sandwiches if you prefer. Just add the bread circles on top to make them look like bricks. They’d be a great addition to kids’ lunchboxes during the school year, too. | In the Playroom

You can never go wrong with Rice Krispie treats. These Lego Rice Krispie treats are so colorful and fun. Just top your usual recipe with the colorful icing and matching M&Ms to make the bricks. Gel food coloring yields the brightest colors, so make sure you grab gel instead of liquid food coloring. | The Soccer Mom Blog

These Lego cookies look scrumptious, and they’re made from scratch, so you know they’re extra yummy. However, you can probably recreate the idea with pre-made cookie dough and royal icing. | For Modern Kids

Who says you shouldn’t play with your food? These Lego build and play Jello snacks were meant for fun! Make them in all kinds of fruity flavors, and the kids can stick them high while enjoying a jiggly snack. | Passion for Savings

Lego Party Décor

LEGO birthday party décor

For easy party décor, recycle your corn starch canisters to make some cute Lego heads with different faces. Since they’re already the perfect shade of yellow, there’s no painting involved. Just draw on the different facial expressions, and you’re good to go. Better yet, your kids can use these jars to store their Legos even after the party is over. | Organized 31

Build some of your décor out of Legos! It’s such a clever idea. You don’t have to think big… small items like building your own utensil and napkin holder can pack a big visual impact. To keep it permanently secure, add some hot glue and use forever to hold utensils, napkins or even future LEGO supplies and tableware.  | Artsy-Fartsy Mama

Make giant Lego “bricks” with boxes, wrapping paper, and construction paper. You can also create Lego faces by drawing faces on yellow balloons. Both of these ideas are super easy and inexpensive, perhaps check out the Dollar Tree for your decorations! | Desert Chica

Head to the Dollar Store for construction paper supplies. Create a Lego bricks garland using construction paper, tape, a hole punch, and some string. How easy is that DIY LEGO banner? It’s a great way to create colorful party décor without a lot of effort. | A Crafty Spoonful

Lego Party Favors

lego party favors

Our Lego travel case makes an excellent party favor, and they’re not very expensive to put together. Just use discount pencil boxes and Lego tape along with some bricks inside, and you’ve got a fun activity that kids can take on the go and enjoy long after the party is over. | Frugal Coupon Living

Upcycle all your old broken crayons to make some fun Lego man crayons! Talk about inexpensive favors! Aside from purchasing the mold, the little LEGO crayons would be free! Everyone has their own minifigure to go. You can also use the mold to make chocolate Lego figures, too. | Mama Smiles

Use some bricks and colorful yarn to make Lego friendship bracelets for all the party guests. The kids can help make them, but they’ll need an adult to drill the holes in the bricks to run the yarn through. | Kids Activities

For another LEGO party activity, kids will get a kick out of playing Pin the Head on the Lego Dude. It’s a free printable that you can grab for the party and set up in no time. You can use just paper and tape, but if you want the kids to be able to play this over and over, add Velcro tape to the backs of the Lego heads, and place the body on a large piece of felt. That way, it’ll be easy for kids to stick the head on while they’re blindfolded. | Paper Trail Design

Play a game of Lego ball toss to keep the kids entertained! Just cut two or three holes in the top of a painted box for the kids to toss tennis balls into. It’s easy enough for all ages to play, as you can adjust for age by putting the younger kids closer and the older kids further back. Check out the other party ideas here, too. This blogger threw a Lego party for just $17! | Sweet Frugal Life

Set up this Lego race track before the party, and let the kids build their own cars out of bricks and accessories. Then, put those cars to the speed test on the race track. The kids are sure to play this game over and over. | Tonya Staab

This Lego bean bag toss is another fun game the kids can play. This game board is made from a box, and you can make simple bean bags using felt. You don’t need to be a pro at stitching to sew simple bean bags, but you could even use fabric glue if you prefer. | East Coast Mommy

It just wouldn’t be a Lego party without a building challenge, would it? Grab this printable challenge and build a spinner out of Lego pieces to make it extra fun. Give it a spin, set a timer, and see who can build the challenge item the fastest (or the best). | Artsy-Fartsy Mama

We hope you find these suggestions helpful as you plan your child’s next birthday bash.

Halloween Handprint Craft Tips

Because some of the graphics will get covered by your toddler’s handprint, you have options for bringing forth things like the eyes and mouths.

In this set, we’ve given you guides where to place the eyes and mouth. Take a look at these options for how to make them pop!

  • Use Googly Eyes where the eyes go for a 3-D Pop (I personally like this set of wiggle eyes where there are googly eyes of different sizes and colors)
  • Print a second set of the Halloween handprint prints and allow your child to decorate the eyes and mouth. After the hand print dries, cut out the decorated eyes and mouth. Glue and lay on top of the dried handprint.
  • If creating an item with different colors, do this in two steps. For example, paint the palm one color and place on the printable sheet. Once dry, place the finger and apply to the printed sheet. This allows you to add multiple colors without the smudge.

When putting together this Halloween Arts & Crafts, use washable Tempera paint. Print on white cardstock for the best turn out.

DIY Halloween Stickers

To use the stickers, simply print them out on sticker paper and cut them out. Then let the kids get creative!

Halloween Décor

Use them as part of a Halloween decoration. Mamas can hang them up around the house or classroom for a festive touch. Pass the finished craft onto neighbors to hang in their windows. They could make spooky Halloween mantle décor too. Just frame and enjoy.

What do you do for the mother that has everything? I struggle with this every year. While flowers are always the go to, they are a temporary gift. If you are looking for a perfect mother’s day gift that is frozen in time, fingerprint art, footprint art and handprint art is a perfect idea. Mother’s day handprint crafts can be made at home or even in the classroom. In fact, we all can agree a baby handprint and toddler handprint are the most precious thing of all.

So let’s get started. Learn the best paint for making handprint art and then download and enjoy these adorable handprint mother’s day printable cards.

What kind of paint do you use for handprint art?

When making handprint art for mother’s day, it’s important to have the right paint. Especially if you want your product to last a long time. First you must answer the question, what medium is the handprint art going on. Once you have determined if you are using wood, paper, or canvas, you can then determine the paint source. You also want to use a non-toxic, organic paint as you are applying it to your child’s hand.

best paint for handprint art

The following paints can be used on the following sources…

Paper or Cardstock: A non-toxic washable tempera paint will easily stick to paper.

Canvas: Acrylic paint labelled non-toxic is safe to use.

Wood: Milk paint is made of natural ingredients making it the safest choice.

Drywall: Choose a non-toxic interior paint commonly found at Home Depot, Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams.

It is important to wash hands (feet/fingers) immediately after the print is created.

Is there a trick to getting handprint art smudge-free?

Getting the perfect handprint can be a challenge. A few tricks to help a smaller child create a handprint without smudging. Follow these five tips when creating kids’ handprint art for mom.

Tip 1: Have the right paint. When using paper, the best paint for easy clean-up is a non-toxic washable tempera paint.

Tip 2: Use distraction. If you can get an adult or older kids to help you, distract the child while you go through the motions of painting their hand and applying it to the paper. If you do not have as second helper, use an electronic or television to quickly deter their eyes.

Tip 3: Give the handprint artwork a few test runs. Print out extra copies of the mother’s day cards and practice with your little hands.

Tip 4: Use a paintbrush to evenly paint on hand and footprints. Remove excess paint before applying the child’s hand to the printable or canvas.

Tip 5: Lay down the hand very slowly and carefully. Start with laying down the pinky and slowly rolling the hand down on the paper until you hit the thumb. Once all the fingers and palm are placed, press your finger tips above the child’s handprint to ensure no part of the child’s hand is not applied to the paper. When you are ready to lift the handprint off, do this in a reverse motion. Slowly peeling the paper back from the child’s hand.

Give yourself grace. Sometimes the most adorable children’s hand prints artwork is found is in the mistakes. Then years down the road, small smudge might remind the gift receiver of a once-upon-a-time wiggly toddler.

Put a spin on traditional gift-giving with this printable Christmas Gift Exchange Game! It’s more fun than simply wrapping up a gift and sticking someone’s name on it. With this game, you won’t know whose gift (or what’s inside it) that you could possibly end up with!

Christmas Gift Exchange Game

Christmas Gift Exchange Printable PDF - Christmas White Elephant Game Directions

This game is fun for giving gifts where the group of people are similar in age. Like with a sports team, boy/girl scouts, or during a classroom party. That way, everyone will be gifting items that all participants can enjoy.

Fun Christmas Gift Fact

Speaking of gift-giving, do you know why we give our family members and friends gifts at Christmas in the first place? According to Why Christmas?, gift-giving has become a holiday tradition because the Wise men brought gifts to Jesus at birth. He received gold, frankincense, and myrrh when He was born.

Though we give and receive very different presents today, it’s all because we want to remember that Jesus is the reason for the season…and that he was given gifts too.

Getting Ready for Christmas Gift Giving

To get started with this Christmas gift exchange game, everyone should agree on a date for the event. Make it a total evening of fun and laughs with finger foods and desserts, or go all out with a potluck dinner. Gifts are best given after a full belly!

You will also need a spending limit on the gifts you plan to exchange. You wouldn’t want to bring a $10 gift and go home with an item valued at $50! Setting a budget makes the game fair for everyone. Most people will probably be okay with a $25 budget.

Items you could give for this Christmas gift exchange include:

  • Comfy items (Blanket, slippers, cozy socks)
  • A basket full of treats
  • Gift cards to specific stores or restaurants
  • Cute coffee mug that would be meaningful to anyone playing

How to Play the Christmas Gift Exchange Game | Better than a Secret Santa

Playing the Christmas Gift Exchange Game

When it’s time to exchange your gifts, the real fun begins! Incorporate a fun holiday party game. Print the cards on cardstock paper so they will withstand the entire game – and for future years of use, if everyone enjoys playing.

Put the cards in a stack on a table and let everyone gather around with their gift in their hands. Take turns drawing cards and following the directions.

Example directions on the printable cards for this game include:

  • Swap gifts with the person to your left
  • Swap gifts with the tallest person in the room
  • Swap gifts with the oldest person playing
  • Swap gifts with the person whose birthday is next
  • Swap gifts with someone wearing a sweater

The more cards you turn over and follow, the more the gifts will get scrambled up around the room. Once everyone has drawn a card (or 2 cards, 3 cards….however long you want the gift exchange game to last), it’s time to OPEN the gifts!

This game is so fun, it’s easy for it to become one of your yearly Christmas traditions!
