Christmas Party Ideas for KIds

Christmas is a time for family, friends, and fun. It’s also a time for giving, and what could be more fun than throwing a Christmas for the tiny people we love? But sometimes it can be hard to come up with ideas for a Christmas party for kids. If you’re stuck for party ideas, don’t worry, I’ve got you covered! I’ve put together a list of some great Christmas party ideas for kids, so you can make this holiday season extra special.

How do you make Christmas fun for kids?

The winter holiday season is great because there typically are a number of fun activities for kids in December. Create special memories by incorporating fun activities into your every day (or every weekend) calendar. This can be outdoor activities like building a DIY igloo or indoor activities like putting together gifts for your neighbors.

If you are looking for some fun Christmas ideas for the kids, try some of these ideas.

  • Host a Cookie Exchange
  • Create a Holiday Family Bucket List
  • Bake a Cake for Jesus
  • Try a New Christmas Tradition
  • Have a Gift Exchange
  • Decorate the Christmas Tree
  • Create fun Christmas Crafts
  • Write and Visit Santa
  • Have Fun Outdoors
  • Throw a Kids Christmas Party

The most important thing is to make the activity memorable. Events are most remember when they are just a little bit out of the ordinary. Not activity you do every day. Put down the electronics and everyone immerse themselves in the Christmas activity.

In this blog post, we will focus on ideas for a Kids Christmas Party. Many of these fun activities can be incorporated as entertainment.

Hosting the Perfect Kids Christmas Party

Take a deep breath. If you suffer from anxiety at the idea of having a number of people in the home, remember the perfect kids party doesn’t have a set number of party guests. Party guests can be each of your children inviting one friend. Or go large and invite the entire youth group or neighborhood.

kids Christmas party ideas

Whatever your party size, there are plenty of fun ways to enjoy a kids Christmas party. Keep it simple by planning ahead. Get together a theme, activities and entertainment and a list of fun foods to make. Cooking and baking with the kids not only bring fun food to the event, but it provides a number of holiday activities to do with the kids while prepping for the big day.

Choose a Theme

One of the best ways to make sure your party is extra fun is to choose a theme. This will help you plan the decorations, games, and activities and give the kids something to get excited about. Some great Christmas party themes for kids include ‘Ugly Christmas sweaters’, ‘Winter Wonderland,’ ‘Santa’s Workshop’, or ‘A Night at the North Pole.’

Plan Fun Activities

No party is complete without some fun activities! Why not plan some Christmas-themed games or craft activities to keep the kids entertained? Some great ideas include decorating gingerbread houses, making Christmas cards, or wrapping presents. You can even host a White Elephant Gift Exchange or incorporate a few Christmas games.

Set up a Delicious Feast

No party is complete without food! To make sure the kids are well-fed, set up a buffet of their favorite snacks and treats. These don’t have to be hard, in fact easy Christmas snacks for school party allow you to focus on other areas of the party.  For a festive touch, you could also include some Christmas-themed foods such as candy canes or gingerbread men.

Good food ideas for a kids Christmas party might include…

  • Hot Chocolate Station – This is especially great as it allows each person to personalize what they like in hot cocoa. Options include mini marshmallows, bits of peppermint candy, chocolate sprinkles, mint leaves and more.
  • Dessert Table and Cookie Table – Instead of a cookie exchange, ask party guests to bring a dessert or Christmas cookies to share. This creates less stress on the host for baking before the event.
  • Candy Bar – This is perfect for letting everyone choose their DIY snack or even make their own trail mix. It’s fitting to everyone’s taste buds, you can even use a candy bar as a resource for decorating gingerbread houses.

You can incorporate classics, pop or even Christmas carols. If you can handle it,  even gather instruments and have preschoolers or younger kids make their own festive tunes for the party.

How to Choose the Right Group Game

choosing who can play group games
When choosing a group game, there are a few things you should take into consideration. Keep in mind the age of your crew, how many people you have attending the event and how competitive you want the games to be. There are many types of people who can enjoy group games.

Age of the participants

You’ll want to choose a game that is appropriate for the age group of the participants. If working with younger kids, you can pair older kids for harder games. In addition, make any game that is to juvenile a bit harder by adding extra steps or taking down the time to win.

Number of participants

Some games work better with larger groups, while others are more suited for smaller groups. Most of these games can be played in groups of 2 to 20. That’s a huge range. Adapt each game and team count based on the activity and the time you have. If you have a lot of people but some games require fewer people, take four people out of the team. Let them perform the game and then earn points for their team. On the next game, four different people can play. It create team work and gives all the players a crowd to cheer them on to success.

Level of competitiveness

Some people just want to have fun, while others are just wanting to win! The level of competitiveness does matter whenever you’re choosing a group game. In my opinion, the competition only makes it more fun. If you have toddlers or just adults that act like toddlers and can’t take the heat of a competitive, have a participation trophy or prize just for joining in on the fun.

Who are group games best for?

Honestly, there is no one group games are not best for. Group games bring all in into the fun. It eliminates the spectator sport and allows everyone in on the action. For those individuals who do actually enjoy watching and cheering on, drop them in a larger group. They can participate in one of the quickly paced group groups and cheer on their team for the rest.

The following types of groups are great for group games:

  • Youth groups

  • Workplace Team Building Event for Employees

  • Guests at kids birthday parties

  • Ice breakers for strangers

  • Entertainment for adult parties

  • Seasonal parties and group gatherings

Choosing the right group game can be the difference between a fun and engaging activity and a complete disaster. By taking into consideration the age of the participants, the number of people playing, and the level of competitiveness, you’ll be sure to choose a game that everyone will enjoy!

How to Play: In this fun couple game, the challenge is to see what couple knows the other person best. It’s played just like the Newlywed Game but this way couples who have been together for any length of time can take part in the fun. Prepare with a list of questions that take you through dating, engagement and the wedding, firsts, friends, and family, favorites, best and worst, finances, preferences, making love, fun facts, love and marriage, and the future. There’s even a category just for the funniest questions.

I’m Going to a Bar

how to play I'm going to a bar game at party for adults

How to Play: Just like the kid game “I’m Going on a Picnic.” The first person begins by saying, “I’m going to the bar and I need to get a mojito” (or any other alcoholic beverage). After that, the next player repeats the drink that the previous player(s) said… but adds another drink to the list, as well. Game continues with each person adding a drink to the list. You are out if you mess up the order of drinks. Last person standing is the winner.

Supplies: None

Donuts & Cocktail Sticks

how to play donuts and cocktail sticks adult party game idea

How to Play: This perfect game is a bit silly, a bit close. It is similar to pass the orange. Split teams in two. Create a line. Hand your players a cocktail stick, which they’re to put in their mouth. The first player now puts a donut on their cocktail stick and has to pass it onto the next teammate without it falling. No hands. Keep passing along the line. The last player who gets the donut, drops it in a bucket. Any donuts dropped during the passing, go back to the beginning of the line. Team who passes the most donuts at the end of time, wins.

Supplies: Donuts, cocktail sticks
