Take a game night to the next level with this fun 5-second game printable. Each fast-paced party game printable set comes with 156 five-second question cards. This equates to good fun and continuous game time for family and friends!

Do you love to play games with family and friends? If this is the case, then you’re going to love the challenge of 5 Second Games. This mental exercise game isn’t invented by me. However, I do have several versions to complete the entertainment for your themed party.

What is a 5-second game?

The 5 Second Game is a fast-paced and fun word association game. It requires quick thinking and fast talking. In this fun and fast-paced game, you have 5 seconds to come up with three one-word answers. Often, a five-second game is commonly mistaken as a Name 3 game. This is because you have five seconds to quickly name three things.

5 Second Games takes speed and sharp thinking to get points. They’re great for parties, family get-togethers, or just a fun way to spend some extra time with activities between transitions.

What are the 5-second rules?

The 5-second game is a good time. It’s memorable and fun for all. The instructions for this fast-paced game are simple. You have five seconds to name three things in this fun word association game. Sounds easy, right? Well, while the questions are simple, you need to be careful. This quick guessing game leads to a tongue-tie and easy answers turn into silly answers and lots of laughter.

Generally, the rules of a 5-second game are simple. Take a look at these two options for 5-second game directions.

Objective:

Be the team or individual to score the most points by giving three answers in five seconds.

Option 1:

Sit players in a circle. The youngest player is first in the “Hot Seat,” and the play will move to the right. The player to the left of the Hot Seat player draws a game card and reads it aloud. All cards begin with “Name 3” followed by random categories. For example, the Card may read, “Name 3 ice cream flavors”. As soon as the card is read, the first player answers 3 flavors of ice cream in 5 seconds or under. If you say 3 correct answers before the timer, you get one point. To keep track of points, keep the card in front of you. If the player in the hot seat is only able to name one or two answers before 5 seconds are up, they get no points, and the play moves to the right. For the next attempt, the second player gets 5 seconds to try to answer the same question. The tricky part is that the new player in the Hot Seat cannot use any answers that were previously used for that card. Play continues to the next player and around the circle until someone can name 3 in 5 seconds and wins a point. The person to the right of the original player then becomes the new player in the Hot Seat and gets to start with a different card. The player to their left draws a Card and reads it aloud. And so the play continues.

Option 2:

Play the same as option 1 but allow the game to continue. For example, each person after the first hot seat player must name 3 ice cream flavors without repeating any flavors listed before. This can continue for a while.

The end of the game arrives when you run out of cards (or the end of the party – there are a lot of questions here!) Winners will have the most points. You can have individual winners or team winners. Just make sure you have a prize!

Tip: Consider splitting into smaller groups for a large group of people. Since ridiculous answers can be debated, consider having a game host and team captains for each group. The host (as well as the input from team captains) can help decide what is an acceptable answer and quickly omit funny answers.

What are good 5-second game questions?

Five-second games require you to name three things within, you guessed it, five seconds. This requires quick thinking and fast-talking as you react quickly to incoming questions.

Name three countries in Europe
Name three famous actors
Name three colors of the rainbow
Name three items you would find in a kitchen
Name three members of the Avengers
Name three animals that live in the sea
Name three body organs
Name three Florida cities
Name three English words ending in “ly”
Name three sports teams from different countries
Name three famous Michaels
Name three breeds of dogs

The difficulty of the 5-second rule questions can vary based on the game set you choose – junior (or young kids) all the way to adults. In addition, for five-second game questions that have many answers, the question can be passed on to player after player in a game circle.

What do I need for a 5 second game?

The supplies needed for a five-second game are few. you need 5-second game questions like the ones mentioned above and a timer. It’s important that your timer displays seconds and not only minutes. Most smartphones will have a timer you can use to count down from five. if this is not available on your cellphone then pick up a countdown timer with seconds.

Instead of everyone yelling stop, consider using a sound effect when the time stops. This can be accomplished with a timer that makes noise or a game buzzer.

A laminator is an optional supply for your five-second games. If you laminate the set using laminating sheets, you can keep it for a long time. After multiple uses, your cards will still look brand new. After my husband and kids, my laminator is my best friend. A must-have in most homes!

The Shamrock was considered a sacred plant that symbolized the arrival of spring. Four-leaf clovers are considered lucky.
The first, St. Patrick’s Day parade was held on March 17, 1601, in St. Augustine, Florida.
Ireland is known as the “Green Isle” or the “Emerald Isle.”

No, I am not here to tell you any of those fun St. Patrick’s Day facts. In fact, on this fun St. Patty’s Day printable, you won’t find any of those historical St. Patrick’s Day facts. Instead, you will get a really fun activity for the kids to do on March 17th.

What are some St. Patrick’s Day Traditions?

Before we get started on this super fun activity, let’s talk about a few traditions for St. Patrick’s Day. However, there are many fun ways to embrace the traditions of Irish Culture in America.

Wear Green

You must wear green or get pinched! Who truly understands this wearing of the green pinch tradition, just wear the color.

If you really want to celebrate St. Patty’s Day, you must eat an Irish meal. In North America, this typically consists of corned beef and cabbage. You can also try Irish soda bread, beer soup, food dyed green, or one of these many St. Patrick’s Day food ideas.

In some cities, you might find a St. Patrick’s Day Parade. If this doesn’t happen on the 17th of March, look for festivities the weekend ahead or after the exact date. Drink Beer

I don’t know why but did you really need a reason for a pint of Guinness to be a fun St. Patrick’s Day tradition? Beer sales worldwide increase by 174%, making it the busiest time of the year for several bars and pubs in the United States and Ireland. Some pubs will even dye green beer. Celebrate in a bar or at home and incorporate a few pints with a beer flight tasting sheet plus a few fun Beer Games.

A birthday countdown is exciting. It creates anticipation and excitement. Take a look at these ideas for a birthday countdown that includes a buildup of excitement plus adorable birthday countdown gift tags.

Do you know one thing we all have in common? Everyone has a birthday. Some are celebrated more than others (can I get an Amen mamas?) Others are celebrated with sweet touches and thoughtful gifts.

Countdown Ideas for a Birthday

Birthday countdowns are exciting because they are visual representations of the timeline to the big day. They are especially good for younger kids but they can be exciting for teenagers and even adults. Count down the days until the actual date of the birthday or countdown the number of gifts – perfect for a milestone b-day.

In anticipation of an upcoming birthday for an extra special birthday boy or girl, try these Birthday Countdown ideas.

Numbered Birthday Cards

Hit the Dollar store and grab a dozen or so birthday cards. Number them in order and write a special message on each card. The birthday girl or boy can open one birthday card each day until their birthday celebration. Instead of you writing all a dozen messages, have special family members, aquantiences, and friends write messages too. This can include coaches, teachers, friends, and family. Instead of receiving all their birthday cards in one day, they receive them slowly allowing the recipient to savor each message.

Gift Cards For Each Year

Grab gift cards as a build-up to the special occasion. This is especially fun for a milestone birthday. For example, for a ten-year-old birthday present idea, have ten gift cards. Ten days before your child’s birthday, give them a new gift card each day. These gift cards can be small and large all the way from $5 to $20. They don’t have to be the same amount. Or for younger kids, give them a gift card the value of their age. So for a sweet 16 birthday, gift sixteen $16 gift cards. You can have duplicates to places like Amazon or Starbucks if you want the values to add up.

Birthday Advent Calendar

Recycle your advent calendar from Christmas or make your own 12 days of birthday DIY Advent calendar. Turn this holiday-themed decor into a cute and creative birthday countdown calendar. Fill small boxes or bags with a little gift like sweet treats and surprises in anticipation of the arrival of your child’s birthday. You can use these free Advent countdown stickers and make your own DIY countdown calendar for a birthday.

Electronic Countdown Clock

Start a fun countdown clock. This can be done with a birthday countdown internet clock or you can get an interchangeable countdown clock timer that has a face you can change for all your important calendar dates including vacation, retirement, Christmas, and birthday! Your birthday kiddo will love watching the numbers change.

Birthday Countdown Chain

If you were a child of the 80s, you know paper chains. Grab construction paper and cut strips of paper to make your own DIY Countdown Paper Chain. This is a great visual for younger kids and they will love tearing apart the newest chain paper each morning when they wake up each day of their birthday week. On the slips of paper, you can even use markers to write sweet birthday wishes or birthday tokens/coupons for future activities. If making your own chain is not your thing, grab a low-cost birthday countdown chain on Amazon. Just add numbers to each ring so you can watch the days go by and the numbers get smaller.

Birthday Countdown Punch Out Calendar

This idea is super fun and is a play on a punchout advent calendar (as seen in our Christmas Care Packages.) These fun punchout calendars are sold during the Christmas season but you can easily make your own. Glue plastic SOLO cups to a board – anywhere from 10 to 20 cups is the perfect amount. Fill your plastic cups with small trinkets, candy, and/or toys. Cover the opening of your cups with tissue paper. Using rubber bands will easily cover your openings. Number your cups from 1 to whatever. In a gift punch, the person opening the gifts, “punches” the cup in to see what gift they are getting! This is a really fun option for someone who wants to make a birthday even more special.

Birthday Bucket List

Why have a birth day when you can have a birth month? Celebrate the entire week or the entire month of your child’s birthday with a birthday bucket list. Use the ideas we supply or fill in your own family bucket list ideas with activities that are fitting to your special birthday guest of honor.

Numbered Balloon Pop

Hang ten balloons on a string. This can look like balloon garland or you can fill the balloons with helium and have them reach the ceiling. Before you fill the balloons with air, roll a $1, $5, $10, or even $20 bill inside the balloons. You can even add confetti. Each day before the big day, pop a balloon and collected the money! It’s like an individual pinata filled with cash. Watch that wallet fill up with money!

Birthday Box

A birthday box is super fun. This can come in the form of a shipped birthday care package or you can grab the largest, most oversized box you can find – can you imagine a refrigerator box? WOAH! Fill the entire box with your son/daughter/spouse/significant other’s presents. Number these gifts and allow your special someone to open a new present each day.

I don’t know what to call this. Balloon zipline? Sounds good…. Elf on the Shelf Balloon Zipline.

Elf on the Shelf Balloon Zipline

This balloon zipline is quick. You will need to blow up balloons or you can use a handheld balloon pump.

Supplies

The Elf on the Shelf Doll
String
About 10 Balloons (blow up.)
Scissors
Chairs

Instructions

Find a few chairs in your home. Cut a string about seven feet apart (later the string will hang about three to four feet apart.)

On the string, tie a balloon every 8 to 12 inches. Once you have about five balloons on the string, put it aside.

Repeat the process.

Tie your balloon strings to two chairs. Have one string of balloons high and one low.

Hang your elf on the balloon zipline (you might want to tie him on the the strings too – safety first!)

Viola. You are done.

Elf on the Shelf Resources

At Frugal Coupon Living, our goal, to create an easy Elf on the Shelf season for you. This is not our first year of having an Elf in the home. With over eight years of Elf ideas, we have created a rather large Elf on the Shelf fan club full of new Elf on the Shelf ideas. What is Elf on the Shelf?

Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition. The tradition has a book and a elf doll. The book is poetic and in rhyme sharing the purpose of the Elf’s visits. The Elf visits each Thanksgiving. He/She goes and returns from the North Pole each evening. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. The Elf has been found in the refrigerator, fishing in the toilet, writing messages on the mirror or hanging from the lights. It is VERY IMPORTANT, the Elf is not touch each evening or his Christmas magic will be lost! Each family is able to name their special elf. The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve. An Elf’s Story can also be found on DVD.

Get sticky Christmas bows.

Peel the back of the bow off.

Stick to the toilet.

As an option, add tape to better secure the bows.

There are plenty of fun ways the Elf can climb. This one might take the cake when it comes t cute and creative ideas. With the right supplies, I bet you could put this idea together quickly.

Elf on the Shelf Climbing Gummy Bear Rock Wall

This idea makes me smile so much. Do you have one or multiple elves? Create a DIY climbing wall for the Elf on the Shelf.

Supplies

The Elf on the Shelf Doll
Gummy Bears
Poster Board or Foam Board
Markers
Hot Glue
Baker’s Twine (we have used Christmas Twine with Elf many times)

Instructions

Get your postboard or foam board.

Using a marker, right at the top of the board. aka wall, “Gummy Bear Rock Wall.”

Using a hot glue gun, glue gummy bears horizontally on your wall. Let dry.

Once dry, stage yoru elves to climb the wall. Christmas baker’s twine will be very helpful for keeping your Scout Elf in place. You can glue the end of the string to the back of the wall.

So fun! We think your little ones will en joy this idea.
