Keep the Neighborhood holiday tradition with a You’ve Been Boo-ed Christmas Tradition. Spread Christmas cheer with this You’ve Been Elfed and We’ve Been Elfed Printable Set. Makes the perfect Elf on the Shelf idea for friends! Gift with or without a Scout Elf doll.

You’ve Been Elfed Printable

Printable Youve Been Elfed on the Shelf Christmas Tradition for Neighbors

Well this Elf idea strays from the traditional Elf on the Shelf Ideas. Try something different by incorporating the Christmas spirt into your neighborhood with this You’ve Been Elfed Free Printable. It’s the you’ve been booed Christmas version with the magic of a North Pole helper.

See You’ve Been Boo-ed Halloween Version.

What is You’ve Been Elfed?

You’ve Been Elfed (also known as You’ve been Jingled) is a twist on the Holiday tradition of You’ve Been Booed. Consider it the Christmas version of the Halloween boo game. Is a great way to spread Christmas Cheer in the neighborhood during the holiday season. Each participant’s home will get a small basket of treats on the doorstep as the game spreads.

You've Been Elfed on the Shelf Printable Neighborhood Tradition for Christmas

You’ve Been Elf-ed is often done in a neighborhood or office with co-workers. For the neighborhood, drop off a small gift at a neighbor’s door step and in the process ring the doorbell and run. Don’t worry, this ding dong ditch will keep you off the naughty list, as you are playing the role of a holiday fairy. Just like a secret Santa, leave behind a lovely gift on the step.

In this fun game, a neighborly holiday tradition is formed and the process continues. Then the gift receiver then becomes the gift giver. They hang the Elf sign “we’ve been elfed” on their front door, the ring the door bell of another neighbor leaving behind a fun surprise of holiday treats. The fun Christmas Neighborhood Tradition is played down the street creating happy holidays for everyone.

You’ve Been Elfed Instructions

You’ve Been Elfed directions are simple.

Santa’s Elf has come to town
to leave some goodies, you now have found.

Your mission is to spread Christmas cheer,
to friends and family far and near.

Fill a container full of treats and fun,
drop it on the porch and run.

Post this Christmas sign on your door,
to show others an elf has been there before.

Another Christmas tradition has begun,
Thanks for sharing this holiday fun.

Merry Christmas & Happy Elf-ing!

© You’ve Been Elfed Poem exclusive of Frugal Coupon Living.

Weve Been Elfed Printable and Youve Been Elfed Christmas Tradtion

The Elf poem explains the Christmas game. Put together a small holiday gift box or bag and drop it on a neighbors porch. Ring the bell and run. You can leave behind a “We’ve been elfed” sign for your neighbor to hang on their door or the “you’ve been elfed” printable has a URL link to print their own You’ve & We’ve Been Elfed signs. Hanging a “we’ve been elfed sign” alerts a future secrete Santa to not leave a small Christmas gift at that home.

Note: For the sake of sharing the spirit of getting Elf-ed, we photographed with our Elf on the Shelf Doll. You do not need a Scout Elf to Elf a neighbor or friend.  This Elf on the Shelf Poem is simply for sharing the Elf on the Shelf Tradition with other families (without using the Scout Elf doll.)

What to Put in a You’ve Been Elfed Bag

Wondering what to put inside a You’ve Been Elfed gift bag? Make it merry and bright but keep your Christmas gift basket simple for your recipient. This is about staying frugal and low-cost while spreading holiday cheer.

Gift Christmas Candy, make Christmas Cookies, make an Edible Christmas Gift, share a Christmas Book, heck use leftover Halloween candy for all we care. You can even visit the Dollar Tree, Walmart or the Target dollar section.

Just show some Christmas cheer by participating in this Christmas tradition and getting the whole neighborhood involved.

Elf on the Shelf Explained

As a reminder, we share daily Elf on the Shelf Ideas in the month of November and December. You can see all of our Elf on the Shelf Ideas in our Master List of Ideas.

What is Elf on the Shelf?

Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition. The tradition has an Elf on the Shelf book and a Scout Elf doll. The book tells the story of an Elf who is sent by Santa from the North Pole to watch over a boy/girl or family. The elf visits daily during the Christmas season returning back to the North Pole each evening. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. It is very important the Elf is not touched or Elf’s Christmas magic will be lost! Each family is able to name their special elf. The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve.

Today we have an Elf-Themd Games Printable. Have your family elf deliver this printable. It is perfect for parties, the classroom, or small gatherings. Play outside or within the family for social distancing.

The Best Christmas Games printable includes the following Elfed-themed ideas.

Elf Themed Games List Printable PDF

Blind Bluff Elf Game

In a room safe from any breakable objects or dangerous edges, declare one person the blind elf. This person is blindfolded and must walk around ONLY on their knees. All of the other players move around the room trying to avoid getting tagged by the Blind Elf. However, during the whole game, all players except the blind elf must sing an agreed-upon Christmas song. Once a player is tagged, they become the blind elf and the game begins again.

Santa’s on the Rooftop Game

This game has one person who will be the “leader.” The other players all lay on their backs in a circle. The players all agree on a “keyword.” For instance, Candy Cane. The leader than begins calling out places that Santa might be like, Santa’s in his workshop. At the end of each of the caller’s sentences all of the players shout back, “SANTA!” For example, “Santa’s on his sled” SANTA. Santa’s flying over my house. SANTA. At some point, the leader says the keyword OR incorporates the keyword into his phrase…”Santa’s in Hawaii eating Candy Canes.” All of the players lying down must jump up. The last one to jump up is the new leader.

Naughty or Nice 4 Corners Game

Choose a room with four available corners for standing. Using paper, label the corners 1, 2, 3 and 4. One person is chosen as IT and goes outside of the room. IT stands in the doorway with his/her back turned towards the room and counts to 20. All of the players go and stand in a corner. At the end of counting, IT chooses a number and says, “Everyone in corner 2 is NAUGHTY.” All of those players then sit in the middle of the room and are out. The remaining players then change corners while IT counts again. The game continues until there is only one player left on the NICE list.

Elf Ears Game

One person is chosen as the Elf and they sit on the floor blindfolded. All of the other players join hands and walk in a circle singing a Christmas Song like “Jingle Bells.” At the end of the song, the circle stops moving and the Elf in the middle uses his/her Elf Ears to try and identify the person in the circle directly behind them by name. If they get it wrong, they stay in the middle. If they get it correct, the person they named becomes the new Elf Ears.

Head Workshop Elf Game

Gather 10 (or more) Christmas objects from the house and place them in a row. One person is named Head Elf and stands facing away from the objects with his/her eyes shut. While the Head Elf counts to 10, one of the players should sneakily take one object and then return to sitting with the object behind their backs. All of the other players put their hands behind their backs as well. The Head Elf then turns around and tries to see what has been taken from Santa’s Workshop AND guess who took it. If they guess both correctly, they get to choose the next Head Elf.

Elfie, Alfie, OOH OOH Game

Choose one person to hide a small object in a designated room (a touchable elf doll works great for this!) At least one part of the object must be in plain sight. The other players then come into the room and look for the object. When they find the object they shout, “Elfie, Alfie OOH OOH!” A variation for older kids is that the finders don’t GET the object, they just shout the phrase when they see it. Other players keep looking until everyone has shouted Elfie Alfie OOH OOH.

Keep Cold, Snowman Game

One person controls a music player. The other players collect one less pillow than there are players. These pillows are placed all over the floor. The other players are snowmen trying to keep cold on the “snow piles”(pillows). When the music begins the snowmen start leaping from pillow to pillow. When the music stops, the snowman without a pillow melts and takes over the music. Also, look at our North Pole Helper Ideas with Games. This includes Elf Ideas you can do for your Elf Doll.

It was a bit surprising for me to see The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition Book only without The Elf on the Shelf doll and box. In fact, we know the Official The Elf on the Shelf doll comes with the book and box, never alone and never in a color other than red!

What is The Elf on the Shelf Book About?

The plot of The Elf on the Shelf book describes how Santa’s “Scout Elves” visit homes and watch over day-to-day happenings. The red elves leave to visit the North Pole every night and then go back to their assigned home each morning. By hiding in a new spot each morning, the Scout Elf plays an ongoing game of hide and seek with the family.

In order to get their magic, The Elf on the Shelf explains that Scout Elves get their magic by being named and being loved by a child. At the back of each book, families have an opportunity to write their name and the date that they adopted it. Once the little guy or gal is named, the Scout Elf receives its special Christmas magic, which allows it to fly to and from the North Pole.

But careful. Scout Elf’s magic might disappear if the North Pole visitor is touched. So only one rule for The Elf on the SHelf must be followed – do not touch little friend. The story ends on Christmas Day with The Elf on the Shelf leaving to stay with Santa for the rest of the year until the following Christmas season.

Where can I buy The Elf on the Shelf Book?

Let’s take a minute and chat. Are you sitting down? Perhaps with a nice beverage beside you? Take a sip and let me tell you about how you can get out of your Elf moving responsibilities.

It’s been a long road. I mean since the first day your Elf arrived, you were already wondering when was going to be the last day you moved your elf – right?

What age should you stop the Elf ? Honestly, Santa’s helper can be used with preschoolers and with older kids. The Christmas Elf tends to end around preteen years. I have been moving the Elf for eleven years in our home (over ten years on the blog.) I often get asked, what do you do when your child is done with Elf? Well, though I haven’t come to that problem in our home I have come to a solution. The Holiday Elf exit strategy is an…

Retirement Letter for The Elf

Elf Retirement Letter When You are Done with Elf on the Shelf

Once you are ready to stop the Christmas tradition, gently let your son or daughter know your Elf has to move on. This holiday elf letter kindly shares with your child what a great job they have been doing. They are giving a congratulations on being assigned to the nice list and no longer need an elf visiting their home. In fact, some new families are struggling and need a visit from their family elf.

This goodbye Elf letter (passing you the tissues) retires Santa’s helper from your family’s elf duty responsibilities. The letter for elf has a male and female version (so you can choose the most fitting letter for your home – do you have ab oy or girl elf?)

Use this letter at the end of the Elf season, perhaps close to New Year’s Eve when your Elf returns to the North Pole.

Take a look at these Good-bye Elf Ideas. You can pair these last night elf deas with this goodbye printable letter of retirement.

Start A New Christmas Tradition

It’s okay to move on from Elf. Even if your child still believes in the magic of the season, there are other ways to create Family Traditions for Christmas in your home.

Printable Christmas Gift Exchange Game

Put a spin on traditional gift-giving with this printable Christmas Gift Exchange Game! It’s more fun than simply wrapping up a gift and sticking someone’s name on it. With this game, you won’t know whose gift (or what’s inside it) that you could possibly end up with!

Christmas Gift Exchange Game

Christmas Gift Exchange Printable PDF - Christmas White Elephant Game Directions

This game is fun for giving gifts where the group of people are similar in age. Like with a sports team, boy/girl scouts, or during a classroom party. That way, everyone will be gifting items that all participants can enjoy.

Fun Christmas Gift Fact

Speaking of gift-giving, do you know why we give our family members and friends gifts at Christmas in the first place? According to Why Christmas?, gift-giving has become a holiday tradition because the Wise men brought gifts to Jesus at birth. He received gold, frankincense, and myrrh when He was born.

Though we give and receive very different presents today, it’s all because we want to remember that Jesus is the reason for the season…and that he was given gifts too.

Getting Ready for Christmas Gift Giving

To get started with this Christmas gift exchange game, everyone should agree on a date for the event. Make it a total evening of fun and laughs with finger foods and desserts, or go all out with a potluck dinner. Gifts are best given after a full belly!

You will also need a spending limit on the gifts you plan to exchange. You wouldn’t want to bring a $10 gift and go home with an item valued at $50! Setting a budget makes the game fair for everyone. Most people will probably be okay with a $25 budget.

Items you could give for this Christmas gift exchange include:

  • Comfy items (Blanket, slippers, cozy socks)
  • A basket full of treats
  • Gift cards to specific stores or restaurants
  • Cute coffee mug that would be meaningful to anyone playing

How to Play the Christmas Gift Exchange Game | Better than a Secret Santa

Playing the Christmas Gift Exchange Game

When it’s time to exchange your gifts, the real fun begins! Incorporate a fun holiday party game. Print the cards on cardstock paper so they will withstand the entire game – and for future years of use, if everyone enjoys playing.

Put the cards in a stack on a table and let everyone gather around with their gift in their hands. Take turns drawing cards and following the directions.

Example directions on the printable cards for this game include:

  • Swap gifts with the person to your left
  • Swap gifts with the tallest person in the room
  • Swap gifts with the oldest person playing
  • Swap gifts with the person whose birthday is next
  • Swap gifts with someone wearing a sweater

The more cards you turn over and follow, the more the gifts will get scrambled up around the room. Once everyone has drawn a card (or 2 cards, 3 cards….however long you want the gift exchange game to last), it’s time to OPEN the gifts!

This game is so fun, it’s easy for it to become one of your yearly Christmas traditions!

  2. Spin the spinner (or roll the dice to see who goes first.) The largest number goes first followed by the person to the left of the first player.
  3. Take turns spinner the spinner. Go the number of spaces as the spinner shoes.
  4. If you hit the bottom of a ladder, climb to the top. If you hit the top of a slide, slide down to the bottom.
  5. The first player to square 100 wins. You can roll a number larger than your last number of squares to win. For example, if you are on square 96 and spin the number 5, you can go to square 100 to win.
