Tips for Young Kids: Toddlers and young children do not have to stay up until midnight. You can still reenact a kid-friendly countdown just in a shorter period of time. For example, make the hour change every 10 mintues or 30 minutes based on when you start and want to end. Obviously, they have no idea of the real time. It can still be a memorable day and family tradition with earlier hours.

How to Play Charades

Charades can be played with any type of word or phrase. There are two sets of rules for charades games. You can play based on points or based on time.

Charades based on points

Split into two teams. On each teams turn, one person acts out a topic for their teammates to guess.  They cannot use any words. Use a clock to track the time, giving each person two to three minutes for their turn. If the team guesses the charade in a set amount of time, give the team one point. If they do not guess correctly, they get zero points added to their score. At the end of all the rounds, the team with the most points wins.

Charades based on time

Split into two teams. On each teams turn, one person acts out a topic for their teammates to guess.  They cannot use any words. Use a clock to track the time, giving each person two to three minutes for their turn. If the team guesses the charade in a set amount of time, at that time is added to their score.  If they do not guess correctly, the full time is added to their score. At the end of all the rounds, the team with the shortest time wins.

To get started, make a list of 10-15 Thanksgiving-themed items that can be found around your house or back yard. This can be a team scavenger hunt race as teams compete the finish the challenge in the allotted limit. Instead ditch the time limit and keep this Thanksgiving scavenger hunt checklist as an individual task where the goal isn’t to race but only to finish.

  • A pumpkin
  • Scarecrow
  • An ear of corn
  • Leaves

Once you have all the slips of paper ready, hide them around your house or yard. Make sure to put the first slip of paper in an easy-to-find spot so that kids know where to start looking.

As with the indoor scavenger hunt, explain the rules and then let the kids loose to search for all the Thanksgiving-themed items! Bring fun and laughter with this Birthday Scavenger Hunt for kids and adults. Create a new family tradition or use at a Scavenger Hunt Birthday Party to collect presents with these 20 Birthday Treasure Hunt clues.

Birthday Scavenger Hunt

We love ideas to twist up the traditional family birthday. By doing something out of the ordinary, you create “special moments” when celebrating the birthday of a loved one. Add birthday breakfasts, flood a bedroom with balloons, or organized a birthday parade! These unique moments, because they are out of the ordinary, create a filed memory in one’s head.

If you’re looking for a creative and fun way to celebrate your child’s birthday, then consider planning a birthday scavenger hunt! It’s a fun twist on traditional gift giving and makes getting birthday presents so exciting.

Scavenger Hunt Birthday Party

Birthday Scavenger Hunt Ideas can be done with family and/or friend. In fact, add this activity to your child’s party for a fun adventure and party game that their guests will always remember. The best part is that your child gets to work with their friends to solve the birthday riddles to find the clues that lead to their gift. Once all the presents are gathered, sit down and have fun opening them with family and friends.

birthday scavenger hunt clue 1

Here’s how the birthday treasure hunt works:

To pull of the best scavenger hunt party idea, you need to do a little prep.

Schedule: Scavenger hunts can be done anytime during the kid’s birthday party, or as a closing activity that will keep all of your guests entertained to the very last minute.

What you need: You’ll need this Birthday Scavenger Hunt pdf, scotch tape, and gifts with clues attached to each.

Set up: Print the pages out on cardstock with a color printer. You’ll also need to cut out the individual scavenger hunt clues and attach them to items in your house that all lead back to where you will hide the birthday gifts. If you have 15 birthday gifts, use 15 clues. If you have more than 20 birthday gifts, have two gifts at one clue setting.

Rules:  To make this work in a party setting, you’ll want to explain the scavenger hunt rules to the kids and remind them that they will work together to find all of the clues in order to find the birthday presents. Working together will be a great way to teach teamwork, problem solving, and planning skills. No to mention, building excitement about the gifts!

Time: Include a time limit for the kids to find the birthday presents so that everyone is kept on their toes. A time limit of 20 or 30 minutes works well, especially for opening presents.

Now it’s time to get started.

Here’s an example of how it’s done:

The first clue is: It is your birthday and we have a lot of clues. The first one is found where you put your shoes. After reading the clue aloud, the kids would think through where they put their shoes and go to that location, such as by the front door.

how to have a birthday scavenger hunt party

Next up: At this point, you might be tempted to stop. Keep going and look in the place where at night you plop. Once again, read this clue aloud and send them on their way to find the next one, in this case their bedroom bed!

Remember to scatter the clues out so that no one finds all of the clues in one location. Kids follow each clue to find a new gift. Travel from the washing machine, to the play room, utensil drawer, bedroom and more.

Each at home scavenger hunt clue should lead to another in a fun, exciting game of ‘hot and cold’ so that the kids are searching all over your home for clues.

At the last clue is a great place to have the goodie bags for all of the kids. When the clue searching is done, the birthday scavenger hunt gets really fun because it’s time for gifts and cake! Have the kids gather around the table and enjoy their hard work with ice cream, treats at each spot, and lots of cake!

There are so many ways to celebrate a child’s birthday, but this Birthday Scavenger Hunt is such a creative and memorable idea that your birthday child will love. Planning this for your kid’s next birthday celebration could be just what you need to make sure everyone has a blast! Have fun and enjoy your child’s big day.

What is Grandmillennial Style? The word Grandmillennial blends together two words, Grandmother and Millennial. It is a decor style that creates living space bringing old-school design trends with a fresh spin for the 21st century. With these Grandmillennial Decor Ideas, let’s make granny chic, grand!

Grandmillennial Style

I am coming here to confess. I have fell down a rabbit hole and this hole has lead me more time on Facebook than I care to admit. Bear with me, let me explain.

I joined a group called Grandmillennial Décor on Facebook and there was not getting out. Yes, I could easily click the “leave group” button, but I was becoming transported in time, and ideas, and the nostalgia of my grandmother (and apparently everyone else’s grandmother too!)

What is Grandmillennial style?

To quote someone, Grandmillennial is Granny Chic. It’s modern traditional. Ranging in age from mid-20s to late-30s, Grandmillennials love home decor with a traditional aesthetic. Heirlooms are precious and preserved, but not in the farmhouse style that embraces greys or the shabby chic style that loved chipped paint. Grandmillennial love loud prints and bright colors. Finishes are flawless.  Living spaces are in impeccably styled.

Included in the throwback aesthetic of Grandmillennial style are rattan furniture pieces, floral wall paper, blue & white ginger jars, brightly patterned prints, floral drapes, pink roses, needlepoint, bird cages, wicker, boxwoods, scalloped lampshades, and shinny lacquer finished dressers. On display are monogramed pillows and your grandmother’s China.

How do you turn a farmhouse home into a Grandmillennial home?

Before your go throwing out all your gray paint, chipped furniture, and farmhouse style home decor, read this first.

Farmhouse decor includes rustic/chippy finishes, signs with words, barn door motifs, cotton stems and rusty metals and burlap. These are the finishes to change out. You can keep some of your neutral and gray colors, but make sure you add a pop of color too. Transform an off-white room with a happy color like a kelly green accent wall. Pull out your family heirlooms and polish them to shine. Finish chipped painted furniture with a lacquerer finish. Opposite of chipped furniture, lacquer paint has a glossy, mirror-like finish and when done by a professional, is absolutely not streaky

To continue to transform from farmhouse to grandmillenial style, buy and sell. When your budget is small, swap out pieces you no longer like with pieces you love by buying and selling on Facebook Market Place. Many people are looking to get rid of their grandmother’s antiques and others are craving the farmhouse furniture you no longer want.

Examples of Grandmillennial Style

Let’s take a look at examples of Grandmillennial decor. From Grandmillennial living rooms, Grandmillennial paint colors, Grandmillennial bedrooms, Grandmillennial furniture and more.

Remember, the most meaningful homes tell a story. Pull out those anqitues, it’s time to get granny chic!

Author note: In Grandmillennial decor, you will see Asian elements with a European interpretations. Examples of descriptions include the term chinoiserie, which comes from the French word chinois, or “Chinese.” Also recognize elements of blue & white canton china patterns, for dining china and ginger jars. These decor pieces do not come directly from Asia but are instead a European interpretation of Asian culture and decorative arts.

This Grandmillennial entry way from Randi Garrett Design is simply styled with some of my favorite ginger jars and a blue hydrangea bush. Gather a few items you love and create a simple vignette to welcome guests into your home. Find a similar detailed wreath in antique French style with laurel leaves and ribbon.

Learn how to decorate with Chinoiserie. You can take your blue and white temple jars to the next level by adding elements of flowers, feathers, and greenery like Casa Watkins Living.

Grandmillennial Bathroom

The easiest place to begin your Granny Chic transformation is in the half bath. It’s a smaller space that can typically be transformed with a bird and floral wallpaper print. Pottery Barn never disappoints when it comes to home decor, look how they transformed this small half bath into a beautiful Grandmillennial bathroom with a mirror, wall sconces, and a printed wallpaper.

Beach Theme Scavenger Hunt

With so many cool things to see on the beach, this beach treasure hunt is certain to be a blast. Just create a list of treasures, split into two teams, and see who can find all the items first. Make certain that you add some fun and wacky things that you’d only be able to find on the beach.

Supplies: paper, pencil, beach scavenger hunt list

Mini Golf

You don’t need a golf course to play golf. Just bring a few clubs from home (or pick up some cheap ones at a second-hand store) and make the beach be your course. Dig a hole in the sand and put or put a few cups out to try and hit the balls into. Use your creativity to play just like a real round of golf where the person with the lowest swings wins.

Supplies: cups, golf ball, golf clubs

Squirt Ball Relay

The quicker you are here, the better. Grab a blown-up beach ball and a squirt gun full of water and see who can use the water from the squirt gun to push the ball across the sand to the finish line. Don’t worry, you’ll more than likely run out of water and have to run to the water and fill up during this time!

Supplies: beach ball, water gun

Beach Towel Parachute

The concept of this game is fun and addicting. Have a beach ball in the middle of a beach towel. Have two people hold the tall and use it to bounce the beach ball up and down. The more bounces, the better because if it hits the ground, you have to start counting all over again.

Supplies: beach ball, beach towel

Musical Towels

The same rules apply here as musical chairs but you use towels instead. Lay the towels out on the sand, have the music playing, and let everyone walk around and do their best to scramble to a towel once the music stops!

Supplies; beach towels, radio/music player

Beach Bowling

Put those empty water bottles to good use. Line them up in the sand and then use a ping pong ball and try to knock them down. Can you do a strike? Only time will tell!

Supplies: empty water bottles

Shell Shuffle

Who can balance the shell the best? All you need to do is balance dry sand on a spoon and place a shell on top and the race is on. Who can carry the shell back and forth the quickest without it falling off?

Supplies: shells, sand, spoons

Hole Sand Hole

If you’ve ever played cornhole, you’re going to have a leg up on this game. Start by digging five holes into the sand and make certain to give them a bit of space in the sand as well. Use a ball and do your best to fit the ball into the holes so start racking up the points.

Supplies: balls

Flick n Sticks

This game is fast and fun to set up! All you need are 4 sticks/stakes, 4 cups (2 pairs of the same color), and a frisbee. Put the stakes in the sand several feet apart from one another. (You can decide the distance and can easily shorten or lengthen it as needed.) Split into teams of 2 and have each team stand at a stake. Take turns tossing the frisbee back and forth with the main goal of getting points. Points are earned by throwing the frisbee in between the 2 stakes and extra points are also earned for knocking the cup off the stakes as well.

Supplies: stakes/sticks, cups, frisbee

Frisbee Golf

Who says you need a frisbee golf course? Just set out some fun beach items and use your frisbee to toss and get as close as you possibly can. The one who throws the flying disc closest wins that “hole”.

Supplies: beach items, frisbee

Water Bucket Relay

Such a fun water challenge to play! Grab a cup and a couple of buckets and get geared up. Each person takes the empty cup, runs and gets water in it, then takes that cup of water and runs to the empty bucket to fill it up. The first person or team to fill their bucket wins!

Supplies: plastic cups, buckets

Beach Blow

It’s time to get down on your hands and knees and dig! Take a spoon or a small shovel and dig out a path. Then drop a ping pong ball into the groves, grab a straw, and blow your air through the straw to move the ping pong ball down the path. If you don’t want to dig two paths for competition, just set a timer and see who can complete it the fastest.

Supplies: spoon/small shovel, straw, ping pong ball

Hot Potato

Since you’re on the beach it just makes sense to pass around a beach ball instead of a potato, right? Have everyone sit in a circle and start passing the ball around while the music is playing. Be quick and careful with your passes as the person who is holding the beach ball when the music stops is out of the game.

Supplies: beach ball, music player

Sponge Relay

Just how much water does a sponge really hold? You’re about to find out. Have sponges in a bucket of water at the start line, and an empty bowl at the finish line. Once “go” is said, each person then has to grab a soaked sponge, sprint down to the empty bucket, squeeze out the water, then head back to do it all over again. The team who fills the empty bowl overflowing with water first wins!

Supplies: sponges, bowls

Beach Ball Relay

Air up those beach balls and get ready to run. Have each team line up, one behind each other, and get ready. The first person grabs the ball, sprints to the other end of the beach, and then sprints back to hand off to the next person in their relay line. The kicker? If the ball gets dropped at any point in time, they have to start over and do it again!

Supplies: beach balls

Pass the Water

Do you have what it takes to not spill a drop? Have teams line up in a row and give the first person in line a cup of water. Once “go” is said, the person holding the water cup full of water has to hold the cup over their hand and pour out the water into the empty cup of the person behind them. Do this until the entire team has done it and then see what team has the most water in the final cup!

Supplies: cups

Wet Shirt Relay

Line up the teams and get ready to “wring” out some fun. Have a bucket with a t-shirt in it, ready to go. The first person in line grabs the wet shirt and sprints across the beach to an empty bucket or bowl, waiting to be filled. The person wrings all the water out of the shirt and then takes the shirt back to the next person in line who starts the process again. The first team to fill the bucket with water wins!

Supplies: beach bucket or bowl, T-shirts
