Sunday Habits for Busy Moms to Have a Productive Week

These Sunday habits for busy moms will help you stay productive all week long!

It’s no secret that moms lead a busy life. Whether you have one child or four, stay at home or work outside of it, there is always a list of things you need to do. And those lists never seem to completely go away. You mark off four tasks, and suddenly two or three more come up.

In order to stay (somewhat) on top of your busy schedule, you need to stay productive. You can do this by establishing good habits on Sundays. A typical calendar may start a week on Sunday, but most feel that Monday is actually day 1 – Monday is the first day of a new work week and it’s when the kids go back to school after the weekend, etc.

Sunday Habits for Busy Moms to Have a Productive Week

Productive Habits on Sunday for Busy Moms

There is a good bit of “planning” and “doing” that should happen on Sundays if you want your week to go well. Let’s look at what needs to be planned every Sunday.

Sunday Planning

  • Goals
  • To-do list
  • Meals for the week
  • Outfits
  • Family budget
  • Exercise

Where can you keep all these plans? In The Busy Mom Binder of course!

The goals can be for yourself and for your family. Do you want to declutter the attic this week? Make a plan! Maybe little Johnny needs to sell 25 more candy bars for a fundraiser. Make a plan on how he will do it! Use the goals to help make your to-do list for the week.

The rest of the planning is self-explanatory, but deciding on these things on Sunday makes the entire week run smoother. No more washing clothes the night before your child needs to wear something specific to school the next day. No more “what are we having for dinner??” every night either!

Sunday Doing

With your planning finished, it’s time to do some things to prepare for a productive week. Here are some things you can do to lessen your weekly load.

  • Grocery shopping and meal prep
  • Clean and organize home
  • Clear out your email inbox
  • Wash and put away laundry
  • Go for a walk
  • Practice self care
  • Go to bed early

Doing these tasks ahead of time removes a lot of the guesswork or late-minute busyness that may come during the week. Meal prep can save you 30 minutes or more of standing in the kitchen on a busy Tuesday night. Doing up the laundry ensures everyone has fresh clothing to wear and that the planned outfits are ready to go.

To help you remember the important Sunday habits for busy moms, I’m offering a free printable list for my readers. This printable makes it easy for you to get all the Sunday tasks done so your week can be super productive. Print the list and keep it in your Busy Mom Binder or on the fridge – somewhere you will reference it each weekend.

I’ve also included a printable motivational quote from Mark Twain that says, “The secret of getting ahead is getting started.” These Sunday habits allow you to do just that. Not only are you getting started, but you are getting things done so that you can prepare for a smooth week!

I also have more Busy Mom Hacks if and you need them! Pin to Pinterest.

How to Trap Elf on the Shelf in the TV

We are back, so is the Elf! If you have been with us a long time, you know we have brought you a new Elf on the Shelf Ideas EVERY DAY (in November and December) for the past five years. For many of these idea, make sure you have an elf that can bend. You can do that easily with our Bendable Elf on the Shelf tutorial.

Supplies Needed:

  • Elf on the Shelf or Elf on the Shelf Boy Girl Set
  • Smart Television
  • YouTube App

How to Trap Elf on the Shelf in the TV!

You will need a Smart TV for this Elf on the Shelf Idea.  Your television will need to have the YouTube App. We searched on the app “Elf on the Shelf Caught in TV.”

The Video on YouTube You are looking for is Elf on the shelf – Boy – Trapped in the TV by Aaron Holm. This is a ten minute loop, so it is probably something you will set up right before the kids come down and then accidentally “turn” the channel before that 10 minute time comes up. I am not sure it will repeat over and over if you do not. I believe it will go to the next YouTube Video which might be an Elf on the Shelf video geared toward parents and not kids – meaning showing tricks and ideas!

Once you turn the channel, I would act shocked and go “oh no, where did the Elf go?” Then just play that you can’t find him and let your kids know that you “hope he returns tomorrow!”

Don’t forget that you can also trap Elf on the Shelf in your phone or trap Elf on the Shelf in your computer!

We love sharing FREEBIES! Print these FREE Elf Costume and Notes Printables by entering your email address below. It will arrive in your inbox!

We like to share a few weeks leading up to Thanksgiving, when Elf comes, to give you idea and then we like to join you with ideas when the Elf arrives in your home.Pin Pin Pin, because you will want to stay up to date on these ideas each Christmas season. We have many more ideas to come, see our previous Elf on the Shelf Ideas. Here we have a lot of FREE PRINTALBES!  That is our goal, to make Elf easy for you! Be sure to also follow the Elf on the Shelf Pinterest Board for fun ideas from other bloggers too.

What is Elf on the Shelf?

Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition. The tradition has a book and a elf doll. The book is poetic and in rhyme sharing the purpose of the Elf’s visits. The Elf visits each Thanksgiving. He/She goes and returns from the North Pole each evening. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. The Elf has been found in the refrigerator, fishing in the toilet, writing messages on the mirror or hanging from the lights. It is VERY IMPORTANT, the Elf is not touch each evening or his Christmas magic will be lost! Each family is able to name their special elf. The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve. An Elf’s Story can also be found on DVD.

We Had a House Fire | My Busy Mom Solution

July 8, 2020 by Ashley at Frugal Coupon Living Filed Under: Amazon, Hacks, Online Shopping

published date: July 08, 2020
modified datt: July 08,2020

I wanted to share with you my life lesson to hopefully become something that helps you and your family in the future – might even save someone’s life.

As some of you know, we moved in the middle of March. I quickly had an alarm system installed and decided not to go with the alarm systems smoke detectors. Instead I had an electrician come out for work and when he was out here, I had him look at our smoke detectors. I also replaced all of our smoke detectors batteries.

Smoke Detector Tip: Put 9-Volt Batteries on your Amazon Subscribe & Save every 6 months. That way you are reminded to change your smoke detectors twice a year!

We Had a Home Fire

Last week, I was home alone working. The kids were at the park, the cat and I were sitting in my office. All of a sudden the smoke detectors went off. Typically, my first instinct is to assume the battery. Only I smelt it. Something was burning. Immediately I called 911 and ran to a neighbors house to drop off our cat. The neighbor ran back with me and he shut down the electricity and HVAC circuit breakers while we tried to trace the source of the fire. We couldn’t find it and assumed the attic due to the top floor having the most odor.

After the fire department came out, we discovered our instincts were correct and the HVAC indoor unit had a small electrical fire in the attic. My neighbor shutting down electricity was the right thing and aided in changing our outcome.

House Fire in the HVAC Unit

Busy Mom Tips

The point of my email is to share lessons that I learned to help you too.

Lesson 1: Shutting Down the Electricity

First, if you are in a safe situation and you can access your home circuit breaker panel(s), flip the entire unit off. In our case, the breaker was the farthest thing form the electrical fire.

Lesson 2: Get Alerts When You Are Away

Second, I am not always home. I wanted a future solution in case I was out. I called my alarm company and they installed smoke systems that will alert my alarm company (the same detectors I declined before) and me if a fire occurs. Perhaps your alarm system has this type of smoke detector too.

Mobile Alert Smoke Detectors

Don’t have an alarm system. No worries. there are smoked detectors with mobile alerts. You could pick up this one I found on Amazon in my Home Store. This smoke detector sends text alerts to your phone if the smoke detector goes off.

A more expensive option is the Google Nest Protect smoke detector. It will also send an alert to your phone if the detector goes off.

If this fire happened while we were away, 911 would not have been called until it was visible to neighbors and at that point, maybe too late!

Lesson 3: Reminder – Smoke Rises

Lastly, I re-learned is that alarms are best at the highest point of the home (where ours went off) and at stairwells, as smoke rises.

All is okay. Shutting down the electricity prevented the electrical fire from continuing and spreading. The fire was contained in the unit. Our ceiling, roof and attic are otherwise okay. Want to know what I grabbed (other than the cat)? My computer. Only my computer from which I write you now.

Chances are if I was not home, our house would not be here today! Grateful to be able to write you all this email today. Quick thinking, Quick acting. My my lessons become future fire prevention for you!

Disclosure: I am not a fire expert, please contact your local fire department, your local electrician or the American Red Cross for fire safety tips.

Bake and Take Recipes

Bake and Take Recipes for Meal Trains and Meal Exchanges

Bake and take can mean one of many things. It can be an opportunity where people get together for a meal exchange. A bake can take can be an easy recipe for a new baby meal train. It can be a meal recipe you for bringing dinner to neighbors who have medical issue or are experiencing tough times.

Whatever the reason, we have the best bake and take recipes for parties, meal trains, neighbors and friends.

Bake and Take Party

Fist let’s address a Bake and Take Party. This is most appropriate when you are not in quarantine. Similar to a cookie exchange, only a meal exchange. Invite 5 to 7 people (too many people can be quite challenging.)

For a meal exchange party, each person brings the same dish x number of times. For example, for five people, each person brings the same meal in five different disposable foil pans. Exchange meals among friends and at the end of the night, go home with five different dinners for your family. This meal exchange can be done by prepping or baking the dish ahead.

Another option for a take and bake party is you bring your ingredients. Together, friends can sip wine and prep five dishes. Each person goes home with a meal prepared that they can make later that week for their family.

Bonus if your final bake and take meals can be frozen for easy prep on a busy night. For for a take and bake recipe exchange party, you will need Freezer Bags and/or Aluminum Disposable Pans.

What is a Meal Train

I meal train is an effective way to organize meal giving to a person or family for births, surgeries, illnesses and during tough times. A friend group or family community comes together to coordinating dropping off a home-made meal for a family who could use help.

If cooking is not an option, alternatively, you could coordinating restaurant delivery (like pizza or a local restaurant) or send a restaurant gift card for the person/family to use at their own time and need.

Mealtrain.com is a great resource for creating a group meal sign up, organizing meal giving, and scheduling meals to a calendar.

Bringing Dinner to Neighbors

If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s the importance of those in close proximity like immediate family and neighbors. Bake and take recipes are great for neighbors. You can rotate the responsibility of meals, each person assigned a different night of the week. You can also, bless an elderly, sickly or a neighbor in trouble with the gift of a home cooked meal.

Bringing Dinner to Elderly Neighbors

Consider hosting a bake and take party for the neighborhood or create a meal train for a neighbor who could a little extra help.

Social Distance Meals

Let’s take bake and take a step further. During quarantine and times of distancing, social distance meals are an option. Again, choose 5 to 7 people and each person is assigned a day.

The social distancing parties can work one of two ways. Let’s use our party of five people again.

Social Distance Meals

Option 1

Each person is assigned a day. On your assigned day, that person prepares (and bakes) five of the same dinners. They drive to five separate houses leaving the dinner on the step or front porch. This gives each party goer five nights of meals, only preparing dinner one night.

Option 2

Similar to a meal train, each person signs up for one day to bless a friend/neighbor in need with a meal. That person is assigned the job of putting a meal on the porch for the calendar date they have scheduled.

Bake and Take Recipe Ideas

For bake and take recipes, it is very important to know allergy and diet restrictions. We looked for easy recipes, casserole dishes, or throw in the oven meals that were free from many common allergies. Before hosting a bake and take party or meal train, get each persons dietary restrictions and any foods for which they may have an allergy.
