Flashlight Scavenger Hunt

Outdoor Flashlight Scavenger Hunt Printable for Kids

If 2020 has taught us anything it has been to create family traditions and to be more creative with our time. Thinking outside the box has taught us to make new memories.

Did you know? Memories are created when something different happens. Have you noticed how quickly the days and weeks fly by when you are in the same old routine. When you change up that daily routine and add in something different, you have created a memory in your child’s mind. It  is a bump in the road on their walk of life and creates something they look back on – that can be good or bad. Why not create more bumps in the road that are good.

One way to change up a routine week or weekend night is to add in a Flashlight Treasure Hunt.

Outdoor Flashlight Scavenger Hunt

Flashlight Scavenger Hunt Printable + Outdoor Scavenger Hunt Ideas

Take your traditional family game night out of the box with this Night Scavenger Hunt idea for kids. This scavenger hunt is very basic. What makes it fun for Family Camping or Backyard Entertainment is that it’s out of the norm. You child will love waiting for the the sun to set and pulling out their flashlight. You can take this scavenger hunt on a trail, to a campsite or use in your own yard.

This flashlight hunt is a free printable. Participants can be of all ages. The outdoor scavenger hunt checklist makes it easy for younger kids, just have an older kid guide them on what the words say. They can direct the flashlight beam of light toward the object and then check the box.

For a fun twist, it’s easy to turn this into a photo scavenger hunt too, just take along your camera or cell phone and make a checkmark when you capture the item in a photo. If you want to adapt this outdoor scavenger hunt at night to teens, take this challenge at twilight when the light is just right. Turn this into a photo scavenger hunt. While the kids will finish this treasure hunt rather quickly, you can vote on best photographs for the win! If the mall feels like the wilderness (filled with wild animals – aka teens) also consider our photo scavenger hunt for teens at the mall.

When taking the flashlight scavenger hunt challenge, make your evening family activity even more fun, trying paring this adventure with even more fun by adding in S’mores Campfire Cones or learn How to Color Flames in a Fire (in our overnight camping tips.)

Use on an overnight camping trip or slumber party.

Erase cries of “I’m bored” with a list of Kid’s Road Trip Games for the Car. You can download this free printable Road Trip Scavenger Hunt to keep the kids busy until you reach your final destination. Honk if this makes you happy!

Road Trip Scavenger Hunt

Road Trip Scavenger Hunt

Keeping the kids busy in the car is a lot easier than when we were growing up, no? Between game systems, tablets, e-readers, audio books and movies, it’s easier to get fewer and fewer complaints of “I’m bored!” Of course, when it is uttered, we all have a long story of “Let me tell you what it means to be bored. When I was growing up….”

While your kids might have plenty of resources for staying distracted in the car, we wanted to provide you with some newer ideas to keep their minds fresh, to keep family engaged, and to just go back to some of the original “old school” resources of a paper and pencil.

Road Trip Games for the Car

Before embarking on a road trip (Or any travel for that matter), I try to pick up at least one or two new items. This often includes road trip games. Having something that is new 1.) buys time learning the game 2.) kills time enjoying the game 3.) and often gets reused because it was … well, enjoyable.

How to Play Road Trip Scavenger Hunt

We created a collection of Printable Scavenger Hunts for Kids, but one thing that was missing was a Road Trip Scavenger Hunt. Take a look at this printable game as well as Road Trip Games in the car for the kids.

Our road trip scavenger hunt is general enough, it can be played on most any adventure. You can make the game your own identifying your family’s rules and directions or follow these directions for how to a play road trip scavenger hunt.

Directions

Each player gets their own printable game board. Set the game for a certain amount of time (30 minutes, one hour, the entire trip.) As you travel down the road, check off items you see on your journey. You must identify the object out loud before checking it off. Once that object has been identified by the first player, the same object cannot be used to check off another players box. They will need to find that same object in another place. For example, if player A finds a deer they announce “deer” and check it off on their scavenger hunt printable. All other players must wait to find another deer before they can check it off. The first person to check off all their scavenger hunt boxes wins or the  person with the most checks at the end of the time limit, is the winner.

  • Easter Eggs wrapped in Aluminum Foil (for a space rock treasure hunt!)

Space Themed Party Games

Enjoy these seven space themed birthday party games including Star Light, Astronaut Challenge, Asteroid Crash, Alien Capture, Musical Planets, Planet Grabber and Space Pilot Practice.

Star Light

Choose two kids to be the Star Catchers. Have the other kids line up in two straight lines on opposite side of the playing area. One star catcher yells, “Star Light, Star Bright.” The other one yells, “How many stars are out tonight?” As soon as they say that, the other children try to run to the opposite line without getting tagged by the Star Catchers. The children who are tagged are out. As soon as all of the “stars” are caught, the game begins again.

Astronaut Challenge

Put candies or small prizes into a shoe box. Tape the edges shut. Wrap the box in many, many layers of wrapping paper, aluminum foil or newspaper. (Silver would be great!). Gather “astronaut gear” including some sort of hat, gloves, goggles and something to hold in each hand like a spatula or wooden spoon. One player has a pair of dice. When the timer starts, the player to the left of the child with the dice has to put on all of the astronaut gear and try to unwrap the astronaut box using only the tools. The other child is rolling the dice trying to get doubles. As soon as they roll doubles, they get to have a turn. The first player takes off all of the gear and the second player puts it on. The player to the right will then roll the dice and try and get a turn.

Asteroid Crash

Print off different “challenges” and roll them up inside of different colored balloons. Challenges could include things like: Jump 50 times on one foot, sing the alphabet backwards, etc. Turn on space music and tell all of the kids they have to keep the “asteroids” (balloons) from crashing to the floor. Stop the music and call out a color of balloon. The child holding that balloon pops the balloon and reads the challenge. If they complete the challenge successfully then they get a prize. Play again until every child has a prize.

Alien Capture

This game needs a willing older sibling or parent to help! Have them wear an alien mask and give them a bag of candy. Have several hula hoops around the yard. The alien runs around and the children try to lasso the alien by throwing the hula hoop onto them. To get released, the alien has to throw a handful of candy to the kids.

Musical Planets

This is a musical chairs game with a twist. Instead of chairs, set up balls that are sturdy enough for kids to sit on (one less than the number of kids playing). These are the planets. Have the kids walk around the balls while music is playing. When the music stops, All of the kids try to sit on a planet. The child who doesn’t get a planet to sit on is out of the game.

Planet Grabber

Put a hula hoop on the ground with balls inside of it (one less ball than the number of children). Play space themed music and have the kids walk in a circle around the hula hoop. When the music stops, all of the kids try and grab a “planet” (ball) from the hula hoop. The child without a ball is out for the next round. During the next round, remove another ball from the hula hoop.

Pilot Practice

Hang hula hoops from a tree (or ceiling) at varying heights with point values assigned to each hoop. Have each child make a paper airplane (or have some already made). Set a timer and see who can accumulate the most points by piloting their space shuttles through the hoops.

Follow these space game instructions to perfect your party or print a copy to have it accessible during your celebration.

You can’t get much more all-American than football… except for maybe this football toss! The concept is pretty simple—toss the football through the holes to score points. The smaller hole is more points, of course. This is one for all ages to enjoy. | Cherished Bliss

Kids and adults alike will love this Outdoor Tic Tac Toe game. It’s a bigger, outdoor-friendly version of the classic game. All you need is a wooden plank and some flat rocks to make your own tic tac toe board and game pieces. You could even use a larger board to make your own Checkers board. | Sustain My Craft Habit

If you watched The Price is Right growing up, you’ll remember Plinko. This DIY Plinko game is just as much fun, and it’s easy to put together with foam board, glue, toothpicks, and a few other simple materials. You don’t even need power tools to make this game! | Happiness is Homemade

The 3 hole washers game is a lot like cornhole, except that you only score points when the washer lands completely in one of the holes. The first team or person to 21 points wins the game. This DIY Cornhole Game another great choice for reunions or camping. | My Crazy Good Life

This giant beer pong game is lots of fun. With big red buckets instead of Solo cups, it may just take you back to your college days. Stack for easy storage before you put away. | Drugstore Divas

Add this rainbow paver hopscotch game to your backyard to let the kids get some exercise whenever they’re feeling a little restless. You can color coordinate them with your outdoor space if you’d like, but the rainbow colors look so fun. | Happiness is Homemade

Have you ever heard of Kubb? It’s also called Viking Chess or Skulls and Femurs. Sounds pretty tough, right? The game is actually loads of fun once you learn how. Each game requires 2-6 players, and the game goes by quickly, so it’s easy to rotate people in and out if you have a crowd. | Our Handcrafted Life

This ring toss game is extremely portable, so it’s a good idea to take it with you wherever you’ll have a bunch of kids playing together outdoors. Again, this is a simple game that toddlers and preschoolers can play as well, so it’s perfect for all ages. It’s also pretty inexpensive to make. | Mom Endeavors

This DIY ladder golf game, or ladder ball, is easy to assemble or disassemble, making it a wonderful choice for camping trips with the family. The poles come apart and can be laid flat for easy transport and storage. Toss the bolas (the balls tied together) at the rungs of the ladder. Each rung is worth a certain number of points. In ladder toss, the first to 21 without going over wins! | Homemade Heather

If you’ve never played pick up sticks, you’re missing out! It’s an easy game, but it can be so much fun, especially when you’re playing with kids. The object of the game is for someone to drop the bundle of sticks, and then you take turns picking up one stick at a time without moving any others. It’s harder than it sounds. If you move any other sticks, your turn is over. | Delineate Your Dwelling

Get twisted up and tangled up in a game of backyard bubble wrap Twister. You can find large rolls or sheets of bubble wraps on Amazon or sometimes in the moving and packing supplies at your local home goods store. Use one of the large sheets to make a fun game of backyard twister. Use paper plates to trace the circles and color them in. It’ll be a hoot listening to the bubble wrap pop as you play. | Chica Circle

Don’t forget we have a fun shaving cream Backyard Twister Game in our Visual Summer Bucket List Ideas.

Nearly every Southerner has played horseshoes at least a time or two in his or her life. It really is entertaining when you play as pairs. You can easily build your own horseshoe pit in the yard to play this fun game yourselves. And yes, you do need a pit to stop the horseshoes. They’re quite heavy, and you don’t want them flailing along the ground very far! Turn your own backyard into a game pit to paly time and time again. | Creatively Southern

For another cheap and fun game to play with a group of kids, this bowl bean bag toss is perfect. This reminds me of the Grand Prize Game on the Bozo the Clown show. What fun! | One More Moore

Of course competitive games, always need a winner. Declare a winner or victory amoung the opponents with some of these fun trophies or MVP medals. What’s your favorite outdoor game?

Kids Party Games (For the Classroom Too!)

July 8, 2018 by Ashley at Frugal Coupon Living Filed Under: Birthday, Education, Facebook, Games, Instagram, Kids, Pinterest, Social Media 4 Comments

Creative Kids Party Games for your celebration, no matter the occasion! These children’s party games are great for birthday parties, outdoor celebrations, or even the classroom! Warning: there’s tons of fun ahead with these kid party games!

Kids Party Games (For the classroom, too!)

Kids birthday parties can take some serious thought and work to plan. You are typically in charge of a pretty sizable group of kids, and things can go south VERY quickly if you can’t keep them busy! The more guests you have, the greater the potential for chaos. The best solution to prevent any boredom is to pack the party’s schedule full of engaging kid party games.

Our last birthday party for my daughter’s 10th birthday went really well, and it’s all thanks to extensive planning.
