Candy Dot Tutorial and Recipe

Candy Dots were a huge party of my childhood. My brother and I would sell lemonade on the golf course on Saturdays and then run to the corner store to use our quarters to buy these delicious candies. Being able to share these tiny candies with my children provides me a way to reminise and pass down this childhood favorite. Use this FREE Candy Dot Template and have fun making these timeless treats with your little ones.

Ingredients:

1 Pasteurized Egg White or 1 tbsp Meringue Powder
2 cup Powdered Sugar
1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract (optional)
Food Coloring
FREE Candy Dot Template (see below)

Directions:

If you are using meringue powder, use 1 tbsp meringue powder and 3 tbsp water in plave of egg white.
Whisk egg white until frothy.
Slowly add powdered sugar until incorporated and peaks form.
Add vanilla flavoring if desired.
Divide equally into as many bowls as you want to color.
Add one drop of color at a time to each bowl to achieve desire color.
Beat until color is uniform.
Transfer each color to a zippered sandwich bag.
Print dot paper template and place under each paper you will be piping onto as you do it.
Clip a very small tip off of one corner of each bag and pipe dots onto unprinted sheets.
Allow to set for 2 hours before cutting strips apart.

Muffins with Mom Printable Invite

Hi five to muffins with mommy. I loved this celebration with my little kids every time it rolled around during the season of Mother’s Day. Below are some free printable invites for Muffins with Mommy. Fill out and enjoy. We suggest printing them and using a glue stick to paste them to cardstock or construction paper to boarder the outside.

We also wanted to provide an easy chocolate chip muffin recipe, in case dad is in charge of recipe or two! We love this chocolate chip muffin recipe.

Ingredients:

2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup white sugar
3 teaspoons baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup almond milk (or regular milk, we like almond)
1 egg
1/3 vegetable oil
1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips

Optional: white sugar and brown sugar.

Directions:

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.
Line your muffin pan with cupcake liners or baking cups.
In a bowl, combine flour, half of the sugar, baking powder, chocolate chips, and salt. Mix well.
In a separate, larger, bowl, place milk, oil, and egg. Whisk together.
Slowly place your dry ingredients and mix into your wet ingredients until dry ingredients are moistened.
Fill your baking cups a little over 3/4 full (not too much – we like them to be large, but not over flow!)
Bake 20 to 25 minutes until slightly brown on top.
Enjoy

Optional: Combine 3 tablespoons sugar to 2 tablespoons brown sugar and place on top of the muffin before baking.

Chocolate Chip Muffins with Mom

Cook Mode Prevent your screen from going dark

Instructions

Going from having the kids daily over summer to a 7+ hour school day, is a bit exhilarating but also a bit saddening. I admit there is a point in the day where I think about what are they doing, how are they feeling, did they finish their lunch, etc. During the school year, one of the best ways I connect with my kids is school notes – they love them too! Sometimes I find my older daughter packing my younger child’s school lunch and tossing in a note so that she feels special. It truly is a pick-up.

I have a drawer full of school notes. We offered these Back to School Free Printable Lunch Notes and I have picked up others too. You can print it out on paper and toss after use or laminate them and use them over and over. The paper ones are easy to write a note on the back, the laminated ones hold well in the lunch boxes for re-use. I attach a post-it note to them so I can add my own special message.

Directions:

1.) Download your FREE Lunch Notes (see below).

2.) Print on an 8 1/2 by 11 paper (card stock is my preference)

3.) Optional: Laminate using a home laminator. (This is is the Scotch Laminator that I have.)

We love our Teachers and want to gift them with something that shows how much we appreciate their time and dedication to our kiddos. Most teachers get mugs filled with candy and while that’s also a lovely gift, we wanted to make something with a little more ‘pop’! That’s where this Movie Night Idea came in. One of our favorite things to do as a family is rent a Redbox movie, pop some popcorn and relax together. We figured our teachers would love that too! It’s becoming that time, the end of the year. I have been in three places at the end of the year. I have been the student, the teacher and now I am the parent. As a student, I didn’t comprehend what I was leaving behind. I had amazing educators but I never walked out of the door in tears. As a teacher of 5th grades, I had such sadness seeing my babies walk down the hallway the last time, they had grown up and I was letting my baby birds fly. As a parent, having been in the previous place I have gratitude toward my children’s teachers. I know how much they care for my girls and I know how important their students are. With that, I want to thank them any and every way I can.

We love this end of the year printable – Thank you for PUSHING me to do my BEST this year! We find this to be the sweetest and a thoughtful gift to accompany anything else.

Supplies:

White Card Stock
Spray adhesive or glue stick
Scissors or 2.5 hole punch
Assorted Push Pins
Bead Stacker (we got ours at Hobby Lobby)
Optional: Ribbon

Cut circles with scissors or use a 2.5 hole punch if you have one.

Press cut image onto the top of your container.
Tie with a ribbon and enjoy!

What is Elf on the Shelf?

Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition. The tradition has a book and a elf doll. The book is poetic and in rhyme sharing the purpose of the Elf’s visits. The Elf visits each Thanksgiving. He/She goes and returns from the North Pole each evening. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. The Elf has been found in the refrigerator, fishing in the toilet, writing messages on the mirror or hanging from the lights. It is VERY IMPORTANT, the Elf is not touch each evening or his Christmas magic will be lost! Each family is able to name their special elf. The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve. An Elf’s Story can also be found on DVD.
