How to plan a graduation party at home can be a bit of a challenge. First, it’s not a life event that happens every year but when it does, it’s very special and you want to make guest of honor feel very important. Host the best graduation party with some fresh ideas. These 11 fun graduation party games and hilarious activities will create the graduation party of your dreams. Congratulations grad!

School’s out… for summer! School’s out… forever! – alright, alright. You don’t have to keep singing, Alice Cooper. We all know the next verse is I’m bored to pieces and we have the perfect solution for an end of the year party for your grad!

Graduation is a special time to celebrate the accomplishments of the graduate. It’s also a time for family and friends to come together and enjoy each other’s company. If you’re looking for some graduation party games or creative ideas, we’ve got you covered.

Graduation parties can sometimes feel like anything but a celebration. Guests tend to break off into their age groups, chat, and eat a few appetizers. The younger crowd might stand around in the backyard laughing and snacking. There’s usually a divide in the group that doesn’t feel like a good time.

Whether you’re celebrating high school graduation, preschool graduation, kindergarten graduation or even a college graduation, we have some fun ideas that will get guests of all ages interacting and having a blast.

Backyard Graduation Party Ideas

If the weather is nice, expanding your party to include the outdoors, is a great way to have a little more space when planning a graduation party at home. A backyard graduation party theme can be decorated in such a cute way too!

Hang those adorable lights, circle up some chairs, and make cozy spaces for your guests to gather. You might even want to set up a fire pit or use a pop-up tent to set the area up for an outdoor party.

More of the best outdoor graduation party ideas include…

Graduation Party Decorations

The first thing to consider when staging a party is the graduation party décor.  it doesn’t have to be difficult and you can decorate with things you have like your grad’s gown, cap and tassel. Also create a table of photos throughout the life of your grad. School photos could finally be put to great use. Balloon garland is pretty trendy and can easily be found online. It makes the perfect backdrop an a really cute graduation party decoration. Black, gold and white are a perfect color pallet or show some school spirit and use your school colors.

Outdoor Lighting

Outdoor lighting really established the ambiance. Borrow lost of extension cords to get this accomplished. We really cute night lighting ideas for the backyard and deck or grab your upcycled Christmas lights and string, string, string. This outdoor grad party decor is very low-cost.

Drink & Food Bars

Full tummies create happy guests. If you want to save money, save elsewhere. Food is a must but you can come up with some low0cost graduation party food ideas. Using folded tables, create food bars. Great ideas are a dessert table with cute finger food like mini cookies or no-bake diploma cookies. A popcorn bar also keeps the budget low and allows everyone to add flavors and candies they like. A drink station can be simple. Toss glass bottles or soda cans in iced galvanized buckets. Easy-peasy.

Photo Booth

Memories are kept best when captured on camera. You don’t have to spend a fortune and hire a party photographer. Instead, create your own DIY graduation photo booth with a few graduation photo booth props.

Music

Of course adding a karaoke machine, dance floor and band could be quite fun, but you can keep it simple with a graduation party playlist. Don’t spend too much time on this. Using Spotify, Apple Music or Amazon Music should quickly create a playlist for you. Ten songs you will definitely want to include to your graduation party playlist are…

  1. Graduation (Friends Forever) by Vitamin C
  2. Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life) by Green Day
  3. We Are Young by Fun feat. Janelle Monáe
  4. Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield
  5. School’s out for Summer by Alice Cooper
  6. Firework by Katy Perry
  7. Photograph by Nickelback
  8. The Climb by Miley Cyrus
  9. Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey

Graduation Party Games

Now that your space looks great, let’s talk activities. Planning graduation party games that get your guests up and interacting is a great way to make your party a memorable one.

Here are some fun grad party games that will keep your guests entertained:

Diploma Relay Race

This game is perfect for a backyard graduation party! Have guests form groups of two and get into a line shoulder to shoulder. Place a diploma between the pair, and race to get across the finish line fastest. Drop the diploma, and you have to go back to the start. Oh did we mention, this is a game where you can’t use your hands? Better get creative!

Toast to the Grad

Is it even a backyard party without an obstacle course game? In this speed test, players will race with their wine glass filled with water around the obstacles to be the team who fills their bucket the fastest. Be sure to have plenty of towels on hand!

Name That Tune

Take a walk down memory lane as guests try to guess songs from the graduate’s years in school. This game is perfect for those who love to sing along and don’t want to get as active.

Memory Bank

This might be the best part of your party… Gather up the tissues and have each guest fill out a great memory they have of the graduate. Have the grad read through the cards and try to guess who wrote each one.

This is also a great way to gather cards that the graduate can read later or even take with them as they move into their new stage. If you prefer, you can do words of wisdom instead. You really can’t go wrong with either idea!

Pass the Parcel

This game is so fun if you are generous with the Saran Wrap parcel party favors. Fill your plastic wrap ball with full size candy bars, smarties candy, and a great prize in the center. The winner has the ball at the end of the game once all the layers have been removed.

The Key to Success

This game is quite tasty. If you have heard of a pie eating contest, you will love this game. Fill a pan with shaving cream and dig around the find the key… but guess what!?! Your hands are behind your back.

Dip-Low-Ma

Grab some balloons and see if you can keep them in the air! Dip it low and pick it up slow… man, I feel on a roll with throwback songs. I mean, if you hare a graduation playlist, this is a song to add and play during this fun game. Include more songs that fit the graduation year and theme and add them to the Name that Tune party game.

Are you Smarter than a Grad?

Alright smarty pants! This game is adults vs the kids. From pop culture to academic questions, see if which generation can declare they are smarter. The winners will get the most correct answers.

Charades

Split up into teams with an equal amount of players. In this classic game, similar to Taboo or forbidden words, act out themed words and see if your teammate can guess the word.

Steal the Cap

Divide players again. This is a perfect outdoor party games. Similar to steal the bacon, steal the grad cap (or baseball cap).

Don’t Drop the Tassel

In this fun game, pass a graduation caps tassel from the first player to the next. Split players in equal teams and get the tassel from the front of the line to the back. What’s the catch? You can’t use your hands. You will need a spoon in this silly game.

Strong Mom Quotes

Have a strong mom? Encourage her with these short mom quotes. This adorable mom quote printable is perfect for a mother’s birthday, Mother’s day or just because.

Encouraging Mom Quote

Being a mom isn’t for the weak. It’s a lot of hard work, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. A strong mom is one who can handle anything that comes her way, even when things get tough.

It’s no secret moms were created with some type of super human strength – both physically, emotionally and mentally. While I (a mom of five) don’t have the strength to lift a car, I can birth humans (in my case – accidently unmedicated, barely on a table.) While, I love good sleep I have an ability to make it day after day with interrupted nights.

The strength of a mother is powerful and sometimes events are placed our lives that require us to be physically and emotionally present and all of a sudden we are presented with super hero strength we did not realize we were able to muster. As Barbara Kingsolver once said, “sometimes the strength of motherhood is greater than natural laws.”

Children come into our lives in so many ways, you don’t have to have given birth to be a mother. No matter what your mom situation is, the fact of the matter is that if someone depends on you, you’re a momma.

Celebrate Mom with Strong Mom Quotes

Whether it’s Mother’s Day, mom’s birthday or mom is just overdue for some extra love, these strong mom quotes are a great way to remind the woman who raised you how much she means to you.

“A mother’s love is something that no one can explain, it’s something that you have to feel. It’s the passion of a thousand suns burning inside of you.” – Unknown

“The best place to cry is on a mother’s arms.” – Jodi Picoult

“We have a secret in our culture, and it’s not that birth is painful. It’s that women are strong.” – Laura Stavoe Harm.

“The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.” – Rajneesh

“Motherhood is a choice you make every day to put someone else’s happiness and well-being ahead of your own, to teach someone else that life isn’t always about what you want.” – Mandy Hale

“A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when misfortune takes the place of happiness; when we are deserted by the world, and our friends in whom we trusted, have proved unworthy of our confidence. A mother’s love is then most needed, and most tender.” – Washington Irving

“A mother understands what a child does not say.” – Jewish Proverb

“Motherhood is a choice you make every day, to put someone else’s happiness and well-being ahead of your own. To teach the hard lessons, to do the right thing, even when you’re not sure what the right thing is to forgive yourself over and over again for doing everything wrong.” – Donna Ball

“One of the greatest titles in the world is parent, and one of the biggest blessings in the world is to be one.” – Jim Gaffigan

“A mom’s hug lasts long after she lets go.” – Unknown

“A mother is she who can take the place of all others but whose place no one else can take.” – Unknown

“All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.” – Abraham Lincoln

“The heart of a mother is a deep abyss at the bottom of which you will find forgiveness.” – Honore de Balzac

“It is not until you become a mother that your judgment slowly turns to compassion and understanding.” – Erma Bombeck.

Strong Mother Quotes

As someone who has walked the walk of being a single mom, I wanted to share a few verses of encouragement. That circumstances in that season of time was one of my hardest. If you find yourself in times of stress, be encouraged by some of these strong single mother quotes.

“There is no way to be the perfect mother but a million ways to be a good one.” – Jill Churchill.

“Successful mothers are not the ones that have never struggled. They are the ones that never give up, despite the struggles.” – Sharon Jaynes.

“To describe my mother would be to write about a hurricane in its perfect power. Or the climbing, falling colors of a rainbow.” – Maya Angelou.

“Any mother could do the jobs of several air traffic controllers with ease.” – Lisa Alther

“Not only am I a fighter, but I’m a survivor. I think being a mother really plays into that.” – Willow Cross

“A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.” -Washington Irving

Hey Google, Call Mom

Being a mom doesn’t mean you’re perfect, it means you do your best. You feel more deeply, you love harder. You’re strong when you don’t want to be and show that it’s okay to be vulnerable.

Celebrate your mom with a simple phone call, text, or visit to remind her that she is loved. And if you don’t live near your mom, take a few minutes to tell her how much you appreciate all she’s done for you.

No matter what, a strong mom is always there for her children. So thank your mom for everything she’s done for you and let her know how much you love her with encouraging mom quotes.

Stay Strong, Mom!

There is no perfect mother. In fact a good mother knows her imperfections. In fact, to quote Arianna Huffington “The fastest way to break the cycle of perfectionism and become a fearless mother is to give up the idea of doing it perfectly – indeed to embrace uncertainty and imperfection.”

If you are here today because you are also an exhausted mom, I get it. As a mom of five, I am also asked which number kid is the hardest. Honestly, each kid is unique and comes with their own joys and challenges. However, for me the answer to this question is always the same “the first is the hardest.”

If you are here, you are a mom. In that case, you at least have one. Hugs mama, it’s hard but you are strong. Remember, even in the day to day challenge, you are in this place, the present. And the present is the gift of your child(ren) even on days where you might not feel it.

Spring Activities Bucket List Printable

Spring is a time of new beginnings and exciting changes. One way to celebrate the season is by making a bucket list for spring. To help get your family moving and to help them break out of their (egg)shell, I’ve put together an exciting Spring Activities Bucket List printable to share with you.

What is a Bucket List?

A bucket list can be anything from things you want to do, places you want to go or people you want to see this time of year. For many people, a bucket list is a list of activities they would like to accomplish as a family. For others, a bucket list can include things to do before you die.

A bucket list can be short, like for a period of time like a season . Your list can be seasonal like a Christmas bucket list, or be made up of all the things that are unique to the months of March, April, and May. It can also be long like fun things you would like to accomplish in a lifetime.

The list can focus on indoor activities, things to do on vacation, or even over a school break Share these activities with others or make them solo.  There’s really no limit to what you can put on your personalized bucket list or family bucket list.

A new season. A new tradition.

Spring is the perfect time to start a new family tradition and make a plan to spend time together. We always have the best of intentions to do things as a family, but it seems like something always comes up. This year, make a plan and stick to it with this handy dandy spring bucket list!

One fun way to welcome the new season is to get outdoors and take in fresh air. Warmer weather opens up the list of ideas and outdoor activities you can do together. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

That sneaky little guy…. the leprechaun left behind fun treasure hunt for St. Patty’s Day. Download and print a St. Patrick’s Day Scavenger Hunt printable with 20 rhyming riddles for your child today!

St. Patrick's Day Scavenger Hunt

St. Patrick’s Day is around the corner and it’s time to celebrate all things rainbow and lucky with a colorful St. Patrick’s Scavenger Hunt. Planning a fun for this Irish holiday can be a bit tricky, but with this St. Patrick’s Day leprechaun activity your kids will be over the rainbow looking for clues.

St. Patrick’s Day Traditions

St. Patrick’s Day is the day when we celebrate all things Irish, including a little bit of luck and magic. It’s a great time to spend with family or friends, eat delicious food, wear green clothes, and enjoy different Irish traditions!

There are plenty of ways to get in on the fun too – you can make your own lucky charms for good luck throughout the year, make your own DIY leprechaun trap or learn about traditional Irish music instruments and dancing.

And if you’re looking for something else besides drinking green beer (or any other green drinks), there are tons more Saint Patrick’s Day traditions and celebrations to fit every type of personality and family. No matter what kind of fun you’re looking for, there’s a good chance that you can find it on March 17th!

But if you’re looking for a way to add a bit of extra fun and excitement to your day, why not try this fun idea – a scavenger hunt? This St. Patty’s Day Scavenger Hunt is perfect for all ages and will have everyone racing around looking for clues to the leprechaun’s hiding spot.

St. Patrick’s Day Scavenger Hunt

That sneaky little leprechaun escaped the the Leprechaun Trap. However he left behind a fun St. Patricks’ Day activity. This printable is perfect for a St. Patrick’s Day party or family activity. Just download, print, and cut out the clues. Hide them around the house for a fun challenge and discover (perhaps) a Leprechaun’s pot of gold.

What You’ll Need:

  • Printer
  • Paper
  • Scissors
  • Clues (download below)
  • A St. Patrick’s Day treat for participants (like Gold Chocolate Coins)

Leprechaun Scavenger Hunt Clues

In order to make this St. Patty’s Day Scavenger Hunt really fun, we added some rhyming clues that your child can solve as they race around the house in this at home treasure hunt. If you have toddlers or younger kids, pair them with older children to help solve the St. Patrick’s’ Day Scavenger Hunt riddles and clue cards.

A few examples of rhyming clues include…

Leprechaun Scavenger Hunt Clues

I think I hear something jiggling like gold. Run to the place where you keep the food cold. (Refrigerator.)

St. Patrick's Day Scavenger Hunt Clues

You’re doing a great job on this treasure hunt, continue the fun when you look out front. (Lawn or front porch.)

St. Patrick's Day Treasure Hunt Clues

Irish kisses and shamrock pinches, search in the place where you keep your riches. (Piggy bank or wallet.)

… now to grab your fun St. Patrick’s Day printable.

Treasure Hunt Printable

To get started, download and print the clues on white cardstock. There are twenty different clues for you to choose from, making it easy to set up a custom scavenger hunt that works for your home.

Download your St. Patrick’s Day Scavenger Hunt PDF here.

There’s also a clues & answers page just in case you get stumped on one of the clues. It also makes setting up the St. Patty’s day activity quick and easy to set up.

Instructions

Once printed, cut out the clues and hide them around the house so they match the list given. The idea behind the scavenger hunt is that a leprechaun has hidden treasure that your kids need to find.

You’ll want to put together a themed prize for the final clue location. This could be anything from a pot of gold coins to a special treat like some yummy candy or an Irish-themed toy.

Once everything is ready, gather the kids and explain the rules. Save the first card. Then, it’s time to get busy hunting!

The best part about this scavenger hunt is that it can be tailored to any age group, even adults! Just make sure to adjust the treats and small prizes at the end of the rainbow accordingly. Mini bottles of alcohol, chocolates, a rainbow charcuterie board and green beer would be a great adult prize for a St. Patrick’s Day treasure hunt!

Now that you’re all ready to go, download the clues and get started on this festive and fun family activity. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

You all know I love a good mom hack. Mom, dad, grandmother, grandfather, or single lady with a lot of cats, this fits them all (I can add to the list.) Since this is a “mom blog” I address you all the most.

Moving along, one of my newest mom hacks and life hacks for the home I cannot live without are these Outlet Covers with a Night Light. I am not talking about the night lights you plug in, I am talking about a lighted outlet cover.

What is amazing about the LED Night Light Outlet Cover is they are really easy to install. Like your only talent needs to be the ability to screw and unscrew a screw (say that 5 times!)

I shared with you in the past, how we adore these Stick on Stairway Lights for illuminating a dark stairwell. Only, in our new home our stairs were pretty lit and our hallways were dark. Nothing is worse, in the night, then having to turn on a light switch – can I Get an Amen?

Night Light Outlet Cover Plates

Take a look at these Must Have Home Decor Night Light Outlet Cover Plates. They come in a few different styles so you can personalize to your outlet shape.

Many outlets have two separate circles within the rectangular plate. If you have this style, pick up the Duplex Outlets Electrical Outlet Wall Plate with LED Night Lights.

If you have newer outlets, look at these Decor Outlets – Electrical Outlet Wall Plate with LED Night Lights.

Finally, if you want to try this out with a light switch, they also have Light Switch Plates Night Lights.
