We came up with some of the most creative Summer Boredom Busters for mom and the kids. Consider putting a new idea on the calendar every week day for the next 4 weeks. Adorable Artist Paint Palette Cookies with free printable gift tag – Thank you for coloring my world! Sweet treat idea and thank you for a teacher or use as a birthday party favor. So many ideas for your little artist!

Artist Paint Palette Cookies with Gift Tag

We have the cutest, most easiest cookies for your little artist! First, this recipe requires no baking, just pick up sugar cookies at your local grocery store. Of course if you want a yummy sugar cookie recipe, we have one of those too! You will need some black Licorice Twizzlers Twists. If you have trouble finding those, we found some online. This will make the bristle of the brush and Air Heads will make your paint brush stick.

We also put together a sweet “thank you for coloring my world” gift tag. This free printable makes a sweet end of the year gift for a teacher or perhaps use as a birthday party favor for an artist paint birthday party!

Artist Paint Palette Cupcakes

Ingredients:

8 Sugar Cookies, prepared
1 Container White Frosting
1 Piece Black Licorice Twist
2 Orange Airheads Candy
2 Cherry Airheads Candy
1 White Mystery Airheads Candy
Food Coloring—red, orange, yellow, green blue
Frosting Piping Bags

Directions:

Take each orange and cherry Airheads candy and cut them in half. Cut each of the halves in half lengthwise so you now have 4 pieces of each flavor. Roll each piece into a paintbrush shape.
Cut ½” pieces of the black licorice. Slice each one open so it isn’t a tube shape. Lay each piece out and cut them each in half. Lay one piece of licorice over the end of each paintbrush.
Cut small thin rectangular pieces of the white Airheads candy. Wrap one of these around the seam where the licorice is laying on the paintbrush. Make sure you wrap them tight, so the paintbrush and licorice bristles don’t come apart.
Divide the frosting into 5 small bowls and color each frosting bowl a different color. You can put each color frosting into a small plastic bag for piping if you choose to, or just use a knife to dollop.
Cut out a small hole in the bottom half of each cookie so it looks like the hole on a paint board palette.
Pipe a dot of each color frosting along the top half edge of each cookie.
Use a dot of frosting to attach a paintbrush on top each cookie.
These little paint palettes are cute and easy to make for any party!

Buffalo Cauliflower Bites Recipe. A homemade skinny snack with buffalo sauce for the win!

Buffalo Cauliflower Bites

One of our biggest secrets in our home is cauliflower. I have made rice cauliflower, mashed potatoes cauliflower, and now buffalo cauliflower! Not only does cauliflower aid in weight loss (as it is a better choice over many alternatives) it also is a good source of vitamin C, vitamin K, and has cancer-fighting compounds known as glucosinolates. This recipes is easy to prep and takes under 30 minutes to make from start to finish. Enjoy!

Buffalo Cauliflower Bites

Ingredients:

1 large head of cauliflower, cut into chunks
1/2 cup almond flour
1/2 cup water
1 tsp. garlic powder
salt & pepper to taste
1 cup Franks Redhot Sauce

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and spray and baking sheet with non stick cooking spray.
Combine the water, almond flour and garlic powder. Add in the cauliflower chunks and stir the mixture to coat the cauliflower.
Spread on the baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes or until tender/forkable.
Remove from the oven and toss in the hot sauce.
Serve with ranch or blue cheese dressing on the side.

Copycat Goat Cheese Balls. Delicious, creamy cheese bites coated with a blend of almond flour, bread crumbs and thyme. Pair with a sauce of mango, papaya and pineapple. A tasty cheese appetizer just like every one’s favorite restaurant!

Goat Cheese Balls

I have heard about goat cheese balls and I have been dying to try them only I don’t know if any restaurants in my area that serve them. In order to appease that craving, we had to make these goat cheese balls ourselves.

First, they took me a few days to master but I made them. They are not necessarily easy to make so if you want easy, you should move on. Keep in mind that it is important that the breading is lighter. If you want a heavier breading then you should dip more in egg and then the bread crumbs. Follow this cooking tip – when browning, I kept the pan moving and only did a few at a time and let them roll around and brown.

Goat Cheese Balls

Ingredients:

4 oz creamy goat cheese
1 egg
1/2 C. almond flour
1/2 C. bread crumbs
1/2 tsp. dried thyme
Olive oil

Sauce Ingredients:

1/4 mango
1/4 papaya
1/8 C. pineapple juice
salt & pepper to taste

Directions:

Combine the goat cheese, almond flour, bread crumbs and dried thyme.
Place the mixture in the fridge for 30 minutes.
Remove and use a small 2″ cookie scoop to roll the cheese mixture into balls.
Place each cheese ball on a plate or small cookie sheet.
Once all the cheese is rolled into balls, place them in the fridge or freezer while heating the oil and making the tropical sauce.
Place the mango, papaya and pineapple juice in a food processor and blend.
Pour into a small dish and set aside.
Heat the oil on medium/high heat. Remove the cheese balls from the fridge/freezer and cook 2-3 at a time. Continually turning them. I found it was easier to lift the pan up and let them roll around. Cook a minute and roll around again.
Remove from the pan and serve with the tropical sauce.

Noah’s Ark Sunday School Craft

Looking for a fun Sunday School Craft? We love this easy paper plate craft using the story of Noah’s Ark in the Bible. Noah’s Ark is the vessel in the Genesis flood narrative by which God spares Noah, his family, and two animals of every kind. You can read the story in Genesis Chapters 6 to 9, otherwise there are some really good Noah’s Ark Books for Kids.

While you read the story, perhaps have a second adult work on this craft with the children. You can give instruction before the story begins.

In this Sunday school lesson, the children learn about Noah and the ark he built according to God’s instructions. The children also learn that it is very important to obey God in all things. Noah loved and obeyed God even when no one else would. God saved Noah. God gave a promise at the end of the book with his rainbow, a promise of peace that God would never destroy the earth again.

One of my favorite songs growing up was the Arky, Arky Song – anyone remember it? During your crafting time, this would be a fun song to sing with the kids! Also consider serving Animals Crackers!

Genesis 6:22 (ESV) “Noah did (…) all that God commanded him.”

Supplies:

1 White Paper Plate (make sure there is no wax layer on the top)
1 Sheet Brown Foam (you can also use brown construction paper)
Animal Stickers—2 of each (get 2 sets if needed, we got our at the Dollar Store)
Markers—red, orange, yellow, green, blue
Stapler (or hot glue gun)

Directions:

Get your makers, paper plate, foam and stickers together.
On the top of the paper plate, color a rainbow with your makers. Start with a thick line of red on the rim of the paper plate, and follow with orange, yellow, green, and then blue.
Lay the paper plate face down on top of the brown foam. Trace a half circle on the foam around the plate. Cut out the foam, and it should look like half the plate. Cut out 3 small circle in the middle of the foam for little porthole windows.
Turn the plate right side up so the rainbow is at the top, and set the brown foam piece on the bottom half the plate.
Use a stapler to staple the foam to the top edge of the plate. Put about 4-5 staples around the edge. If using a hot glue gun, glue along the bottom edge of the plate (where the ark will lay.)
Add the animal stickers. Put some peeking through the portholes, and some on the white plate so it looks like the animals are all on the ark. Don’t forget to make sure to put 2 of the same animals right next to each other since Noah put 2 of each animal on the ark.
