Balloon Stuffing Tool

Anyone can do this easy Balloon idea for The Elf on the Shelf. No fancy tools required! This DIY Balloon Stuffer Machine costs next to nothing, and you can use it year-round for fantastic gifts. Use it to stuff your holiday helper in a balloon for a fun arrival surprise, or stuff a balloon with candy for a great party favor!

  • Optional: Black Sharpie
  • Optional: Your candy of choice (we used Reese’s Cups)

Now for the two magic gadgets! To stuff the little red guy in a balloon, you’ll need a Balloon Stuffing Tool and a Hand Held Balloon Pump (guys, you’re going to need this balloon pump around the house for parties – it made blowing up my daughter’s birthday balloons so easy and quick!)

Balloon Stuffing Tool and this Elf on the Shelf Hack

How to Stuff a Balloon with The Elf on the Shelf

Follow these simple, step-by-step directions to learn how to stuff a balloon with a Christmas Elf! There’s two important things worth sharing. First, this is incredibly easy. Like, crazy easy. Plus, the balloon stuffing tool is incredibly affordable for all my frugal friends out there! Second, your kids will become obsessed with this easy Balloon idea for a family elf. You’ll have envious moms wondering, “How on earth did you do that?!” Send them here to share your wisdom. They won’t realize how easy it is until they try it themselves! Let’s get into the tutorial. Read on for one of the best Ideas — The Christmas Elf in a balloon!

How do you get The Elf on the Shelf in a balloon?

First, grab your balloon and start stretching it out. Make sure to stretch both the neck and the body of the balloon. You’re going to fit an entire Scout Elf in a balloon, so the balloon needs to have room!

How to Stuff a Balloon with Stuff

Second, use your Balloon Pump to put the neck of your balloon on the neck of the pump. Pump up the balloon and deflate it. Repeat this a few times. This continues to stretch your balloon so you can easily fit your family elf inside.

How to Stuff a Balloon with Candy

Third, remove your balloon from the balloon pump. Wrap the neck of the balloon around your Balloon Stuffing Tool (aka canning funnel). Pull the neck of the balloon up the neck of the canning funnel. Make sure to pull the balloon up as much as possible — it’ll help you fit everything into the balloon in the next step!

How to Stuff a Balloon with Gifts

Next, you have the option to add chocolates to the inside of the balloon to give the balloon weight. The Elf will likely still move around, but the chocolates are a fun extra treat for your child to enjoy when they pop the balloon!

How to Stuff a Balloon with Elf on the Shelf

Next, fold your Elf in on itself, similar to the way it arrived in the box. Wrap its arms around itself and fold its legs, like it’s sitting! Begin to slide the bottom of your elf doll into the balloon until everything but its head is inside.

Elf on the Shelf Idea with a Balloon

Then, work the rest of the balloon up the face of Elf by removing the canning funnel. You’ll need to use your hands and a little patience for this part! Only the tip of the Elf’s hat will be sticking out at this point.

Balloon Elf on the Shelf Idea

Return to your hand-held balloon pump, slide your balloon onto the pump, and start pumping. Don’t over-inflate the balloon — if you do, it could pop before morning arrives.

Tie off the neck of the balloon. Optionally, you can use a Sharpie to write a message from the Elf on the balloon. “Help me” and “I’m here!” are a couple of good message ideas for the Arrival of The Elf on the Shelf!

This idea is perfect for a First Night Idea for The Elf on the Shelf. We shared many Elf Ideas for Arrival, but we think this one is just adorable. It’s as if Elf floated down from the North Pole inside a balloon. You can use a Sharpie Marker and write “I’m Back!” or “Help Me!” on the outside of the balloon. We filled up other balloons around Elf and kept the clear balloons as the balloon Scout Elf chose to arrive in. That way, the kids can see their North Pole visitors!

It’s a bird, it’s a …. parrot. This bird Elf on the Shelf idea only requires feathers! New creative, funny, and original Elf on the Shelf Ideas daily plus free printables.

Bird Elf on the Shelf

Birds of a feather, flock together! It’s been really hard for me to not pull out all the bird quotes I have.

We are back, maybe you are not yet but we are doing our best to get all the Elf on the Shelf Ideas that we can, so when your family welcomes back your Elf, you are ready! As a reminder, we come to you every day in the month of November and December with new Elf ideas.  You can view our Elf on the Shelf Master List for a full list of ideas including every idea we have ever done.

For many of these Elf on the Shelf ideas, make sure you have an elf that can bend. You can do that easily with our Bendable Elf on the Shelf tutorial.  This was a great place where a bendable Elf was beneficial – get that wire in him now!

Bird Elf on the Shelf Idea

This idea is not only for the birds, it’s for all of us. We think the kids would find it quite comical.  If you worry your kids would never find Elf outside, have them follow a path of dropped feathers to the yard will Elf awaits on the feeder eating seed.  It was a bit of a balancing act getting him up there. In the first photo, I tucked the tips of the feather underneath the feeder rim and then positioned elf on the metal perch. Clear finishing line would not be a bad idea, to tie him in the place. The higher he is, the less the kids are likely to notice the details.

In the second photo, I used the string that held the feathers in place and weaved it around the bird feeder perch.  I think I prefer the first positioning, as he looks like a bird that is eating but the second idea definitely displays his colorful feathers!

Bird Tip: Have your kids follow a path of feathers outside to find Elf on the Shelf!

Bird Elf on the Shelf Supplies Needed

Shake your tail feather because there are only a few supplies needed for this Elf on the Shelf Idea!

  • The Elf on the Shelf
  • Feathers (we bought this batch of feathers)
  • String (we used a colored string, but I suggest clear fishing line)

Christmas Name that Tune Printable

Want a fun holiday game with a crowd? Perhaps Jingle Beats at your next gathering? Take a look at this festive guide to hosting the ultimate Christmas Party Game! This Christmas Name that Tune Printable Game brings smiles, laughter, & classic Christmas Songs. Fill your home with some of the Best Christmas Songs for the holiday season!

Christmas Name that Tune Printable

We will make this short and sweet. We wanted to get our latest printable to you before the Thanksgiving holiday. Because, yes this is all about the Best Christmas tunes, we felt who wouldn’t enjoy playing this with their family and friends after a nice Thanksgiving meal!?

How to Play Name That Tune

Have you wondered how to play Name That Tune? I have played before but it is one of those games that I often ask myself “how do you play?” again. The best thing about this classic family game is that it is easy. It can be adapted to your crowd size and your own rules – just discuss the rules before you begin playing (because you know two people will argue at some point during the game!)

To Play Name that Tune, your group is divided into teams. We find it is best if there are two teams, but you can really have two to however many teams you want. Just make sure everyone has the same number of turns. Cut up your songs from our Christmas Name that Tune Game Printable and place them in an object like bucket (or hat.)

The first player from a team goes up to the bucket and picks a song. They are given a certain amount of time to start humming the tune. (we give everyone a minute.) They can hum the song starting at any point during the song. It does not have to be from the beginning of the song. Many hummers will go straight to the chorus.  The remaining players on their team decide the song they are humming and give one answer. With Christmas Name That Tune, you do not want unlimited guesses because there are only so many Christmas songs. Eventually, every song would be named during one team’s guess.

Once that team guessed the correct song, they will receive a point. Then the next team goes repeating what that first team did with a new song drawn from the bucket. If that team does not guess the correct name of the song or goes beyond a minute, a point is NOT earned. If someone picks a song they do not know, they must try to hum or forfeit their team’s turn.

Adaptions include more than a minute to hum the tune or more than one guess. You can decide if hand gestures can occur or props can be used. You can add a timer (like a metronome), a piano, or drumsticks for rhythm. The idea is up to you.

The team with the most points at the end of the list of Christmas music songs wins!

In this guide, we’ll reiterate what we just said but walk you through the simple process of creating and using our printable Christmas song cards, ensuring an unforgettable experience for both kids and adults.

name that tune christmas game

Creating the Game:

  1. Download and Print: Begin by downloading our free Christmas Name that Tune printable (see below). Print out as many copies as you need.
  2. Cutting the Deck: With scissors in hand, carefully cut along the designated lines to create individual cards, each featuring a classic Christmas song title. Be sure to shuffle the deck to mix up the holiday hits!

Playing the Game:

  1. Setting the Stage: Designate a festive space for the game, complete with twinkling lights and seasonal decor. Consider playing some soft holiday tunes in the background to set the mood in between rounds.
  2. Explaining the Rules: Gather the participants and explain the rules of the game. Each player will take turns drawing a card and, without singing or humming, must describe the song to their teammates, who will then guess the title. Set a time limit for each round to keep the game lively.
  3. Scoring and Rewards: Determine a point system for correct guesses. To make things interesting, consider assigning bonus points for creativity or incorporating festive gestures into the clues. Have small holiday-themed prizes for the winners, adding an extra layer of excitement.

Tips for an Interactive Experience:

There are plenty of ways to step up your Jingle beats. Take a look at these creative ideas for hosting a Christmas party with a Name That Tune Game.

  1. Themed Attire: Encourage participants and guests to wear holiday-themed attire, such as Santa hats, reindeer antlers, or elf ears, to add a whimsical touch to the game.
  2. Carol Karaoke Breaks: Inject some variety by incorporating short carol karaoke breaks between rounds. This not only keeps the energy high but also ensures everyone gets a chance to showcase their vocal talents.
  3. Create Team Names: Have players come up with creative team names that reflect the festive spirit. This adds a sense of camaraderie and friendly competition to the game.
  4. Festive Refreshments: Serve holiday snacks and beverages to keep everyone fueled and in good spirits. Gingerbread cookies, hot cocoa, and candy canes are sure to enhance the overall experience.

With our Christmas Name that Tune game and these tips for a spirited gathering, you’re well on your way to hosting a memorable and harmonious celebration.

Elf on the Shelf Ideas with Toy Story 4 Forky

Our Toy Story 4 Forky is form the Toy Story 4 Forky Craft Kit. This Elf on the Shelf idea with Toy Story was really simplistic, mostly because we had everything we needed. I would suggest Forky is placed in a clean garbage can – don’t have last nights spaghetti in the can. Also use a trash can that not be used the entire day.

Forky, the Toy Story 4 spork, is known for climbing into the trash. He is constructed from a spork, googly eyes, a pipe cleaner, clay, and a Popsicle stick, and a rainbow sticker. He was created by Bonnie, during a difficult first day of kindergarten. Bonnie claims him as hew new toy, but Forky identifies himself as trash thus creating the challenge of keeping him out of the trash and alongside Bonnie.

We played on this challenge with Elf on the Shelf saving Toy Story 4 Forky from the garbage. “I’m not a toy. I’m a spork. I’m trash!”

Where to Buy Toy Story 4 Forky

Grab the entire gang for this Toy Story Forky Idea with your Elf on the Shelf. You really only need your Elf on the Shelf, a Toy Story 4 Forky and of course, trash! Perhaps make sure it is a can that will not need to be used that day! Can you imagine the trash piling up in the kitchen?

There are a few places of where to buy Toy Story 4 Forky. You can get a Forky already made or perhaps pick up a kit and make it yourself.

What is Elf on the Shelf?

Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas Tradition. The tradition has a book and a elf doll. The book is poetic and in rhyme sharing the purpose of the Elf’s visits. The Elf visits each Thanksgiving. He/She goes and returns from the North Pole each evening. Every morning he can be found in a new location in the house. The Elf has been found in the refrigerator, fishing in the toilet, writing messages on the mirror or hanging from the lights. It is VERY IMPORTANT, the Elf is not touch each evening or his Christmas magic will be lost! Each family is able to name their special elf. The elves return to their home (Santa’s North Pole Work shop) every Christmas Eve. An Elf’s Story can also be found on DVD.

Jesus Birthday Cakes for Christmas

The Christmas Tradition of Jesus Birthday Cakes. Learn about the meaning of Christmas and the symbolism found in these inspiring nativity cakes including reasons for colors and shapes.

Jesus Birthday Cakes for Christmas

Jesus Birthday Cakes for Christmas

Christmas has become lost in the commercialization of the season. My family and I have worked hard to return to the reason we celebrate Christmas. The coming of Christ. One way we have done that is through a Birthday cake for Jesus.

“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  Of the increase of His government and peace.” Isaiah 9:6

Christmas Traditions

We began the Jesus Birthday Cake Christmas Tradition in 2012 when my girls were 3 and 4 years old. There wasn’t much on Pinterest, it was pre the dawn of Kid’s Baking Championship, and we baking that cake like a box cake mix champ. In sweet fashion, though, my girls wanted the picture shared with the world of social media. I took their photo and my daughter asked… “Mom, are you sending that picture to baby Jesus?” Yes, sweet girl. I am. Consider that cake seen and loved!

If you are in the early age of beginning Christmas traditions, cross cookies for Santa off your list and make a Birthday cake for Jesus. You could even leave a piece for Santa on Christmas Eve. It’s an excellent way to focus on the reason for the season and bring it all back home to why we celebrate Christmas.

Symbolism in Jesus Birthday Cakes

While all of these cakes might just look like another Christmas cake or nativity scene, many offer symbolism in the colors and shapes. Take a look at these cake characteristics that tell the story of Christ.

Jesus Birthday Cake Colors and Shapes

Chocolate Layer – The darkness represents all people have sinned.

Red Layer – The red color reminds us that the blood of Jesus was shed for the forgiveness of our sins.

Green Layer – When we accept Jesus, we have new life in Jesus and begin to grow.

Round Cake Shape – Jesus came to the world. The cake shape is round, a circle that is never ending. Just like God’s love.

White Frosting – Righteousness and purity of Jesus covers all our sins. Our sin is covered over by the Jesus who died for our sins. Our sin is washed white as snow.

Red Heart – Christians are Jesus’ messengers and witnesses. Christ first loved us so we are called to follow His example and love others.

Gold Star – The star of Bethlehem that pointed the wise men the way to Jesus. Wise men still follow him today.

Candles – Jesus is the light of the world. Let our light shine before men, that they may see our good works, and glorify our Father in heaven.

Jesus Birthday Cake Bible Verses

Consider sharing the message and gospel of Christ when sharing about the symbolization of your Jesus Birthday Cake.

Round Cake Shape – Share John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Chocolate Layer – Share Romans 3:23

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Red Layer – Share Romans 5:8

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

White Frosting – Share Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Gold Star – Share Luke 2:10

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.”

Candles – Share Matthew 5:16

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Green Layer – Share John 15:5 or Peter 3:18

I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

Close your Jesus Birthday Cake Bible Verses by lighting your candles and singing Happy Birthday to Jesus.
