These leaves are beginning to take tint in our area and I am so excited about the welcome of Fall. Below is a fun food craft for kids that can be done year around. This painted toast recipe can be used with leaf cookie cutters or get creative with morning messages on toast and other seasonal cutouts.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 Cup Whole Milk
  • Red, Green, and Orange Food Coloring
  • Leaf Cookie Cutters
  • Baking Pan
  • Parchment Paper
  • Food Safe Paint Brushes
  • 3 Small Containers
  • Cutting Board

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350° and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In each of your small containers add 1/4 cup of whole milk, a couple drops of food coloring, and stir.
  3. Place your bread on a cutting board and use your leaf cookie cutters to cut out shapes.
  4. Dip your paintbrush in your colored milk and paint your leaves.
  5. Once your leaves are painted, place them on your baking sheet and bake for about 10 minutes.
  6. Bread a little bit of butter on each piece and enjoy!

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of CORT. All opinions are 100% mine.

We are finally settling in the DC Metro area. I say finally loosely as we moved up here from Florida in June 2015, but it has taken us that long to finally get a home together. I have filled my home with family and love, but I was out of place sitting in a rental for a year with boxes against the wall. Since arriving in Northern Virginia, we have moved twice and I can finally say, we are in a nice little resting spot and getting ready for our baby boy on the way.

With moving has come a lot of discount furniture shopping. I have needed things for storage (shoe racks, baskets, organizing bins) to things like furniture (a dinning room table, a desk chair, a new couch) – you name it. With all our shopping has also come home improvement (as not much in this DC metro area is new). We have replaced carpet, lighting, and are patiently awaiting replacing old windows. To top it off, our little boy is due in 3 weeks and with that has come everything needed for a nursery! I feel like my wallet is tossing money left and right and moving provide physical stress, but also financial stress – is anyone with me?

The CORT Furniture Clearance Center Showroom Floor.

This past week, I had the ability to visit CORT Clearance Centers. I was thoroughly impressed. I am a “frugal” website (individual) and always try to shop with the budget in mind.  Sometimes I am hindered by keeping money in check when I don’t set the budget. Yes this happens (especially is busy times of life.) I found myself making this mistake with our move and being in my second trimester of pregnancy. Sometimes when a lot is going on in the home, it’s nice to just head straight to a place like CORT Clearance Centers where you will find premium quality furniture at up to 70% off MSRP! I can take comfort in that. At CORT you can find a full range of residential furniture (living room, bedroom, dining room) as well as office furniture and accessories – where was this place three months ago!?!

I love to shop an affordable price but I feel it is a waste when shopping cheap. For example, I used to always tell my new mommy friends buy your child shoes, but one to two quality pairs instead of many pairs at cheap prices. What is the point of buying low quality if you are constantly going to be replacing your product. CORT’s furniture is affordable – but it’s not cheap. Their furniture quality is higher than other discount brands. It offers more durable fabric, robust stitching, real wood instead of particle board, etc. That last one is huge to me. REAL WOOD over particle board – that is what I want. Quality furniture that lasts a life time and I don’t have to break the bank to get it!!

Take a look at some of these products! This sideboard is normally $1,849 but reduced to $399.99. Have you seen these clear plastic chairs that are trending! They look so fun with a farmhouse wooden table. CORT had them as low as $69.99 each – have you seen them that low? I also loved this lantern as low as $29.99 and mirror for $79.99.

I was impressed with the detail on the back of these dinning room chairs.

Additionally, if you find yourself buying in “bulk” or needing as many items for the new home (like me), you get extra discounts when you buy in sets or “home to go” packages. This is what I mean when I say, where was this store 3 months ago? I truly wish I had stumbled upon it earlier! To give yourself better “lifetime” assurance, through CORT Certified, they guarantee that if any product is found to be defective within 90 days of purchase, they will repair or replace it. I love that relationship with a store because it allows me to buy with confidence and doesn’t make me feel rushed when purchasing. I can buy and have a 90 day reassurance on the quality of the product.

Next time you are furniture shopping, I suggest trying CORT first. Find your local clearance center.
