My brother has told me time and time again I need to post on this program Groupon. Unfortunately, I never felt comfortable enough to post on it because I didn’t feel like I knew enough about the program (it is not in my city) but due to Devon’s silent encouragement, I think I know enough to share with you this neat program and boy do I wish I listened to him ages ago!

The video below will share a little about the program. It explains it pretty well!

What is Groupon?

Groupon features a daily deal on the best stuff to do, see, eat, and buy in cities around the world. These cities are usually larger cities.

There is a new deal each day. You can sign up for daily alerts or visit the site each day. These deals can be tricky – first it has to meet a quota. Meaning the deal is not good until a certain number of people sign up for it and buy it – the collective buying power. If that number is not reached, you are not charged. If it is met, then the deal is live and rolling! Anyone can buy.

What Can I Do with These Gift Cards?

These make nice gifts – we all know how popular gift cards have become. Also, f you are traveling, it might a be a good site to check out a few weeks before you travel – you might find a great deal you can use while there! Most gift cards last for a year’s time.

Cities currently participating in Groupon:

Albuquerque, Chicago, Detroit, Kansas City, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, San Antonio, Tampa, Atlanta, Cincinnati, Fort Worth, Las Vegas, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Phoenix, San Diego, Virginia Beach, Austin, Cleveland, Fresno, Los Angeles, Nashville, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Washington DC, Baltimore, Columbus, Houston, Louisville, New York, Portland, San Jose, Boston, Dallas, Indianapolis, Memphis, Oklahoma City, Raleigh, Seattle, Charlotte, Denver, Jacksonville, Miami, Omaha, Sacramento, St. Louis

Example of a Groupon:

Today in Atlanta, get a Signature Facial at Ageless Remedies for $55 ($125 Value). The deal was tipped when $125 bought (it went live) and now they are at 461 buys! There are much cheaper buys, Devon found a $19 bowling night in Dallas (retail value $50.)

Video Stats – Learn How Groupon Works! from The Point on Vimeo.

Thanks, Jason and Devon.

Planning Your Scavenger Hunt for a DC Trip

Planning a scavenger hunt in Washington, D.C. can be an exciting and fun experience. However, it requires careful planning to ensure that the participants have a great time. Here are some tips on how to plan your scavenger hunt:

Choosing Locations

The first step in planning a scavenger hunt is to choose the locations where the participants will search for clues. The United States Capital has many interesting and historical locations that can be incorporated into the scavenger hunt. These fun places turn into a unique adventure full of memories and excitement.

Some popular options include:

  • National Mall
  • Smithsonian Museums
  • National Monuments and Memorials
  • Dupont Circle
  • Georgetown Beauvoir Playground
  • Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport
  • Smithsonian’s National Zoo
  • The Willard Hotel
  • Old Ebbitt Grill

When selecting locations, it is important to consider the difficulty level of the clues and the distance between each location. You want to make sure that the participants can complete the scavenger hunt within a reasonable amount of time or extend the activity over multiple days.

Creating Clues

The next step is to create clues that will lead the participants to each location. Clues can be in the form of riddles, puzzles, or simple directions. It is important to make the clues challenging but not too difficult. You want to make sure that the teammates can solve the clues without getting frustrated.

Some tips for creating clues include:

  • Use puns or wordplay to make the clues more interesting
  • Incorporate historical or cultural references to the locations
  • Make the clues visually appealing by adding pictures or graphics
  • Try rhyming words and phrases

Setting Up Rules

Finally, it is important to set up rules before letting everyone pound the pavement. Adults and kids need to know the guidelines and what to expect so that it’s a fair finding!

Scavenger Hunt Rules to review include:

  • The start and end times of the scavenger hunt
  • The number of participants (team vs. individual)
  • The use of electronic devices (such as smartphones) during the scavenger hunt
  • The consequences for breaking the rules

For a scavenger hunt, you can do it individually or team up in pairs. Be sure to set a time limit and decide how proof of objects being found will be displayed. (Most people will just use a cell phone to snap pictures as proof!)

It is important to communicate the rules clearly to all participants before the scavenger hunt begins to avoid any confusion or disputes. Verbalize the rules and expectations so that everyone is on the same page.  Have a moderator or someone who is not participating available to answer any questions and tally up the total points at the end of the time.

By following these tips, you can plan a fun and exciting scavenger hunt in D.C. that the participants will remember for years to come.

Invisalign Hacks and Tips To Make Your Treatment Better

Disclosure: I am not a doctor, dentist, orthodontist or medical professional. This post is not affiliated with Invisalign. Please consult your orthodontist before beginning any of the listed hacks or tips with Invisalign.

I did it. At age 37, I became a “brace face” mother of five. I never had braces as a kid and there has been one canine tooth that has always driven me crazy, especially with a smiling profile view. It really sticks out. I allowed that tooth to go for years until in frequent visits my dentist kept telling me “you would be a good case for Invisalign.” I ignored his nudges but began to notice my own problems. It became clear I have a cross bite in the back and my gums began to recede. The joys of getting older. Finally, done with having babies, I found an opportunity to take care of myself.

Frequently Asked Questions about Invisalign

As this post has become more popular, there have been a number of frequently asked Invisalign questions. Many of these questions are addressed below in our Invisalign tips, but here are a few quick and easy cliff notes.

How long does Invisalign take?

The length of treatment depends on your teeth and how often you change your trays. It is important to note, when your dentist quotes you a treatment plan, ask if this includes the treatment plan for aligners. Some dentist will give you a certain amount of time and then when aligners come, treatments can go months longer.

Where can I get a discount on Invisalign?

I found a discount for my Invisalign on Groupon. Once I found my savings, I then found my orthodontist. I loved the practice so much, I stayed with them as my primary dentist too.

How often do I change my clear aligners?

On average you will change aligners every 7 to 14 days. Please follow the guidelines of your dentist as every smile is different. You may get to change your aligners more often, if you have a vibrating ortho device for clear aligners to help your teeth shift. This may have you changing aligners as often as every 5 days.

How can my Invisalign treatment go faster?

Do not rush your clear braces treatment. Stay within the guidelines of your orthodontist.  If you are looking to speed up things treatment can go faster with a vibrating ortho device. Consult an ortho first.

Is it normal for teeth to be loose with Invisalign?

Yes! Your teeth will be loose from Invisalign as your teeth shift. Show your orthodontist any loose teeth within your regular checkups. This way he/she can monitor if this is normal or concerning.

Smile Direct vs Invisalign

Are Smile Direct Club and Invisalign are the same? No. They are two different companies.

If you are looking for clear aligners, there are two names that immediately come to mind. Smile Direct vs Invisalign. To investigate which was best for me, I did my homework. I sat at the dentist office and asked questions. I asked about Smile Direct vs Invisalign.

If you too are deicing which clear aligner brand is right for you, don’t rush into things. Make Two Important Appointments  1.) Book a FREE 30-minute Smile Direct appointment 2.) Visit your local dentist/orthodontist and see what plans they have too.

If you are like me, it’s easy to rush into a decision. Moving your teeth is an incredible journey and it’s important to do it right and to do it in the way you feel most comfortable.

Best Invisalign Accessories

My first week of Invisalign was hell. I am not going to lie. I have 22 brackets and they were really awful to put on. Additionally, my clear aligner was really tight, I was not used to the whole “planning” to eat thing and my mouth was bleeding. Installing the clear attachments, the dental hygienist tugging and pulling, really cut up my mouth during that first visit. However, once I left that dentist chair, my mouth began to heal.

The Invisalign treatment became my own at home. I was getting use to a routine of when to eat and brush and slowly things got better. I learned about some of best Invisalign accessories to get me through the process. After about one week, I no longer regretted my decision. In fact, though over a year long, I was looking forward to the results of when I was done.

List of the Best Invisalign Accessories Printable

As you make the Invisalign journey your own, make sure to download our FREE Invisalign Accessories Checklist Printable PDF.  A list of the top 12 Invisalign accessories that will help you on your clear aligners treatment and braces journey.

Can Invisalign be sped up?

About two months into treatment, I was really comfortable with my routine. My orthodontist mentioned being able to to change the number of days I wear each of my aligners with the aid of a vibration device. At the time, I was switching every 8 to 14 days and he mentioned I could get as few as 5 to 6 days for each new aligner. This would cut my Invisalign treatment by months but the device was $450. With five kids, that was not in the budget.

Vibrating Mouthpiece for Invisalign

I searched high and low for a similar device and could not find one until I found the Orthorush Soft Vibrating Device on eBay for $54. Similar to a very popular brand name, I pop the device in my mouth for 10 minutes in the morning and 10 minutes in the evenings. Since I was using a “knock off” brand, he would not let me change my device more often than every 6 days, but every day helps.

SHOP ORTHO VIBRATING DEVICE FOR INVISALIGN

I did find when using this device, my follow-up appointments showed correct movement. When I slacked on the device, he reminded me I need to be using it!

Grab your Orthorush Soft Vibrating Device here.

As my treatment moved along, I began researching Invisalign treatment. I didn’t want the “dentist” explanation, I wanted to see what had worked for patients and made their experience better. In my research, I decided to compile for you, 16 Invisalign Hacks and Tips to make yours (and my) treatment better! Leave a message and let me know what works for you! Together we can get through this process. I would love to hear your own hacks and tips to make this whole process endurable!

More Invisalign Tips & Tricks

Does it get easier to remove Invsalign?

The answer is yes, it gets easier to remover Invisalign. Thought it might eventually feel quick and easy to you, It’s not a visual you want to leave in other’s minds. Please remove your trays in private.

I highly recommend going to the bathroom or another room to remove your trays. Your aligners do accumulate some degree of saliva and pulling them from your mouth may not be a pretty sight plus it’s not very sanitary.

Invisalign Cleaner

When do you clean aligners?

Clean your aligners when you eat. Your clear aligners get gross. No matter how many times you brush, they just pick up plaque, saliva, you name it. The first and best hack is, clean while you eat.  I picked up Retainer Brite Cleaning Tablets, which I keep in my kitchen. When I am eating, I toss a Retainer Brite tablet in water and allow it to soak for at least 15 minutes. While nothing will perfectly whiten Invisalign trays, they really look so much better! When I am done eating, I brush my teeth and to polish the Invisalign aligners with my toothbrush. For a better clean, you could pick up an Ultrasonic Cleaner (this is the one I use!).

You can’t bite your teeth with Invsalign?

Even though you can’t bite your nails with Invisalign, say good-bye to polished manicures. Initially it was hard to get my aligners out. Once I got the hang of it, they came in and out really easy. However, it takes the help of your nails/fingers to get them out. Either kiss manicures goodbye or pick up a little tool called an outie, an Invisalign tray removal tool. and keep those pretty nails.

Invisalign Hacks Toothbrush Travel Kit

Have a travel toothbrush to clean your teeth.

You will want to carry a toothbrush, toothpaste, a floss pick in your bag. You will not regret it. Another Invisalign accessory I keep in my travel set is an Aligner Chewie. You use Aligner Chewies to help close any air gaps between your teeth and your Invisalign aligners. Insert your Invisalign and bite on your chewie to perfectly place on your teeth.

How to get rid of sharp edges on clear aligners.

Sometimes a new tray is rough around the edges. How do you shave down Invisalign?  If you find yourself with a sharp edge, you can use a nail bugger to gently smooth down the area irritating your check or gum. Be careful not to shave down too much or you might damage the tray or the purpose of that set of aligners. They are shaped intentionally to make your teeth shift!

Invisalign App

Use the Invisalign App as a Calendar.

Initially I found this app a waste, but as time went on, it really became helpful. Not only can you track your progress with photos (if you wish), you can get alerts when it is time to change your aligner. This was very resourceful because when you are not on a 7 day change cycle, then the day of the week is always different.  You can also see your calendar history and future. See future change dates, see your end date (loved having that goal!) and see how long you wore each aligner (i.e. first aligner was 10 days, third aligner was 8 days.) The app also has a time so you can track how long your aligners are out when you eat. Remember, Invisalign recommends use for at least 22 hours a day!

Invisalign Welcome Kit

Have multiple cases.

Have multiple cases for storing clear aligners. Initially I was rolling my aligners in a paper towel when I took them out to eat. This of course was not wise, because paper towels get tossed. Try to have multiple cases. Your kit comes with one, but you can get more online. I preferred three cases. One in the bathroom, one in my purse, and one in the kitchen. If I worked out of the home, I imagine I would want a case in my office too.

Invisalign Whitening Foam for Clear Aligners

Can I put teeth whitener in my Invisalign?

Yes! Get Whitening Foam.  Invest in the White Foam Clear Retainer Cleaner. Maybe only in my mind, but I found it to really help whiten Invisalign trays and more importantly, my teeth! In fact, I had a friend ask how my teeth are still so white. I am a whitening snob, have been one as long as white strips have existed. This was my solution to keeping white teeth while I had Invisalign. I found it cheaper online (I used Subscribe and Save every 3 months) than at the dentist office. Alternatively, you can use this Smile Box Teeth Whitening Foam for less! Again, use subscribe and save at checkout.

How do you remove lipstick from Invisalign?

Kiss Lipstick Goodbye and go for dramatic eye makeup to draw away form your lips! I wore a lot of Chapstick. However if there is a special occasion, you might ask yourself can you wear lipstick with Invisalign? Well of course but here is the bad news. Lipstick can get stuck on your clear aligners. L If you must wear lipstick, look for a long lasting matte like Covergirl Outlast All-Day Lip Color.

If you find yourself with a lipstick stain, try this trick to remove lipstick from Invisalign. Mix a solution of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda on a toothbrush. Use the tooth brush to scrub the lipstick stain off. If they stain cannot be removed, then don’t worry about it staining your teeth. If this solution doesn’t work, it’s not going anywhere.

Careone Ibuprofen for Invisalign

When do you switch invisalign trays?

Switch Aligners at Night.  Switch aligners at night and pop ibuprofen. I feared each new change, but it wasn’t that bad. I am someone who prefers something night over something loose. I like tons of blankets on me when I sleep, I love the feel of Spanx, etc. So when a new set went in, it just reminded me I was setting my teeth in place. It wasn’t that bad but I did typically use ibuprofen for the first 24 to 48 hours.

Bubly Mango Sparkling Water

What liquids can you drink with Invisalign?

Try drinking sparkling water with clear trays in your mouth. Drinking was the hardest change for me. I am a coffee sipper. I drink it all day. Everyday, I found myself never getting a full cup of coffee and sometimes I was taking ibuprofen for a headache, not for teeth pain.  I have read varying answers on this but for me sparking water was great!

Of the Invisalign eating and drinking tips, learning I could drink sparkling water wearing Invisalign was a win.  Mango and Grapefruit bubly Sparkling Water was a friend of mine. The bubbling allowed my stomach to be tricked into feeling full between meals and i find of felt like the fizz was helping to clean my teeth (perhaps it wasn’t; perhaps it was mental.)

Can you drink white wine while wearing Invisalign?

Honestly, you can drink anything, but anything with color will slightly stain. The only time I cheat is when I know I am changing my trays that evening.  When you change, take your own aligner and new one and compare the colors. You will see!

Does Invisalign turn teeth yellow?

The attachments stain really easily. Be sure to brush especially after drinking things like coffee or red white. I would really recommend skipping red wine for a rose or white wine. If you cannot get to a toothbrush and toothpaste quickly, swish with water, but I would not go very long without! Remember, do not drink anything but water when your aligners are in. If your teeth are beginning to stain too, consider picking up a Teeth Whitening Gel Pen. They won’t break the bank and still keep your smile sparkling or go back to our tip about whitening foam!

Clear Invisalign Trays

Can I throw away my old aligners?

Hold Onto Your Old Trays. Okay, this might seem a little strange at first glance. Why would you hold onto your previous set of trays once you graduate to a new set? There might be a reason you need to go back, like a tooth not shifting. One time, a few days after an aligner change, I lost one of my aligners. I had to go back to my old set white looking for my lost tray! I found it outside in the grass, talk about a lucky find! If in this case, I did not find it, I would be waiting a few days for my orthodontist to get a new set made. By wearing an old aligner, you prevent your teeth from shifting back or regressing in your treatment.

Invisalign Retainer

Keep your teeth white with Invisalign trays

Once done, you can use the Last Aligner Tray to Whiten Your Teeth. Your last tray makes the perfect delivery method for a teeth whitener. Grab a whitening gel and insert in your tray and follow the directions of your gel. Perhaps you can ask your orthodontist for a professional gel at the end of your treatment.  When you are done with your treatment, I would suggest the AuraGlow Teeth Whitening Kit with Gel Syringes. Over 5,000 positive reviews!

Fluoridex Prescription Toothpaste

Can you use toothpaste on Invisalign?

Yes! Scrub those clear trays babies clean. In fact, get multiple toothpastes. I found myself using three different toothpastes. I preferred a toothpaste that was strong like Crest Whitening + Scope. I also, switched over to a Sensodyne Whitening on days my teeth were more sensitive. My doctor also recommended a prescription toothpaste for my receding gums. I used the prescription Fluoridex toothpaste at night to help protect my enamel when I slept.

Do you lose weight when using Invisalign?

You might lose Weight. I did manage to lose weight on Invisalign. Initially, I began to eat 3xs a day but I ate larger meals to prevent myself from getting hungry. During the beginning, I did not lose any weight. Eventually, I embraced this time of “not being able to eat” and watch the meals I ate 3xs a day adding more protein in my diet. After making changes to my own diet/intake, the reduction of snacks I ate a day helped me loose 8 pounds. It was also work on my own end but I was giving into the deterrent of my Invisalign trays not allowing me to snack.

Be the Good Kid Quote | DIY Easy Bedroom Canvas Tutorial

This post may contain affiliate links or ads. Read my privacy policy and disclosure policy here.

Be the Good Kid Quote. We turned one of our favorite quotes into a Canvas for under $20.  Inspirational quote for girls and boys turned into DIY bedroom artwork – no canvas or paint required!

Be the Good Kid Quote

I have so much I want to teach my girls. I think of the most random “lessons” I want to share with them, but something makes it not the right timing. I quickly retain those ideas in my head and often they get buried beneath mundane day to day information.  Recently, I have found the best way to inspire my girls is through quotes that lead to their own self reflection. I have them read a quote, think about it and then we discuss it. This gives them ownership in their own beliefs without me instilling my own ideology in their head.

Be the Good Kid Quote:

So this craft project actually took no supplies. I am not joking. Using my computer mouse and keyboard, I created this DIY canvas online… you guys it was ridiculously easy!

First, I ordered this Be the Good Kid Quote online on Etsy. This was an instant download so as soon as I made my purchase for under $5. I paid $4.99 to be exact. This is the only “supply” you need for your kid’s quote project.

Tip: If you cannot see your download after you purchase, go to purchases and reviews under your account. From there, find your purchase and click Download Files.

Directions for Your DIY Canvas:

Once you have downloaded your Be the Good Kid Quote you will want to purchase a discounted canvas voucher online. One of my favorite places to purchase canvas prints is on Canvas on Demand, Canvas Champ and Canvas People. I normally take a look at Groupon to find a discounted canvas voucher first.  I found this Canvas on Demand Groupon Voucher, one 16×20 Canvas Print for $15. I doubt this price/voucher will last – so get it while you can!

Tip: This PDF printable from Etsy is 8 x 10 inches, so you want to order a canvas size that will fit. Order an 8×10 canvas, 16×20 canvas, or anything with a ratio of 4:5.

After I purchased the voucher, I went to my Groupon account and under my account chose My Groupons. There you can get your unique promo offer for your free canvas (you have already purchased it.) Follow the directions on your voucher. On the canvas merchant page, you will upload your Etsy download (instead of a photo.)  Your canvas will arrive and look like you hand lettered it yourself!
