Christmas Gift Ideas for Your Neighbors
Three and a half years I was displaced from Florida to the Washington, D.C. area. I was no longer able call on my parents or friends of over thirty years. This becomes especially hard during emergencies and times I found myself in a bind. For example, my son tripped over his own two feet and hit his head on his train table. Immediately his eyebrow was bleeding and it was evident he had a cut about the size of one centimeter. Blood doesn’t bother me, but my first aid kit was not prepared, and I found myself trapped in a situation of needed to get the two older girls to school. For years, with his two older sisters, I carried Barbie band-aids that took care of runny noses or minor blood-less ouchies. I have three boys under the age of two, so I am just beginning to see the things I will need around the house that my empty first aid kit did not have. I digress…
Anyways, with his fall I began to see I needed help. All five kids were home and I was not in a place to take the girls to school as I had to take care of my hurting boy. My neighbor immediately jumped in and brought the girls to school while I could solve fixing his eye with a first aid kit full of barbie bandages.
My neighbors are amazing. I live in a melting pot of an area of our country. Every one of my neighbors is from a different country, but we all have come together as displaced people who help one another. None of us have family who can drop everything and help, thus, we all rely on each other. Whether you have this friendly neighborhood community or not, chances are you have some sort of relationship with your neighbor.
